“What? Are you out of your mind? No!”

That was exactly what Mo Yeon said when Si Jin suggested his ‘great idea’, frustrating him to no end. Yes, he had anticipated this situation and so he let out his big gun, her son, and together they’ve been close to begging her to agree. He thought that with the help of Minguk, she’d day yes but to his surprise that only raise her ire. He had been pestering her for days with the same outcome.

‘What is wrong with his suggestion?’ he thought. It was already middle of the week and they had to move out soon, but she still stood her ground and wouldn’t budge despite he’s offer. He couldn’t comprehend her constant objection. He was the one offering right? It’s not like he was a stranger.

‘Next week’ he thought, sighing with dismay. The timing was supposed to be right since it was also his discharge from the hospital but from the looks of it, he’s really going to live in his house alone. ‘How ironic’, he contemplates thinking back to what he said to Minguk before.

He’s mind has been racing to many possibilities of her rejection ever since. She’s not that conservative either. Thinking back, she’s more of a modern woman actually. He thought that maybe she likes someone else and it wouldn’t look good if they live in one house. Or maybe she was worried about what people would think since they’re not married but really, they’re not doing anything wrong. Just a friend helping another friend in need? Isn’t that what friends do?

Dr. Kang sighed again while examining the x-ray. She had been thinking about Si Jin and his proposal. Not that proposal, rather, it was more of an offer. The first time he suggested his plan, her answer had been cause of reflex. She had been protecting herself from him for a very long time so her initial reaction was to reject him. She also thought he was crazy for offering her that much. She knows just how much he’s been saving for his future and she wouldn’t like to ruin that. Besides, she had other friend she can live with, specifically Ji Soo, for the mean time.

That was until her friend told her that her brother is back in town and is currently living with her. There was no problem at that, except that Ji Soo’s brother creeps the hell out of her. He was her persistent admirer or for the lack of better word, her stalker before and she thanked heavens when he moved to study abroad. Years may have passed but she’s not yet out of her mind to live with him.

It seems like her only choice was to live in those pricey condos or live in the streets. Si Jin’s were not an option. How could she live with him? It was just cruel. She’s not a masochist. It was just like consciously setting yourself for disappointments. Seeing him every day would certainly bring back old feelings that she tried so hard to forget and she would end up pining for him. 

Living with him is both nightmare and dream come true. God knows she wanted that but she can’t be selfish now. She has a son to think of. How can she do that to her son knowing that he adores Si Jin? She doesn’t want to give her son false hopes. What would happen if she gives in and they live in one house? They would certainly become too attached. She doesn’t know if she can leave once she enters his life again.

“Dr. Kang! You’re called by the director” a nurse called her, interrupting her thoughts. Sighing again for what’s like the hundredth time, she makes her way to his office. He was one of her problems. She hadn’t dealt with him yet from what he’d done to her son and she avoided him like plague because she’s afraid of what she’d do when she sees him. “What does he need now?!”

“Dr. Kang, I know about your problem-“ he smiled cheekily at her as she squints her eyes at him suspiciously, “you don’t have to worry anymore. I already solved it for you.” He said smugly.

“W-What do you mean?” she asked slightly stuttering. He couldn’t possibly...

“I bought you an apartment“ his statement make her gaped at him like a fish, utterly speechless at the turn of events. She couldn’t believe this guy. Like, seriously? Was he expecting her to accept that?! After what he did to her son? What’s up with people randomly asking her to move in with them anyway?

“Are you serious?” she asked before she does anything drastic. Her hearing might have been impaired, for all she knew, and she might have heard wrong.

“You don’t have to thank me“ The director nods at her while smiling widely.

“I’ll just make this clear, in the hospital you can boss me around, assign me to night shifts or even replace me in the live broadcast,” she said sternly at his smug face, he didn’t know just how much he’s on the verge of being slapped, “but in my personal life, you can’t say or do anything about what I do. You can’t even lay a finger to my son again. Be thankful I didn’t sue you for harming my son.”

“Are you threatening me?” Director Han’s said with a challenging look

“I’m not” she said coldly then smirked at him, “Just saying the truth. Anyway, do you have anything else to tell me? Then, I’ll go first.  I still have to pick up my son at school.” she said without waiting for an answer.

“Hey why is my son sad today?” she asked, leaning close to him as she unbuckles his seatbelt and shower his face with kisses. Minguk being silent after school was an unusual sight. He used to be a fireball filled with energy. They’ve just arrived to the hospital since she was going to wait for her shift to end before she could go home. It has been their routine since her mother left for her vacation.

“Mom, my classmates keep on asking me where my father is” Minguk said slowly hugging her mom. He would not cry, he promised his uncle Si Jin he would protect his mother and if he cries his mom w
