Jealousy

Like Lightning

"Whoa, why are you walking so fast?" Luhan trailed behind me lazily, pouting at me.

"I'm already late!" I said, speeding down the hallway even faster. I pulled out my phone, seeing a couple of messages from Chen already, so I hurriedly sent him an apology, saying I'd be there soon.

"You're that excited to see him, huh?" Luhan raised an eyebrow. I stopped in my tracks, shooting him a glare. He made that ugly face as he laughed wildly, catching up with me in a couple of strides.

"No, not really, I'd actually rather spend some time with my number one bias." I winked, leaving him standing in the hallways, stupefied, before he ran to catch up.

"Yah! Choi Yoonmi!"

When we got to the usual practice room, the silence of the hallway gave way to a very faint melody, sung by some great honey vocals.

"Cover your ears, you're not supposed to be hearing this." Luhan muttered.

I wanted to hear more of the song, but I quickly knocked on the door since I was late already. By the sounds of it, the song was for EXO's next comeback.

"Anyway, have fun! I shall leave you here, Yoonmi sunbaenim. Text me later, okay?" He grinned, then hugged me tightly.

Just then, the door opened, revealing a shocked Chen standing there with his mouth slightly open. He had his dark brown hair sleek and straight today, coupled with a black tee that showed off his biceps perfectly, and dark jeans.

I think I stared for a second too long, as I hadn't even noticed when Luhan took his time letting go of me. He then shot me a smirk and put his sunglasses on coolly. "Did you hear? I'm number one on her bias list now." He boasted to Chen, who shot him a dull look back.

"Hyung," Chen pouted, "why are you stealing my fans away?"

Luhan simply shrugged innocently. "I guess you'll have to try harder to win her back then," he smirked, then gave us a quick wave and left.

"Annyeonghaseyo," I bowed, "I'm so sorry I'm late."

"Oh no worries, I was just practicing some stuff myself actually," Chen stuffed the pages of lyrics on the piano away into his bag. "So did you just come from another schedule?"

"Ah...no." I looked down, embarrassed. What had Luhan meant about not telling Chen anyway? "I was actually hanging out with Luhan at that cool rooftop place."

"Rooftop?" He frowned, eyebrows knitted. I watched carefully to gauge his reaction.

"Yeah, like that restaurant and lounge area on the top floor. Have you ever been up there? It looks like it's been newly renovated and used to be the actual rooftop of the building." I pulled my books out of my bag, setting them on the piano.

"Are you even allowed up there?" He mumbled quietly, seemingly more to himself than me. "Tsk tsk, that hyung is such a bad influence." Chen's frown turned into a scowl and somehow the expression didn't fit his usually-smiling face. I gave him a questioning look, but he just shook his head and shifted over on the piano bench to leave me some space.

"Don't worry about what Luhan said, I mean, I hardly think I know you guys well enough to have a bias," I chuckled awkwardly as I took out a pencil and opened my book. This week's lesson was on modulation, which was fairly easy to my surprise.

"I know, but I'll still make sure I'm your number one bias." He flashed a smile my way, and even though I knew he was joking, I was still curious to hear how he was going to do that.

I raised an eyebrow at him after I filled out the first question on the page. "And how exactly are you planning on doing that?"

He froze for a second, almost a bit taken aback at my challenge. "Hmm, I will, uh, personally sing you a bit of my next song?" He leaned a bit closer, "or maybe serenade you with my piano playing?" Then even closer, "or even make you a gourmet meal for your very own Guerilla Date with EXO's best visual, Chen?" He smirked, his eyes twinkling mysteriously.

It was my turn to freeze, as all the thoughts I once had went flying out of my mind. I couldn't help but just stare at him, how close he was, so very close.

As if satisfied with the reaction he got out of me, he leaned back and smiled a little to himself.

"Um, that would mean that you can cook, right?" I fired back at him.

"Y-yah, of course I can cook!" He pouted, and I smiled teasingly at his slightly flustered reaction.

"That's not quite what I heard," I thought back to the amount of gifs and memes of his face when he was grilling meat in that one show EXO did, "though I guess you're pretty good at grilling meat?"

"Are you questioning me?" He side-eyed me, suspicious. "I guess we really will have to do that Guerilla Date then. And then once you taste my cooking, you'll definitely fall in love with Chef Chen!"

I laughed it off, not sure if his words were meant to be joking or if he actually meant it. "Great, I love guys who can cook."

"Okay, I'll keep that in mind," he grinned, the ends of his thin lips curling up naturally, almost reminding me of a cute cat.

Suddenly, the door opens with a click, and I jump a little, startled. I was half expecting some EXO members to appear again, like they had last time, but it wasn't them. Minnie walked in the room, looking like a model with her long hair set perfectly, and her thin legs showing as she wore a floral skirt.

"Oppa-ya," Minnie said, sticking her head in. She then went on to say something else in Korean to Chen, her voice high pitched and girly sounding. She barely spared me a glance, almost as if I wasn't there at all.

Chen said something back to her, smiling with his usual dazzling grin, and she left the room with a little wave, and suddenly I felt something strange in my stomach. An uneasy feeling of sorts.

"Yeah, um, sorry, Rachel. I'll have to be going soon..." He ruffled his hair uncertainly, letting it fall back into place softly.

I felt my heart sink a little, but checked the time and realized that we were actually fifteen minutes over the one hour we had originally scheduled. "It's okay, I didn't realize that we went overtime." I said, packing up my stuff. It was my fault that I had been late in the first place, and now I was even holding him up more.

He laughed cheerfully though, his melodic laughter sounding so reassuring. "I didn't either. Sorry we didn't get through much today though. Hey, maybe we can meet up again for this chapter?"

"Yeah, sure, I'd like that." I smiled back as he picked up his stuff and left.

As he opened the door, I could see Minnie standing right outside, waiting for him, and they both left together, looking at each other happily.
