  Kai chewed on his bottom lip, sneaking glances at his mate from the corner of his eye.    "Well... it's complicated. Are you sure you're ready to hear me out?" Dana focused straight into his eyes, nodding her head eagerly. Kai was pretty sure she'd regret it.   "So good news is that Lara's got a tracker spell to find the person who brought this memory block upon you..." Kai's voice gradually faded. He averted his gaze to his feet, evidently suspicious from Dana's perspective.   "And bad news?"    Kai clamped his eyes shut as he silently prayed that she wouldn't take it too hard. "Bad news is, we kind of need to find your birth parents using that tracker spell."   Dana's heart dropped; it felt like fragile glass shattered within her, shards piercing her insides in every direction and Dana was frozen in place. She couldn't take another step; let alone say another word. She was in fear of the pain triggered if she did.   Had she not been seated right about now, her legs would've probably given way. Different emotions were overwhelming her all at the same time.    How could she be adopted?    Dana was shocked beyond belief. It couldn't have been true, she'd been living with them all her life. To suddenly find out that she was someone else's child at this stage of her life, wasn't it a bit too much of her parents? A whole 20 years had been a lie?    One could understand why Dana was rendered speechless. Kai placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.   Dana shrugged it off and turned to glare at him. "I'm not adopted."    Kai peered into her eyes, sighing. "Dana—"   "I told you," she raised her voice, "I'm not adopted."   Kai his upper lip nervously, what could he say now?   "Listen—"   "No, you listen—" Dana's voice cracked as she shouted in protest. "I'm not adopted. I'm Choi Dana, daughter of the Head Administrators."   Kai was so frustrated; he felt like stabbing himself. Wolves were an impatient bunch.   "I'm not saying that you aren't. Your parents raised you as their own, you're still their child no matter what. You're still an older sister, no matter what. They're your family. But right now, we need to find out your birth family--"   "Kai, stop" Dana's voice hitched in . She choked on empty air as a sob left her lips. "Just stop talking." Dana's breaths were shallow, each one she took was shorter than the first. She finally burst into a hysterical fit of cries as she sobbed into her palms.    Dana was shy but she was not weak. And after observing her for a long while, it seemed to occur to kai that fiesty Dana didn't make up the majority of the Choi Dana he was so keen on knowing much about. Neither was the shy girl he saw in school.    Dana had more to her than Kai could ever imagine and he honestly wanted to possess the power to read her.    The girl with her face buried into her palms was the Dana he wanted to comfort and protect. He hadn't felt so much responsibility since the day he had been chosen by the moon to lead a pack of wolves. He ran a hand through his dark locks in contemplation. He took a step forward, engulfing Dana in a tight embrace.    The girl sobbed against his shoulder as she wrapped her long arms around his neck. Kai didn't need to say anything, he was sure she needed some time to sort out her thoughts. His high body temperature was keeping her well heated in the cold weather and Dana felt a tad bit comforted by his warm arms squeezing taut around her figure.   Kai rubbed her back soothingly for a few good minutes. The Alpha was unusually patient with this one. Maybe having his mate around did help him in some way after all.    Dana eventually pulled away, wiping  stray tears still running down her stained cheeks. She looked up at Kai with a sudden glare.   "Take me home."   Kai sighed as he made a move to gather her back in his arms; but to no avail. Dana scrambled to her feet and averted her gaze.   "No— just,  get me home."   The wolf felt his chest tighten as he noticed her shivering figure and clenched fists. She was holding back so much and Kai knew that asking her to stay wouldn't make things any better.    "I'll drive the car around." Kai took off his jacket and draped it over Dana's figure, escorting her back into the house.    The moment the pair entered the house, their eyes fell upon the whole pack sitting in the living room. The whole room went silent as their sad gazes were locked on Dana, sympathetic at what they had just heard.    "Sorry, Dana. We have really good hearing. We didn't mean to." Luhan spoke gently.    Dana frowned. "I'm sorry for being a spoilsport."   Lay shook his head fervently, "No, Dana. You're our family now. What you feel we all feel, and it's understandable to feel that way. We just want you to know that we're all here for you."   Dana offered a small smile at his effort of comforting. She reached out to ruffle his hair lightly, "Thanks."    Tao ran up to Dana with his arms wide open and pulled her into a tight hug. Soon enough, Dana found herself being squeezed by a pack of lovely wolf-boys and comforting mates.    "I have to go." Dana whimpered and the boys instantly released their hold allowing Kai to walk over, taking her by the hand.   As the pair walked through the door, Dana's beady eyes caught onto Lara's, glistening with sadness. Lara gently patted Dana on the shoulder and offered her a sympathetic smile.   "You should know that I didn't want to tell you not because I thought you couldn't handle it, but because I wanted you to hear it from someone you trusted." Dana's eyes immediately flickered over to Kai. The said boy nervously ran a hand through his hair and looked away.   Dana nodded curtly and strode out the door, dragging Kai along with her. Dana honestly didn't need any sort of justification. It was almost too obvious that Lara didn't want to handle the responsibilities of consoling a depressed human mate; and Dana was okay with that. But still, she shouldn't have thought so lowly of the human girl.
