(Donghae POV)

Well, I had to admit, I wasn’t very happy about moving. It meant leaving behind all my old friends, leaving behind the life I had worked on for seventeen years.

I am currently a junior in high school. I had a pretty decent life, nothing too special. But I enjoyed what I had here. I was really sad that I would have to leave, but I guess I could still call my old friends and so on.

I was standing in my small room, today was my first day at my new school. Unfortunately there was a uniform. Black trousers, a white button up shirt and a grey jumper with the school logo on it. Yeah, it looked dull and horrible, but there was nothing I could do about it.

I looked myself over in the mirror of my half unpacked room. Well, this was about as good as it was going to get.

“Donghae, come on, we have to leave or you’ll be late” my Umma called from downstairs. I sighed and threw my backpack over my shoulder and made my way down.

“Umma, I can just walk, you know” I smiled, not wanting to burden her.

“Don’t be silly. Aigoo, my son looks so cute!” she cooed, pinching my cheeks. “Now come on, shoes on and let’s go” she said, leading the way out of the house, through the maze of boxes we had yet to unpack.

I sighed and followed her out to the car. I’d never started a new school half way through a term before. I was nervous, I mean would people like me? Would I make any friends? Would I get bullied? I didn’t know.

We arrived faster than I expected, making me quite early but I didn’t mind. It meant I could go about what I had to do hassle free.

I looked around and followed the signs to the principal’s office. I knocked twice and waited.

“Come in” A deep voice beckoned. I did as I was instructed and entered the large office. “Ah, you must me Lee Donghae, come, come, have a seat my boy” he said, his voice slightly warmer than it had been before.

“Erm, h-hello sir.” I stuttered nervously.

“No need to be nervous, we’re all friendly here. So this…” he handed me a piece of paper “Is your schedule. It should be fairly similar to the one you had at your previous school. And here…” he handed me another piece of paper, “is a map of the school. It’s easy to follow, so you shouldn’t get too lost. But I will assign someone to show you around after you get settled. It will probably be after lunch. One moment let me see… Ah, Cho Kyuhyun, he is one of our school’s brightest, bit of a nuisance at times but all around a good lad, I will have someone inform him that he should show you around during afternoon classes. Is that alright?”

I nodded, not really sure what to say next.

“Would you like me to show you to your first class?” he asked

“Please, if it’s not any trouble” I smiled and he returned it right away. He stood up and gestured for me to follow him to a classroom not too far from where his office was located.

We entered the room, in which the teacher was midway through a sentence. She stopped and looked up at the principal. “Oh Mr.Park, what can I do for you?” she asked politely.

“I have your new student Mrs.Kim. I want you to have Kyuhyun show him around the school after lunch if it isn’t too much trouble.” He answered, gently pushing me into the room.

“Of course, I will see that is done.” The teacher smiled and with the Mr.Park left. “Come up here and introduce yourself then”

I walked up to the front of the classroom, and turned to face the people who would be my peers. Some of the girls were giggling and whispering to their friend. Some of the guys shot me a smile and a nod to show that they were friendly enough. My eyes however landed on a blonde boy sitting towards the back of the room, he just looked at me and scoffed, sending me daggers with his eyes. What had I done to him? I sighed before clearing my throat.

“Hello everyone. My name is Lee Donghae, I just moved here so I’m a bit nervous. Please take care of me” I bowed and turned back to the teacher.

“Alright, welcome to SM Donghae-ah. You can take a seat between Kyuhyun and Hyukjae, Kyuhyun please raise your hand so that Donghae knows where to sit” the teacher said.

Reluctantly, a tall, slim boy with brown hair raised his hand slightly. I smiled to the teacher and went to take my seat. The boy on my other side, Hyukjae I think his name was, is the blonde boy that was glaring at me earlier. Awesome. Now he is glaring at me again. I didn’t even do anything to him?! I don’t even know the guy.

“Hey” the boy known as Kyuhyun said, snapping me from my thoughts.

“Oh, erm, hi” I smiled and he rolled his eyes.

“You don’t need to be so nervous you know. I’m Cho Kyuhyun, but you can call me Kyuhyun. I’ll be the one showing you around later. And just before you get all comfortable, I’m only being nice right now because the teacher is watching”

“So you’re not nice then?” I asked, letting out a huff of air. What was with this school.

“Yah. I never said that! I mean that I don’t really know you well enough to be acting like friends yet is all.”

I was about to respond when the blonde spoke in a cold voice “Can you keep it down fish face, I’m trying to listen over here”

“Hey! What is your problem?!” I snapped, getting rather annoyed with this boy already, aish, I hadn’t even been there ten minutes and he was already annoying me!

“You are fish boy. So shut up!” he shot back.

“Oh okay, I won’t take that to heart, I mean it must be hard looking like that, you’re bound to be cranky” I smirked

“And what is that supposed to mean?” he glared.

“Nothing at all… Monkey boy” I smirked again, “Now if you don’t mind, I’m trying to listen” I said, using his own words against him. I pulled out y note book and a pen to take notes. I saw Kyuhyun smirk from out of the corner of my eye, whilst that monkey, Hyukjae just looked like he’d seen a ghost.

After a good five minutes, Hyukjae’s face hadn’t changed so I let out a short laugh, “You know, if you don’t shut your mouth, flies will get in there”

He reluctantly closed his mouth and turned back to face the front.

“Well, that’s the first time I’ve seen him speechless. I like you Lee Donghae” Kyuhyun chuckled.

“Just call me Donghae” I smiled widely, turning back to the front too. It seemed like I’d at least made one friend.

(Hyukjae POV)

It’s not every day that Mr.Park comes in. right away I saw the little guy behind him looking like a lost puppy. All the girls were beside themselves, giggling at how cute he was, I even heard a couple of the guys say he was pretty cute.

I mean sure, he was alright I guess, and by alright I mean seriously adorable. Wait, what am I even thinking. I sighed as I watched him walk to the front of the classroom. When he smiled, it was like I entered some other world where nothing made sense. His lips curled up to flash his pearly white teeth before he spoke. Lee Donghae, that was his name. East Sea. Ha, it kind of suited him.

He seemed like a nice guy, and for some unknown reason I couldn’t tear my eyes away from his face. That was until I heard Kyuhyun snicker from beside me.

“What?” I hissed.

“Nothing, just wondering how Jessica would feel about you ogling over the new kid” he smirked. What? Ogling? Over the new kid? He was kidding right?

“What are you talking about Cho?” I glared slightly towards to boy standing at the front.

“Ha, and here was me thinking you were straight. You look like you’re undressing him with your eyes.” He chuckled

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. Clearly you’re seeing what you want to see” I snapped.

Before I even knew what was happening, the new kid took a seat between me and Kyuhyun. They started talking about something. Now that I really listened to his voice, it was sweet. It matched his face, that for some reason made me think of fishes. Haha.

After a while I realised just how side tracked I was getting and decided to intervene. It was like my mouth was working without my brain realising.

Wait, did he just call me a monkey?! What the hell!! Well, this kid sure knows how to talk back. Huh, we’ll see how long that lasts. I really didn’t like this kid, he was making me think weird things. But still I couldn’t take my eyes away from his cute face. Aish.

“You know, if you don’t shut your mouth, flies will get in there” he said without looking at me.

I didn’t even know how to comprehend what had just happened. So I just turned to the front and began to think of a way to get back at the brat.

Before I knew it, it was lunch time. We packed away our things and I overheard Kyuhyun inviting Donghae to eat lunch with us. Ah, chincha?! Was he trying to piss me off? Because if he was it was working. It was bad enough that I had to sit near him in class, but now I had to be near him in my free time too?

I followed behind them as we made our way to the cafeteria.  About half way there, Sungmin joined me, putting a hand on my shoulder and smiling. I couldn’t help but smile back, he was my best friend after all, he always knew how to make things better.

“Hey Hyukkie~ what’s up? You seem annoyed?” he asked, not noticing Kyuhyun walking with Donghae just ahead of us.

“New kid” I sighed, “He had the nerve to talk back to me!”

“Omo, the one next to Kyuhyunnie? Aigoo, he is so cute!!” Sungmin cooed. “What’s wrong with him? Yah, Lee Hyukjae, are you being mean to the new guy?”

“What? Ani! It’s not like that. He’s just, urgh, forget it. Have you seen Jess anywhere?”

Sungmin frowned, “Ani.” He said before walking off to jump up on Kyuhyun’s back. Totally surprising the other. At that I saw him start to talk to Donghae, the latter laughing at something Sungmin had said.

Why did he have to look so cute when he laughed? Urgh! Where the hell is Jessica? I need to stop thinking about that stupid brat before he messes my head up.

I walked into the cafeteria and joined the guys at my usual table. Changmin was sitting talking to Kyuhyun, whilst Sungmin was talking to Donghae and introducing him to a few of the others, Jaejoong, Yunho, Henry, Ryeowook and Shindong.

I sighed and took the only seat that was left, that just so happened to be in-between Donghae and Shindong.

“I’ll go get the food today, Jae, come help me please” Yunho said, taking to his feet.

“Don’t forget my-”

I was cut off by Jaejoong, “Strawberry milk. We know Hyuk, we know” he rolled his eyes and followed after Yunho.

“…And then I called him a monkey because he was annoying me” I heard Donghae finish off.

“Ha, Sungminnie, you should have seen Hyuk’s face. It was so funny!” Kyuhyun laughed.

“Hyuk’s face always looks funny” Changmin countered.

“Yah!” I glared at them before turning to face Donghae, “Look fishy, just because you’re new here doesn’t mean you can do as you please, learn some respect!”

“What? You were the one that started being rude to me!” he shot back.

“Only because you were being loud when I was trying to listen!”

“Well, you could have just asked me to be quiet nicely! And besides, why were you glaring at me as soon as I stood at the front! You don’t even know me and you already have an opinion on me!” Donghae, yelled, tears starting to form in his eyes. , what do I do now?!

“Are you crying?” I scoffed

“I am not!” he yelled again.

“Stop being such a baby! Gees!” I rolled my eyes. Trying not to show how much I really didn’t want him to cry. I hated making people cry, it made me feel like crap, and here I was acting like it didn’t bother me. What was I doing? Why couldn’t I just be his friend?

“Yah! Lee Hyukjae, you apologise, right now!” I looked to see Sungmin looking right at me furiously.

“Why should I?”

“APOLOGISE NOW.”

“Fine, sorry fish boy. Alright Sungmin, calm yourself, you’re acting like more of a girl that he is” I gestured to Donghae. Okay, maybe that was a bad move. I know that Sungmin hated being called a girl. Just like Donghae before, tears now welled up in Sungmin’s eyes before he stood up and ran out of the room.

Nice going Hyukjae, nice going.

Kyuhyun stood up stood after, “You’re such a jerk!” he spat at me before chasing after Sungmin calling “Min, wait up!”

Changmin just looked up at me and shook his head before going off to sit with some seniors, Heechul, Leeteuk, Junsu and Hangeng. Shindong then turned to me and sighed “That was low Hyuk” he said before walking off to sit with Changmin and the others, walking up to Yunho on the way over and explaining what had happened. Jaejoong looked horrified. He walked over and slammed my strawberry milk down on the table before taking Ryeowook by the hand and walking off again, muttering “Jerk” under his breath.

I turned so see Donghae looking at me with an unreadable expression on his face.

“That wasn’t nice of you” he said, looking sad.

“I know” I sighed defeated.

“Then why did you do it?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. “Your friends seemed really shocked at you. It seems like you aren’t usually like that”

“I’m not”

“So what changed?”

“I…” what did change? Why was I even acting like this? It made no sense. Before I could think of a reasonable answer, Jessica walked over and kissed me right on the lips, totally ignoring Donghae. I don’t know why but this kind of annoyed me.

“Hey baby, look, I’m sorry but I can’t make our date tonight, I erm, I have family stuff” she fake smiled.

“Alright” I said, not really interested. It was obvious that she was lying but I didn’t really want to know , nor did I care what she was really doing.

“Okay, thanks for understanding, see you babe” she smiled and kissed me again before walking off with her giggling friends. One of them, Sunny, threw me a sad smile, I think she felt bad about whatever Jessica was really doing. I liked Sunny, she was a nice girl.

“Erm… I take it that was your g-girlfriend” Donghae said after a minute of silence.

“Ani, loads of girls just come up and kiss me randomly” I said.

“Oh” he said, his mouth making a little ‘o’ shape. I couldn’t help but laugh at how innocent he could be.

“I was kidding, she is my girlfriend.” I laughed and poked the straw into my milk. Sipping it.

He nodded and began to look through his bag, he sighed sadly and pulled out a bottle of water.

After talking a sip he looked up at me and frowned “Hyukjae, do you really not want to be my friend?”

“It’s not that” I answered slowly, taking another sip of my milk. What was it? I mean, it made no sense, I’d never acted like this around anyone before so why now? “I just…” I sighed “I do want to be your friend Donghae”

“Hmm, but who said I wanted to be yours?” He chuckled before getting up and leaving the cafeteria.
