Chapter 4

Best Friends's Fantasy

Tao pouted as he watched his gege packing the remainder of his things. Apparently Donghae had decided to move out and bunk with Chen. When he had asked him about the sudden move, Donghae had told him it was for personal reasons. At first Tao thought that Donghae didn’t like him anymore. It wasn’t until Donghae had told him about his suspicion of Xuimin and Chen. Tao had to admit that he was also curious of the two. They have been rather close to each other lately. Of course the little kung fu panda didn’t want to believe that his gege’s boyfriend was cheating on him with one of his friends. Of course the move had brought a lot of changes. While Chanyeol had moved in with Baekhyun since he was originally Chen’s roommate, Baekhyun’s roommate Kyungsoo had moved in with Suho. Apparently Xuimin, Suho’s original roommate, was getting tired of Tia sneaking into their dorm to spend ‘quality time’ with Suho that he moved out leaving him with Eunhyuk. Eunhyuk was one of Donghae’s many friends.

“Donghae-hyung~, do you really have to move out?” Tao asked in Korean. His voice was full of aegyo. Lately he has been speaking in Korean instead of Chinese with Donghae. If he was going to stay in Korea, he should at least speak in more often.

“Tao, I have to. You know why.” Donghae said as he approached the mountain of clothes he had. Tao rolled his eyes. He really didn’t like Donghae’s little idea. Xuimin and Chen could just be close friends. Accusing Xuimin of cheating when it could not be true would just ruin his relationship. Tao also didn’t like the idea of living without his gege. Donghae was personally tutoring him. For all he knows his new roommate may only know Korean and Tao’s Korean is limited. He was very lucky to have Donghae as a roommate since he knew a good amount of Chinese though it was also limited.

“Aish, fine but you owe me a new Gucci bag. Who knows, my roommate may be some kind of psychopath! If I’m going to die at least get me a new Gucci bag.” Tao seriously said. Donghae raised a brow before throwing one of his dirty shirts at Tao, hitting him right in the face.

“Ask your boyfriend. And Tao, quit being so dramatic! It’s not like we’re never going to see each other again! We’re still going to hang out.” Donghae pointed out. Tao scowled as he tossed his gege’s shirt on the floor. Even if they were still going to see each other, he was still going to miss sharing room with his gege.

“Fine…Just promise me you’ll stop by here often!” Donghae chuckled at the request. He also didn’t want to move out. Tao was like a younger brother he had to look after, but the whole Xuimin and Chen thing was making him really uneasy. His boyfriend was spending less time with him and more time with Chen. Curiosity and fear was slowly eating him up. He was also curious and obviously scared that his suspicions being true. He couldn’t stop thinking that maybe he didn’t please his boyfriend enough that he was having an affair. Donghae had approached Chanyeol and asked him if he could move in with Chen, telling him of his suspicions. Of course it took some begging since Chanyeol didn’t want to believe that his friend was cheating on him. Donghae quickly pushed the thoughts out of his head before going to his dongsaeng and wrapping his pinky around the other’s pinky and pressing his thumb against the others.

“Alright, alright I promise I’ll stop by here to hang out with you and protect you from your psychopath roommate.” Donghae promised. The two teenage boys laughed at the last part before continuing what they were doing.

Three Days Later

Kris entered the dorm facility he would be staying at. While he wore his usual poker face, Kris was rather curious. The thought of Zitao possibly attending this school never failed to appear in his mind. If it were true, Kris wouldn’t know how to react. While he still loved his panda, he was obviously angry. For the last four months he spent it depressed and angry. He was heartbroken when Zitao left but also angry on how Zitao acted when they last met, as if their relationship meant nothing. If he were to find Zitao here, Kris wasn’t sure how he was going to approach him. Was he going to run to him and hug him, telling him how much he missed him and how much he loves him or was he going to go confront him for how he acted when he said his last goodbye? Kris was confused and frustrated. Kris made his way to the elevator near the front desk. He entered, lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice the younger male with rainbow hair running towards the closing elevator door. Just as it was about to close, the boy placed his hand between the gap forcing the door to open right up. Kris hid his surprise as the boy quickly entered, panting as if he had ran a marathon. Kris felt the guy eying him. Before he could yell at the guy for staring at him weirdly, the rainbow haired boy spoke.

“Um, excuse me but are you the new transfer student?” Kris kept his poker face.

“Um, I am.” Kris simply replied. Luckily he was fluent in Korean. Then immediately Zitao appeared in his head. His panda wasn’t that well in Korean. How did he communicate with others? Did others taunt him like they usually did when a non-Korean speaking student transfer to their school? How did he understand his classes? Did anyone help him? Kris pushed the thoughts away. Soon enough the two bows heard a ding and the doors opened. The two boys walked awkwardly down the hall.

‘Maybe he lives nearby.’ Kris thought. Kris then noticed his shoelace untied. He bent down to tie them. Just as he stood up, he noticed someone. He saw him. Kris stood frozen. Zitao didn’t seem to notice him at all. Before Kris could react, the guy from earlier had peck Zitao, his Zitao right on the lips before grabbing the panda’s hand.

“C’mon baby, we don’t want to keep the others waiting.” The rainbow haired guy said before leading the panda away from Kris’ sight. Kris stood there. He didn’t bother to hide the shock and hurt.

‘T-That couldn’t be him. Zitao has black hair, not red… God, please let it not be him.’ Kris tightly shut his eyes, refusing to cry. He was hoping that it wasn’t his panda. No it couldn’t be... Could it? Kris had to restrain himself from chasing after them. It could just be someone who just happened to look like Zitao. Kris refused to believe that it was Zitao. Kris refused to believe that his ex-lover had moved on. It just couldn’t be him. How could he easily move on from their long relationship? How could he move on from those amazing moments the two spent? Kris let out a shaky breath. That wasn’t Zitao. It just couldn’t have been.

Kris continued to walk, observing the area. He then found his room. Just as he set his bag down and dug through his pocket for the keys he got from the school official that had picked him up and gave him a quick tour, he felt a hand grab his shoulder and roughly forcing him to turn around.

“Yah! There you are you little stealing freak!” a shorter blonde haired boy shouted. Kris was surprised at the sudden action before putting on his poker face.

“What the hell are you talking about?” Kris asked coldly. He really wasn’t in the mood for this.

“Are you ing kidding me? You were the guy who stole my wallet at the café! Don’t deny it! And now you’re trying to break into my friend’s room? You really like stealing don’t you?!” The blonde yelled. Kris’ left brow twitched slightly in annoyance.

“Look blondie, I wasn’t in no damn café, and if hadn’t been informed by your little stupid friend, this is also my damn ing room. Now next time someone steals your damn wallet, make sure you chase after the right person before accusing someone else of stealing unless you really want to die right here right now. Now if you excuse me, I’m jetlagged and want to rest in my room.” Kris said extremely coldly causing the short blonde to shutter in fear.

“O-Oh, I’m so sorry. I-I didn’t mean to yell at you! It’s just you looked like the guy who…well um stole my wallet.” The shorter blonde quickly apologized followed by many bows, “I’m so sorry.”

Kris sighed. As much as he wanted to strangle the shorter boy, he still couldn’t help but feel guilty for scaring the crap out of the guy. After spending a lot of time with Zitao, he had learned to be a little nicer to people. Hell if he were like himself before meeting Zitao the blonde would have been found extremely wounded in a trash bin.

“Whatever, just try to make sure you chase after the right person next time.” Kris said. He was about to look for his keys again until the blonde tapped his shoulder. Kris turned to him, raising a brow.

“A-Ah, you said you would be staying here?” the blonde asked receiving a nod from Kris, “Um…my friend also lives here… I’m Lu Han. My friend, his name is Huang Zitao. He’s dating my roommate…and um best friend Oh Sehun. So you may see Sehun around here a lot or Tao would most likely be in our dorm.”

Kris widen his eyes at the new information. That red head… it was Zitao. Kris felt his heart clench. First Zitao leaves him without a proper goodbye and now he had moved on easily? Kris was fuming now. Then it hit him. Zitao is his roommate.

“U-Um, I’m Wu Yi Fan but just call me Kris… You just said that your friend, my roommate…his name is Huang Zitao?” Kris asked. Luhan nodded. Kris then let out a sigh. Well, looks like he found Zitao. Luhan noticed the look on Kris’ face.

“Um… are you okay Kris-ssi?” Luhan asked. He was curious why Kris wore a look of hurt and anger when he mentioned Tao’s name.

“Oh, it’s just that I kinda know Zitao…” Kris responded. He looked at the floor, trying to control all the emotions he was feeling.

“Wait you know Tao? Were you a friend from China?” Luhan asked curiously.

“Friend…um not necessarily a friend… He was my boyfriend.” Luhan immediately regretted telling Kris about Sehun. But then again… he wondered… Ever since his promise to himself from four months before, he still couldn’t get over Sehun. Not at all. Lately he has also been having some sort of hatred towards Tao. Now here was Kris, Tao’s ex-boyfriend. Many thoughts ran through his head. What if Kris and Tao met each other face to face, well obviously they had to, they were roommates for crying out loud. Luhan then noticed a little chain on one of Kris’ bags, the same one Tao has on his bag. Couple chains. Could Kris still have feelings for Tao?

“Um, Kris, you don’t mind having a little talk in your room?” Luhan asked. Kris sighed. He hesitantly took out his keys and opened the door. Luhan helped him take his bags inside. Kris observed the room. He noticed one of the beds emptied and another filled with random things from stuffed animals to clothes. Apparently Zitao forgot he was having company. Kris then noticed a picture on the bedside table. It was a picture of Zitao and the boy from earlier. Sehun, as he now knew what his name was, was smiling as he backed hugged Zitao who was blushing and smiling at the camera. Kris quickly looked away, not wanting to look at the picture anymore. He then spotted a familiar bag on the bed. It was the one he got Zitao. He also noticed the couple chain still there. That triggered it. Kris stomped towards the bag, gripping it tightly in his hands. He then looked at the picture of the happy couple. Kris angrily threw the bag back on the bed. How could Tao still have the bag and couple chain while being in another relationship?

“Kris, are you okay?” Luhan asked nervously. He was rather scared of the angry foreigner. He was also feeling really bad for the guy. Luhan set the bags by the empty bed. “You know, I’m not fond of the relationship either.”

Kris looked at the blonde. He could care less if Luhan approved of the couple or not.

“Kris, from what I’m seeing now, Tao might not be over you. And well, you’re not over him. While you like Tao, I like Sehun. Yeah I like my best friend yet I helped him get together with Tao. I regret it to this day. I know we just met and well you don’t even trust me, I want to help you. I want to help you get Tao back.” Luhan said as he approached Kris, “Look, I know it sounds incredibly stupid, but I just feel like Sehun would only just get hurt if Tao finds out you’re here and happens to have feelings for you. While you probably hate Sehun right now, please don’t hurt him. It’s not like he intentionally stole Tao from you. J-just listen to me. M-Maybe we could help each other.”

Kris tried to process what was happening. Luhan was right, it was incredibly stupid. Stupid enough to make sense. Then again, he just met Luhan. He can’t possibly trust him! He could be lying about Zitao still liking him. Maybe Zitao was serious about his new relationship and totally forgot about him. Then again his whole purpose of coming to South Korea would just be pointless. Kris eyed the short blonde. Luhan looked at him with the look of desperation.

“Luhan, you want to go get lunch?” Luhan grinned as the taller guy awkwardly scratched the back of his head. Looks like he might have a chance with Sehun.

Chen was freaking out. Donghae was sitting on what was Chanyeol’s bed eying him. For the past four days that was what Donghae did. Chen was utterly confused when Chanyeol said he would be moving in with Baekhyun and that Donghae would be his new roommate. He also panicked. He had been secretly dating Xuimin for the past four months. One minute they were telling each other corny jokes and the next Chen was on top of Xuimin kissing him passionately. Soon enough each time they saw each other alone the same continued. They went on secret dates. Chen has always like Xuimin. But of course he couldn’t approach him. Xuimin was dating Donghae and his cousin Suho, one of Chen’s closest friends, didn’t like the idea of them together. Now here was Donghae sharing room with him. He knew Donghae was probably sharing room with him now to make sure if his suspicions of the two dating were wrong. Chen would have done the same if it were him. While he secretly dates the one he loves, he still feels guilty. Chen and Donghae were good friends mainly because they met through Tao. Now with Chen dating Donghae’s boyfriend, he knew their friendship would be an awkward one. Meanwhile Xuimin had also moved out of his dorm. From what his baozi told him, Tia has been sneaking into their room a lot to see Suho. It was ticking him off that he moved in with one of the older students Eunhyuk. Eunhyuk was in Chen’s Chemistry class. Eunhyuk’s room was five doors down from his. In other words, Xuimin was pretty close to them. Hopefully Chen could sneak off to see Xuimin without being caught by his new roommate.

“Jongdae, I’m going to get some lunch. Would you like something to eat?” Donghae asked politely. Chen nervously nodded. Well, looks like his funeral would be sooner than he thought.

“Yah! Chanyeol! Could you please turn the music down? I’m trying to study!” Baekhyun yelled over the loud music before secretly smiling. He was overjoyed when he found out Chanyeol was moving in with him yet rather upset his original roommate, Kyungsoo or D.O as he called him moved out. How he was going to miss those random singing sessions the two shared.

“There, I turned it down. But why do you have to study? The English test isn’t until next week!” Chanyeol whined. He hates it when his best buddy spent most of his time studying than hanging out with him. He was hoping to have much more time with Baekhyun since they were now roommates.

“I know the test is next week, but I want to get a good score on it. You should be studying too you know.” Baekhyun scolded. He had to control himself from squealing like a fan girl when Chanyeol began to pout. Gosh if only he were much more confident in himself then he would confess to his derpy best friend and crush.

“Fine, but can we study together? You’re pretty good in English!” Chanyeol said as he dug through his school bag for his English textbook he walked over to Baekhyun’s bed and sat right next to him and opened the book to a random page.

“Sure, just no fooling around.” Baekhyun warned though inside he was fan girling right now.

Kai was sneaking glances at Suho’s new roommate. He decided to pay his good old grandpa a visit and only happened to meet the quiet amazing chef from his Home Economics class. He would be lying if he said he didn’t feel some sort of attraction towards Kyungsoo. While the cute boy sat on his bed typing his History paper, Kai sat on Suho’s bed watching him. Suho wasn’t present and Kyungsoo shyly suggested that he waited for his hyung.

‘For whatever reason that you’re not here Joonmyun, thank you!’ Kai happily thanked Suho in his mind as he continued to watch the boy not too far from him. He couldn’t help but find his concentrated look absolutely adorable. While Kai found enjoyment by hooking up with some of his fellow peers, he couldn’t bring himself to do the same with Kyungsoo. Something about him was different that it kept Kai from being his usual flirty self. He didn’t want to hurt Kyungsoo.

“D.O, I’m back~” Kai heard the familiar voice of Suho snapping him out of his daze. He looked over to see his hyung entering the room with Tia. “Oh, Jongin you’re here!”

“Hey there Jongin.” Tia greeted. Kai greeted her with his usual pick-up line then was met by a glare from Suho. Kyungsoo awkwardly sat on his bed.

“D.O, this is Tia my girlfriend.” Suho proudly said. Kyungsoo sent Tia a polite smile.

“It’s nice to meet you Tia. Joonmyun-hyung has said many good things about you. I’m Do Kyungsoo but you can call me D.O” Kai blushed. He never heard Kyungsoo utter a word. His voice sent shivers down his spine. Only if he could hear that voice scream his name in bed…

“Aw, Suho~ It’s a pleasure to meet you Kyungie!” Tia cheekily said. Kyungsoo blushed at the new nickname.

“Jongin, what brings you here?” Suho asked. Kai grinned as he scratched the back of his head.

“What? Can’t a guy pay his grandpa a visit?” Kai teasingly asked. Suho sent him a slight glare. “Okay, can I borrow your History notes? I left my binder in my locker.”

Suho rolled his eyes before going over to his school bag and handing Kai the notes. Kai bid everyone a farewell before taking his leave. Maybe now Kai can get closer with Kyungsoo.

Lay was sprawled on his bed obviously bored. Kai had gone to get the History notes from Suho since the two players forgot theirs in their lockers. As much as he wanted to go, Lay didn’t want to come across Tia. It’s not that he hated her. Heavens no! She was a very likeable person and the two were really good friends, best friends actually. It was just that he was rather jealous of her. Yup, Zhang Yixing jealous of a girl. No offense to girls. Why was he jealous? Well she is dating the love of his life. That’s right. Lay is in love than none other than Kim Joonmyun. It took him a while to finally notice. When he confessed, Suho rejected him and told him he was straight. Since then Lay became a player in hopes to make Suho jealous. It only backfired on him when Suho finally got a girlfriend. Lay wanted to hate Tia, but he just couldn’t. The two became really close friends. Out of all of the other guys, Tia got along with Lay the most. They’ve became besties after they were stuck in Suho’s room. Suho had to go to make up his finals and it was pretty late. Lay was going to visit him and so did Tia. Of course Tia couldn’t sneak back out since she wasn’t even supposed to be there. While Tia hid in Suho’s room for a bit Lay was also stuck. It was past curfew and if he were caught sneaking to his room he would surely get a week of detention. Xuimin had snuck over to Donghae’s to spend the night. So the two had spent a good hour alone chatting until Suho came. Lay stayed in Xuimin’s bed, rather jealous of Tia. Since then he considered her his bestie and rival.

“Lay, I got the notes!” Kai announced as he entered the room. Lay quickly sat up. The two quickly began to copy the notes down before the clock struck ten. They could not be caught awake after ten. Ah, this is what happens when you spend locker time making out with student teachers.
