Forever With Yoo

(YJ) – Young Jae speaking
(DH) – Daehyun speaking

(GY) – Grandma Yoo speaking

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Do you think this looks good?” (DH) Daehyun raised the shirt up to cover his torso, his eyes locking in on Young Jae as he awaited his answer. Just as Grandma Yoo had said, they were going to go shopping for Daehyun. Of course, the two teens had assumed that Grandma Yoo was going to only buy coats for him, but apparently, she wanted to practically buy a whole new wardrobe for him. It was rather weird, but Daehyun decided to go along with it as long as it was just a few clothes. After all, he didn’t know how long he was going to remain like this nor did he want to be impolite by declining her despite the fact that she was constantly insisting. So, they were now at the mall, though Grandma Yoo had left them with one of her cards in Young Jae and Daehyun’s care while she did a bit of her own shopping. “Well? I want to look extra good since your grandmother was kind enough to give us her card.” (DH)

“Um… I… I think it looks nice… I don’t know…” (YJ) Daehyun sighed as he lowered the shirt down. Well, it’s not like he cared too much about fashion, but he didn’t want Young Jae’s grandmother’s money to go to waste. Buying clothes that he wasn’t going to wear would ruin the whole point of them being at the mall. So maybe it would be better if he just decided on his own.

“Well… I guess it’s alright if I try it on then. Hey, help me pick out some more clothes that we can both wear… you know, in case I… end up leaving again. I don’t want these clothes to go to waste you know.” (DH) Young Jae nodded, though he didn’t like the idea of Daehyun possibly disappearing again. He wanted to hold onto his memories of Daehyun no matter what happened, but… he did have a point. It would be better if they both picked clothes that they each liked. At least that way, Young Jae would be able to wear the clothes if Daehyun really did end up disappearing again. Of course… he hoped that if it did happen, it meant that Daehyun had finally woken up from his coma.

“Um… I-I like… this one.” (YJ) Young Jae picked up a yellow hoodie that had a rabbit in the center. Daehyun looked at the hoodie for a brief moment before frowning. Looking back at the rack, a grin came onto his face as he picked up a gray version of the hoodie. Both had a rabbit with a mask on it, but the color of the mask matched the color of the hoodie.

“This one’s better.” (DH)

“But… I like this one…” (YJ) Young Jae looked at the hoodie, a bit torn between going with Daehyun’s choice or sticking with this one. Daehyun took a moment to think, but unlike Young Jae, he was actually coming up with quite a nice solution to the problem. With a grin, Daehyun took the hoodie from Young Jae’s grasp before draping it on top of the rest of the clothes he had picked up.

“Then we’ll get them both and call them couple hoodies! People will be so jealous to see us in matching hoodies. They’ll know instantly that we’re dating.” (DH) As Daehyun began walking, Young Jae took a moment to imagine the scenario that Daehyun had just proposed. At first, it seemed like a normal day with them wearing the matching hoodies. It was nice and such, but when they actually made it to school, Young Jae’s face reddened as he realized that people might be staring at them. He almost wanted to say no to Daehyun’s idea, but… he decided that he actually wanted to try it out. Young Jae… wanted to know what it felt to have an open relationship with someone.

Following after Daehyun, Young Jae bit his bottom lip as he kept his gaze down. For whatever reason, it just now hit him that Daehyun really might be a spirit. If that was the case, then… was it alright for him to be dating a spirit? This really sounded like something out of a movie or a video game, but he didn’t recall anything like that from any movies or video games he’s seen. How was he supposed to know if it would be alright?

Looking up at Daehyun, he could see that he was carefully looking through the items. There had to be some sort of way to see if Daehyun really was telling the truth, right? Clearly, touching him should have been proof enough that Daehyun may have been lying, but the fact that he had completely forgotten about Daehyun for an entire week was also proof that Daehyun had been telling the truth. It was confusing, but he was jus going to have to completely trust that Daehyun was telling him the truth about his condition.

“Hey. Is this considered a date?” (DH) Young Jae stared for a moment before his eyes widened. What would make Daehyun think something like that?! Just because they were together and shopping doesn’t necessarily make it a date… did it? How was Young Jae supposed to know what was considered a date or not anyway?! He’s never been on one before! “I mean… we can make it a mini date until your grandma picks us up, right?” (DH)

Did it work that way? Were there such things as mini dates? Young Jae didn’t understand how dating worked at all, but if there really was such things as mini dates, then… Young Jae wouldn’t mind considering this a mini date. It just meant that they could get closer this way, right? “U-Um… I-I think that it’s okay if… we um… consider it a mini date.” (YJ)

“Great! Then it’s settled. We’re on a mini date!” (DH) Daehyun grinned before he turned and began walking again. Young Jae turned a little red, feeling a little embarrassed to be on a ‘mini’ date now. He had kind of hoped for a little more of a romantic first date, but this was alright too. Of course, he hadn’t exactly expected to be dating a male in the first place, so his first date ideas were already gone down the drain. “Hey. Let’s go try on these clothes.” (DH)

“O-Oh… okay.” (YJ) After grabbing a few more articles of clothing, Daehyun led Young Jae towards the fitting rooms. Once there, the employee led them to one of the changing rooms before putting a number on the door handle and walking away. Daehyun grinned as he stepped into the room before turning to look at Young Jae, whom merely stood a comfortable distance away.

“Well? Come on! You have to try it on too. The room’s big enough for both of us.” (DH) Young Jae’s eyes widened as he quickly shook his head, trying to ignore his quickly reddening face. They may be on a date and all, but that didn’t mean that it would be alright for them to just openly change with one another in a changing room! They haven’t even had their first kiss yet! “Oh, come on! Don’t be shy. I do this all the time with Jongup.” (DH)

After setting the pile of clothes down on the bench, Daehyun walked back over to Young Jae before taking his wrist and pulling him into the dressing room. All Young Jae was able to do was let out a small yelp before the door was closed and locked behind him. Once inside, Young Jae was mentally freaking out as he kept his back pressed up against one of the walls. Noticing this, Daehyu chuckled a bit as he grabbed one of the shirts and tossed it towards Young Jae. “Try it on! We’re both men, right? There’s nothing to hide between us.” (DH)

“T-T-This isn’t comfortable!” (YJ) Daehyun shook his head a bit as he tried to think. All of the clothes that they were trying on were here and they both needed to see if it would look good on each one of them. Sure, they could just constantly switch it between two stalls, but that was just tiresome. Plus, this didn’t feel all that weird to Daehyun. Okay, so he was used to changing with Jongup when they were younger, but it was almost the same thing. The only difference was that they were dating and not siblings.

“Just… don’t think about it too much! Here, I’ll go first. You’ll see. It isn’t so bad once you get used to it.” (DH) Young Jae’s eyes widened as he reached out in an attempt to stop Daehyun. However, the second Daehyun began taking off his jacket, Young Jae found himself frozen in place. It was one thing to have already seen Daehyun shirtless, it was another to see him stripping right in front of him. It was definitely a different feeling and Young Jae couldn’t help but find himself staring, secretly wanting to see a little more. Once Daehyun hung his shirt and his jacket on one of the hooks, he held his hands out to the side a bit as he smiled. “See? It’s not so bad. Go ahead. You do it too.” (DH)

Young Jae hesitated, but he found himself reluctantly nodding. With his gaze low, Young Jae quickly turned around before slowly stripping away his jacket. He just had to keep reminding himself that they weren’t going to be doing anything but trying on clothes. It was as simple as that. There was nothing to worry about… right? It’s not like they would get into trouble or anything for trying on clothes. “So what do you think?” (DH)

Hesitating for a brief moment, Young Jae took in a deep breath before slowly turning towards Daehyun. When he spotted Daehyun, he let out a relieved sigh as he saw him wearing one of the shirts that had been picked out. Pursing his lips, Young Jae took a moment to think. He did like the shirt, but Young Jae wasn’t necessarily certain if the shirt was all that great when worn. “Um… Maybe put it on the maybe list…?” (YJ)

“Maybe list? Uh… Okay, sure. Let’s make a maybe pile then.” (DH) Without hesitation, Daehyun stripped away the shirt and tossed it off to the side before picking up another one. Young Jae didn’t understand how Daehyun could be so open with showing off his body. Would Daehyun be able to answer him if he asked about it? Would it be too embarrassing to ask such a question? “You need help? Here! Let me help you!” (DH)

“W-Wha-” (YJ) Young Jae gasped as he suddenly felt his shirt being lifted, causing his stomach to be exposed to the cool air. Being taken by surprise, Young Jae soon found himself staring at his own shirt. Since he hadn’t raised his arms for his shirt to fully come off, Daehyun had ended up lifting Young Jae’s shirt over Young Jae’s head. Young Jae could hear a chuckle in front of him before he felt his arms being lifted upwards for him. Once his shirt was off, Young Jae attempted to cover himself with his arms as he shivered a little.

“See? Not so bad! Come on. Clothes won’t try themselves on.” (DH) Once he had hung Young Jae’s shirt and jacket, Daehyun picked up the shirt that Young Jae had dropped just mere moments ago. Opening it up, Daehyun bunched it up a bit before putting it over Young Jae’s head and putting his head through the opening. With a grin, Daehyun left Young Jae to finish dressing himself as he turned around and went to go put a different shirt on.

Keeping his gaze low, Young Jae slowly put his arms through the sleeves as he tried to keep himself calm. It felt… really weird to have someone else take his shirt off of him, but… he kind of liked it. Was that weird? It shouldn’t be… right? After all, couples seemed to do it often in movies and him and Daehyun were technically a couple now… but it was too early in their relationship to do something like that, right? “Hey! It looks great on you.” (DH)

“H-Huh?” (YJ) Young Jae looked up before turning towards the mirror. Staring at his reflection, Young Jae turned here and there to see if the shirt really did look good on him. Of course, Young Jae wasn’t really that great of a judge when it came to stuff like this, but he did like how it looked on him. With a shy smile, Young Jae briefly bowed his head as he began fiddling with the hem of his shirt. “U-Um… thank you…” (YJ)

“Here, try this one now.” (DH) Young Jae flinched as he suddenly felt cloth practically collide into his face. Pulling the article of clothing off of his head, Young Jae looked at it for a brief moment before he began changing. Well… at least he was getting used to being shirtless around Daehyun. Sure, he didn’t like being shirtless in front of people, but if they did end up staying a couple, then it would be best to get used to it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“I think your grandma gave us a really high limit… We still have a lot left over.” (DH) Even after going to about three different stores and picking the best clothes that they definitely liked, they still had a lot of money left on their limit. They had made certain not to buy too much clothes, but now they didn’t know if they were supposed to spend the rest of the money that Young Jae’s grandmother had said that they could spend.

“Um… Can we… buy stuff that isn’t clothes…?” (YJ) Daehyun took a moment to think as they wandered around the mall. He didn’t know if they were allowed to do that, but Daehyun didn’t see any problem in that. After all, Young Jae’s grandmother did say that they could buy whatever they liked. She hadn’t necessarily specified that they were only allowed to buy clothes.

“Sure. What did you want to buy? Oh! I uh… I remember seeing this picture in a magazine once. I don’t remember where I saw it, but this guy had this really cool looking leather thing on him. At least… I think it was leather. He was shirtless, but it looked really cool. I wanna get something like that.” (DH) Young Jae took a moment to think, but he couldn’t think of anything like that. Maybe one of these days, he might figure out what Daehyun was talking about, but until then, he would just have to remain confused about it.

“I um… I don’t know where to get that, but… um… I want to buy some video games.” (YJ)

“Really? Let’s go then! There has to be a bunch of games that are fun.” (DH) Daehyun reached over to Young Jae before linking their pinkies together. With a warm smile, Daehyun looked forward before he began to lead the way through the crowd of people. Young Jae turned a little red as he turned his head downwards, but he couldn’t help but smile as he looked at Daehyun.

“Can we eat first? I’m hungry.” (YJ) Daehyun looked at Young Jae and nodded before he looked forward once more. Had it not been for the fact that the game store and the food court were in the same area, well… Daehyun would have chosen to go to the food court anyway. Though, as they neared the food court, Daehyun came to a stop before he turned to look at Young Jae.

“You know what… We should eat at a restaurant instead. Let’s go to the game store first, then find your grandma and put the bags in the car. Then we can eat at a restaurant!” (DH) Well, technically, the food court had fast food restaurants, but Young Jae understood what Daehyun meant. Though, for whatever reason, Young Jae had begun thinking about Daehyun’s schooling. He knew that Daehyun has had home schooling, but Young Jae didn’t know how much he had learned. Maybe he could teach Daehyun a little bit when they get home. He thought that Daehyun really was studying whenever he borrowed his textbook, but whenever he had looked over at Daehyun, he either had another book over the textbook or he was sleeping. It was a little worrisome, but Young Jae wanted to help out Daehyun. He just had to make sure to bring it up when they got home.

“O-Okay. Um… I’ll call my grandma then.” (YJ) Daehyun nodded before turning back around and leading Young Jae again towards the game store. Pulling out his phone, Young Jae scrolled through the list of contacts before pressing his grandmother’s name. Hopefully his grandmother would be okay with this idea. Young Jae didn’t really know if his grandmother was okay with eating out, but she usually didn’t have any objections to it either.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Oh my… I haven’t been on a date with such handsome young men since your grandfather brought me on such a romantic moonlit dinner on the boat he used to own about… five years ago.” (GY) Grandma Yoo let out a hearty chuckle as she neatly unfolded her napkin before draping it over her lap. Young Jae usually loved hearing the stories that his grandmother had to share. Even if she did repeat some of them, they were always full of life. “My… Your grandfather was such a handsome man. He used to be a model, a singer, and an actor you know. It was very uncommon during my time, or... I believe it was. Oh dear… It still makes me embarrassed remembering how we met.” (GY)

Grandma Yoo’s cheeks had turned a bit red as she laughed off her embarrassment. Daehyun couldn’t help but chuckle a little, finding it a little amusing that someone as old as Grandma Yoo could still feel embarrassed about something. Of course, he hasn’t really had much encounters with the elderly, so it was a new experience. “It was at a concert… Oh dear… I don’t remember the album he was promoting… but I remember the date. It was… August twenty… fourth, nineteen fifty-four. We were both eighteen and such crazy kids at the time. He was performing on stage when he requested a volunteer from the audience. I was so very surprised that he chose me, but as I stepped onto that stage... I couldn’t help but just kiss him! Ohohoho…” (GY)

Grandma Yoo held her cheeks as she laughed a little more. Daehyun couldn’t help but laugh in amazement. The fact that she had just flat out kissed him was surprising. He wouldn’t be able to draw up the courage to do something like that, especially if the other person didn't know him whatsoever. “So, then you two fell in love?” (DH)

“Oh, heavens no! He had his guards take me away, but… it wasn’t until a few months later that I bumped into him at a café. Oh dear… the names he called me. Had it not been for that waitress spilling that cup of hot coffee on him, I may not have had the chance to swoon him over.” (GY) Grandma Yoo smiled warmly as she neatly folded her hands and set them on her lap. “See Young Jae? I had the moves when I was your age. You have those too. You’ll find the perfect person for you if you just act like a gentleman.” (GY)

Young Jae turned a little red as he looked in the direction opposite of Daehyun, whom was currently grinning with a victory smile. In order to increase Young Jae’s embarrassment a bit, Daehyun sat a little forward and rested his forearms against the edge of the table as he leaned a little towards Grandma Yoo. “Yeah, I’m sure your grandson will find the perfect person for him. He’s definitely got the same kind of moves you do.” (DH)

“Oh? Have you seen those moves?” (GY)

Oooh! Of course I have! He’s just as forward as you are. It’s definitely the best.” (DH) Both Daehyun and Grandma Yoo chuckled a bit, acting like old women whom were gossiping amongst one another. Young Jae couldn’t help but hold an embarrassed smile, though he wasn’t happy about this at all. It was embarrassing to have to sit here and hear them talking about him, but he would have to endure it and hope for the best. “Ah! The food is finally here. Grandma Yoo, you should eat well! The food is so delicious here that it’ll increase your age tenfold!” (DH)

“Really? Oh, then I will take your recommendation and eat well! I plan to see my cute grandson's graduation you know.” (GY) Grandma Yoo let out yet another hearty laugh as the waiters set the dishes down in front of each one of them. As Daehyun instantly began eating, Young Jae had just picked up his chopsticks when he noticed his grandma pause for a moment. He thought that something may have been wrong, but when she picked up her chopsticks, Young Jae dismissed those thoughts before turning his attention to his food.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Throughout the meal, there had been a nice conversation exchanged between the three. Laughter here and there would be exchanged, showing just how nice of a time they were having. Every now and then though, Young Jae would notice his grandmother pausing or her movement would be slow and inaccurate. Sometimes she would pick up her cup with no problem, but other times, her hand would reach for whatever it was that she wanted to reach for, but she would reach for the empty space next to it instead. Whenever she noticed this, she would merely laugh it off before being able to grab the intended item. She kept insisting that she was fine, but… Young Jae couldn’t help but worry.

Now that they were finishing up their meals, Daehyun was trying to decide if he wanted dessert or not. It was quite tempting, especially since the different kinds of cakes were calling out to him, but he didn’t exactly want to be the one holding everyone up at when they were all finished. “Are you all done?” (GY)

There was a slur in his grandmother’s speech, but it was still understandable. However… this slur wasn’t normal, Young Jae was certain about this. The slurring had started about five to seven minutes ago, but it hadn’t been all that bad. Still… this was worrisome. Maybe it would be best to go home and let his grandmother get some rest. “I am.” (YJ)

“Can I have dessert to go?” (DH) When Grandma Yoo was about to speak when she suddenly seemed like she was in immense pain. She was holding her head, her eyes shut tightly, as she tried to endure the pain. However, she knew that she couldn’t ignore these sudden occurrences anymore. “Wha-… What’s wrong?” (DH)

“Grandma?” (YJ) Without any other warning, Grandma Yoo slumped over. Young Jae shot to his feet, his chair falling backwards, as he stepped over the chair legs and around to his grandmother. “G-Grandma! Grandma, what’s wrong?! Please wake up!” (YJ)

Getting up from his seat, Daehyun walked around to the pair before quickly putting a finger up to Grandma Yoo’s nose. He waited for a moment before feeling a bit of air brush against his skin. Just as he was certain that Grandma Yoo was still alive, the waiter had quickly ran up to them. “Can you call the hospital? It’s an emergency.” (DH)

“Right!” Digging into his pocket, Daehyun looked at the debit card before looking at the other two. He knew that they weren’t going to all be able to go to the hospital unless the tab was paid, though he didn’t know if they let tabs go under circumstances like this.

“I’ll go pay for our meal. You stay with her and make sure she’s comfortable, alright?” (DH) Young Jae looked up before nodding. As Daehyun went over to the host’s table to pay for their meal, Young Jae moved his grandmother so that she was leaning against the back of the chair. He fought back tears that threatened to escape, smoothing out his grandmother’s hair as he examined his grandmother’s face.

“Grandma… Are you okay…? P-Please… hang on…” (YJ) He took hold of his grandmother’s hand, giving it a light squeeze as he lowered his head. Pressing his forehead against the back of his grandmother's hand, Young Jae began to silently cry. He was worried and he knew he should’ve done something earlier, but his grandmother kept saying that she was alright. Then again… Young Jae knew that his grandmother was the type not to let her relatives worry about her. Why couldn’t he figure it out sooner?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“D-Daehyun… I-I... I…” (YJ)

“Shh… Don’t worry. Grandma Yoo will be alright. She seems like a tough woman.” (DH) Daehyun gently ran his hand through Young Jae’s hair as he held the crying boy close to his chest. The second Grandma Yoo had gone into treatment, the two had been left sitting out in the hallway. Daehyun had pulled Young Jae into a tight embrace, to which Young Jae had gratefully accepted. It was comforting for Young Jae, especially since Daehyun was letting him cry on him. “Just tell me when you’ve got it out of your system… We wouldn’t want Grandma Yoo to see her favorite little grandson crying like this, right? It would only end up worrying her even more.” (DH)

Reaching up a bit, Young Jae grabbed hold of Daehyun’s shirt, bunching it up in the process as he buried his face into Daehyun’s chest. Daehyun frowned, continuing to run a hand through Young Jae’s hair while using his other hand to rub Young Jae’s back. He hadn’t seen Young Jae cry like this before and it was depressing him, but there wasn’t anything he could do about it.

All they could do… was wait and hope for the best.

[[ My Own Thoughts:

-/ahem-
I added a little more angst than I had hoped to add.
In fact, I had originally planned for this chapter to be cute.
Was definitely not planned. It just happened.
Buuut… Yeah. Now I feel bad.
