Smoke & Mirrors

I’m not sure how this happened but I woke up the next day on my bed tucked in my blanket. My hands moved around trying to feel him but to my disappointment, he wasn’t here. I guess I fell asleep while watching T.V and he carried me here, I blushed deeply as I pictured him carrying me in his muscular arms then smiled hiding my face in my pillow. Then I looked at the alarm clock that read 12:30, wow it’s been a while since I’ve had some good sleep. I thought to myself and sighed in content, that’s when my eyes caught a sticky note beside the alarm I sat straight holding the note smiling when I realized it was from Kai. I got off bed rolling my eyes but smiling nevertheless.
“You sleep like a log.
I’ll call you ♥ ”
An hour later I decided to go to my aunt’s diner but when I got there, it was very crowded and my aunt was running around so I told her I’ll help her out. She looked extremely grateful and I was glad I could help her somehow. But as the evening came by the crowd disappeared eventually leaving only two tables or so occupied, that’s when I heard someone coming in so I looked around only to find Kai, we texted a few times during the day and I mentioned to him that I’m at my aunt’s diner but he didn’t tell me he would come so I was genuinely surprised that he came but extremely happy. As soon as our gazes met he smiled and walked over. “Hey you” I said poking his shoulder and he held my hand in his “Hey, how was today? You look exhausted!” I sighed tilting my head slightly “I’m so glad it’s over really!” he smiled softly pushing a strand of hair away from my face and I felt my cheeks getting warmer. Suddenly my aunt put her arms around both our shoulders smiling knowingly “You know, I had a feeling this would happen. Kids these days!” she patted our backs and walked away.
“Did you eat or would you like to eat something?” I asked as he led me to a table far away in a corner next to the window, he shook his head “No, I didn’t. Let’s have something together.” I nodded and went back to my aunt and told her that I’d be eating with him and asked if she needed any help. “No thank you, you worked so hard today honey.” she smiled softly, then -I swear- she smirked and said “Plus… I don’t want to ruin your date.” while looking at Kai, I sighed looking at him, he was on the phone talking but he looked nervous. I looked back at her “You’ll never let this go, right?” she laughed a little then looked at me lovingly saying “I just want you to be happy, and you do look happy.”.
My aunt doesn’t really express her feelings so much, it was the first time she told me something like this, so I was really touched I hugged her tightly whispering “I love you.” in her ear, she pulled away smiling then turned me around and pushed me lightly “Now go away I still have to work.”, I shook my head, same old same old. By the time I went back to the table he had finished the phone call, he still looked tense but as soon as he saw me he relaxed a bit smiling back at me. “How was your day?” I asked and he shrugged “Boring,” he sat straight and continued “Stayed home all day actually.” he reached across the table and took my hand in his, I think he has a for holding hands but it’s not like I mind it anyway. “But it’s all better now.” he smiled, I could hear the door open and close again but all I could see at that moment is Kai smiling at me like this. If you told me two months ago that I’d be sitting like this with him smiling and holding hands I’d have probably sent you to an asylum. But good moments don’t last forever as we heard someone clearing his throat, we both looked up only to find Jongmin, Kai’s brother. Kai let go of my hand quickly as if he had been caught doing something illegal and I couldn’t help but fe
