"What's a Steele?"
"It's like magic wand; to draw runes. The gem at the tip of the Steele will be burn your skin." Aori reached for the same metal rod she'd used a few days ago to carve a rune. "Unlike myself who is home-bound, you will need something much more accessible to you than a metal rod and fire. Thus, you will be able to carry your Steele with you wherever you go."
The blood witch searched for a metal rod at the corner of the room and snapped it with the flick of her finger. She rummaged through a ceramic pot, pulling out a gleaming stone and grinned at it.
"For you, sweet Dana; the witches have chosen a red ruby. Power and passion encapsulated within its form; you were born like a ruby."
Dana took a hasty step back as Aori's eyes glowed a dark red; bumping into Kai's sturdy chest. Kai gave Dana a worried glance before watching the fire burning beneath Aori's cauldron, turn into molten lava.
The witch attached the stone onto the metal before beckoning for Dana's hand. Kai grasped onto Dana's wrist, backing away warily. Kai was glaring daggers at the witch and Aori chuckled at the angry wolf-boy.
"She just needs a drop of blood on the gem so that nobody else can use this Steele but her. We witches have trust issues too, you know?"
Dana touched Kai's hand, reassuring him that she was fine. Kai reluctantly let go of his mate with a warning growl.
Aori whipped out a sleek steel knife, raising it towards Dana's palm. She nipped the sharp end on Dana's index, staring intently as a drop of blood easily oozed out; sizzling on the ruby the moment they came in contact. Dana shuffled back, on her cut to stop the bleeding.
Aori ed the rod into the hot lava, soldering the metal together with the gem. She pulled it out and dipped it in cold water before placing it on her work bench. Aori closed her eyes and chanted in what Dana assumed was Latin, before sprinkling black salt over the Steele.
The pair stared in enchantment as the metal rod melted beneath her touch, moulding around the crimson ruby and blanketed the crystal in full silver. The gem peeked out the tip, shimmering as the light bounced off its surface. Indents of runes carved themselves onto the shiny silver coating of the Steele, marking it as Dana's property.
Aori's dark eyes snapped open suddenly, her narrow pupils darting towards the petite frame standing next to the broad supernatural.
"It is done."

Dana fiddled with the brand new Steele in her hand. As unusual as it was, Dana was feeling some sort of familiarity with its grip. She glanced over her shoulder, noticing how quiet Kai had gotten.
"Are you alright?" she prompted, walking away from her desk to sit on the edge of her bed. Kai was lying down, facing the ceiling. He had been rendered speechless for a while now, and Dana was starting to worry. Kai opened his mouth, his eyes unfocused.
"Are you sure you want to join the Circle?"
Dana sighed in defeat, shrugging as her eyes stared blankly at the ground.
"I don't even know what to do anymore."
Kai sat up, warmly wrapping his taut arms around Dana's shoulders.
"I know you're terrified, but you should think through this first. There's a reason why Lara left the coven."
Dana found herself melting into Kai's embrace. Her heart was hammering so hard against her chest, he hadn't held her this close in a while. Everything about it felt right, like a perfectly pieced puzzle. A sudden thought tore Dana away from her daze.
"How do mates become official?"
She felt Kai turn rigid underneath her touch as he cleared his throat
