PROLOGUE

It was a warm and sunny afternoon in Seoul; it had been hours since Lin and her parents moved from America to South Korea. She was an only child. She had left all her previous friends behind; promising to keep it touch with them. But, truth be told, who honestly keeps in touch with their former friends when they’ve moved to another country…an ocean away.

“Baby, I see a bunch of kids in the neighborhood playing, why don’t you go join them?” Lin’s mother hinted as she was gathering things from the outside to bring into the house to finish unpacking from their move. Lin sauntered outside and she glanced as she saw two boys playing basketball. She hid behind her mother as she saw one of the boys gazing over and smiling.

“Mom, they’re boys! I don’t want to play with them,” Lin shyly replied.

“Don’t be silly,” Her mother interjected slightly laughing encouraging her daughter to meet some new friends. “Go over there and introduce yourself and play some basketball with them.”

The boys mid-stopped their playing, and the older boy smiled waving his hand for Lin to make her way over. Lin hesitated a bit, but then she mustered up some courage and she sauntered over.

“Hi, my name is Seungho, and this is my little brother, Cheolyong.” Seungho introduced himself and his little brother; as he had the most genuine smile Lin had ever seen.

“Hi,” Lin spoke timidly. “My name is Lin.”

“Nice to meet you,” Seungho extended his hand as he shook Lin’s. To him, her hands were so soft. She smiled ever so serenely at him as he held onto it a few seconds more; finally letting go.
