(Donghae POV)

“Oppa, you look great. Stop worrying” Sunny said, rolling her eyes as she lounged on my bed.

“This is my first date Sunny. Like, my first real date… How can I not worry?” I said, pulling off my shirt and trying on another.

I was so nervous about this date. I know it was stupid because it was just Hyukkie and we’d already kissed and whatever, but this was different… it was all starting to become so real and it was a little nerve wrecking in all honesty.

“Because, it’s you and Hyukjae Oppa. You guys are with each other all the time. It’ll be like every other time you’ve hung out” Sunny said as she cuddled my Nemo plushie.

“It’s not though. This is a real date and I want it to be perfect” I said, looking in the mirror again and shaking my head before pulling of my shirt and throwing it at Sunny – which earned me a squeal and a “Don’t do that!” from her – before trying on my next one.

She glared at me before throwing my shirt on the other side of the bed. “Anyway, you never did tell me how all of this came about”

“Yes I did. I told you he confessed and asked me on a date because I said I didn’t want to just jump into things” I sighed, taking a seat beside her.

She pulled out her make-up bag and pulled out a moisturiser and cotton pad before massaging it into my face.

“Yeah, you told me that. But I know something else happened between you guys. You never tell me anything” she sighed, as she rubbed the cotton pad softly over my cheek in circles.

“We’ve kissed a few time” I sighed in defeat, “But that’s another reason why I’m nervous. He and I seemed to skip the whole dating and getting nervous part… So what is there left to really experience?”

“There’s a lot of things” she said softly, putting random things on my face, though I trusted her enough not to ask, “Just because you skipped something doesn’t mean you can’t rewind and do it now. He’s willing to do it and try, surely that means something?”

I sighed. She was right, and I knew she was. But I still couldn’t help but feel a little panicky.

“Sunny… He doesn’t know me though. And I’m scared that if he does get to know me, then he’ll leave” I whispered

“What doesn’t he know Hae?” she asked, her voice as quiet as mine as she begins to re-button my shirt, it turns out that I was worrying so much that I did the buttons up wrong.

“Promise you’ll keep it a secret?”

“I promise”

“W-When my Appa died… My Umma went through a really bad stage. She closed herself off and I had to take over everything and look after her. It was all a lot to deal with, especially right after losing my Appa… And so I found new ways of coping…

 “I went through a bad stage of harming myself. I’d constantly pinch my arms until they were red and throbbing, just to keep calm and I’d cut… on the top of my legs so that nobody would see. Then I fell in with some bad people and I began to get in trouble because of it and I’d end up in fights all the time and get hurt a lot. All of my old friends were slowly leaving me and eventually I had nobody. I was alone all the time and I wouldn’t talk to anyone. There was one time that I went to a bridge and jumped into the water… My friend found me unconscious on the river bank and told my Umma I would be staying with him for a few days whilst I got better…

 “And I prayed that my Umma wouldn’t notice, but I knew she did. But she was too sad to be able to help me. I mean, how could she when she couldn’t even help herself?” I sighed and opened my eyes to look at her. “When people ask me why we moved here… I tell them, because my Umma couldn’t bear to stay there with the sadness of my Appa’s presence… The truth is, it was that but on top of that she just wanted me to get out of trouble. I caused her so much pain and I can’t live with that… I’m scared that I’ll fall back into old habits because I didn’t wean off of it all, I quit cold turkey when I moved here and I can feel the urge all the time.

 “So I know that if he ever finds out what a pathetic person I am, then he’ll leave me… I always push people away and I’m scared I’ll lose him too”

I watched her as she stood up from my bed, tears slowly making their way down her face. She looked scared and fragile and like she wanted nothing more than to run, and I didn’t blame her for that… but then she took my hand and pulled me to my feet before pulling me into a warm hug.

“Oppa, don’t be scared. Please, never be scared or worried about being sad. You had to deal with a lot and the fact that you’re still able to smile, just shows me how strong you are. Hyukjae… I can tell that he really does love you, you know. Maybe it isn’t the kind of love you want just yet, but I know it will grow in to that soon enough. He’d be crazy to ever leave you. You seem to forget that he isn’t just someone you’re about to date, he’s also your best friend. He’ll understand, Oppa. You just need to talk to him, okay?” she said in a hushed voice, my hair in a calming manner as she did.

“But… But what if…”

“No, don’t think like that. You don’t have to tell him yet, wait until you’re ready. But I promise you, that he won’t leave you” she said, pulling back to look me in the eye. “Now, come on, we need to get you ready. He’ll be here in half an hour”

I smiled as she fixed my face again and helped me to look my best. She even did my hair~

When she was finished I looked in the mirror and honestly, I couldn’t believe it was me! I looked…. y?!

“So… what do you think?” Sunny asked as I stared at my reflection

“Sunny… you’re a miracle worker!” I beamed and pulled her into a tight hug, picking her up and spinning her around.

“Yah! Put me down” she giggled and I did as she said, “Oppa, you’ve always looked handsome, I just… made you stand out a little more”

I grinned and showered her with a million thank-you’s.

“Alright, well he’ll be here in like five minutes, so I better go! Have fun on your date” she smiled before giving me a quick peck on the cheek and leaving.

It was a few minutes later when I heard my doorbell and dashed down to answer it. When I did I saw Hyukkie standing there, looking as stunning as ever with a lovely bouquet of flowers in his hand.

“For you~” he smiled his gummy smile and handed them to me.

“They’re lovely. Thank you. Come in whilst I find a vase to put them in” I smiled and opened the door a little wider for him. He waited in the hall whilst I went and put the flowers in some water before joining him again.

“Ready?”

“Yup” I beamed and let him lead the way out of the house.

(Sungmin POV)

“Shh… there they are. What movie are they seeing?” I whispered as Kyu and I followed our subjects.

“That one” he said, pointing to one of the movies that was being advertised on the board.

“Aright, go buy the tickets and I’ll wait by the popcorn” I said, running away before he could protest.

We’d be tailing them for a good twenty minutes. We’d hid in the bushes outside of Donghae’s house and then followed them discreetly to here – the cinema – where we are putting our amazing spy skills into action.

“Here, let’s go” Kyu said as he walked up to me, holding two tickets.

We made our way into the right screen, looking around to try and spot the two subjects – yeah I should stop calling them subjects, but I’m in spy mode! – careful not to be spotted.

“There they are” I whispered to Kyu, as I pointed off to the right, where we could see Hyukjae sat up, his arm around Hae, who was leaning on his shoulder. And the movie hadn’t even started yet! Boy, they move fast…

Kyu nodded, taking my hand before leading me to a seat that was a few rows back from them, giving us a good view.

They looked pretty adorable to be fair, Hyukjae was whispering things to Hae, and the latter would giggle and hit Hyuk’s chest playfully.

I turned to my side to see Kyu was missing. Where the hell did he go?! I looked around frantically in search of my always sarcastic boyfriend. A few minutes later, I notice him coming through the doors, his hands full with popcorn and candy –seriously? – a smirk plastered on his face as he looked up at me.

He took his seat beside me, turning to look at me as I gave him my best what-the-hell face.

He shrugged and took a handful of popcorn to his mouth. “I needed a snack” he said after swallowing his food.

“Why didn’t you get something before we came in?” I narrowed my eyes

“Because it was funny to see you looking all panicked” he chuckled before smirking at me again.

“You’re an ” I muttered, “Anyway, keep an eye on them. The movie’s starting”

I wasn’t really paying attention to the on goings of the characters in the movie, I was more interested in the cute little antics of my friends. About five minutes into the movie, Donghae looked to his side and waited to make sure Hyukjae wasn’t looking at him before pecking his cheek cutely. Even back here, and even in the dark, I could see how flustered he looked after doing so. It made me chuckle, I mean, these two… You’d think they’d be used to the little pecks by now, but nope.

Hyuk turned to Hae, a huge smile on his face, and wrapped his arm around the latter’s shoulder more tightly, pulling Hae closer to him, letting the little fishy snuggle up against him. I also noticed how Hyuk was feeding him popcorn and lifting the cup for him to sip out of the straw. It was so cute, but the worry in my stomach just wouldn’t cease.

From next to me, I felt Kyuhyun slip his arm around my shoulder and I couldn’t help but smile. I turned to look up at his face, only to find him already looking at me, a small smile playing on his lips. Leaning forward, I went to press my lips against his, only to get interrupted;

“Hey guys! What are you doing here?” Changmin asked as he and his buddy Minho sat down next to Kyuhyun.

“Watching a movie, what does it look like?” I snapped in a whisper. Okay, so maybe I wasn’t over the whole jealousy thing just yet.

“Woah, calm down hyung… I was just asking” Changmin rolled his eyes before sticking his hand into Kyuhyun’s popcorn and stealing some.

“We’re actually spying on Donghae and Hyuk” Kyuhyun informed the two, getting a knowing nod in return.

“Didn’t look like that when we walked in” Minho smirked, earning a chuckle from Changmin.

“Whatever, why are you two here anyway?” Kyuhyun said, thankfully changing the subject.

“We were meant to be hanging out with some other friends, including Yunho hyung and Jae hyung, but there was a…. change of plans, so we decided to catch a movie” Changmin said.

A chorus of shushes came from behind us, letting Changmin know that he was talking too loudly. I swear if he didn’t shut up, Donghae and Hyuk would bloody catch us soon enough.

(Donghae POV)

I looked over my shoulder to see who was making all the noise, and I had to say I wasn’t the least bit surprised when I saw Changmin and Minho next to Kyu and Sungmin – the last two thought that by ducking down at the last minute I wouldn’t notice them… wow, and I thought I was stupid – I knew they’d do something like this. I kind of realised when Sungmin said he was going to ask Hyukkie where he was taking me and at what time… I mean, there’s the curious friend and then there’s Sungmin, who will go to all lengths to make sure everything goes swimmingly.

Once the movie was over, Hyuk took me to a cute little restaurant nearby. It was nice, it wasn’t too big nor too small and it wasn’t overly crowded, the outside kind of reminded me of one of those old English thatch roof houses. When we went in, I found that it was a place that served western food , and I couldn’t help but smile. It had been a while since I’d eaten anything that wasn’t Korean cuisine. A waitress showed us to our table, which happened to be a nice little booth at the back, away from the main crowd and more private. She handed us our menus and took our drink orders before sauntering off to get them for us, leaving us with some time to choose what we wanted to eat.

“What are you ordering?” Hyukkie asked as he closed his menu and placed it down on the table…

“Aish, molla… There’s so much to choose from” I answered, my eyes going over the foreign words again and again.

In the end the waitress helped us out by telling us what was best and we just decided to go with that, we each got a different thing though, so that we could share.

I didn’t fail to notice though, that just a few tables away from us, the four from the cinema were ‘discreetly’ sitting.

“You know” I said, as the food arrived, “They’ve been following us all along”

“I know, they think we’re blind. Oh, this is good. Here try some” he said, lifting his fork with some food on to my mouth, feeding me. And honestly, it was really tasty.

“Oh that is good! Here try some of mine” I smiled, mimicking his actions, to let him try some of what I’d ordered too.

“We should come here again sometime” he smiled. Taking a sip of his strawberry milk.

I smiled at him and nodded in response, as my mouth was full of food. And let’s face it, nobody wants to look at a mouth full of chewed up food… It’s nasty! (oh, you so nasty –EYK).

Once we’d finished in the restaurant we quickly paid and then left. We ran around the corner and waited until we saw Kyuhyun and Sungmin pass us then doubled back the other direction. We kept running until we were sure that we’d lost them and then stopped to catch our breaths, because we’d ran for quite a while. It’s harder than it looks to lose the two self-proclaimed spies.

“W-Where are w-we?” I asked, panting hard as I tried to collect myself from the long run.

“At t-the aquarium. I thought y-you’d like to go h-here” Hyukkie said, panting just as hard as me.

“OMG! I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO AN AQUARIUM!!” I squeal like a fangirl on crack. It was as though my energy just returned to me out of the blue, I began jumping around like a mad man as I held onto Hyukkie’s shoulders.

Once he managed to calm me down, he paid the fee and led me into one of the tunnels so that we were surrounded by the amazing creatures the water held.

I found myself in awe at the sight. Everything about the place was beautiful. I especially liked how the water made the light in the tunnel look. It was so pretty, and what made it even better was that I could experience it with none other than Hyukjae.

Hyukkie chuckled as he took my hand in his, pulling me over to on side so that we could look at small school of fish that was swimming by.

“This is so cool” I said in an awed whisper.

“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself~” he grinned before turning me to face him. “You know, I’ve always fantasized about kissing the person I love in a beautiful place like this” he mused.

“Me too. This would be the perfect place for a first kiss. Don’t you think?” I smiled, shifting my gaze to look at the fish again.

“I don’t think you understand what I’m saying right now…” he sighed, lifting his finger to my chin, he turned my head back round to look at him again.

“I don’t?” I raised an eyebrow at him, asking him to explain.

He bit his lip nervously and sighed “You know what… it doesn’t matter. So, have you had fun today?” he asked.

“Yeah, I’ve really enjoyed it. Even with being spied on, ha” I giggled and wrapped my arms loosely around his neck.

He smiled warmly at me as he wrapped his arms around my waist and let his face nuzzle into my neck.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, concerned by his suddenly shy behaviour.

“Nothing, so long as I’m with you” he said, lifting his face to look at me again.

I smiled at him brightly, a sense of warmth running through me at his words. He always made me feel special, no matter what and I think that’s what I liked the most about just talking with him like this. Of course I always felt loved when my friends said kind words to me, but when Hyukjae said things, it was different, it was like butterflies had been let loose inside of me and were making me feel all kinds of weird, but they were all good. He could make my heart flutter like their wings with just a single word, something I’d never experienced before.

 “But there is something that I wanted to say… I don’t know how you’ll feel about it though” he whispered, looking right into my eyes.

“What is it?” I asked, my concern growing every second.

“Donghae-ah… the thing is… I… I think that I’m in love with you” he said in a voice that I could barely make out.

He thinks he l-loves me? Is this really happening?

“Don’t worry. I understand how… weird and sudden this is and I’m not expecting a big show about it, or even for you to feel the same. I just… thought you should know” he said, a sad smile on his face.

Even so, I couldn’t stop my lips from stretching into a grin as I pulled him closer. “You’re such a babo” I muttered before pressing my lips to his and fore filling the ‘fantasy’ he’d aforementioned.
