Breaking Hearts

Stand By You

Jaejoong woke up with a start when a sudden clanging sound came from the kitchen. Sitting up quickly he lifted his head up only to connect with Yunho’s chin. He had apparently fallen asleep on Yunho’s lap.

“Ow!” Jae said rubbing the back of his head as Yunho jerked awake and started rubbing his own chin and squinting at Jae with one eye open. “Are you okay?” Jae asked Yunho. Yunho just nodded as he continued to rub his palm on his chin.

“Why don’t you go back to sleep on the futon?” Jae told Yunho who obliged and slowly crawled towards the futon and flopping on it quickly falling back asleep. Jae quickly looked around when he realized that Changmin nor the two other younger boys were nowhere to be found. Quickly standing and heading towards the kitchen where the ruckus seemed to be emanating, Jaejoong found Yoochun barely able to see into the pot of something he was stirring while Junsu had Changmin lying on the floor on top of a pillow where the older seemed to be teaching Changmin his name.

“Minnie,” Junsu said while poking the toddler’s tummy then added, “Junsu.” pointing to himself. The little boy kept doing the same thing over and over even if Changmin didn’t seem to be really interested.

Jaejoong just stopped at the doorway watching his little brothers with a smile on his face. Suddenly Changmin turned his head and saw Jae. Quickly sitting up Changmin threw his arms up with a look of forlorn tainting his face. Jae couldn’t help but smile as he strode over to the little one and picked him up then combed his fingers through a tuft of Junsu’s hair that was sticking out. Placing his hand over Changmin’s forehead he shook his head when he felt that the boy still had a bit of a fever. But it seemed that the medicine he was given last night worked.

Looking at Junsu he said, “Why don’t you go and get ready for school. I’ll have breakfast ready soon.”

Junsu nodded and turned to leave the kitchen when all of a sudden he turned around and pulled on Jae’s arm tugging him down. Turning to look at his younger brother Jae settled Changmin on his high chair before kneeling in front of his brother with a look of concern on his face. “What is it Junsie?” He asked.

Junsu patiently waited on his hyung and didn’t say anything but rather squeezed both of Jae’s cheeks between his two little hands then quickly gave his hyungie kisses on the lips. “There, there, all better.” He said then turned around and headed to the bathroom.

Jae could only blink in response before shaking his head and standing up. “What was that about?” He asked out loud.

Yoochun turned his head and looked at Jaejoong then quietly answered, “I heard him tell Yunho hyung last night that he was going to give you a kiss on the lips because it could have had a oo as well. You know, since Yunho hyung was kissing you and everything.”

“O-Oh.” Was Jaejoong’s reply. Suddenly feeling nauseated by the whole situation, Jaejoong grabbed a chair and sat on it suddenly very aware of what the two younger boys witnessed the night before. “Chunnie, I don’t know what to say. I…” Jae drifted off. Yoochun turned off the stove presumably done with whatever it was he was cooking and looked at his hyung not really saying anything.

“I’m sorry you saw that.” Jaejoong started not really looking at Yoochun’s eyes. Yoochun lowered his head and began to be very interested in the design of the worn-out tile underneath his bare feet.

“Chunnie, I know that what you saw, it must have looked very wrong to your eyes. I know what we talked about yesterday at school too and I wish I knew what to say so I could make you understand.” Jaejoong ventured struggling with the right words to say.

Yoochun didn't say anything for a while but when he did he asked a question that baffled Jae. “W-When are you supposed to know that you’re gay hyungie?” Yoochun asked hesitantly glancing at Jaejoong.

“I don’t know Chun.” Jae answered honestly.

“I’ll bet my mom would've known.” Yoochun replied softly.

“I bet she would’ve.” Jaejoong answered with a small smile.

Yoochun lifted his gaze to look at Jae. He hesitantly started walking towards his hyung stopping directly in front of the older guy. Taking a deep breath, Yoochun leaned in and planted a kiss on Jaejoong’s lips. Surprised Jae drew back covering his lips with the back of his hand. “C-Chunnie!” He gasped.

Yoochun drew back and looked at Jaejoong squarely taking a deep breath and making himself stand tall before saying, “I… I think I’m gay hyung.” Yoochun said in a rush.

“Chunnie, you… you can’t mean that. You don’t know what you’re saying.” Jaejoong said in alarm.

“But I do hyung. I know why the kids in school bully me, it’s not just because of my forehead or that I’m an orphan, it’s because I’m different.” Yoochun’s confession broke like water through a dam. Then with tears in his eyes he launched himself on an obviously shocked Jaejoong and hugged him, “Please hyung, I know you think I’m just a kid, but I… I love you hyung.” Yoochun said passionately his whole body trembling.

Jaejoong was speechless especially when Yunho walked into the kitchen just as Yoochun hugged Jae. Looking at Yunho helplessly Jae tried to pull Yoochun back so he could look at his face and talk. Yunho decided to take matters in his own hands and said with a voice that Jae has never heard Yunho use, he said, “Yoochun go and take a shower. You’ll be late for class if you don’t hurry.”

Yoochun’s head snapped up and he looked at Yunho. Letting go of Jaejoong, Yoochun straightened up then ran out of the room leaving a shaken Jaejoong, a conflicted Yunho and an antsy Changmin.

“Y-Yunho, I…” Jaejoong sputtered.

Yunho didn’t say anything but rather walked over to the refrigerator to pour himself a glass of water. Turning slowly to a still shocked Jaejoong he said, “I’m sorry about that. I’ll talk to him later.” Yunho said then drank his water.

“Talk to him about what?” Jae asked quietly. “Talk to him about the fact that he saw us kissing last night? Or the fact that he thinks he likes me?”

Yunho sighed. “Just leave it to me Jae. I’ll deal with my brother.” Yunho said as he placed the empty glass on the sink.

“Deal with it? How Yunho?” Jaejoong asked his voice suddenly rising. “We haven’t even dealt with it and now you’re telling me you’ll deal with Yoochun?” Jaejoong insisted.

“Damn it Jae!” Yunho said slamming his palm against the kitchen sink.  “I said I’ll take care of it okay?” He said in a loud voice. Changmin blinked from the sudden outburst and let out a whimper.

Jaejoong didn’t respond but instead walked over to Changmin and picked him up from the high chair comforting the tot. “This isn’t just happening to you Yunho. It’s happening to me too and it’s affecting all of us.” He said in a quiet yet firm tone.

Closing his eyes and letting out a deeper sigh, Yunho shook his head before saying, “I know Jae. It’s just that Yoochun is my brother and I feel responsible for his actions.” Yunho explained.

“That may be true.” Jaejoong replied but then said, “I just think that maybe we need to think about this.”

“What’s to think about Jae?” Yunho asked suddenly afraid that Jaejoong might be rethinking what happened to them the night before. “I like you, you like me. That’s it.” Yunho said willing it to be true.

“It’s not that simple Yunho.” Jaejoong said. “This, this thing, whatever’s going on between us, it’s not just about us. It’s about them as well.”

“Don’t Jae.” Yunho said his eyes pleading at Jaejoong. “We’re not doing anything wrong.”

“Maybe not Yunho but other people wouldn’t see it our way.” Jaejoong replied.

“Why should I care what they think?” Yunho answered his voice rising.

“Because they could make things bad for all of us Yunho. I know you think that they don’t have to right to dictate on us but that doesn’t mean that they can’t do that when it comes to the younger ones.” Jaejoong replied earnestly hoping that Yunho would see his point.

Yunho shook his head in disgust. “We’re not doing anything wrong Jae.” Yunho said again. “They shouldn’t have a say on how we live our lives. It is that simple.” He emphasized.

“But it’s not Yunho. Yoochun just declared his love for me.” Jaejoong said pointedly. “If people from his school get wind of this they’ll take it to mean that we’ve influence him to think or feel this way. But more than that, he’s too young to get his heart broken carelessly. Let me talk to Yoochun. I’ll make him understand.” He pleaded.

Yunho hesitated but seeing the look on Jae’s face he relented and said, “Fine.”

-----------------------------------------------

That afternoon Jaejoong asked Mrs. Park from two doors down to take Junsu and Changmin so he and Yoochun could talk. It wasn’t easy to drop Changmin off since he’s been fussy all afternoon and had a low-grade fever throughout the day. It broke Jae’s hear to be apart from the little boy but this thing with Yoochun couldn’t wait.

Deciding to take Yoochun to the park Jae bought them a couple of ice pops before settling on a bench so they could talk. Yoochun avoided Jaejoong’s gaze and instead focused on the kites flying overhead. It was the beginning of summer and kids were enjoying the longer daytime afforded by later sunsets.

Clearing his throat Jae glanced at Yoochun who seemed to be amazed by the kites. Looking at the young boy Jae almost backed out from talking to him but knew that it was the right thing to do, even if it meant breaking Chunnie’s heart. “Chun, we need to talk about what happened last night and this morning.” Jae said.

Yoochun’s gaze dropped from the sky onto his lap. “I’m sorry about this morning hyung.” He said as he began to stub his shoe against the dirt.

“T-There’s nothing you have to be sorry about Chun. You didn’t do anything wrong.” Jae answered slowly. Willing his nervousness away, Jae looked at the boy and said, “About last night, you saw me and your Yunho hyung kissing.” Yoochun nodded but didn’t look up.

“I know that you and I talked about me and Yunho hyung being gay and I’m sorry if I didn’t give you an answer that time. Me and Yunho hyung, we like each other Chun.” Jae said softly hoping that it would crush the boy’s feelings a little less.

Yoochun’s chin dropped to his chest. Jae couldn’t help but reach out to the young boy and tuck his finger under his chin so he could look at Yoochun’s eyes squarely, “I love you very much Chunnie and that will never change. But you will grow up to find someone who will love you even more than how much I love you.” Yoochun’s eyes began to fill with tears which broke Jaejoong’s heart.

Chapter 33: Uuuh this powerful feel through the story.. cant stop the tears from flooding, You can feel the love from every moments of their live here T_T. The court scene esp portrayed realistically.. yunjae struggled with how society view their uality.. But honestly there is millions children out there who longing for bit of family warmth, and another millions who get abused even in their supposedly ideal straight parent! So it just disgusting how some people disregard the child's welbeing for their personal revenge toward gay or anything different going as far as to separate a perfectly happy family!! So really love yoochun for his words at siwon.. the world really need more this wisdom! Guess this will be one my most loved family fiction :) really adores yunjae domestic life as five whenever it is.. its so heartwarming in their younger days that as teenager yunjae able to put so much responsibility and affection for their brothers, honestly they were inborn to be umma&appa <3 and yeaaay finally they found minnie again! I think micky remember jae heck why he approach him, but to think about it changmin just toddler when they are separated lol.. well hope yunjae and their children have it fate in their favor this time they really deserved all happiness and fluffiness in the world :D <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
