Chapter 22

Falling For You

“Good job Kyu Jong, I think we’re ready to start mixing this. We should be ready to release this as a single by the end of the month,’ the director announced.

Kyu Jong smiled, it felt like all of his work was going to start to finally pay off. He made his way out and over to the breakroom, he was feeling really good now, scared, but good. He felt his phone vibrating in his pocket and pulled it out, looking at the screen to see it was his agent, his good mood vanished. He sighed, sitting in a chair, taking a deep breath before answering.

“Hello?”

“Kyu Jong hello! I was just calling to tell you, you got both parts. You’re needed one full day for each. I will get back to you with the days so we can set everything up with the company and with Sony. Congrats, this happened fast for you,” his agent announced.

Kyu Jong’s face lit up, “Really? Thank you!”

“Nothing to thank me for. Be on the lookout for my email with the info. It probably won’t be for a while, so you’ll have to time to clear your schedule.”

A few minutes later, Kyu Jong hung up, he really was on his way.

Friday Afternoon

Kayla made her way to her car, she’d gotten the email from the director that the cast list had gone up and planned to stop on the way home from the store to see where she’d been cast. Tonight, was movie night, so she had to pick up some things to bring. She’d contacted Kyu Jong to see if he had gotten the email and he confirmed that he had and they decided to meet up there to see the casting results together. He too had some things to get he’d told her. She offered to pick him up from Sony so they could go together, but he refused for her to “waste her time to come out to get him”

Chuckling, she pulled out of the parking lot, headed to grocery store and wandered around for a bit trying to decide what to bring. She didn’t know what went with Korean food, seemed wrong to bring American food considering. Kayla checked on her phone, but most of the ingredients she’d never heard of before and didn’t know where to find them in the first place. Making her way down the international foods aisle, she looked around. She didn’t know what anything was, she couldn’t tell if it was Korean or not. She scanned the shelves when her eyes stopped on something that looked like a greenish black thin paper, it said seaweed. She remembered seeing that as one of the ingredients and grabbed several packages, unsure of how much was needed and made her way out. She called Chanile to see what she was bringing and was told she would be bringing a cold pasta salad since she wasn’t sure what to get with Korean food either. After hearing that, Kayla decided to go with dessert as her main contribution once again and figured that was a relatively safe way to go.

After getting apple and French silk pies, she headed over to the school to check the results. Once in the parking lot, she got a message from Kyu Jong saying he was already there and was waiting for her inside. Smiling, she hurried in, realizing how much she wanted to see him. Kayla walked quickly down the hall, she was more excited to see him than to see the results. Everyone got a part, so that wasn’t a worry and while she wanted a decent role, it was already decided, no use in getting upset over it.

She turned the corner and stopped, there was Kyu Jong sitting in one of the chairs that lined the wall. He turned his head and saw her, his eyes lit up and he stood and something inside her fluttered, her heart started racing unexpectedly as he made his way over to her, giving her a small bow.

“Hello Kayla ssi, it is good to see you,” he smiled.

She let out a breath, trying to calm her heart, “Hey K, good to see you too, Did you see what part you got yet?”

He shook his head, “Ani, I wanted to look with you.”

“Aww K that’s so sweet. Well I won’t make you wait any longer, let’s go look!”

For a moment, just one moment as they headed over to look at the two lists, she wished that she would get the lead and her leading man would be…

“Oh! I go the lead in the musical,” Kyu Jong said suddenly, the shock apparent on his face.

Kayla looked over on the musical list, but didn’t see her name, while she didn’t want to be in the musical, suddenly she was disappointed she wasn’t for some reason.

“Kayla ssi look,” Kyu Jong said.

She looked at the list for the play and saw her name as the female lead.

“Congratulations Kayla,” Kyu Jong said softly, giving her a wide smile.

“Thank you,” she whispered, her eyes drifting over to the other sheet again, seemingly of their own free will.

Her eyes scanned, searching for his female lead, her heart dropped again when she saw Lejna’s name.

“You’re with Lejna as your leading lady.”

Kyu Jong grinned, “Ne, I’m happy I’m with her.”

Kayla brought her gaze to him, “Congratulations K.”

“Thank you,” he chuckled, looking back at the list.

Kayla continued to watch him, why did she feel like she’d lost something she’d never had?

Several Hours Later

“I can’t believe this, what the hell did I just watch?” Chanile practically yelled.

Kyu Jong gave her a sympathetic look.

“How…I mean…Why did she pick the ? He treated her like throughout and he wins? Are you kidding me right now Kyu Jong?” Chanile demanded.

Kyu Jong shook his head, “Ani, it’s what happened.”

Kayla was stunned too, they’d finished eating and had finally finished the drama of Kyu Jong’s and the ending had taken both her and Chanile by surprise. Chanile seemed to be taking it the hardest though, the anger very apparent in her eyes.

“I don’t believe this, so he just sits back and watches his so-called “friend” steal his woman? Seriously?”

Kyu Jong bit his lip, trying not to laugh, “Well she didn’t feel that way for him anymore.”

“Like hell she didn’t, she just needed some convincing. This is crap man,” Chanile fumed.

Kayla couldn’t help but chuckle, still she understood Chanile’s anger, it hardly seemed right, that she would choose him after all his Mother did to her.

“I am sorry Chanile ssi,” Kyu Jong said softly, giving her a small bow.

Chanile’s eyes widened, “N-no need for that, it’s not your fault, I tend to get heated,” she blushed.

Kyu Jong gave her a gentle smile, “I understand.”

Chanile blushed more, “Well, this was great anyway, the food was amazing, I loved being able to try food from your home.”

Kyu Jong nodded, “Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it. I will make sure to text you the names so you can look them up,” he promised.

Chanile nodded and stood, walking over to put her shoes on and get the goody bag Kyu Jong had packed for her with tons of leftovers. Kayla followed her over, slipping her shoes on, looking over in time to see Kyu Jong helping a suddenly flustered Chanile on with her coat. Shaking her head, he reached out, grabbing her light sweater she’d brought, starting to put it on, when it was taken from her hands and held open. She turned her head to see Kyu Jong smiling at her.

“Thanks K,” she grinned, slipping her arms inside.

Chanile waved her goodbyes before leaving.

“This was really great tonight K, I enjoyed it, thanks for having us.”

“Yes, I look forward to my next turn.”

“Me too, though I think this will be hard for you to top. Well I’m gonna get going, congratulations again on your part.”

“Ahh thank you, same to you Kayla.”

She looked at him and found she couldn’t look away. Kyu Jong continued to watch her as well, taking a step closer and her heart started racing again.

“Goodnight Kayla,” he said softly.

“Goodnight K,” she replied.

They stared at each other a moment longer before she turned and made her way out the door.

Two Weeks Later

Kayla made her way inside the apartment, yawning. It’d been a long day at work, she was glad to be here. Luckily, she didn’t have rehearsal that night, so she could truly relax.

“Hey you,” Shane called as he made his way out the kitchen.

“Hey, long time no see,” she said, making her way down the hall to her room.

A few minutes later, she headed out to the kitchen.

“Dinner is just about ready, we’re having goulash with salad and Italian bread,” Shane announced, stirring the pasta in a large pot.

“That sounds great, I’m starving.”

They sat down to dinner and got caught up on what was going on in each others lives. After they finished eating, they cleaned up and Shane headed out to hang out with some friends. Kayla sat on the couch, turning on Netflix to look for something to watch and somehow managed to find another Korean drama. She was bout 30 minutes into it, when the doorbell rang.

Frowning, she paused the drama and started towards the door, trying to figure out who would be there, she wasn’t expecting anyone. Unlocking the door, she flung it open, her eyes widening.

“Hey Kayla.”

She blinked, “Hi Terrance.”

He looked down for a moment before looking back up at her, “Can I come in please?”

She nodded, stepping aside so he could make his way in, shutting the door after him. She watched him wearily as he turned to look at her.

“What’s up Terrance? Why are you here?” She asked.

His features softened, “I miss you.”

Kayla let out a breath, just watching him.

If you're not the one for me
Then how come I can bring you to your knees
If you're not the one for me
Why do I hate the idea of being free?

“I was wrong, what I said to you, what I told you to do, it was wrong. I know I haven’t been the best boyfriend, seeing that someone else was doing what I should’ve, made me mad, I didn’t mean what I said.”

“Yes you did or else you wouldn’t have said it,” Kayla announced firmly.

Terrance winced and looked away.

“Is it really hard for you to think I can just be friends with another guy? Don’t you trust me?”

“You know I do,” Terrance said softly.

“Do I? I’m not so sure,” Kayla said quietly.

He frowned, making his way over to her, reaching out to take her hands in his.

And if I'm not the one for you
You've gotta stop holding me the way you do
Oh honey if I'm not the one for you
Why have we been through what we have been through

“I do trust you, it’s just…”

“Just what?”

“That guy, I don’t trust him,” Terrance stated.

“You don’t have to trust him, you have to trust that I won’t let anything happen. That said, you don’t have to worry about Kyu Jong, he’s a good man and a good friend, just a friend. I’m going to have friends that are male, I have and I do. I don’t get why you’re having such a hard time with him in particular. I will continue to hang out with him and talk to him, he’s my friend, you’re my boyfriend. I need you to trust me,” Kayla stated.

It's so cold out here in your wilderness
I want you to be my keeper
But not if you are so reckless

Terrance just looked at her and she stood her ground, she would not back down to him on this. He reached out pulling her into his arms, hugging her tightly.

“I really missed you. When a week passed and I hadn’t heard from you, I knew I’d really messed up. I wanted to call or come by to see you, but I was being stubborn and it’s been busy at the hotel,” he sighed. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, giving her a squeeze.

If you're gonna let me down, let me down gently
Don't pretend that you don't want me
Our love ain't water under the bridge
Say that our love ain't water under the bridge

She sighed softly, always the same thing with him, she’d come to expect it, still after being in his arms, she realized just how much she missed him.

“I’m gonna try harder to do better, I know I said that before, but I really mean it. I’ll find a way to make more time for us, go on more dates or just come over to relax, watch a movie or something, ok? I promise Kayla,” Terrance said firmly.

What are you waiting for?
You never seem to make it through the door
And who are you hiding from?
It ain't no life to live like you're on the run

“That’s all I ever wanted Terrance, just for you to be here, I want you to be with me sometimes, you work so much and I just…” she sighed.

“I know baby and I’m sorry.”

“It’s not too much right? To just want your love and maybe just a little attention, just a little…Is that me being selfish?”

“No,” he said softly. “I’ll do better, just trust me.”

Have I ever asked for much?
The only thing that I want is your love

She closed her eyes, burying her face in his chest, she so badly wanted to believe him.

Say that our love ain't water under the bridge

A Few Days Later

Kyu Jong sipped at his coffee, looking the itinerary over for the days activity. He felt good, he had for a while with everything with his album and with the musical, he finally felt as if he were starting to fit in a bit. He’d made more friends at work and at rehearsals, it was a great feeling. Just then Shane poked his head in and called for Kyu Jong to come on, the van was ready.

Today was his first interview in the states, he was insanely nervous about it. He’d been going over what he was going to say the last few days, but nothing could really prepare him until he did it. He knew what to expect in Korean interviews, it was for the most part, always the same questions, the same responses. Here he didn’t know what he was doing. Kyu Jong knew that he didn’t have a lot to worry about as far as length, he’d only have to answer four or five quick questions, since he was so new, a lot of time wouldn’t be focused on him. He figured he’d use this as a learning opportunity. Getting his stuff up he headed out the room.

Later that night

“Good job today man, you handled that interview like a pro, wow I’m impressed. One would’ve never knew you were scared less,” Shane grinned, smacking Kyu Jong on the arm as they sat in his car.

He’d insisted on giving him a ride home after since Shane was actually going home early for a change.

Kyu Jong chuckled, “Thank you hyung, I was very nervous. Luckily it wasn’t too bad.”

“Right, now you’re ready for anything,” Shane grinned.

Kyu Jong nodded, smiling.

Shane sighed, “I guess I’d better go in. Hey, you wanna come down for dinner? Kayla is out on a date, I don’t want to eat alone, I’ll whip us up something.”

Kyu Jong frowned, “A date? Is she dating someone else now?”

“I wish, no her and the made up again. He came and took her out about an hour ago, she texted me to tell me, so I wouldn’t be worried when I got home,” Shane explained.

Kyu Jong looked ahead, inexplicable emotions coursing through him.

“So, come on, let’s eat!” Shane announced, making his way out the car.

Kyu Jong sat there for another moment, trying to gather his thoughts, sighing heavily before getting out.

A Few Hours Later

Kyu Jong finished preparations, closing the top of his laptop before picking up his phone and dialing.

“Yeoboseyo?”

“Annyeong hyung.”

“Yah, Kyu Jong, good to hear from you. Are you all done? Everything set?”

“Ne, I will be there towards the end of April for two weeks,” Kyu Jong announced.

“Daebak! Did you clear everything with your management and such?”

“Ne, I’m all clear and I’ve let the director of the play know, by that time rehearsals will be starting to wrap up and I’ve made arrangements to get in as much practice as possible so I’ll be ready to go when I get back.”

“Ok good, I look forward to seeing you. Not that I’m not happy about it, but what made you decide to come home all of a sudden?”

Kyu Jong sighed, but remained quiet for a moment, he wasn’t sure how to answer because he wasn’t sure of the answer himself.

“I just felt it was time Young Saeng hyung, I miss my family and the members, I miss my home.”

Young Saeng was silent for a moment, “Is that all?”

Kyu Jong blinked, “Eh? What do you mean?”

“How are things with Shane hyung and Kayla ssi?” Young Saeng asked suddenly.

Kyu Jong’s jaw dropped, “Oh, fine, Shane hyung continues to help and take care of me.”

“Mmm and what about Kayla ssi?”

“It’s fine, she’s well.”

Young Saeng said nothing.

“I told you she found out about me, it’s gotten better and then everything with my birthday, it’s good,” he said softly.

For some reason, he couldn’t bring himself to talk about her making up with Terrance, it was hard to talk about, even harder to think about.

Young Saeng was quiet a moment longer before responding, “That’s good Kyu Jongie,” he said quietly.

He hung up a few minutes later, buying his face in his hands. Young Saeng was suspicious, Kyu Jong could tell, he knew there was something else, but would wait until Kyu Jong told him, though he wasn’t sure it was himself.

What Kyu Jong did know was that he needed to get away for a bit.

A Week Later

Kayla flipped through the stations, unable to find anything to watch. She was bored and had nothing to do. She tried calling Terrance, but of course, he didn’t answer. He’d tried, or was trying to do better, but after their date a week ago, she’d barely seen or heard from him again. She had the distinct impression his Mom was making him pay for that date, her as well. It’d been worth it though, at least that’s what she kept telling herself. She couldn’t help but think of her day out with Kyu Jong for his birthday during it.

Terrance had gotten call after call, he kept trying not to take them, but they just kept coming, he spent more time on the phone dealing with “issues” than he actually did with her. His Mom was trying to prove a point, seeing that most of the calls from her under the guise that it was thing only he could take care of. She’d never had that problem with Kyu Jong on his birthday or ever and he was releasing an album.

She let herself fall back on the couch, she hadn’t seen Kyu Jong in a while, she really missed him. They’d spoken a bit before class and then on the drive home, he’d seemed so sad somehow. Kayla had hoped he’d talk to her, but he hadn’t. That was Monday, it was now Friday and she hadn’t heard a peep. She knew he was busy since his single was going to be released soon as Shane had informed her one evening over dinner. Kayla was excited for him and he hoped to see about having some kind of listening party with him to celebrate, but she hadn’t spoken to him. She frowned, she really missed him, the more she thought of him, the more she missed him, this was worse than when she’d found out he was famous.

The knock at the door interrupted her thoughts, she hurried over, unlocking it and swinging it open, her eyes widening.

“Mom!”

Jennifer Jacobs smiled back at her, “Hi!”

Kayla reached out, pulling her Mom into a bone crushing hug right there in the doorway. Her Mom chuckled, wrapping her arms around her, giving her a quick squeeze.

“Ok Kayla, I can’t breathe.”

Kayla reluctantly pulled away, ushering her Mom inside, “What are you doing here?”

“I thought I’d surprise you,” her Mom replied, pulling her coat off and hanging it up in the closet.

“I’m so glad you’re here, I’m so bored. Shane is out with friends and Chanile is busy.”

Her mom nodded, picking up the grocery bags she had in her hands and bringing them over to the table and setting them down. Kayla’s Mom was amazing, her and Kayla were very close, always had been, but even more so after the divorce. Her Mom was one of the best women she knew, and she’d be happy if she ended up being even a bit as good as her. Where her Dad had been judgmental and distant, her Mom had been supportive and always there for her, she couldn’t have asked for a better Mother, she could tell her anything.

“So, have you eaten?” Her Mom asked.

Kayla shook her head, “No.”

“Good, I’ve brought the fixings for dinner.”

“Mom, you don’t have to cook,” Kayla frowned, watching as her Mom started unloading the bags.

“You’re helping of course,” she grinned.

Kayla chuckled, watching as her Mom made her way into the kitchen.

“So, how’s everything Mom? Work ok?”

Her Mom was an LPN and a hairdresser and while she appreciated the fact that Kayla had become a medical secretary, she more wanted her to do what made her happy and fully supported her theater career, it’d been one of those causes of constant arguments between her and her Father, though her Mom never made her feel guilty and had told her time and time again, she would gladly argue over and over with her Father if it meant supporting something that Kayla loved to do. To this day, she still felt somewhat responsible for their divorce as stupid as it sounded.

“It’s ok, busy as usual. Dr. Harris is looking to hire a few more nurses to take the pressure off all of us, but that’s a whole process, so it won’t be anytime soon.”

Kayla frowned, pulling out some pans, “So are we making what I think we’re making?”

“Yup, Italian bread boat,” her Mom grinned.

“I haven’t had this in years, I don’t even remember how to make it.”

“Good thing I do,” her Mom smirked, “and you’re still helping.”

Kayla groaned, shaking her head, trying to stifle a smile.

Her Mom was funny to put it lightly and had always been a favorite amongst her friends. Just then there was another knock at the door.

Her Mom looked over at her in question, “You expecting someone?”

Kayla shook her head, “No,” she said, making her way over to the door again and once again, pulling it open. “K!” She smiled, happiness flooding her.

He bowed and gave her a gentle smile, “Annyeong Kayla ssi.”

“Come in,” she started.

Kyu Jong shook his head, “Ani, I don’t mean to bother you, I just needed to see if I could borrow a couple of eggs from you? I ran out and didn’t realize, I haven’t had the chance to do any shopping lately, I’ve been so busy.”

Kayla frowned, “You can’t visit?”

He blinked, seemingly a bit startled by the offer, “I…”

“C’mon, please? There’s someone I want you to meet,” she smiled, reaching out to take his hand and lead him in.

She knew she was being pushy, but she really didn’t want him to leave. Kayla led him to the kitchen where her Mom was, her back to them as she was cutting the loaf of bread.

“Mom,” Kayla said and felt Kyu Jong stiffen and she gave his hand a gentle squeeze.

Her Mom turned, and her eyes widened when she saw Kyu Jong.

“Jennifer Jacobs, I’d like you to meet Kyu Jong Kim, K this is my Mom.”

Ms. Jacobs looked over at her, “Why didn’t you tell me you and Terrance finally broke up?! Is he your new boyfriend?”

Kayla’s eyes widened, “Mom!”

Her Mom made her way over to Kyu Jong holding out her hand, “It’s great to meet you!”

“Mom, I did not break up with Terrance, we’re still together, K is my friend and upstairs neighbor we rented out to,” Kayla explained, staring at a very nervous looking Kyu Jong.

“Oh really?” Her Mom frowned. “I’m sorry young man, wishful thinking I guess.”

“Mom,” Kayla sighed, trying not to smile.

Somehow, she couldn’t bring herself to be upset with the mistake.

“Mom, this is the man I told you about, that Shane rented out the upstairs portion of the townhouse.”

Kyu Jong bowed, “Hello oma…uhh Ms. Jacobs,” he stuttered, looking slightly embarrassed.

She waved him off, “Forget that, call me Jen, it’s nice to finally meet you, Shane and Kayla have told me a lot about you,” she announced, reaching out to shake his hand, seeming unsure of how else to respond to the bow.

“Oh really?” Kyu Jong said, blushing further.

“Mmm hmm, Kayla went on and on about how sweet you are and how you helped her when she was sick, every Mom wishes for a man who would take care of her daughter that way. Too bad it wasn’t her boyfriend,” she sighed.

Kayla nodded, she couldn’t help but to agree on that point, as much as it pained her to do so.

“Mom, how long are you visiting for?”

“Just for the week, I have a recertification to take care of and a couple hair shows to go to in the area.”

“Ahh, then I must go, I do not want to interrupt your time with Kayla,” Kyu Jong announced suddenly, turning and starting for the door.

“No no, wait K, you forgot the eggs,” Kayla said, reaching out to take his arm.

“I’ll be fine, it was just for ramen.”

“Ramen? That’s what you’re having for dinner?” Kayla frowned.

“Ne.”

“Why don’t you have dinner with us?” Ms. Jacobs offered suddenly.

Kayla’s eyes lit up, “Yeah! Good idea Mom.”

Kyu Jong shook his head, “Ani, I don’t want to intrude.”

“Please? C’mon, there will be plenty, you have to have more than just ramen,” her Mom reasoned, heading back over to the counter. “You can even help us make it,” she chuckled, giving him a wink.

“Ooo that just sweetens the pot! You have to now K!”

Kyu Jong chuckled and nodded, “Ok, if you’re sure.”

For the next hour they prepared the filling and then put it into the cut-out bread boat and put it in the oven to bake before heading into the living room where Kayla’s Mom got to know Kyu Jong better.

“It must be hard to be in a foreign country, you miss your family a lot I bet.”

Kyu Jong nodded, “Yes I do, very much, but everyone here has been so kind to me.”

“Well that’s good, I hope Kayla and Shane are included in that.”

Kayla frowned, “Ma!”

Kyu Jong chuckled, “Yes, they’ve been very helpful, especially Kayla. She’s made adjusting so much easier, she is a great woman,” Kyu Jong smiled.

“Yes, she is,” her Mom smiled, looking over at Kayla.

Kayla blinked, feeling her face starting to heat up, “Stop that you two, K you know I haven’t been the best.”

“Ani, you have Kayla ssi, you know how I feel about all that.”

Ms. Jacobs looked between the two in fascination.

Kayla gave him a pained look and Kyu Jong smiled.

“You are a good friend Kayla, you do not need to worry.”

Her Mom looked over at her, “I like him, you should be with him instead.”

“Mom

Kyu Jong’s eyes widened, and he cleared his throat.

“Well I do and you should be, he’s a true man,” her Mom stated matter of factly.

Kayla shook her head in amusement. Several hours later, Kyu Jong headed to the door, getting ready to leave, a piece of the Italian bread wrapped in foil.

“Thanks for staying for dinner K, even though I really didn’t give you a choice.”

Kyu Jong smiled, “It was nice of you to have me.”

“Kyu Jong, you can borrow one of Shane’s coats until you get back home,” Ms. Jacobs said.

Kyu Jong bowed, “Thank you Ms. Jacobs, but I am fine.” He couldn’t bring himself to call her by her first name, seemed disrespectful.

“Mom, he’s just upstairs,” Kayla frowned.

“I don’t care if he were right across the hall, it’s cold out there, he can’t go out without a coat on again, what would his Mother think if she saw that?” Ms. Jacobs stated, walking over to the closet and pulling out one of Shane’s winter coats.

“Mom…” Kayla sighed.

Heavy winter coat in hand, Ms. Jacobs walked over and motioned for Kyu Jong to turn around, which he did after a moment of hesitation and she helped him to put it on before coming around in front of him and zipping him up. Kayla watched as Kyu Jong studied her Mom intently, his gaze gentle on her.

“Ok, that’s better,” she smiled at Kyu Jong.

“Gomawo ommani,” he said softly.

She blinked, “Huh?”

Kyu Jong smiled, “Sorry, thank you I mean.”

Ms. Jacobs waved him off, “Stop apologizing. Be careful going…”

“Mom, he’s just going upstairs, he’ll be fine,” Kayla said in exasperation.

“I’m a Mom, I can’t help but worry.”

He smiled again, “It is ok, I appreciate your concern for me. I see now where Kayla gets it from.”

Kayla and Jenny’s eyes both widened.

“Goodbye, it was nice to meet you,” Kyu Jong bowed.

Kayla opened the door and watched as he left before turning to look at her Mom who watched her knowingly.

She stared at her Mom, “What?”

Ms. Jacobs smiled, “You tell me.”

“There’s nothing to tell, he’s a good guy.”

“A great guy, I get good vibes from him,” her Mom stated.

“You used to get good vibes from Terrance too.”

Ms. Jacobs nodded, “Yes, I did, but that was before he changed and became a different person, someone no longer worthy or good enough for my daughter. You are an adult Kayla, you make your own decisions. I have never told you who you should date, and I never will, but I will say that young man that just left is special. I don’t need to know him for long to see that. Kinda makes you wonder doesn’t it?” She questioned.

Kayla hesitated for a moment before responding, “Wonder what?”

“What it’d be like to be with him…” Ms Jacobs said softly.

Her jaw dropped, and she stared in shock at her Mother.

“Ahh, that means you’ve thought about it huh?”

Kayla blinked, shaking her head ‘no’.

Ms. Jacobs chuckled and shook her head, “Careful Kayla, your true feelings are showing.”

~~~
Kyu Jong hung up the coat in the closet, smiling. He really liked Kayla’s Mom, she was very nice and, in some ways, reminded him of his own Mom. She certainly didn’t hide how she was feeling, it did allow him a certain bit of pride that after just meeting him, she stated she wished he was dating Kayla. While it was embarrassing, he couldn’t help but feel good.
If they were actually looking to date, that’d be one hurdle passed. Typically, in his country, you only meet parents when the relationship is at the level where marriage is imminent, it wasn’t done that way here and it felt weird to have already taken such a big step. Granted, they were just friends, but it was still weird for him and what he was used to and yet, he couldn’t help but feel relief that she’d said she liked him.
Sighing, Kyu Jong walked over to the kitchen and set the bread in the fridge. He knew now that his trip back home was even more necessary. Maybe going home would stop those thoughts he didn’t want to acknowledge.
A/N: And here we are back again after what...almost a year? I'm beyond late with chapters and it's just plain mean, sorry for taking an obscenely long time to update. I'm off on "vacation" right now helping a family memeber recover from a surgery a few days ago, so I'm trying to get as much writing done as I can. As I stated in my story feed (please check that out on occassion, I will be posting any news there for this story as opposed to my main feed unless it's to announce a chapter update), I will be cutting down on the length of the chapters going foward, so it shouldn't take as long for me to write and post them, hopefully. This chapter and the next will be the last a full length, I'm gonna do my best to not hurt or take away from any plots, but I'm hoping this will allow me to update a lot faster and more consistantly, but it may take longer to get to some things and extend the story out a bit, which I have to be careful of because I am not one to drag a story out needlessly. I can reexamine later and if I need to, add length to the chapters, but hopefully three pages will be enough. I had been told they were excceedingly long and sometimes made it hard to catch up with, I only did so because I took so long to update, wanted it to be worth your while after waiting for so long.
This was a nice chapter right? Casting is done and it seems like Kayla has some regrets and yet, she's unsure why. Then Kyu Jong gets to meet her Mom and they have dinner...a lot of nice things going on here and maybe not so nice since she did make up with Terrance. I can just see the angry comments, sorry to all but Kayla is still trying to make that relationship work, she has no real reason not to.
I hope you'll look forward to the next chapter and thanks so much to all those that are still here and reading and waiting paitently, it is appreciated! Feedback/comments are always welcome!
'Till next time!
Chapter 36: I haven’t been on this platform since 2015, and just got back into SS501 after a dream I had of their comeback (still waiting) and Kyu Jong’s real IG postings. I really hope the boys are doing well. I don’t know when the next chapter will come but I just binged 12 chapters of this fanfic, and I’m so excited for the SK adventures. Rooting for Kyu Jong and Kayla! Thank you keeping this story alive <3
Chapter 36: Yippee! Just in time for my yearly update! 😂 By the time we're all done the real Kyu will be married with a child going off to college 🤭 Looking forward to SK & meeting the gang. Oh boy, hope Kayla isn't too frightened at first 😆. I'm sure Kyu will warn them to be on their best behavior. Which will last about 5 seconds. 😉
Chapter 35: OMG 😱 jumping up & down, squealing. YES,!!! Kyu on the move. Baby steps, well perhaps we're in the toddler phase, moving forward, sometimes a bit wobbly & unsure but moving steadily. I've so missed these 2 & I'm so happy I poked my head in & found your update. I can't wait for the trip. Vacations bring you closer to your travel buddy in ways you wouldn't otherwise. Sometimes you share hotel rooms but really it's that you're constantly together. Taking in the same exciting views & sharing of delicious food, how can your bond not get closer
Chapter 2: I like him…. He seems thoughtful and empathetic. I love that he came to her performance for opening night and made her feel seen. That’s a powerful thing to do for someone who’s passion has been disregarded by those you love
Chapter 1: I had assumed that the male lead was an OC too- don’t know why I made that assumption- but since I still have no sense of who he is I’m going to continue to read it as such. It’s truly the best way to enjoy a story, and this one seems to be like that so far
Chapter 34: Finally gotten around to reading the latest chapter, and I must say... GOOD RIDDANCE! Hated that bastard since the beginning, so I am pleased that he's gone now. Still pecking around the makeout scene I see, but I can wait (I think). Well, now that Terrance is out of the way we can have bonding time between Kyujong and Kayla ;) though, I've been wondering if there will be any fans recognizing Kyujong? Or paparazzi? I know, US and Korea are different but the thought still comes to mind. Great chapter, so glad I had the opportunity to read it :)
