Chapter Three
Smoke & Mirrors
✤ Hana
He’s still out there, the cops haven’t found him yet, they began to search for him just yesterday. He’s still out there, moving around in streets, or hidden in some isolated house, or flew away, or still searching for the only witness that might get him caught. He’s still out there, and he’s still in my dreams.

As I reached the front gate, I found him walking in alone with hands in his pockets, and earphones plugged in. Does he have friends? One thing I noticed is that he seems lonely and doesn’t really have any friends. His classmates didn’t know where he was when I asked them yesterday, and they didn’t seem to care. He doesn’t greet anyone when he enters. I followed him to get to my classes as well. Half my way to the class, I met Min, who intently kept talking about her 4 days trip she had been to. Then we parted cause we have different classes, but agreed to meet at lunch anyway.
At lunch, she told me to fill her in with everything that happened, and why my class was moved to another one.-“ So are you telling me that you got paired up with… Kai?!” she said in an almost disgusting look on her face, which got me a little bit surprised but I just nodded anyway.“ Oh my god! That dude is so weird they say!”. My head snapped up and looked at her“ What do you mean?” for the first time she got me truly interested in what she was saying.
“ Honestly, I don’t really know him, never had the chance to even talk to him, but rumors say that he’s one weird guy, that suddenly started to ignore everyone and didn't talk much like he used to.”. I tilted my head confused what could have happened to make him like this? “ I don’t get it.” She sighed and just shrugged “Neither do I, but you know what, we can’t judge a book by its cover anyway.” Then she gave me a smile. “ He seems pretty sad, though. Despite his attitude.” I said the last part to myself.
She seemed to be thinking, contemplating if it’s right to tell me whatever she’s been thinking about, but she said it anyway. “ Well, his parents died about two years ago in a car accident…” she paused then got closer to me and said in a lower voice ”and some say they were actually killed.” My eyes widened when I heard that, this is awful, I suddenly remembered my own father. “This is…”
“Horrible! I know, but it’s still a rumor, that maybe some lunatic kid made up about him.” she shook her head “no one really knows anything about him since they died. and I guess nobody actually tried to dig in they just left him alone.” It was time to go back to our classes, but my mind was somewhere else all the time. I was wondering if what she said was true, is this why his eyes are so broken? I couldn’t stop thinking about it, I wanted to know more. But why?
It was the end of classes finally, and now I have to meet him at the library as we agreed on yesterday. I went there first and sat down somewhere near the doors, so he could see me as soon as he comes in. A few minutes later he showed up and just sat down without any words. I sighed and began to take out my notebook.
“ So how should we do this?” I asked him, and he finally looked at me, then we started talking about what exactly we’re going to talk about. Halfway through our discussion his phone beeped, he looked at it, it seemed like he received a message because he kept looking at it. His face showed confusion, which quickly turned to anger. Then he suddenly sat up and collected his belongings. “Something came up, I have to go.” He said quickly and turned around to leave.
“Wait! What? We didn’t even f
