"She will have a nice husband. A rich, handsome husband. Right, Doyeon?" her mother asked.
Doyeon looked up at her mother, away from her lunch in front of her. "Sure."
"We won't set her up though. That wouldn't be a good thing to do towards your only child," her mother continued on with Kai's mother who didn't give Doyeon's mother one glance ever since they met each other at the front door. "She will choose who she wants to be with."
Kai looked over at Doyeon nervously, then at her mother, "Do you think I would be a good match for Doyeon, ma'am?" the boy asked, grinning widely.
Her mother glanced at Kai once and clicked her tongue, "Maybe, sweetie." Translation: "Hell, no. She's going to be with someone that I approve of." Doyeon rolled her eyes, but it was more towards her mother. Part of her eye roll was for Kai who was being an idiot for asking that question. Kai opened his mouth to ask another question, but before the words could fly out of his mouth, Doyeon kicked the boy's shin from under the table, making him close his mouth immediately.

"Although I'm disappointed about how Doyeon chose to not graduate early this year..." her mother said with a frown. "Why did you reject that offer?"
Doyeon sighed, setting her fork down beside her plate. "I'm not going to college."
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm not going to continue to study," she calmly said as her mother's frown deepened.
Her mother exhaled sharply, trying to keep in her anger. "Doyeon, you know you need to go to college."
"But I don't have to." Doyeon wiped with a napkin, "Since you said that I get to chose whoever I want to marry in the future, then you should let me chose what I want to do in the future."
Doyeon noticed Kai's stare towards her, but ignored it as his mother did as well. "Doyeon-ah, going to college can get you a good job, you know. You can be a prosecutor, doctor, lawyer-"
"Which are all the things that this world already has enough of," Doyeon said, interrupting her mother in mid-sentence. "No thank you. I would like to be an artist."

"There are plenty of artists out in this world. But not all of them are successful. A lawyer and doctor is successful. You can also make a lot of money-"
"In my adult life, money isn't what I need to have a successful life," Doyeon interrupted again. "Doing what I want to do is what being successful really means."
Her mother abruptly stood up from her seat, her chair was knocked back. She was angry at her daughter in front of her. "What do you mean money doesn't give you a successful life? Do you notice that you're in this house is because of money right?"
"That's just money. It's not what we earned anyway. We were just lucky," Doyeon muttered.
"Watch what you're saying, young lady."
Doyeon slipped into her jacket and stood up from her seat, "You should too. Don't say something that you don't mean. We both know that you're not going to accept the guy that I will bring back home someday," she said before walking away, leaving Kai and his mother alone with her mother.

"Every time I come here I get to see a live soap opera," Kai's mother commented as she dabbed her lips with a napkin, while Kai hurried away to follow Doyeon.

"We should get back before you get in trouble," Kai said, worried about Doyeon again.
Doyeon swung her legs as her swing swung back and forth, ignoring Kai's concern. "I don't care."
Kai sighed and sat on the swing next to Doyeon's, watching her. "You rebel. I don't get how you can be such an angel but then a rebel at the same time," Kai commented, chuckling to himself as he looked down at the snow covered earth beneath him.
"I don't get why you're caring so much on whether or not I'll get in trouble. You should already know that I do whatever I want in my family," Doyeon said as she continued to swing.
"I only care because I don't want you to get in trouble. You're already in enough trouble since you just ran away from dinner," Kai muttered.
"She will get over it soon. They don't even care if I get suspended at school."

Jongin only sighed in response as he watched his crush continue to swing on the swing set, going up higher and higher by the second. Their only light was a lamp post that stood a few yards away, but its light was too dim and it was a tad hard to see each other's face. The only bright thing that Kai saw was the snow falling from the night sky. The thing that he couldn't see was Doyeon's sad face that was covered by the darkness' shadows. Silence between the two grows again as the cold winter's wind brush against their exposed hands on the swing chains.

"Jongin..."
Kai looked up at Doyeon, who started to slow down her swing. "Yeah?"
"Has your parents talked about your relationships yet?" she suddenly asked.
The boy glanced sideways and smiled just a tad, "No. Even if they did, they would just let me be with whoever I want, and whenever I want."
A frown appears upon Doyeon's face. "I wish I was in your family. Then I wouldn't have to put up with all this crap..."
I wouldn't want you to be part of my family even if we were from the same family... Jongin just smiled as a response before exhaling deeply and stood up from the swing. He walked over to Doyeon's swing and stopped it from swinging back and forth by capturing and holding back the chains of her swing. "Let's get you home, okay?" he said with a sweet smile.

The two stared at the dark ceiling of Doyeon's bedroom, and both heaved out a heavy sigh. Jongin glanced over at his friend and smiled. "Sleep, okay? Tomorrow will be a new day and everything will be set aside. Don't even think about what happened earlier."
"You're staying over tonight right?" Doyeon asked as she rolled onto her side. Kai nodded as he watched her. "Get on the ground then." A smile flashed across Kai's face as he got out of Doyeon's bed and onto the ground where blankets were waiting for him.

The two settled into their beds for a while as silence surrounded them for the hundredth time that day. Just as Jongin was finally starting to go into a deep slumber, Doyeon spoke again, "Jongin... May I ask you something?" The boy answered with a hum from the ground beside her bed. "Why do you like me?"

Jongin's eyes fluttered open after hearing the question. A small smile automatically appeared on his face, too bad she couldn't see it. "Because...

I just do...

And you will understand later."
