“Alright everyone, this is your first appearance to bring in the New Year and your new mini, so be funny and be cool!” All the members of Teen Top nodded and bowed towards their manager as they started to get ready for their appearance on M-Net’s “Open Studio”.

As they headed to the stage, their manager pulled Minsoo aside.

“Try to be funny this time. You are the least popular and you need to liven up. Stop just sitting there.” Minsoo nodded, but he wasn’t confident in his ability to be funny. “Be funny.” The manager just shooed him away with the rest of the members. Daniel grabbed his arm quickly.

“You’ll be okay,” he whispered before patting his father on his back. Minsoo smiled and nodded before going onstage with the rest of Teen Top. Changjo looked at them for a moment before looking away when L Joe pushed him a little.

“Everyone, please welcome Teen Top!” The audience cheered for the boys as they entered and they smiled from ear to ear. No matter how much they perform, they were always nervous.

“Hello! We are Emotional teen pop band, Teen Top!” They bowed and smiled to the fans before taking their seats. The show was moving smoothly and the members where interacting and giving their own witty remarks, except Changjo who usually stays silent.

“When you turn 30, you said that you’d be a married father,” said the MC. The Teen Top members agreed with the statement and so did Minsoo.  “What kind of father does our leader C.A.P think he’ll be like at 30?” Minsoo opened his mouth in surprise that he was asked the question. Both Changjo and Daniel offered him their microphones, but Minsoo accepted his sons as he started.

“I…,” he started. Changjo tried to laugh off the fact that Minsoo looked to Daniel immediately. “I’m going to raise my kids coolly.” The MCs and the audience awed in acceptance, but they weren’t satisfied.

“How cool? How cool?” Asked the MC. As they asked, Minsoo looked out and saw his manager making movements, signaling for him to continue.

“Entertain!” He mouthed.

“For my son, I’ll do everything for him and dote on him.” Daniel ha to stop himself from smiling as he thought of what Minsoo has done for him and his sister. He helped him get into the company and be a singer and send advice and money to his sister every week. “I’ll buy him everything he wants.” He can’t help but to let a small smile grace his lips. Changjo noticed Daniel looking on with a look of admiration, but he couldn’t help but also find it nice and admirable of Minsoo. As he spoke, their manager rolled his hands, desperation filling his movements. “As for my daughter,” continued Minsoo, “I’ll hit her and keep her locked up at home.”

The group woke up from his words. Chunji, who was smiling of happiness before, was now smiling of embarrassment. Daniel didn’t understand and looked to Minsoo with a questioning glance. Ricky looked around surprised and slightly horrified, while Changjo had to register what he said before questioning him disbelievingly along with L Joe.

“Why? Why?” Yelled out one of the MCs in horror.

“That’s scary!” Yelled out the other.

 Minsoo realized that he made a mistake and regretted it instantly. His heart dropped and breathing became harder. The manager placed his hands onto his face in shock and disbelief.

“Because it’s dangerous outside!” Minsoo tried to fix it, but he knew he couldn’t. Even though Minsoo knew they shouldn’t, the members stuck by him, but Daniel just couldn’t understand him.

“Then you’ll hit her at home, too?” Asked Daniel. He was being serious, because he has never thought of his father being an evil person. He always saw him as someone who wants to protect him and his sister. Misnoo has never laid a hand on either of them, but now that this came into view, Daniel became worried.

“Sounds like it would be more dangerous at home,” added Chunji. He was trying to save the situation, but even he knew that it was a losing battle. He tried to make it a joke, but he knew that there are a lot of people who will not forgive him or them as a whole. Minsoo noticed that Chunji was trying to save him, but for some reason he decided to keep speaking.

“So that she listens to me well,” he added. He knew he was making it worse, but he just couldn’t shut himself up. The MCs saw that he was getting them even further in trouble, so they helped them out by changing the subject to Chunji.

‘Why am I so STUPID!?’ He thought to himself. The rest of the recording had an awkward, tense feeling around it. The members felt uncomfortable, the MCs felt uncomfortable, even the audience felt it.

The ride home in the van was silent. No one said a word. Minsoo didn’t even pretend to be asleep, and no one brought it up. No one knew how to bring this up. Their manager just gave a sigh as he drove, but he didn’t even dare to turn on the radio. All that was heard was the sound of the engine and some horns every now and then. Minsoo laid his head against the window as he avoided everyone’s gaze. Daniel pretended to be asleep, but the others just stared out awkwardly in silence.

Once they reached their dorm, they entered silently. Minsoo went straight to his room before everyone came in and locked his door.

“What is wrong with him?!” Hissed Chunji. Everyone looked at each other and shrugged. “He’s giving us trouble before we can even continue our comeback!” Chunji was fuming and was trying his best to not scream in frustration. L Joe grabbed his arm and pulled him to have a seat.

“Calm down, Chunji,” he said softly. Chunji just huffed and turned away. “Look, we don’t know what was going through his mind at the time, so let’s just keep calm and wait for him to come and talk to us.”  Chunji couldn’t help but nod in agreement. Daniel still has not said a word, and Changjo sees the doubt and fear on his face. Even though he may not want Daniel to be with Minsoo, he knew that it would be unfair to let Daniel suffer for his own ideals. Changjo put an arm around his shoulder and rubbed his shoulder.

“I know he didn’t mean it. You know he never really talks, so he must have been nervous, that’s all.” Daniel only nodded. “Don’t doubt our leader, besides, we don’t know what’s going on at home.” That struck a chord with Daniel. His curiosity peaked once again.

‘Is that why he had us adopted?’ He shook his head before smiling at Changjo. “Thanks Changjo, but I’m going to go talk to him.” Changjo nodded before letting his arm fall away. He watched Daniel walk towards his room before unlocking it and disappearing behind it. No one noticed the pair of dark eyes staring after Daniel angrily.
