Secrets That You Can Never KnowDaeHyun
“I get one favour from JiEun.” YoungJae tells me, “Anything she can buy or do for me.”
I nod, watching him pace, having heard him say this exact same speech three times already.
“But what do I want?” he asks, he continues pacing up and down the small pathway between our beds.
“The ability to get over this offer?” I laugh and he throws his pillow at me.
“Hyung~ It has to be something JiEun can do for me. I don’t think she has mind powers…”
Again, I laugh, “She has some sort of effect on young Jell-O though.”
He nods and sits next to me, quite for a moment before looking me in the eyes. “Hyung, do you think he likes her?”
I look up at the ceiling, contemplating the possibility. Slowly I nod. “It is possible… Although he doesn’t really interact with girls all that well anyway…”
Jae nods slowly, standing again and pacing, muttering about both Jell-O and JiEun.
Then I find myself also thinking of the issue. What if JunHong does like JiEun? How will JongUp react if he does? Does he too have feelings for JiEun or does he really consider her his sister? How can I get Jae to use his wish to find out all this stuff?
I jolt up right. “I know what you can do.”
Jae looks at me startled, even falling back onto his bed in shock. “What?”
“I know how you can use your favour to our advantage.”
He tries to hide a smirk by feigning a sigh, “Since when did my favour become ‘our’ advantage?”
“Since I said it did. Now are you going to listen or not?” I move closer as he nods quickly.

“So you see JiEun, I think if you asked him it’s more likely he will say yes…” I say, watching her expression, hoping to the heavens that DaeHyun was right about word choice.
“But what if he says no?”
“Then I get my favour back.” I state clearly, “You see, the favour isn’t asking, it’s convincing him to do it.”
She nods slowly, thinking it over. One final push and – once again, if DaeHyun is right – she will go through with it.
“You have to tag along too. I mean it will just be a normal day… and I was going to get DaeHyun to come too…? So… you have to go with us.”
That’s right Dae; you pushed your way into this mess so I am going to bring you down with me if this goes wrong.
Sighing she nods, “Okay. I shall ask him when he gets home, but I can’t make any promises.”
I smile widely. Thank you DaeHyun! You have finally gotten something right. “Wonderful!” I hug the younger girl tight before leaving her alone in her room.
I rush back to my room where Dae is sitting eagerly on his bed. “Yes?”
I nod lots, “Yes.”
JunHong
“Are you sure YoungJae didn’t just want to learn how to fall face first into the concrete?” DaeHyun laughs as YoungJae – once again – falls off his skateboard. He gets up and brushes his knees off.
“It’s hard to balance Hyung…” He mutters, stepping on the board once more, before it slides away underneath him.
“You have to listen to your teacher Jae; otherwise you will never get the board to stay underneath you.” DaeHyun retaliates, drinking his soda.
I stand next to the board and YoungJae finally allows my help for the first time all day. I hold his hands while he stands on the board. “Remember to put your feet on the screws. Yeah, like that. And make sure your toes and heels are slightly off to make it even…”
He does as I tell him, “Now, I am going to pull you along here,” I point along a flat strip of concrete, “And you have to try and stay centred.”
I move slowly at first, pulling him along behind me, he watches my feet rather than the direction I am taking him.
“Hyung, if you keep looking at my feet you will end up turning… look straight ahead and try to keep a straight line.”
He nods, determined now. “Okay,” He looks ahead and I continue moving till we reach the end of the strip.
“So now, I am going to loosen my grip.” I slowly let go of his hands till I’m barely holding his fingers. “And you’re going to push off with your back foot. I’ll follow you.”
On the count of three – which is hidden under YoungJae’s breath – he kicks off with his back foot, watching the path and keeping straight as I let go of his fingers and watch him as he jumps off the board as it reaches the end of the strip.
“You let go!” he yells and JiEun giggles, with DaeHyun just smiling at him.
“You did it didn’t you?” I ask, and he freezes.
“Wait. I did it?”
I nod, “Yup. I had to let you think I was there so you had to confidence to go on. Now you can ride a skateboard.”
YoungJae smiles, picking up my board. “Thanks JunHong!”
I reach out and grab my board. “Not this board though.”
DaeHyun laughs, “Come on Jae, we will go buy you a cheap one while JiEun learns, huh?”
“Wait… What?” JiEun asks, and we stare as both my Hyung’s run away to the shops.
I fidget, my board tucked under my arms. “D…Do you want to…?”
JiEun spins back round, looking at me. “What?”
“Do you want me to teach you…?” I look at my feet, expecting rejection. But instead I feel the tips of my fringe being ruffled and I look to see JiEun on her toes smiling.
“Sure.”
