Chapter 2
Only One Day
He never noticed her around throughout the one month he had been in office,
until one day when he fell asleep and woke up at night.
She was seated alone at her desk still working away.
“Why are you still here at this hour?”
She was taken aback when she heard his voice, but smiled upon seeing him.
“Finishing up some stuff. It’s rare to see you here this late...”
“I...was going through some files. Yah... what do you mean by that?”
“Nothing, good to see you working hard, you’re the president’s son after all”
The real reason in fact was that he had fallen asleep after playing some video games in
his office, and it seems that she saw right through him and obviously didn’t buy his excuse.
“Are you done? You haven’t had your dinner had you?”
“What?”
“I’m starving. Let’s have dinner”
He shut her files and dragged her out of her seat.
“Yah what are you doing? I still have a bit to finish off...”
“Just continue working on them tomorrow.
It’s not as if they’re going to give you some best employee award or something for working this late”
They got along pretty well and he enjoyed her company somehow, and
thus began staying behind whenever he knew she was working late.
On days when he had to leave early, he got someone to deliver her meals on his
behalf anonymously as she always forgot her dinner whenever she gets busy.
Until one day when he left his office and found her lying unconscious next to her desk.
A check-up in the hospital found that she was suffering
from anemia due to poor nutrition and exhaustion.
And the reason for her to be working so hard and skipping meals was
probably due to the overdue medical bills incurred for her mum’s treatment,
which he came to know about when he was paying for her medicine.
He settled it on the account that it remained anonymous,
knowing that she would definitely refuse his help.
“What do you think you are doing Kim Hyung Jun?”
“Reducing your workload? I hate to see you being tied down by work”
She was appalled to return to the office and find herself being assigned as his personal assistant.
He had made the request so as to relieve her from the workload,
and partly, to keep her by his side.
“Thanks, but I can’t imagine seeing you and only you throughout most of my day in the office”
“Yah I’m doing this for... never mind... Do you really hate me that much?”
“Anni... it’s just that I don’t want to feel indebted to anyone”
“Why would you be? You’d still be working anyway, just that
it’ll be a different job scope. Let’s get going, we have work to do”
