Disappointment
BittersweetMiyoung took small and weak steps into the mansion. It wa a weird feeling to be at a place so familiar yet unfamiliar at once. She had spent the majority of her childhood here, but her memories consisted of blurry images of her bedroom that was too big for a little child, of the garden she was never allowed to play in, and of the door to the office of her father that she barely dared to open. And not to forget the very vague memory of her mother before the said one got divorced from her father. Vague memories only consisting of yelling and nagging and chiding. At times hitting because her mother had never been one with a lot patience.
It was a huge mansion, she was reminded only now again. The few days here when she had been euphoric to live in Korea with Sehun by her side had affected her perception of everything. But now that the happy and nice bubble she'd been living in for the past two months was popped, her view was very clear again.
And she could see that this mansion was too big. Too lonely.
Sure, there were some maids here and there. But maids are more like furniture than people in a mansion like this. They are here to clean, serve food, and to do anything the people residing here were too lazy to do. Besides, it's not as f they wanted to be here; they were paid after all.
"Your father wishes to speak to you," a maid informed her, pulling the girl out of her thoughts.
Miyoung looked up surprised. He was at home? Bwfore she had left for the trip, he had gone on a short trip to Japan, as far as she knew at least.
Feeling uncomfortable thinking about confronting her father, she mumbled, "Okay."
After the first knock her father already answered, and Miyoung unwillingly entered. Honestly, she didn't feel like listening to a lecture after what had happened with Sehun. she'd probably be unable to keep shut and end up arguing with her father even though an argument with him was one of her biggest fears. Because no matter what he'd always win. Even if to her he seemed to be wrong at first, he'd be right at the end.
"I heard you left the trip earlier than expected," her father began, and at his tone Miyoung already wanted to turn around and leave.
"Yes."
"Didn't I tell you to stay home. You've always been too weak for trips like that. I told you that, but you insisted your health was better. At this age you should know yourself better."
Miyoung bit on her tongue to keep shut. Indeed, it had taken a little argument with her father to go on the trip. But she hadn't lied, she had felt fit for the trip.
"You know that I don't want your frail health to be public. It is a shame that my only daughter is so weak."
She bit harder. Honestly, she just wanted to yell at him, but from years of experience she knew better.
"All this after your medicore results in Germany. You can never do better than this, can you?"
Miyoung took a deep breath when he mentioned the results of the special exam she and Sehun had taken at the end of the trip. It hadn't turned out extremely well for Miyoung because she had often almost collapsed into bed to sleep instead of studying more. But the exam had only been to show them what they had learned, nothing important, so she'd just told herself to get over the medicore results. She knew she could do better if she had studied more and slept less.
Miyoung swallowed the anger and tried to say calmly, “The results... I was really tired most of the time. I did try.”
Her father put her off with a wave of his hand. "Doesn’t matter. It’s your responsibility to take care of your health. If you continue to be like this, you'll only bring shame to this family."
Her patience ripped.
"Continue to be like what? I'm trying my best not to bring shame to this family. Every single day I am trying. You simply can't see it, you old blind old man!" she angrily retorted, immediatel afterward wishing she’d had left out the blind old man part.
