Minseok hated this. He didn’t want to move with his dad. Just because his mother decided to pick another rich over her own son, he can live alone. He was already a senior in high school, for ’s sake. His dream to graduate quietly as the wall flower might have changed. Now, he needed to introduce himself once again in new school in midterm. He sighed for the umpteenth time against the car’s window. His father drove the car silently with some pop music playing on the radio. He didn’t know when was the last time he had a proper conversation with his father. Maybe since his parents divorced and asking him which side he going to choose to live with. Four? Five years ago?

“I thought you’re a police officer, why would you live in the woods?” Minseok said his first full sentence as they reached the home. Their home. He was surprised and a bit disappointed when he looked around the house and only saw thick forest and the nearest neighbour would be a half mile across the road.

“Sorry, this is the only house available in short notice. I don’t want you to live with me in the quarters. You wouldn’t be uncomfortable,” his father explained. As if I’d be more comfortable here, Minseok thought.

He walked to his first class after a brief at the office. It was biology. Perfect for a morning class. He found the lab and knocked first before entering. The teacher asked him to stand next to her. He looked around and saw a standing fan near the teacher.

“Sorry, the lab needs an improved air circulation as somebody’s frog suddenly exploded. I’m Mrs Park, your biology teacher. Please introduce yourself to the class,” she said. Nobody’s really paying attention except for a few girls with glasses. Nerds.

“Hello, my name is Kim,” he shivered for a moment as the fan suddenly moving and blowed air against him. He saw a boy wrinkling his nose as the air flew through his direction. Rude. Minseok began to sniff himself. He smelled nice. He frowned as he continued his introduction. “Minseok, call me Minseok.” He stared at the rude guy and chose the seat farthest away from him. He didn’t need any insult on his first day.

The first day went well. Nobody wanted to get close to him. He can continue to be invisible for the rest of the term. He was on his way to the bench waiting for his father to pick him up when his tote bag created a mess. It suddenly popped off and puking its contents on the middle of the car park. He had to kneel down to collect his things hiding his head because what an embarrassment. He was so engrossed in picking his things, he didn’t realised a car was on reverse and almost collide with him.
