Internally taking a deep breath, Krystal gathered her courage to speak. “So, how are you friends with Jongsuk oppa’s girlfriend?” she asked as casually as she could.
He moved to the other side of the table that Jongsuk and Shinhye recently vacated and answered simply, “She was my childhood friend. How are you friends with Shinhye’s boyfriend?”
“Childhood friend,” Krystal replied in the exact same manner.
“Oh.”
The two awkwardly sat in their seats, unable to meet each other’s eyes because they had absolutely nothing to talk about. Until Minhyuk remembered a very special incident over the weekend.
“How’d you find the music shop?”
Surprised by how he suddenly spoke, Krystal struggled to think what he was talking about until it clicked. Then her next struggle was how to answer properly.”Um, well, I just- happened to be in the area,” she spoke half of the truth. She just didn’t explain why she was there.
He nodded in understanding. Although he was burning with curiosity about why she had cried that day, he knew better than to ask. But, to his immense astonishment, she brought up the topic herself.
“Minhyuk, about what happened in the shop,” she began slowly, blushing a little at the embarrassing incident, “could you not tell anyone about it?”
He smiled gently. “Never did, and never will,” he assured her before changing the subject, “So what are you doing in Mrs. Hong’s food tent?”
It took Krystal a few moments to answer. “Not sure. Maybe because her food is so good,” she admitted.
Minhyuk couldn’t disagree with that kind of answer. Neither could Mrs. Hong. “Oh, thank you for the compliment, Krystal,” she gushed as she arrived with food for Minhyuk. “But when you’ve been cooking for half a century, it should be a given that your food is delicious!”
She gave them a wink to indicate she was joking, and both Krystal and Minhyuk broke into chuckles. “This looks as delicious as usual,” Minhyuk complimented the elderly woman who only beamed at him before moving on to attend to other customers.
Not wishing to feel the usual awkwardness that would always surround them, Krystal grabbed onto the first reasonable topic that popped into her mind. “So, uh, have you started on Professor Song’s project yet?”
Professor Song had recently assigned a huge project that was nearly 20% of the students’ final scores, and considering the facts that it was not
