"So you're telling me that you're parents just made you leave right after graduation? What the hell?" Kai exclaimed from the other line. "I-" he hesitated to continue his words. "I wanted us to go somewhere after our graduation... What school are you at?"
"What do you think? The best school there is here..." Doyeon replied, keeping her phone close to her ear.
She heard a relieved sigh from the other, visioning the boy smiling. "That's... It's good for me, I mean. I got accepted into the same school."
Doyeon frowned. "What happened to studying aboard?"
"My parents changed their minds and decided it would be best for me to transfer overseas after a couple of years studying here," Kai said. "I'll be able to be with you again soon..."

I'll be able to be with you again soon... He kept his promise. Within a few months ever since their last conversation, the two friends were united again. "Seems like fate is keeping us two together," Kai said as he smiled at his friend who walked beside him. "Honestly, I was angry when I heard that you left... Summer was too boring for me without you."
But Doyeon couldn't help but feel guilty. She knew that one of the reasons why Kai was attending the same university as her was so the two could continue their friendship. "You do realize that one day we'll have to go our separate ways, right?" she whispered. "You can't always follow me around to continue this friendship."
Jongin stayed quiet for a while before speaking again, "I know. But I promised you." Doyeon gave the boy a raise of her brow in confusion. "I promised that if you left, I would leave too."

"I never said leave with me."
"But I'll follow you until you tell me to go away."

"My parents will be mad if they found out that we reunited," Doyeon commented as she sketched in her notebook.
Kai watched the pencil in Doyeon's hand make its marks on the surface of the white page. "Why do you say that?"
Doyeon set her pencil aside to grab her smoothie from the side, bringing the straw up to her lips to sip on it. "My parents don't like you, remember?"
The boy grabbed the pencil and the notebook, adding his own details to Doyeon's drawing. The corners of his lips tugged up into a small smile, "We can't always please parents."
"But we have to, or they'll end up giving up," Doyeon commented as she watched Jongin.
His movements with the pencil stopped, "But even when we do..." He gave his friend the pencil back before continuing, "They wouldn't notice us."

Doyeon continued her sketching, letting their silence take over the short conversation. The girl sensed a sad aura around the male beside her as he watched her draw. She could hear his music from his one earbud tucked over his ear. The more time she spent with Jongin, she realized they were much alike. Neither didn't want to be left alone, nor did they want to displease their parents. But they still had their differences. Doyeon was happy and life was somewhat perfect years ago. Jongin on the other hand, never got to experience having a family who gave him attention. Doyeon felt bad for him, especially when she was a bad friend to him.

They wouldn't notice us. Those words coming from Kai stung Doyeon. But now that she was living the high society life, she felt the same thing. She'll admit it–that she needed Kai with her, and she knew Kai needed her.

"One day, we need to take a trip away from here. Somewhere far away," Jongin muttered as he looked up at his best friend. "We need a break from reality for once." Doyeon couldn't agree more.
