Krystal’s Pov

That Night

A.J. never came back to school after I went back. I was distracted the whole day, trying to really understand all that she had revealed to me. In a weird way everything that I thought was out of the ordinary with her makes sense now. The way she acts, how she talks to me, she’s not like everyone else. I made my way home after school wondering when I would she her again. I hope she doesn’t run away from me. I’m tired of this “it’s about my safety line.” We can still be around each other, I know we can. Around nine o’clock I was laying in my bed holding my phone, and debating if I should call her when I heard something hit the window. I got up and moved to the window startled. I couldn’t really see what it was in the dark, so I opened it and leaned out.

“Krystal,” I heard a voice call. “I came to see if you were ok,” A.J. said from her place on the ground below.

“Oh,” was all I could muster.

“Are you doing alright?” she asked.

“I…I’m…”

“Can I?” she asked gesturing to come up.

“Uh yeah I can come down, and let you in,” I said.

“No, just stay there,” she said before moving towards the tree that was beside my window.

In a flash she had scaled the tree with her bare hands, and was sitting on a branch that came close to my window.

“Wow, everything really is different,” I stated.

“I’m sorry,” she said remorseful.

“Don’t be. I think it’s unbelievable that you can do that. But you don’t have to stay out there. You can come-“

“Don’t finish that sentence,” she said holding up a hand to stop me. “I don’t want you to invite me in your home without knowing the whole story. Vampires cannot enter human residences without permission. Right now it’s not physically possible for me to get in. That’s why when I came to pick you up the other night I made sure we went out to eat. I didn’t want you to accidentally invite me in. If you want you can make it so that I can never come in. It’s your choice and I wanted you to know that. You can protect yourself-“

“A.J. I want you to come inside,” I said suddenly.

“Krystal,” she sighed.

“Please…I have a lot of questions…”

She paused thinking before whispering so that I could barely hear, “These violent delights have violent ends.”

“And in their triumph die, like fire and powder. Which, as they kiss, consume,” I added.

She looked back at me shocked that I had even heard her.

“You aren’t the only one who can quote shakespeare. But I’m beginning to think that you know every word to all his plays.”

“I’ve had a lot of time on my hands.”

“Come in,” I insisted.

“Step away from the window,” she told me.

I did, and went to sit on my bed. A moment later she had jumped the short distance from the tree to the window, and then climbed in. She stepped in slowly looking around my room. But the next thing I knew she was doubled over clutching her nose.

“A.J. what’s wrong?” I asked moving over to her.

“Back up,” she warned.

“What happened?” I asked stepping back.

“It’s the room,” she groaned. “It smells so strongly of you,” she said turning around to face out the window.

“We don’t have to stay here if it bothers you.”

“Just let me adjust. It hit me all at once. I wasn’t prepared,” she said standing all the way back up.

“Am I causing you pain?” I asked sadly.

“You are worried about me?” she asked turning around slowly.

“Yes, of course I am.”

“Sometimes I really can’t understand your logic.”
