Receiving a phone call from an old friend Kris hasn’t heard from in a while, his old friend Key. In fact, Kris didn’t even know Key is currently a popular idol in S. Korea. The phone call Kris received from Key is to pick up a drunken friend of Key’s from a karaoke place in down town. He arrived to the room to find someone fast asleep on the sofa face down and a table full of foods and drinks.

“Dude, wake up. I have to take you home.” Kris said as he turns over the drunken person only to find a familiar face. “Amber?” Shock Kris backs away, almost running out of the room. He stops himself from leaving and took another look at the person to make sure he isn’t mistaken. Taking another look, it really was Amber. Is this fate or just some curse mocking me? Kris sat to the side feeling a bit frustrated. He calmly asks Amber for her home address, but there are no responses from Amber aside from a few mumbles here and there. Looking through Amber’s bag he was able to find her home address.

Carrying Amber on his back he could feel her heart beat. When Kris reach the front door the two female clerks at the front desk said while bowing to Kris, “Have a good day sir and thank you for your business.”

Kris was so distracted he almost forgot to respond. “Yes and thank you.” His response is awkward as he rushes to bow. He couldn’t help but be focus on Amber who he is carrying on his back. The awkwardness in his response made the female clerk things she is making Kris feel awkward, thinking that she made Kris fall for her.

“He’s handsome isn’t he?” One of the clerks said to another. Both of them started arguing with each other that they made Kris fall for them. Kris pays no attention to them as he walks out the door.

Amber’s arm was dangling loosely over his shoulder as her head rested besides his. Her smelly alcohol breath didn’t bother him. The only thing that was bothering him was just having Amber on his back. Time feels like it was slowing down. Each step feels as if it took him hours to make. Kris didn’t bother to start a conversation because he didn’t know what he should say.

“Hey.” Amber said still drunk. She wraps her arm around Kris and said, “Your back is warm.”

Surprise Kris said stuttering, “Wa- What are you saying?”

“I feel cold but your warm back feels nice.”

“Are you still drunk?”

“Am I drunk? I don’t remember.” Amber laughs at the thought of it.

Of course she was still drunk, too drunk to realize it so Kris want to make sure by asking, “Do you know who I am?”

“Yeah, a friend I do know you. You are a really good friend who is bringing me home.”

“It’s me Kris.”

“Kiss.” Amber heard him wrong. “I don’t think I know anyone name Kiss.”

“Are you angry to meet Kris again?”

“Kris?”

“Yeah it’s me.”

“I’m happy to meet you always.”

“As a friend?” Kris asks disappointed, not knowing how to take the words of a drunk Amber. They finally reach the door of Amber’s home and Amber has already fallen back asleep again. Kris lays Amber beside the door and as he was about to knock on the door he heard the footsteps of someone coming down the hall. He ran to hide in an adjacent hallway not wanting to expose himself to anyone, especial Sulli. To his surprise it was Sulli that appeared just in time to open the door for Amber. He sigh a breath of relief knowing he won’t be leaving Amber outside the door for a long time.

Hearing Amber’s name being called and her playing her part as an older sister made Kris heart beat faster. For the first time it was clear who his heart is beating for since Sulli have rejected him. Kris glance from the corner and saw them going inside. He quickly ran for the elevator and left the building. When his mind clear and made a phone call to Key.

Out in the park alone and  heartbroken Key still sat where Sulli had left him, on the swing set.  Kris appears behind Key after getting his location. In frustration he kicks Key off the swing.

Key was surprised, he thought he was going to get involve in some gang fight he didn’t intend to get into. He fell forward and he quickly caught himself before hitting the ground. Turning back Key was preparing for the worst as he pick up his fist yelling, “I know how to fight.”

“We haven’t met for so long and now you end up getting me involve in your girl trouble.” Key was surprise that it was Kris. “So, speak up/”

“How did you find me so fast?”

“I use to roam around here.” Realizing how strange his words sounds he quickly said, “I’m asking about you.”

“I’m sorry that this is how we would meet again. Did Amber make it home okay?”

“Yeah, what about your girl. Is Amber your girl?”

“No. No…” Key’s voice grew weak.

“Is Sulli your girl?”

“How did you know her name?”

“Long story.” Kris didn’t want to answer that part. “I know her through Amber. How did you get to know them?”

“Same, through Amber.”

Kris laughs. “What are the chances that we meet again through a single girl?”

“It’s a miracle.”

His face grew serious, Kris asks, “Which one are you aiming for? If it is Sulli or Amber.”

“I like Amber, but I’m growing feeling for Sulli. I don’t know what to do. I hurt Sulli. What should I tell Amber?”

“Figure it out yourself.” Kris left Key alone in the park.

It has been a few days since Kris had gone to the karaoke place to pick up Amber. Since then he stopped going to the pizza restaurant. He spent the last few days thinking about what he should do with his life. The last four years after he had finish high school, Kris has been spending his time smooching off his parents’ money and he rarely visited his family unless it is mandatory family event. His unannounced appearances on his parents days off from work surprised them thinking he must have done something terribly wrong.

“Good morning mother and father.” Kris said as he enters his parents’ house. Surprising them even more, Kris got on his knee and said, “I need a job. I can’t continue living the life I have been living.”

“What happened? You didn’t get trap by shark loaners did you?” His mother said worriedly.

“I’ll disown you if you get yourself into dirt you can’t get yourself out from.” His father said angrily. “You didn’t go beating an innocent by stander did you?”

“No.” Kris said angrily. “I didn’t get into trouble this time. I just want to change.”

“You did something wrong didn’t you?” His father continues.

“No, I did nothing like that.” The trouble expression on Kris face made his mother calm his father down.

“Honey lets listen to what our son Kris have to say.” His mother said.

With a loud cough his father then say, “Alright son lets hear it.”

Kris bow deep as he was still on his knew to the ground in front of his parents. “I want a job so that I can start changing myself. Any job is fine as long as I get one.”

“Why do you want to have a job after a few years of not wanting it?” His father said

“There is someone I want to impress no matter what.”

His mother’s expression brightens. “Do you have your eyes set on a girl?”

“She should come from a good family if you want her to be in our family.” His father said.

Interrupting his mother said nudging his father, “If our son choose a good girl then it is good enough for me.” Looking at his father. “What kind of girl could handle our handsome son’s look and make him work so hard to become a better person? Isn’t that the kind of daughter we want.”

“True. I would want a cute daughter and cute grandchildren to hold.” His father looks at him saying, “Any girl is fine as long as she is a nice girl. Just make sure you marry a girl who can take care of you and your temper.”

“What. Wait, wait. When are we even talking about marriage?” Kris complains. Thinking back on what he said. “I didn’t mention if I was doing this for a girl.”

“It’s okay if you are not doing this for a girl.” His mother smiles happily still thinking Kris is doing this for a girl. “Your father will think about it. Right honey?”

 “Yeah, I’ll see what I can do. Well have to start you from the entrance level. Are you okay with that?” His father said.

With a smile on his face Kris said, “Thank you mother and father.”

Later that day Amber had just clock out of work. Her fellow female coworkers stops her to ask about the cute guy who was waiting at the window and if Amber knows anything about that guy. She answers to them in a simple voice, “Oh him, I don’t know. I haven’t heard from him in a couple of days. So far I haven’t talk to him aside from seeing him sit in the restaurant.”

“Wait, what. You knew the guy and didn’t tell us.” Said girl one.

“Omo, don’t tell me that the two of you were in a relationship recently and just broke up.” Said girl two.

“I’ll go with he’s just Amber’s friend.” Said girl three with an attitude. “How can he fall for a tomboy like Amber? No offense though.” The girl turns to Amber then back at the other girls. “I mean really?”

Feeling discourage Amber said, “I don’t know him, I was just pulling your legs.” I haven’t thought it that way before. Am I just dreaming about the impossible?

All the girls ‘aw’ in disappointment. “Amber, don’t get our hopes up.” Said girl two.

Walking alone on her way home Amber thought about the events that has been taking place in just the last couple of months. Should I get into music? I love music and stuff but can I really make a living off of it? Before Amber realizes it Key was walking beside her. “Key?”

“I’m sorry.” He said.

“For what?”

“She didn’t tell you.”

“That you broke her heart. No I figure it must have been you.”

Feeling awkward Key said, “I…”

“Don’t say anything. Sorry I rush you into it. I didn’t think she would fall for you that quickly. I don’t know if she became a fan then fall for you or that she met you and then fall for you.”

“No it’s my fault. She saw us together.”

Amber stops walking and turns to Key. “Together doing what? We’re just friends.”

“Let’s keep walking.” Key said trying to push Amber back into walking.

“There’s something you are keeping from me right?”

Key could stair at Amber strait in the eyes. “No it’s nothing.”

“What happened yesterday? Sulli won’t talk to me about it. Did you do something unforgivable?” Key stayed silent. Amber continues seeing how Key didn’t keep eye contact with her. “Key, tell me.”

“I k-” His face grew flush red as he attempts to word his sentence. He mumbles rushing his words, “I kiss you when you were drunk.”

Amber listens and caught everything Key said. “Kiss?” Her face became red. “You kissed me?”

“I like y-”

“Stop.” Amber said as she places her index finger on Key’s lips. “I said we are friends and nothing more than that. Please don’t make it awkward. You’ll always be my friend. I’m sorry. I happy to know that you feel that way about me and it actually made me feel fluster, but I have someone else in my heart.”

“Alright.” Key said feeling sad.

Amber gave him a hug saying, “It’s good to have friends.”

“Who do you like then?”

“I’m waiting to see if that person will like me back.” Amber chuckle and said, “It seems like everyone is getting their hearts broken.” Key looks at Amber with a worry expression. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m fine, it just happens that there are many people who I know that have a hard time finding love at the moment.”

After Key had left Amber couldn’t help but wonder where could Key have the chance to kiss her. Then the thought came to her. It must have been when she was drunk. Did he fall for me that hard that he would kiss me without my consent? He must have known what my response would be if he said that he… love me. Looking at the direction Key left in.  I don’t know if Kris would like such a tomboy as me. I only want him to fall for who I really am, my normal tomboy self.

From the Author: The story didn't go as planned, it was as if the story have it's own heartbeat. I write out a quick summary for each upcoming chapters in the story before I start writing. Sometimes I add details I haven't thought about before. Depending on the chapter, it would take me at least three days to write it. Then a few more days to plan what is going to happen in the chapters ahead to decide if the summary I wrote would match with what had happened in the previous chapters.
