Reality
HopelessOnce Changmin had been allowed to accept visitors, his parents were the first ones in his room, of course, spending a considerably long amount of time in the room. After more than an hour, they stepped out, allowing his sisters to visit.
Now, everybody else sat in the waiting room, anxiously waiting for their turns.
Yunho ran his hand through his hair.
His breath hitched as his mind took him back to that fateful night Changmin had been taken from him.
"Hyung?" Kyuhyun asked Yunho as he put a hand to the older one's shoulder, genuinely concerned by the horrified look that suddenly appeared on the older one's face.
Yunho snapped out of his trance, shaking the horrid sound of the kidnapper's voice from his head.
"Are you okay?" Kyuhyun asked.
Yunho nodded. "Just tired...and a little nervous, I guess," he answered, which was only part of the truth, but at least it was something.
"It's almost your turn to see him," Kyuhyun reminded him. "I know the doctor said that we could see him two at a time, and I know that you and I were going in together, but I think you should go alone."
Yunho raised his eyebrows. "Why?" he asked. He was already nervous about seeing Changmin after all this time. How would Changmin react? Would he forgive Yunho for letting him down?
Now that Kyuhyun wanted him to go alone, being with Changmin scared Yunho even more.
"I know how much of a toll this has taken on you," Kyuhyun answered. "I really think you should see him by yourself, maybe you'd feel more comfortable telling him how you felt if it was just the two of you."
A small smile crossed Yunho's face. "Thanks," he said. Kyuhyun's answer didn't ease Yunho's worry one bit, but he did see the value in the younger one's suggestion.
Before Kyuhyun could reply, Sooyeon and Jiyeon approached Yunho. "You can see him now," Jiyeon announced.
On shaky legs, Yunho rose from his seat. After receiving an encouraging look from BoA, he slowly walked toward Changmin's room.
The doctor's voice continued to ring in Yunho's head.
"Right now, Changmin has several bruises on his body, as well as cuts and burns."
"It seems that he's endured several beatings."
"He's obviously malnourished."
"I'm sorry to say...evidence has shown that Changmin has been ually assaulted several times."
"From what we can see, he's suffering from severe mental trauma, and though it may be too early to offically diagnose, we've already noticed signs of post traumatic stress."
What kind of person would treat another human being that way? Would anything ever be the same again? Yunho's mind was racing. His heart was pounding. The closer he got to Changmin's room, the more afraid he became. Yunho didn't even know what he would say to Changmin.
Everything started spinning once Yunho reached the door to Changmin's room. He swallowed the lump in his throat. He felt a thin layer of perspiration on his forehead before wiping it away.
Outside of Changmin's room were two guards, protecting the rescued victim from any possible threat. With Changmin being an idol, the news of his rescue was released almost immediately. They couldn't risk someone sneaking into the hospital to see Changmin.
The guards gave Yunho a sympathetic look as he approached.
After taking a few deep breaths, Yunho opened the door.
Changmin was awake. Right away, Yunho noticed the bruises and cuts on the younger ones arms that were hugged around his chest. Changmin stared into the distance, seeming to not notice there was a new visitor.
Yunho slowly approached Changmin, trying to ignore the slight tremble in Changmin's body.
"Changmin," Yunho said once he was close. It took every bit of self-control to not grab Changmin and hug him tight. Yunho remembered the warnings from the doctors as well as the police and Changmin's parents. Changmin wasn't ready for that kind of contact, and Yunho didn't want to throw Changmin into a fit of panic so soon after reuniting with him.
At the sound of his name, Changmin's head snapped up in surprise. Yunho noticed Changmin's breathing slightly increased.
So much for not trying to scare him, Yunho mentally berated himself.
Changmin's shoulder-length dark hair was a big contrast compared to his extremely pale face, and the scared expression made him look like he had seen a ghost.
Of course he'd look like he'd seen a ghost. The last time he saw you, you were bleeding out on his bedroom floor, you moron!
Yunho was moved into action once he noticed Changmin's eyes watering up.
"It's okay, Changmin," Yunho said in a gentle voice. "It's me."
Changmin bit his lip.
"I really missed you, Changdola," Yunho continued to speak, hoping his calm conversation would soothe Changmin's nerves.
Yunho noticed Changmin opening his mouth to speak, but the words seemed to keep getting stuck in his throat.
"Kyuhyun's here too," Yunho added, although he was sure that Changmin was aware of this fact by now. "He missed you too. He got really messed up after you..." Yunho stopped himself, not knowing how Changmin would respond to the word 'kidnapped'. "We all were messed up." He cleared his throat, suddenly tired
