Chapter 7

Falling For You

Kyu Jong knew he had to tread lightly, he chose his words carefully, “What are you not sure of?”

She looked back down, “I’m…I don’t know.”

He looked at her, “Yes you do,” he stated.

Kayla’s eyes flew to his.

“You only need the courage to say it.”

She stared hard at him and he smiled.

“I don’t know if I want to support him, I don’t know that I’m doing the right thing anymore. We barely talk, he never has time for me, he chooses his mother over me constantly,” she rambled, tears streaming steadily down her face. “I’m tired of making excuses for him and the things he does, it makes me look stupid. Do you know I had to make an appointment just to see him? We were supposed to talk on the phone multiple times this week but he cancelled them all. The last time was right before you came over.”

“Ahh,” Kyu Jong nodded, so he’d been right.

“Then just tonight, the night of my appointment with him, we had our meeting at a restaurant. I was supposed to have him for an hour, it’s what was scheduled, but as usual, his mom called and had him come into work. He had to leave even though I had him for the hour, he left early because it was me and we could finish later,” she said angrily.

Kyu Jong’s eyes widened, “He left you there?”

“He told me he’d drop me off home on the way back to the office and I told him I’d stay and finish dinner, hoping he’d reconsider, he didn’t and so he left me there. I thought he’d fight for me, but he never does, he always lets me down and it h-hurts,” she said softly, hanging her head.

He reached out, carefully taking the teacup from her hand and covered her hands with his, grasping them gently, he frowned when a teardrop landed on top of his hand.

“Kayla,” he said softly, “Look at me.”

She shook her head ‘no’.

“Come on, look at me, lift your head. You are better than this; don’t let him do this to you. Lift your head and look at me,” he said firmly.

Slowly she lifted her head to look at him and he nodded, “You don’t need to hang your head, you did nothing wrong. Now, do you want this relationship?”

She nodded.

“Then you must continue to fight for it and for him. As long as the need to be with him is there, fight. That said, you shouldn’t have to do it alone that is not what being in a relationship is. If he takes advantage of your kindness, you should reconsider, you can only do so much,” Kyu Jong offered quietly.

“That’s just it, I keep fighting, but I’m fighting alone here. He says he’s trying but…it’s not enough. He keeps telling me to wait, but I’m tired of waiting, all I do is wait. Wait for him to squeeze me in between meetings and conference calls, I’m so…so…angry!” she said, taking a deep breath.

“You must tell him,” Kyu Jong stated.

Suddenly she exploded, “I try! He won’t listen! I feel like I’m talking to myself! He doesn’t want to hear it, I’m supposed to sit back and watch him and take his crap, I’m tired of it K, I mean it,” she practically yelled, her body shaking with anger.

He calmly reached out and picked the teacup back up and handed it back to her, she shook her head. “Drink, you need to relax,” he said gently.

She looked at him for a moment before taking the cup again and taking a long drink. Kyu Jong sighed heavily, watching her for a few minutes before speaking again, “You have to make him listen.”

Kayla let out a breath, “I know.”

“It won’t be easy, but if you do all you can, it cannot be said later that you didn’t try, and then it will all be on him. Do not suffer in silence,” he reasoned.

“I want my boyfriend back, that’s not too much to ask. We used to talk; we’d go out and do things. His mom has become unbearable, I can feel her dislike of me all of a sudden,” she said, continuing to sip at her tea, she looked considerably calmer.

“Mom’s can be like that.”

Kayla shook her head, “No, she wasn’t like this before. She used to like me, after the family business took off, she looked down me. On those rare times she does see me, suddenly she has a problem with me,” she sighed.

Kyu Jong looked down, he knew exactly what it was and he was sure Kayla did too. That wasn’t unusual at home, that kind of thing happened a lot, and he’d never really heard the other side of it as he was now. It was almost expected in his country, you were to be with someone who fit your status or else things were very difficult. His parents had had a hard time when they got together he remembered his mom telling him, but they’d stayed together. He’d gone on record to say tat he would never date someone his parents didn’t approve of. So far, it hadn’t happened, he hoped it never did because while it would hurt him if truly loved the woman, he meant when he’d said.

“His family is very important to him,” he said quietly.

Kayla looked at him, “Yes and that’s good, but at what cost? How is he ever going to do anything if his mom lords over him all the time? His mom controls his life, he isn’t living for himself, he’s living for her,” she frowned.

He nodded, “Yes but family is important, we should make our parents happy and try to honor their wishes.”

She tilted her head to the side, studying him, “You say that as if you had a lot of experience with it.”

“In my culture family is very important. A lot of what we do is for the family, to better the family.”

Kayla stared at him, “So you’d give up on something or someone you loved if your parents didn’t approve?”

“Well I’d try to convince them first, but if not, then yes, yes I would.”

She nodded, “I see, I can’t say that I understand or agree it with it, but I can see the thought process. I guess what it boils down to is can I accept that as part of our lives and relationship?”

Kyu Jong nodded, “Exactly.”

She sighed, wiping at her eyes, “Thanks K, I really appreciate this and I’m sorry for yelling at you earlier, I was upset.”

Kyu Jong shook his head, “You didn’t, it’s fine.”

“I did, it just...it felt good to finally get it out.”

He nodded, “Yes, it helps you to get perspective.”

Kayla smiled, finishing the tea, “I hope I didn’t prevent you from doing anything.”

He shook his head, “Ani, I was just walking around to better acquaint myself with the city. I‘ve been doing that a lot lately.”

“Did you get lost?” She questioned, grinning.

“Several times,” he chuckled.

Kayla laughed, “Good, it’s how you learn.”

Kyu Jong nodded, “Yes, I always managed to make it back home. It’s been fun though, seeing the different stores and shops. I try to go out on my free time whenever I can.”

“Good for you, it’s nice to see you taking the initiative to learn. Oh hey before I forget, I’m gonna be going sometime this week to sign up for the next round of acting classes, you’re free to come along if you want,” she offered.

“Jinja? Thank you! I would love to join you; do you know when you’re going? I can see if I can free up some time.”

“How bout you tell me your schedule and I’ll see what works. You’d have a harder time than me; we’ll work around your schedule instead.”

Kyu Jong blinked, that was a first for him, most women wanted him to cater to them, he usually had to adjust, but Kayla was doing the opposite.

“If you can find out tomorrow and give me a call or even let Shane know, I’ll call you and let you know what works with your schedule.”

“Kayla…you don’t have to do that,” Kyu Jong said softly.

She waved him off, “No problem, I do it all the time at my job, I’m happy to help you out.”

He smiled, “Thank you, I appreciate that. Ahh here, I almost forgot again,” he stood and headed over to the kitchen, coming back a few seconds later with something in his hand, he held it out to her. “Here, your copy. Shane hyung took me a few days ago to make copies, this is yours.”

Kayla took the item, which ended up being a key, “Oh, to your townhouse, thanks; I figured you’d just give one to Shane and that’s it, since you work with him and all.”

“I don’t mind you having one, you’re not with him a lot, if I’m locked out and he’s not here, it won’t be much help,” Kyu Jong reasoned.

She nodded, “True, we should give you one of ours then.”

“Shane hyung already did.”

“Good! Well K I’m gonna go, I’ve taken up enough of your time, once again I’m sorry,” she sighed.

Kyu Jong shook his head, “Please stop apologizing, you did nothing wrong. I don’t mind, we’re friends right?”

She looked over at him, saying nothing for a moment before smiling and nodding, “Yes K, we are.”

He nodded, gathering up the cups and teakettle, setting them on the tray.

“No no, let me,” Kayla said, putting the plate on the tray as well before picking up the tray and heading into the kitchen with it before he could stop her.

Kyu Jong stood and walked over to the kitchen to see her rinsing the cups out and setting them in the strainer before pouring the old water out of the kettle and replacing it with fresh water and setting it on the stove.

She looked up at him and smiled, making her way over to him, “I’ll see you later K, don’t forget to give Shane your schedule or call me and let me know, whatever is easier.”

“I will, thank you for thinking of me.”

Kayla smiled and headed over to the door, taking the slippers off and pulling her boots on. Kyu Jong went over, unlocking the door and opening it.

“Bye K.”

“Bye Kayla,” he said softly, bowing.

She left and he shut the door, letting out a breath. A lot came out, the mystery surrounding her boyfriend had finally been revealed, he was sure there was more, there had to be to incite such a reaction. Honestly, the fact that he’d left her at the restaurant even though she’d told him to didn’t make him feel very good about him either. Kyu Jong was trying to reserve any opinion until he was able to meet him if he ever had the opportunity. He didn’t understand how he could do that to her, leave her like that. On top of that, she’d had to schedule an appointment to even see him, didn’t that make him uncomfortable? To know his own girlfriend had to schedule a time to see him that was sad. On the rare times he’d had a girlfriend, he always made sure he had time for her, at the very least a call, which most of the time had been the case. Terrance couldn’t even seem to do that apparently.

Kyu Jong wondered how there were able to maintain a relationship that way, then again Kayla did say it’d only started fairly recently. He’d had a hard time and he traveled a lot, but Terrance was there, in the same country, it didn’t seem like he really had an excuse as far as he was concerned, he just didn’t get it.

He turned, heading back into the living room; he turned the lights off and headed into the bathroom.

~~~
Kayla let herself into the townhouse, shutting and locking the door. She made her way into her bedroom, turning the light on. Slowly she started to get undressed, the evenings events rushing forward. Tears started to well back up in her eyes again, even though she tried to stifle them.
It’d been a disaster, no other way to describe it. She headed into the bathroom, washing her face to get the make up off. It’d all been a waste of time, the outfit, make up, all of it, he’d only seen her for thirty minutes and he’d left. After cleaning up, she headed back into her room, sitting on the bed.
So what did she do now?
Kyu Jong told her to fight, but that she also shouldn’t be fighting alone, but she was, she was in this all alone. Her thoughts drifted back to Kyu Jong, she’d been amazed by him. How he happened to be there just then floored her. What was more surprising was that he brought her into his home and made her tea and gave her cookies and listened while she rambled on and on about Terrance. He even went so far as to tell her it wasn’t her fault. Kayla stared out, how did he do it? How did he do things better than Terrance, seemingly without even trying? He’d made her feel good, he’d held her hands and told her to not let him make her feel as if it’d been her fault, refused to let her hang her head.
Tears streamed down her cheeks, but these were different, they were tears of frustration, frustration that Terrance couldn’t be more like Kyu Jong who seemed to know just the right things to do and say. If Terrance could do it though, she wouldn’t be here like this now and that was the problem.
The Next Day
“So let me get this straight,” Liz started, staring at Kayla. “He actually left, he left you there? Are you serious Kayla?”
Kayla sighed and nodded, giving Liz a look.
“No way, I’d kick his to the curb, honestly Kayla. You don’t need to put up with that. I mean, where does he get off? It’s bad enough you had to schedule a freaking appointment to even see him, but then he flakes out and leaves you there cause his mommy calls him, he’s crazy,” Liz stated angrily.
“Liz…” Kayla said weakly.
“No, this is so wrong. I mean…oh yes, all set? Great, have a seat, we’ll be with you shortly,” she smiled at the patient, taking the paperwork and setting it on the stack and shut the small window again, turning to look back at Kayla. “Kayla…” she sighed and stopped, staring at her a moment before looking away. “Ok, so I’ve pulled the other files for all appointments from 2-4. I was hoping you could go through and check to make sure all the files from yesterday were updated,” Liz said, turning back to her monitor.
Kayla sighed, feeling bad because she knew Liz wanted to say more, but was trying to be respectful. The rest of the afternoon neither woman spoke much, it got very busy and both worked hard to keep up, only taking when necessary. By the time the office closed, both were exhausted. They gathered their stuff up, clocked out and made their way out the door.
“Look Liz…” Kayla started and stopped when Liz grabbed her and hugged her tightly.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to get so mad, I just don’t like how he’s treating you. I care about you is all, you’re my friend, I don’t want you to be hurting so much,” Liz said softly.
Kayla nodded, returning the hug whole heartily, “I know, thanks.”
Liz pulled away and smiled, “I’ll see you Wednesday ok?”
Kayla waved as she left and headed to her car, getting in. Just then her phone went off, she looked to see a text message from Terrance telling her he was going to call that night to talk and that was it. She put her phone away and stared ahead, the question was, would he actually call?
She headed inside to see the TV on and Shane was just coming into the room.
“Long time no see stranger, it’s been forever since I’ve seen you,” he grinned.
Kayla rolled her eyes, smirking, “I can’t help it if you’re never home, and I’m here.”
“I know, it’s been kinda hectic. Kyu Jong has really been working hard, he’s like a machine, I’ve never seen anyone go the way he does, he never complains, even when we go late into the night and early morning. I don’t know how they do things there with sing…I uhh mean he’s just a really hardworking guy. Things are really starting to come together, so I’ve really been focusing on him,” Shane stated, clearing his throat.
She wondered what he’d been starting to say before, sing what?
“Oh yeah, here,” Shane grabbed something off the kitchen table and handed it to her, “He told me to give this to you since I was going to be stopping home. He still at Sony right now,” Shane explained.
Kayla took the paper to see it was a schedule, Kyu Jong’s schedule to be exact, her face lit up, he’d remembered!
Shane went to turn the TV off then stopped, “You want me to leave this on?”
She nodded, looking the schedule over intently, it was pretty packed and the hours were erratic, she didn’t know how he did it.
“Ok then I’m out, gotta head back out to work. I’ll be home late,” he explained.
She turned, “Is Kyu Jong coming home?”
“Yeah, at some point, not sure when. It may not be till early morning though.”
“Ok, thanks.”
Shane looked over at her, “Just what’s going on? You and him got something going on?”
Kayla looked up at him, “Me and Kyu Jong? No, I’m taken Shane and I’m sure I’m probably not his type anyway. He’s going to come with me to sign up for some acting classes, need to know what time we can get together.”
“Really? So…is he your type then?”
Kayla gave him a look.
“Ok got it, I’ll ask later,” Shane grinned.
She rolled her eyes, shaking her head in amusement.
“Ok, I’m gone.”
“Tell Kyu Jong I said hi!”
Shane looked at her, “Mmm hmm,” he said before leaving.
Kayla headed into her room and got her laptop, quickly undressed and changed before heading back out. She opened her laptop, booting it up. Pulling up the site, she looked Kyu Jong’s schedule over, comparing it to the list on the site; her thoughts kept coming back to what Shane had said. Was Kyu Jong her type? She didn’t really have one, not that she thought much about that since her and Terrance started dating, their hadn’t been a need to. She hangs out a bit with a guy and Shane automatically assumes something is going on with him; she wasn’t that type of woman.
She wrote down the times that would fit his schedule, she just had to figure out the best way to reach him. Texting would take too long, ideally she’d tell him in person when he came home, but she had no idea when that would be and she had work the next day so she couldn’t stay up late. Quickly she wrote out the times for him in a note, telling him to either call or text her to let her know when is best for him and they’ll go that day, and she would pick him up. Kayla folded the note with the schedule, stuck a piece of duck tape and hurried out, sticking it on his door before hurrying back down, heading into the kitchen to start dinner.
Kayla couldn’t help but wonder if Terrance was really going to call. If she was honest with herself, she really didn’t want to talk to him, she was still angry and hurt. They needed to talk, but he wasn’t allowing that to happen easily. Kayla knew he had days off, but he never tried to spend them with her, so what was he doing? She couldn’t help but wonder about that too.
Opening the microwave, she peeled back the cellophane on the lasagna a bit and closed the door, resetting the timer then headed to the fridge to get out fixings for a salad. It wasn’t as if they could talk now over the phone, she was sure he’d find some way out of it. That said, she knew she had to at least try, she had to do all she could to try to make this relationship work because she did want it to. She loved Terrance and despite how he was acting, she knew he was a good man; he just wasn’t good at multi-tasking. They as a couple were suffering for it and his mom and the company benefited from it. Kayla hoped they could really talk about it, and then maybe he’d change, maybe even talk to his mom. She didn’t know what good it would do him, but he could try.
A few minutes later, she brought her dinner over to the couch and sat, flipping through the stations until she found something. Times like these she really missed Terrance, she hated to eat alone, she wished she could call him to come over and hang out with her like she used to, but those days were long gone, she didn’t know if they’d ever happen again.
Kayla took a bite of her salad, barely tasting it. She was tired of being so lonely all the time.
A Few Hours Later
She slid under the covers and turned to set her alarm, when suddenly her phone rang. Looking down at it, she saw it was Terrance, sighing she realized she really didn’t want to talk to him. He knew what time she went to be during the week and yet he still called? Remembering she needed to do all she could, she sat back up and answered the call.
“Hello?”
“I’m sorry I’m calling so late, I know you’re probably in bed, but it was the only free time I had,” Terrance sighed.
Kayla rubbed at her head, “What’s up Terrance? I really need to get to sleep,” she said quietly.
“I just wanted to make sure you got home safely last night.”
“Yeah, I was fine. I ran into K and we took a cab home together.”
“K?”
“Yeah, my upstairs neighbor, I told you about him the last time you were here. He happened by and we shared a cab.”
There was silence for about ten seconds.
“Oh…”
“Yeah, so if that’s it, I’m gonna go.”
“Wait, I thought you wanted to talk?” Terrance said suddenly.
Kayla blinked, “Now Terrance? I wanted to talk to you last night, at dinner.”
“I had to leave, it was work, and you know how important work is. I don’ know why you scheduled an appointment like that, it really wasn’t funny,” Terrance stated, annoyance in his voice.
She took a calming breath, “I told you, it was the only way I could get in touch with you Terrance.”
“You could’ve done something else, my mom was pretty upset when she found out you were my eight o’clock,” he stated.
Kayla stilled, her anger spilling over, “Oh was she? Well that’s just too damn bad isn’t it?” She said coldly.
“Kayla…”
“I’m sorry your mom wasn’t happy, why don’t you just…” she stopped, taking a few calming breaths, trying to control herself before she said something she shouldn’t.
“Hey Kayla look…”
“No, forget it Terrance. I’m tired and I need to sleep, but most importantly, I need to stop talking to you right now. Goodnight,” she said.
“Kayla!”
She ended the call and immediately the phone rang again, she ignored it, sending it to voicemail before turning the volume down. She slid back down under the covers; his mom had been upset, well too bad for his mom, too bad. The fact that she was mad infuriated her. She wouldn’t have to do that if she didn’t monitor his every move, she was mainly angry at Terrance, he’d actually tried to make her feel guilty, unbelievable.  Now, now of all times he wanted to talk, right before he knows she would be going to bed. Kayla had never known him to be so inconsiderate; she was beginning to think she didn’t know him at all.
~~~

Kyu Jong made his way in, yawning softly. It’d been a long day, he was glad to be home. Flipping the light on, he went to shut the door when he noticed something taped to it. He pulled it off and then shut the door, looking at it. It appeared to be some kind of note; he took his boots off and slid into his warm slippers. Taking his coat off, he hung it up and set he note down on the table before heading into his room. He changed quickly and then came out, headed into the kitchen to get a bottle of water and made his way back out, sitting on the couch. He grabbed the letter and opened it to find it was from Kayla.

Hey K!

Sorry to be leaving you this note, but I wasn’t sure when you got home. I hope you had a good day. Try to get some rest ok?  I’ve written down the times for the acting class registration that goes along with the schedule you gave me. Tomorrow looks good, I can actually go right after work and meet you there, or if you want, when I get home, we can meet up and go together, just let me know. I’ll leave you my cell number; I don’t think I gave it to you when you got yours for some reason. So feel free to text me if you want, I hope to hear from you soon!

Kayla

Kyu Jong smiled, it was very nice of her to do that, he could’ve easily done it, but she insisted. Tomorrow definitely worked for him, he had a short day, but he’d rather just meet her there instead of making her waste gas. He looked at the clock, it was too late to call her, standing he headed back into his room and came back out a few minutes later with a notebook. He opened to a fresh page and started writing. A few minutes later, he folded the paper, put a piece of tape on it and headed down to stick it to her door before heading back up.

He finished his water and headed into the bathroom to get ready for bed.

~~~
Kayla made her way out to her car, unlocking the door and sliding in. When she’d woken up, she’d turned the volume back up on her phone and found she’d had ten missed calls and five voicemails from Terrance. After listening to the first message with him telling her how rude and immature she was being, she deleted the rest without listening to them. He really was something. The note she’d found taped to her door from Kyu Jong had made her feel a bit better though. He stated that today would be best and that he’d meet her there, he’d even sent her a text message asking for the name of the building.
She turned the car on, blasting the heater, to be honest, she was looking forward to seeing Kyu Jong again, he was always so relaxing to be around, so uncomplicated. Twenty minutes later, she turned into the parking lot and parked, turning the car off and got out. Carefully she made her way into the building; she found the designated room and headed int. There were several different tables set up with the different classes that were offered. There were pamphlets and flyers at each table along with the teacher that would be in charge of the particular class.
Kayla looked around casually, wanting to wait until Kyu Jong arrived before she did any real looking. She saw a few people she recognized from the last class and said hello, she looked over at he door just in time to see Lejna make her way in. She made her way over, they spoke for a bit before Lejna went off to look at the different tables. The room was full, so Kayla headed out into the hall where it wasn’t so stuffy.
Walking over to one of the benches set up, she sat and waited. A few seconds later, she got a message on her phone from Kyu Jong telling her he was there and on his way inside. Slowly she turned her head and looked, a few people were standing in the middle of the hallway, but they moved and there he was.
His eyes found hers and a warm smile spread over his lips. He made his way over to her and she found herself returning his smile, it felt as if she didn’t smile much these last few days.
“Hello Kayla,” he said softly, giving her a small bow before sitting next to her on the bench.
“Hey K, it’s good to see you,” she smiled.
He nodded, “Yes, I feel like it’s been awhile when it’s only been a few days. How are you?”
She smiled again, “I’m ok thanks, how bout you? How are things going at Sony? I know you probably can’t say much, Shane tells me that all the time that he can’t really tell me anything.”
Kyu Jong smiled gently, “They are going well, I’m learning a lot.”
“Good, glad to hear it. Shane has told me you’ve taken to it really well. I’m happy you’re able to adjust so well.”
He nodded, “I am still adjusting yes, but I still have a long way to go. It does seem to get easier everyday though and that helps. Everyone I work with has been very kind to me, it doesn‘t even feel like work, I hope it stays that way.”
“I think it will, it should be fun, that’s the thing to remember otherwise what’s the point you know? Well, what do you say we go in and look around?”
He nodded and they stood, making their way in. It wasn’t as congested as it had been before, so they were able to move around a lot easier. Kayla had a fairly good idea of which class she was going to take, but she looked around anyway, wanting to leave the option open in case something else caught her eye. Kyu Jong was quiet at her side as they stopped at various tables, he looked info over. He carefully looked over all the information, often times comparing two of the itineraries the same time. She wasn’t sure what he was looking for if anything at all, but he seemed to be and he hadn’t found it yet apparently.
She wanted to talk with him more, but this wasn’t really the time or place for it now, there were too many people around and it would make listening to each other difficult. She enjoyed their talks though, granted the last few had been not under the best circumstances, but even then, he’d been unbiased, which had been great for her. Unfortunately, none of her friends could do that considering their history with Terrance in some shape or form, Kyu Jong didn’t have that yet so that made him neutral in a sense.
Kayla couldn’t help but wonder if there would ever come a time when Kyu Jong and Terrance would meet and if so, how would that go?
“Have you decided what course you’re going to take?” Kyu Jong asked suddenly.
Kayla looked over at him and nodded, “Yeah, I’m just gonna go with the one following the last one I took. I think it’s best to just go in order, really build my skills and I‘m familiar with the teacher, even though he can be a bit intense, I know his style and all, it‘s a bit comfortable in that sense.”
He nodded, “Which one is that?”
She pointed to the table and they headed over, the teacher from was there he said hello to Kayla and she introduced him briefly to Kyu Jong and he handed them each a stack of papers.
Kyu Jong read them over, nodding, “I think I will go with this one too if you don’t mind. There seems to be a few things that are familiar and that aren’t, I think this would be a great place for me to start.”
“Of course I don’t mind, I think it’ll be fun to be in the same class together!” Kayla smiled.
“Really? Good, I did not want to impose on you in any way.”
“Not at all, it’s gonna be fun and at least you’ll know someone in the class, not that you wouldn’t be able to make friends of course, but at least it won’t be so lonely right from the beginning.”
He smiled, “Yes that’s right, that’s a good way to look at it. I’m glad you are ok with it.”
She was more than ok with it, the thought of him attending classes with her made her exceptionally happy for some reason. They headed out and over to the registration desk.
“Kayla hey, so what are you…oh!”
Kayla smiled as she watched Lejna’s face turn bright red when she noticed Kyu Jong standing there.
“Hello Lejna, it is nice to see you again, it’s been a while,” Kyu Jong said smiling and bowing.
“Hello! It’s really good to see you as well and it has been a while, I can’t believe you remember my name.”
“Your name is different, it would be hard to forget, very pretty,” he said softly, giving her a wink.
Lejna’s eyes widened and she giggled, “Thank you.”
“How have you been?”
“Good, I’ve been ok, how about you? I’m surprised to see you here,” Lejna stated, giving Kayla a ‘why didn’t you say something’ look.
Kayla smirked.
“I’m glad to hear it. I am well, busy getting everything set up at work, but I am good. Kayla told me that she would be registering and I’d been wanting to look into doing some acting so Kayla was kind enough to ask me along. Oh and thank you for asking after me, Kayla told me you had been looking for me that second night, I am sorry I didn’t see you for that performance, but I appreciate you inquiring about me,” Kyu Jong said sincerely.
Lejna looked away shyly, “Oh well…you know, you were so nice to me and I…well I was hoping you’d be there again.”
“Ahh mianhae, I am sorry I wasn’t there,” he gave her an apologetic smile.
“Oh, you don’t need to apologize, you have a life and all, I didn’t expect you to be there all the time, I mean every time, all three nights…I…” she stopped, biting her lip.
Kyu Jong chuckled, “I understand.”
Kayla was enjoying this, Lejna was so cute and Kyu Jong wasn’t doing much other than engaging in simple conversation, but Lejna was obviously quite flustered.
“If I may ask, what class did you sign up for?” Kyu Jong questioned.
“Oh uh…the one following the one me and Kayla just finished, I figured I‘d just go on from there.”
“Oh yeah? Me and Kyu Jong are registering for that one too,” Kayla grinned, looking between the two.
Lejna’s face lit up and she looked over at Kyu Jong, “Really? You’re going to be in the class with us?”
Kyu Jong smiled and nodded, “Yes, I hope you’ll take care of me.”
“Take care of…yes, yes we will. I will help you out in any way that I can definitely.”
“Thank you,” he smiled, bowing again.
She blushed more and Kayla watched the interaction with amusement, this was going to be an interesting class.
a/n: Hello all! Another chapter and more issues. Poor Kayla, she's trying but Terrance isn't being helpful at all, he even has the nerve to push the blame on her. Score another point for Kyu Jong, way to listen and let her vent, more helpful than he realizes. Isn't Lejna cute? Seems like she's quite taken with Kyu Jong and who wouldn't be? Feedback and comments always welcome! Thanks for reading and I'll see you on the next chapter.
Chapter 36: I haven’t been on this platform since 2015, and just got back into SS501 after a dream I had of their comeback (still waiting) and Kyu Jong’s real IG postings. I really hope the boys are doing well. I don’t know when the next chapter will come but I just binged 12 chapters of this fanfic, and I’m so excited for the SK adventures. Rooting for Kyu Jong and Kayla! Thank you keeping this story alive <3
Chapter 36: Yippee! Just in time for my yearly update! 😂 By the time we're all done the real Kyu will be married with a child going off to college 🤭 Looking forward to SK & meeting the gang. Oh boy, hope Kayla isn't too frightened at first 😆. I'm sure Kyu will warn them to be on their best behavior. Which will last about 5 seconds. 😉
Chapter 35: OMG 😱 jumping up & down, squealing. YES,!!! Kyu on the move. Baby steps, well perhaps we're in the toddler phase, moving forward, sometimes a bit wobbly & unsure but moving steadily. I've so missed these 2 & I'm so happy I poked my head in & found your update. I can't wait for the trip. Vacations bring you closer to your travel buddy in ways you wouldn't otherwise. Sometimes you share hotel rooms but really it's that you're constantly together. Taking in the same exciting views & sharing of delicious food, how can your bond not get closer
Chapter 2: I like him…. He seems thoughtful and empathetic. I love that he came to her performance for opening night and made her feel seen. That’s a powerful thing to do for someone who’s passion has been disregarded by those you love
Chapter 1: I had assumed that the male lead was an OC too- don’t know why I made that assumption- but since I still have no sense of who he is I’m going to continue to read it as such. It’s truly the best way to enjoy a story, and this one seems to be like that so far
Chapter 34: Finally gotten around to reading the latest chapter, and I must say... GOOD RIDDANCE! Hated that bastard since the beginning, so I am pleased that he's gone now. Still pecking around the makeout scene I see, but I can wait (I think). Well, now that Terrance is out of the way we can have bonding time between Kyujong and Kayla ;) though, I've been wondering if there will be any fans recognizing Kyujong? Or paparazzi? I know, US and Korea are different but the thought still comes to mind. Great chapter, so glad I had the opportunity to read it :)
