Chapter Six

The Hustle

CHAPTER SIX;

Morning came quickly and the both of them were still sound asleep. The night before drained every single last ounce of energy they had in their bodies, leaving them in a coma-like state. It wasn't until past 12 pm that Lu Han started waking thanks to the small whimpers coming from his bed mate. She was lying on her wounded side which made her feel extremely uncomfortable so he pushed her to her back.

Feeling like he owed her all the favours in the world, he got up from the comfortable bed and decided to make her some food after freshening up. Once he came back with some hot pancakes, he almost dropped the plate when he didn't see a petite vixen in the bed. He placed the plate down quickly before inspecting the entire room. Finally, he stumbled upon her groaning body on the bathroom floor.

", what the do you think you're doing?" He rushed over to her side and tried to pick her up.

"Get off of me," She swatted him away. "I don't need you or your manhood!" She seethed and it hurt a bit to hear her still holding a grudge against him.

"Just shut up and let me help," He sighed deeply and carried her in his arms much to her dismay.

Once placed on the bed, she scooted as far away as possible, hissing in pain. He sat beside her and placed the plate of food next to her, but she simply ignored it and stared at the ceiling.

"Look, tianshi-"

"It's Yuri." She snapped, still averting her gaze to anything except Lu Han's.

"I know I shouldn't have snapped at you, but it's just a pride thing!" He finally exploded which made her flinch- but only a little bit. "I didn't mean to make you lose trust in me- if we even had any! You don't know how ing sorry I am and how stupid I feel for-"

"Lu Han shut the up!" She screeched and he finally let out a breath before sitting back down. "Jesus, you're emotional. I don't need a partner who's an emotional wreck so pull yourself together." She mumbled and pulled the plate of pancakes towards her, earning a smile from him.

"So what are the plans for today?" She asked, mouthful of food, but it didn't seem as disgusting as it sounded. She actually looked quite cute, if he did say so himself.

"A lot of rest," He chuckled.

"What?" Her eyes were wide as she stopped chewing which made his eyes zero in on the small chocolate chip smudged at the edge of her lips.

Without answering, he brought his hand up and gently cupped her cheek, his thumb swiping the chocolate. Then, all too casually, he placed his thumb between his own lips and it off. Her eyes followed his thumb while his were glued to hers. Their eyes locked and it seemed like everything started blurring. Not one of them seemed to blink.

God, how we wanted to get lost in those eyes of hers. He desperately wanted to kiss her, too, but what if he messed things up even more between them? Especially since they just mended things not even an hour ago. But the urge was too overbearing and he felt stuck in place so it was up to her to stop things from getting out of hand. He would do anything to know what was running through her mind.

Did she want him to kiss her? Or did she want him to move?

"Come on, tianshi, just say something and I'll do it!" He shouted in his mind as the space between their lips seemed to disintegrate.

Yuri, however, was also frozen. There was this little annoying voice in the back of her mind telling her to move away as quickly as possible, but it was overruled by something louder- her heart. She was curious to take a taste of his lips that seemed to tempt her a lot lately.

Actually, everything about him appealed her, but she just hasn't taken the time to take a good look. Physically, he was lean and perfectly built as well as a few inches taller than her, but it may be his personality that might top it off for her; he could be caring, gentle and incredibly sweet under his cold and dangerous attitude. Yet she felt like there was more to discover about him.

"Kiss him already. Just kiss him!" Her mind shouted to her.

Lu Han was already close enough for her to feel his body heat. His hands were already holding her face and stared into her eyes as if she meant the world to him. She somehow managed to wriggle her way to his lap where her legs were draped over his, hugging his waist. Her hands were placed upon his shoulders, slowly pulling him closer.

At that exact moment, she looked so incredibly different from the norm. She looked calm, very serein. Her eyes weren't as cold or boarded up as usual- they were completely warm and showed how innocent she was. There was also a pink hue to her cheeks which he found so damn cute.

But then something had to ruin their moment.

"Ah!" She winced in pain when he accidentally pressed on the bruise under her eye.

", sorry," He pulled back and quickly assessed her wound. "Did that hurt?"

"Well it certainly didn't feel too good," She giggled and he almost froze upon hearing it.

Yuri sounded so young and innocent when she giggles which made him desperately want to hear her laughter. A true smile would suffice, too, even though he has already seen it, but they were always fake and sadistic.

He sat by and admired the natural and real beauty before him. Her heated cheeks were like a work of art and he felt damn proud to be the reason behind it. Of course, it wasn't like that before. The only look she sent him was a glare, but now she had a hint of what seemed to be a smile on her lips- those lips that he would've kissed if he wasn't stupid enough to ruin the moment.

"I-I think I'll go take a bath or something if you don't mind," She slowly got up and wobbled towards the bathroom.

"Do you need any help?" He shot up.

"No," She blushed even harder and turned back to rush into the bathroom. He let out a low chuckle and sat on the edge of the bed, ruffling his hair while smiling idiotically.

He was so close. So very close. He could still even smell her soft and unique scent lingering the air around him. God he was going crazy over the aspect of almost kissing her and it made him lust after the thought of actually touching her lips with his.

"Stop, stop, stop," He paced around, tapping his head repeatedly whenever he would think of her- which was all the time. "Get a grip,"

"A what?" She emerged from the bathroom, slightly limping.

Right off the bat, Lu Han was by her side, helping her back to the bed. He felt like a little puppy; following his master and growling whenever anything or anyone tries to hurt her. She mumbled a thanks before lying back, closing her eyes.

"If I'm going to stay stuck in here, we might as well make a plan for the next target." She said, eyes still closed.

"Right," He got up and started pacing again, deep in thought. "Next is Joonsuh," He stated, recalling every detail that might become the downfall of his current boss. "He won't be as easy as the last, though he's not as tough as the rest."

"Makes perfect sense," Yuri rolled her eyes.  "How can we infiltrate his territory?"

"Well..." He trailed off, thinking. "He is trying to find a good maid,"

"Well then, I guess I'll be doing some cleaning very soon." She smirked which made him smirk, too.

The conversation about Joonsuh was long forgotten as they were placed in the midst of an endless silence. They both stared at anything but each other, but it was a bit difficult since their eyes would sometimes fall on the other. At some point, Lu Han didn't give a anymore and blatantly stared at her, watching her eyes flicker to him and to something else.

"That's not creepy at all," She chuckled lightly.

"Well if I'm not doing it, you sure as hell would," He playfully rolled his eyes.

"Maybe," She muttered under her breath and he heard it all too clearly.

"You're a weird one, tianshi," He chuckled and leaned on the vanity facing the bed and her. She raised a brow and his tongue just suddenly shot out and swiped his lower lip. "You seem to be polar opposites confined in one person which is quite interesting."

"What?" She frowned. "What are you saying?"

"I mean, you look absolutely y no matter what you do and even when you don't realize it, but you have these moments where you are so innocent and flat out cute." He said it with a look of disbelief. "One minute you're staring at me with these cold eyes and then, when the moment comes, your eyes hold more warmth than... Than... Than ing hot chocolate!" She flinched a bit.

"Hot chocolate?" She couldn't help but let a small giggle slip.

"Yes, and then you have this thing where you are willing to kill anyone and anything that steps over you yet you flinch whenever someone curses or shoots a gun o-or when you see blood!" He gushed, running his hand repeatedly through his hair. "You are an enigma- one of which I would like to discover."

Yuri was smiling throughout his banter, but then it fell the moment he said those last words. Those words just hit her harder than a ton of bricks and they made her realize her huge mistake of letting him get closer than she needed him to be. He shouldn't be gushing over her, he shouldn't be so close to the point where they could kiss, and he shouldn't be caring for her well-being.

He shouldn't be making her like him.

There was nothing to discover about her except the fact that she had a bad past and was trying to get herself closure in all the wrong ways. He needed to stop and take his distance, because whatever was brewing between them needed to stop- immediately.

"Hey, are you okay? You seem tense," He placed a hand on her knee and she quickly removed it.

"I'm fine," She suddenly got up which made him wonder what had gotten into her. They were just fine a few seconds ago; laughing, smiling and almost kissing.

"Well, I was certainly right about what I said," He told himself.

"I'm... I'm going," She stated and didn't know why, and didn't know where to go. She just needed to get away from him before something more starts developing.

"Where?" He asked curiously and started walking after her, but she raised a hand, stopping him.

"Just somewhere, I'll be back later. I just need time to myself," She stated coldly and he was taken aback. He slowly nodded and she her heels to walk away.

"What has gotten into her?" He wondered out loud once she was out the door. He just hoped that she wouldn't get lost- especially in her current state.

***

", , ," He cursed repeatedly, pacing the room for the millionth time in that hour only.

Yuri left exactly 5 hours ago and hasn't returned since. It was getting dark outside and he was debating to go out to look for her or wait a few more minutes to see if she would come strolling back in. His answer came to him when he heard the door click open and close.

"Where the hell have you been?!" He shouted and wanted to yell even louder when he saw her.

She was all bloodied and bruised. She looked like the wind could carry her off her feet in one gust, but she was still trying her damn hardest to keep strong. He rushed to her side, but she idly brushed him off and carried on dragging her feet to the bathroom.

"Answer me, Yuri, where have you been for the past five ing hours?" She couldn't help but flinch when he cursed. She hated how her name seemed to roll off his tongue so smoothly, even when serious.

She kept quiet.

"Answer me!" He bellowed, his voice giving her the biggest shock of the day. She froze for a second, pondering whether or not to turn around, but ended up locking herself in the bathroom. He in a breath and walked around, forcing himself not to explode from frustration. He was inching closer to the possibility of losing all his hair from pulling on it too much.

The minute she stepped back out- less bloody but still battered up-, Lu Han immediately cornered her and she barely had the energy to yell at him- let alone push him away. He roughly placed his hands on either side of her, basically punching the walls and leaving a few cracks. She flinched, but held her ground easily.

"I don't like being ignored," He seethed, but stopped himself from exploding. "You left me here worried and then you come home covered in blood and bruises?" He sounded shocked himself, but was still boiling.

"So what? My well-being is none of your concern," She scowled, using all the aching muscles in her face to do so.

"Tell me where you went off today," He demanded and she only scoffed.

"I killed Joonsuh, happy?" She snapped and he was taken aback.

"W-What?" He asked, disbelief evident in her voice. "How?" His features contorted into anger. "We were supposed to go together! You could have been killed!"

"And here I am, alive." She shot back. "This just goes to show you how capable I am without your help."

"Is that what you're trying to prove? That you're much better than me?" He fired at her yet she remained silent, feeling that her point was proven already. "HUH?" He punched the wall next to her, but this time, she didn't flinch. "Because I know that! I know that you feel that everyone needs to bow down to your feet and kiss the ground you walk on!"

"It's not like that!" She finally raised her voice to where it broke and his anger seemed to fade. "I don't need to ing impress anyone and rub it in their face that I'm better!" She shouted, pushing him off with little force, but he still removed himself.

"Then why did you go off on your own, huh? Tell me," His voice simmered to a low tone.

"We should go our separate ways," She muttered which caught his attention.

"What? Why?"

"Because we're getting too close for comfort," She frowned. "Sooner or later, one of us will get hurt and it sure as hell isn't going to be me. I don't need romance right now. I have other things to worry about,"

"Then when will you need it?" He questioned, voice deep with something resembling agony.

"No time soon," She pushed herself off the wall. She started picking her things up and shoving them in her bag, hoping to get the job done as quickly as possible and as quietly as possible. Suddenly, his hand came into view, perched on top of hers and she jerked back.

"Stay one more night before leaving," He asked- almost pleaded, his voice husky for some reason.

In the state that she was in, it was a sure fact that she could never travel- especially during the night. So many things could happen traveling like that, but things could still happen staying in the same bed as Lu Han. However, the pleading look in his eyes won her over. For a man, who had as much pride as he did, to be on the brink of falling to his knees and beg. She answered with a small nod and she could see a ghost of a smile on his lips.

"At least let me treat your wounds," He said and she nodded again, not wanting to get her wounds infected.

While dabbing some alcohol on her cuts, he couldn't help but examined her carefully. He had to admit it, but not out loud, that he was starting to get a liking towards her. She was everything he wanted and didn't want. She was beautiful, smart, but wasn't boring. She had a bit of a spice to her; she was witty and tough.

"You got hurt, too?" Her voice came out small, frightful even.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, I guess those jackasses got a few good punches in," Lu Han shrugged, focusing more on the task at hand. If she was so intent on leaving, he had to make sure that she was perfectly fine before leaving.

"You're still bleeding," Her eyes skimmed over his face and she blushed when he gave her a boyish grin.

As heartless as she might seem, Yuri did in fact have a beating, warm heart. She had her moments of sympathy and times where she did show her old self. She used to be so happy, innocent and simply pure. She basically radiated all and anything that represented joy.

"I'm fine-"

"Shut up and let me treat you," She mocked his deep voice while grabbing a piece of cotton.

"But you-"

"I'm fine," She continued to mock in a playful manner and he couldn't help but let a chuckle escape.

For another few minutes or so, Yuri carefully dabbed the alcohol dipped cotton over the cut above his eyebrows. Her touch was so gentle that it was surprising since those were supposedly the hands of an assassin. Lu Han didn't bother to protest, hoping that this was another chance given to him to get closer to her. A few seconds was enough to satisfy him.

"Done," She said just as he was about to inch a little bit closer. When she pulled away, he drawled out a deep sigh to which she chose to ignore. "I'll take the couch-"

"No," He answered roughly, but quietly, too. "Just sleep on the bed, please." He held her wrists and she didn't give up much of a fight since she was tired out.

Eliminating Joonsuh was harder than she expected especially since he took extra precautions to protect himself by literally drowning in a pool of bodyguards as well as have one posted up at every door, every hallway and anywhere you can walk. Yuri struggled infiltrating his home and had to brawl with a few men who left her in bad shape, but then the main battle happened in his bedroom where she was against a whole army. She managed to escape, but not without a few scratched here and there. Fortunately, she got away with all her bones intact.

Just as she dozed off, she felt something warm grasp her waist and pull her to an even warmer surface. As much as she hated physical contact, Lu Han's touch was just comforting and very relaxing- especially when he rubbed circles into her back.

And that's just what he did.

AUTHOR'S NOTE;

Things are getting intense between them :o

This chapter was mostly a filler one since it's not possible for any human being to go on a non-stop killing spree without being knocked down a few times.

In the next chapter, things get heated~
