The Eighth Chapter

Sehun opened his eyes and saw the clear, blue sky above him. The wind was gently blowing against his face and the soft grass he was lying on made him want to sleep again. Everything was at peace.

“Good morning, love.” A sweet voice said to him and he looked up to see her smiling down at him.

“Hey.” He smiled back. He settled his head more comfortably on her lap and her delicate hand brushed his hair.

“Your forehead was creasing while you were asleep. Did you have a bad dream?” She kindly asked.

He tried to remember what he dreamed about but to no avail. “I can’t really remember it anymore. Well, it’s fine. So what were you doing while I was out?”

She waved the book she was holding in front of his face. “Reading.”

“Why did I even ask?” He chuckled. “So, are you done reading it?”

“Yep.”

“What happened to the guy?”

She absent-mindedly flipped through the pages of the book. “Well,” She started to say. Sehun couldn’t help but notice the change on her tone. “He died. Alone and miserable. This must be the most tragic and twisted story I’ve ever read.”

Sehun suddenly found it hard to breathe. In almost a whisper, he asked, “Is that so?”

She directed her eyes down at him. He clearly saw the pity that was registered on her brown orbs. He had always loved the sparkle in them, but right now, it was empty. “He lost everyone important to him, betrayed by everyone who was around him. He continued to hope that he would be saved from that suffering. But sadly, he was denied of happiness ‘til the end and the only choice he had was to kill himself.”

Sehun noticed himself tensing up upon hearing her words. He knew that she wasn’t just talking about the book, but also about him. He refused to say anything. He refused to believe that he was the one she was referring to.

“Do you get what I mean, Sehun?”

No. Please don’t say it.

“You’ll forever be alone, Sehun. No one would ever love you for real.”

Sehun’s eyes shot open when he felt someone shaking his arm. It was a dream. It was just that ing dream again. He chanted inside his head.

“Yah, Oh Sehun, are you alright?”

His eyes darted to the girl beside his head. Her hand was still on his arm, she was the one who was shaking him awake earlier, and he could see the worry in her eyes. It was something new because her dark orbs were usually cold and didn’t give away any emotion.

“Hey, answer me.” Daesom commanded.

“Why the hell are you in here?” He growled lowly.

Daesom looked appalled. “You’re really an ungrateful little , aren’t you?” She took her hand away from him and crossed her arms. “I went inside here to wake you up for breakfast when I saw you trashing and turning and groaning in your sleep. I thought you were in pain or something so I shook you awake. And yet, you’re giving me that rude attitude?” She didn’t bother to hide the irritation on her face.

“I clearly told you last night not to enter my room.” He glared. The truth was he was just trying to conceal the shaking of his body by trying to act furious with her.

“Well, sorry for worrying about your , you jerk!” She snapped sarcastically before storming out of the room and slamming the door of his bedroom.

When she was gone, Sehun buried his face in his hands and tried to calm himself down. . He vented out his anger on Daesom who had nothing to do with his recurring nightmares. It was wrong of him to be mad at her like that. He just wanted her to get out of the room because he didn’t want her to see him looking so helpless and scared right now.

You’ll forever be alone, Sehun. No one would ever love you for real.

Sae Hee’s words echoed inside his head. He didn’t understand why those dreams were coming back again. He shouldn’t be caring about that anymore and yet, it was still pulling him back to the depths of despair.

He stood up and went out of his room. There was no sign of Daesom on the living room so she was probably in the kitchen or finally left because of his trashy attitude. Well, to be honest, he would prefer the latter.

He entered the bathroom to wash his face and calm himself down. Life was not getting any better for him. Not that he expected to. He just wanted it to be on a standstill, not getting any brighter or more miserable than it already was. He was sick of feeling anything.

He stared at his reflection on the mirror. The bags under his eyes were darker, his lips chapped, his skin ghostly pale and his eyes.. empty. He was becoming lifeless. Things would be much more convenient if he just died right now. But then again, death was something he despised for being the easiest way out.

After washing his face, he heard some noise from his kitchen. There would only be one person aside from him in that place so he went out to see her. He thought she had already left for the way he acted earlier but he found her on his kitchen. He was about to ask what she was doing when he remembered how he had treated her wrongly when he woke up. He should be thankful that she pulled him out of his nightmares.

Should he apologize? But it was partly her fault because she entered his room even though he clearly told her not to.

Daesom was washing something on the sink with her back on him. He was too shaken up earlier that he just noticed her clothes. She was wearing a black tank top that revealed her milky white shoulders and the shorts she was wearing barely covered her thighs.

“Like what you see, Oh Sehun?” Daesom slowly turned around with an eyebrow raised at him.

Sehun instantly looked away. “There’s nothing to see.” He retorted.

“Oh, really now?” She dried her hands with a towel before crossing her arms to give him a blank look.

“What are you doing in my kitchen?” He asked coldly.

“I made you breakfast.” She waved a hand at the table. True enough, plates of food were neatly prepared at the top.

Sehun eyed the food suspiciously. “I thought you’ve never cooked your whole life.”

“Well, yeah. Let me correct that then. I bought you breakfast. It’s from that fast-food store nearby. I reheated it and prepared it nicely so I could still take some credit for that.” She made her way to the table and sat on a chair. “You can thank me later.”

“And why did you prepare me breakfast?”

“We have a deal. I’m trying to be a good girlfriend so you’ll let me stay here for a longer period of time.” She nonchalantly replied. “Are you going to sit down or do you want me to pull out the chair for you and feed you?”

He ignored her sarcastic remarks and sat down across her. They started eating right after. The silence was suffocating and their eyes were avoiding each other.

“I’m sorry.” Sehun said in a barely audible voice.

Daesom’s hand froze just when she was about to take a bite of her pancake. She shot her eyes towards him. “What did you say?”

“I’m sorry.”

“I didn’t hear it clearly.”

Sehun gave her a stern look. “Don’t make me say it again.”

Daesom’s smirk formed on her lips again. “This is new. You don’t usually apologize to anyone.”

He didn’t answer her back and just continued with his food. He actually hates apologizing and setting his pride aside but he knew Daesom deserved that.

“The past would just continue haunting you unless you learn to let go of it and move on to better things.” She suddenly voiced out which caused Sehun to look at her.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Chapter 27: Even though thirteen years of marriage seems short, regardless the time given, they are truly happy. This is the most realistic ending. It’s a given and miracle to live that long when you have chronic illness.
