Chapter 4

Take My Hand

So, here they were. Standing like a fool closely before a couple of boy in their age, waiting for the reply the boy who currently was sitting on the floor with a comic book in his hands. The other boy was smirking like hell—although he was seen like he didn’t care at all, but his ears were busy listening to all of the boy who stood nearer words. It was actually a stupid conversation, but he couldn’t help but to hear to that.

“So?” Eunhyuk, the boy who stood closer to the sitting boys asked nervously.

“So what?”

“Ugh, you hear me!” Eunhyuk stomped his foot. “I know you have one so I’ll borrow that!” Sungmin, as the innocent one here, took a look at his friend’s face which was really red.

“I don’t have one, though.” The boy with a handsome smile shrugged his shoulders lightly. “And why do you need that anyway? I’m not that ert to have that outfit, for your information.”

“B-but…”

“It’s okay Hyuk, I’ll just help the other in the kitchen…” Sungmin tried to take away his friend from being in rage because of his so called ert friend here. He knew he shouldn’t complain about this and just appeared in the kitchen on D-day. He even made his friend doing something embarracing like this. If only he had the money.

“When do you need it?” suddenly the boy beside Eunhyuk’s ert friend opened up his mouth, to Sungmin’s relief. That meant the boy would help him, no? Probably. “I can help.”

Sungmin and Eunhyuk glanced to each other, having thought of the boy who was going to help them was really an angel. “In a week? Can you?” Eunhyuk asked back in delight, happy to be able helping his friend.

“It’s not a problem.”

With that, Sungmin and Eunhyuk squealed in unison, missing the smirk the boy had even from they asked for the maid outfit. And so, their squeal stopped right away because of the boy’s voice. “It’s not free, though.” Even the smiles on both Sungmin and Eunhyuk’s face wiped away immediately.

I know it! Sungmin screamed on his mind. “I don’t have money though.” Sungmin sadly said, already in mourning because Taeyeon would kill him right away after this. Oh here it goes.

“I don’t need money.” The boy now had his attention full to Sungmin who unconsciously pouted. “Just make me lunch for two weeks. That’s nice enough, no?” Eunhyuk, without asking Sungmin, agreed to this. Sungmin’s eyes goggled out at this, because hell, the one who should make lunch for this boy was him not Eunhyuk! Let alone for two weeks. Two weeks of his lunch would be given to this boy—then what should he eat later? The chopsticks?

“Yah!”

“Two weeks, okay.” Eunhyuk even shook his hand and gave Sungmin a pat on his shoulder. “It’s better than losing money, right? Just agree to it and you have the outfit—I won’t be Taeyeon’s slave!” oh, that’s why… “So when we’ll get the outfit?”

“The day after tomorrow, I think.” Eunhyuk constantly thanked him and pulled Sungmin back to their class (didn’t forget to kick his ert friend’s foot, though). Little did they know the boy was smiling brightly—he even chuckled to himself.

“The hell?” Heechul was on his office when he got this phone call, which turn out to be Kyuhyun. This was still his school time, but this brat had a gut to call him. He should have known that Heechul would probably give him a lecture to get serious to his school although he knew that Kyuhyun was a smart kid. Whatever, he just need to fume at someone because he lacked sleep. “What will you do with it anyway?”

“Just lemme borrow it, okay? I’ll get it today.” Was what Heechul got instead.

Heechul had this junction on his forehead for a moment before he took a breath. If only this wasn’t his lovely dongsaeng, he wouldn’t be this weak. “I left it home, you should visit me after I close the café.” For not getting angry with this child, Heechul put the weekly report of his café rather roughly on his desk, then turn around on his chair. With a little more conversations, Heechul hanged off then sighed heavily. “That brat….”

“Did he do something?” Oh, he forgot that Kangin was still in his room. Heechul answered him with a shake with his head, then went to massage his temple instead. “Then why you looked so worn out?”

“I can’t get enough sleep last night.” Heechul kept massaging his temple without looking back at Kangin. “You know, more stuffs to think.”

“Well, the only stuff you could think last night was your adorable worker, right?” Kangin smirked at Heechul for having the older man’s attention. “I know you got stressed out because Yesung said Kyuhyun found his loved one, right? Although it can’t be helped because Lee Sungmin we are talking about here.”

Heechul burrowed his brows at this. “What do you mean? Why would I think so much about my worker?”

“Because, Heechul, I can read you thoroughly.” Heechul couldn’t be more agree than this. He knew somebody would probably find out about this. His affection towards Sungmin wasn’t that invisible, everybody on the same job as Sungmin knew that. He spoiled the little angel too much because he knew Sungmin didn’t do the job just because he needs money for buying something or just for his school fee, but for his life. Heechul knew about Sungmin’s little family, about Jinki and Minseok. He knew very well Sungmin would take home whatever left that day from the café (usually cake or cookies) for his brothers, and he knew very well Sungmin didn’t take much from his own earnings. He was such an angel for his age, and Heechul fell for him because of that.

“Then what do you read in me right now, ?” Heechul spat at his muscular friend before he got up to get drink. Kangin, on the other hand, was laughing at this. Kangin must be feeling high because he knew something about marvelous Kim Heechul, hmph. “Shut that ing mouth of yours because I can’t concentrate here.”

“What the hell are you concentrating on exactly? Are you peeing on your diaper or something?” Kangin snapped at him. “Anyway, you shouldn’t take Yesung seriously.” Heechul couldn’t help but rolled his eyes at this. “You know, at Kyuhyun’s age he probably just feels interested for a moment, then forgets about it, believe me.”

“Psh, as if you have fell in love yourself, raccoon.”

----

The Sapphire Blue School, the school Kyuhyun went to, was busy as the festival nearer. He was supposedly helping his classmate to decorating for the ghost house later, but he was so lazy he chose to nap in the backyard instead. He was with his classmates, Choi Siwon and Kim Kibum. Actually, he was going to compete some game with Kibum, but then Siwon came to prevent that, and so Kyuhyun found himself was sleeping while dreamt about the boy who was in another class on his grade. Well, who else than Lee Sungmin?

“You know, the more I think about it, the more I’m sure this jerk has something in his mind whenever he’s sleeping.” Kibum stared at the sleeping Cho with a serious face like he was analyzed something biologic. “I never really see his smile when he’s up.”

“That’s because his face is all devil that you can’t find the angel at all.” Siwon shook his head though he was reading something. “Anyway, don’t let him up forcefully because he’ll be devil to you all day.” Kibum then turned his focus on the book Siwon was reading. “What? You won’t interest on it—it’s about God and our fate.”

“Yeah, priest, just take your time reading that.” Kibum then followed Kyuhyun’s path to be lost on his dream than to see an absurd Siwon with his book because Siwon probably wouldn’t mind sparing him even a glance. No, no at all. He was sober enough to be that stupid.

“Eurm… hi?” Siwon had to look away from his book to see a cute boy smiling sweetly before him, hands full of what you could call bento. He just raised his brows for this. His brain was actually processing something inside his head—where he met this guy because he surely knew him, but then again he couldn’t remember where he met him but he was so sure this guy was really familiar by the way he smiled. “Choi-sshi, right?”

“Yeah?” Siwon stood up because he felt wasn’t right to be impolite to such a cute boy although the height different was too obvious to be ignored. “Sorry, I don’t think I’m gay.”

….

It was like everything was frozen for Sungmin. The hell he was asking this guy?! Sungmin was just calling his name, not asking if he was gay or anything! Thanks god because Sungmin could cover it without looked hurt at all. Damn that Choi—maybe Sungmin should take revenge for later. “I was going to ask you to wake Kyuhyun-sshi up, though…” Sungmin used soft tone to show that he was acting to not hearing anything that damn Choi said just now. “Could you help me?”

“This Kyuhyun? Are you sure?” Siwon a bit afraid (although he believed god wouldn’t let him to be near evil) but then he poked Kyuhyun anyway. He knew Kyuhyun wouldn’t go mad if he knew this little angel was the one who waked him up. No, not Siwon, of course. “Kyuhyun-ah… wake up!”

But the handsome Kyuhyun was nothing near alive. Okay, Kyuhyun was still breathing, but although Siwon had shook his body roughly, the peaceful Cho Kyuhyun was still sleeping. What a great. Sungmin, being a good boy he was, took a try at this. He covered Kyuhyun’s eyes before he fanned the sleeping boy with his hand. Siwon dropped a sweat at this. “He’s dead when he’s sleeping.” Siwon told the smaller boy, and then without second thought he kicked the sleeping boy so the victim waked up with his kissed ground.

“What the hell!”

“Oh, you’re awake.” Siwon greeted him peacefully like he did nothing at all. “You know, it’s about two hours for this cutie waiting a mummy to his awakening day.” Kyuhyun’s eyes went round at this. Then his eyes met with Sungmin’s doe like eyes, which looked so dazzling to whoever seen that.

“R-really?”

“No, silly.” Siwon hit his head with his book. “Look what he has—your two weeks lunch. Better hurry eat that or I’ll take it from you.” Siwon then went back to read his book.

With that, Kyuhyun dragged Sungmin out because he didn’t want to share with Siwon at all, so they were having lunch at canteen. Actually Sungmin was afraid that someone he knew (probably a bunch) see them together, but then again, it looked normal for them to have lunch together, right? Probably, yes. And when Kyuhyun saw what Sungmin made today (it was the third day and today Sungmin made kimbab with katsu which shared between Jinki, Minseok, and Kyuhyun) he immediately tried the katsu. “I don’t know you’re a great cook, Sungmin.”

“I’m glad you like it.” Sungmin beamed at him. “You know,” Sungmin started, as he saw how Kyuhyun ate his lunch like he hadn’t meal for days, “I still remember you were the one who I met that time.” For a second Kyuhyun was stopped on his track before he continued whatever he had on his mouth. “You looked so stressed out that time.”

“Something happened that time.” Kyuhyun gave a reassuring smile. “You know, family matter… something you won’t even be thinking about.”

Albeit the bitter smile Kyuhyun had shown, Sungmin was amazed by this. He was feeling rather jealous of whatever Kyuhyun had. He wanted to be in a family where his parents were alive. He wanted to see his brothers playing with his parents, especially the youngest one because he hadn’t see their parents face in person. It was harsh for him. “Is it great have a parents to look after you?” Sungmin asked out of curiosity. He just felt too much for having his parents taken away.

Kyuhyun, on the other hand, was losing interest on the meal. Speaking about his parents made him want to vomit whatever he had on his stomach, but it seemed like Sungmin didn’t realize that. He put down his chopsticks to look at the bright sky. “You know, not everything you think turns out to be magnificent.” Kyuhyun started with a hurt expression. “I don’t have a loving family like you do, and I don’t have someone I can depend on in my house.” Sungmin had to avert his gaze to the talking boy. “I have someone I love the most—no, people. But then someone ruins it and everything’s going crazy, even myself turns crazy.”

“But you still have someone for you to run for, right?”

“If what you mean is friend, then I have plenty.” Kyuhyun let out a sincere smile to the boy next to him. Sungmin, although he had no intention to smile, but he did anyway. “I have friends to hang out with, at least.”

“That’s better.” Sungmin patted him on the back. “Because I know how it feels when you have nowhere to go. Even to talk about something small is hard to do. Be grateful to your friends.”

“Don’t you have friends?”

Sungmin smiled to that. “I do, of course. But to share my thought of what I have thought in my mind is not an easy task. I should ask for an adult, but then again, I have no friends in that age.”

Kyuhyun went silent. “You can depend on me, though.” Kyuhyun ruffled Sungmin’s hair. His hair was so smooth Kyuhyun wanted to ruffle it again. “My friends tell me that I’m not looking my age.”

“You look awfully old, though.”

“Hey, that’s not it!”
