The Blind Date - Part 1

The Spell

Luhan kicked some rocks on the sidewalk when he was waiting for his date in front of the assigned address. He took another glance at the paper Kris gave him yesterday. It was a light pink A4 size paper with a big title “GUIDELINE FOR SIA’S BLIND DATE” and a list of steps. At the end of the paper, there was a small line written with highlight “Remember to take a lot of pictures. Have fun!”

Luhan couldn’t help but smiling, he folded the paper and put it back into his pocket. It’s not like he was desperate for a date, quite the opposite, a lot of girls (and even boys) were dreaming to go out with him. He just simply thought it might be one of interesting memories in his senior year, therefore when Tao asked him if he could go for him in the first place, he gladly agreed. Why not, right? You made new friend, had fun for free so what’s the point to have a second thought.

FLASH BACK

“Ge…..”

Tao plopped into a chair in front of Luhan at the breakfast, whining. His dongsaeng usually didn’t use his ageyo voice unless something pissed him off or he wanted the other to give him a treatment. Wiping the crumbs on the corner of his mouth with a tissue, Luhan asked concernedly.

“What’s wrong?”

The younger male slammed a piece of paper, actually a ticket, on the table, continued pouting.

“Do you know Kris ge is mean?”

Luhan chuckled, shook his head in response. His friends were fighting again.

“No, he’s not mean, but he’s strict in matters of principle.” he reached out to pick the ticket up to have a clear view “Now tell me what’s going on?”

“The damn blind date.” Tao crossed his arms “I asked him if he could get me out of it but he said it’s traditional and there was nothing that he could do. What’s the point to be best friend with the President huh?”

Luhan examined the piece in his hand carefully before stated the matter of fact

“Blind date is fun, especially when you don’t have to pay.”

Tao blinked in disbelief. He even leaned in, put both of elbows on the table, narrowed his brows as if the thing that his gege just said was the weirdest one he had ever heard.

“You don’t know about that do you?”

“About what?” Luhan whispered back, trying to play along with the mood.

“The spell that was spread from generations. If you go on this blind date, you will be stuck with that person forever.”

The expression on Tao’s face was so serious and mysterious that Luhan couldn’t help but bursting out laughing. He couldn’t believe that a twenty-year-old boy whose life’s slogan was “Nothing in the world could stop Kungfu Panda Tao” was actually convinced (and scared) by such a childish rumor. After quite a minute trying to stop himself from making his dongsaeng mad, Luhan managed to get a hold on him.

“Where did you get that, Tao? It’s ridiculous.”

“Minseok ge told me.”

Noticing the older male still laughed at him, Tao pursed his lips and began sulking.

“You’re mean too. I hate all of you.”

Luhan immediately flashed his warm innocent smile, that smile that stole so many fan girls’ hearts.

“Oh, don’t be like that.” he leaned forward and gave Tao a pinch on his cheek “And it’s not true. I will talk to Minseok later. He has got to stop putting fairy tales in your head.”

The younger one rolled his eyes, crossed his legs and mumbled

“It’s easy for you to say. You’re not the one who will be stuck with some random ugly girl for the rest of your life.”

Luhan tilted his head aside thinking. As long as they've known each other, Tao had plan for his wedding day since he was fourteen. He always talked without ceasing about how his wife would be, how many children they would have despite the fact that all his geges was laughing at his girly thoughts. To be honest, Luhan admired his little brother a lot. The younger boy had his own belief, principle and really didn’t care whether people thought he was crazy or not. Now in Tao’s opinion, the whole spell thing might ruin his future plan so as a good gege, Luhan guessed there something that he could rearrange.

Averting his eyes to Tao’s direction, Luhan cleared his throat.

“How about I talk to Kris and go on this date for you?”

END OF FLASH BACK

Luhan checked on his phone again, apparently his date was not a punctual type. He had almost waited for 20 minutes and there was still no sign of the other. It was Saturday and the street was getting crowded. He was a little pissed off when people started notice and some girls actually asked him if he’s free for coffee. Luhan was about to call Kris and complained then he saw a younger boy was walking toward his direction. Luhan recognized the jacket with the logo of SIA right away. It’s their code.

The younger boy stopped when he saw Luhan was staring at him, his facial expression was hard to read. It was a mixture of some kind of surprise and a little bit relief. Noticing both of them were just standing still, locking their gazes at each other, Luhan decided to step up and broke the awkward moment.

“Hello, I’m Luhan.”

“Sehun.”

The other short answered, his cold stone face made Luhan twist his brows unpleasantly.

“Nice to meet you Sehun.” Luhan tried to be nice, stretched out his hand for a handshake but all he received was another stony glare.

“Which department do you come from?”

“Look.” Sehun finally spoke up “I don’t have time for this. Why don’t you just tell me what we are going to do so we can get it over with.”

Luhan was startled and offended a bit by the harsh words the younger boy said. It’s gonna be a long day for him cuz according to the guideline, they had to go to a bookshop, then having lunch at a café, then a movie and lastly a romantic walk at the park. And from the little preview of their greeting, he might be the one only who expected that this day would gonna be fun.

Luhan fished out the pink paper from his pocket and gave it to Sehun. He silently watched the reaction on Sehun’s face while secretly found a chance to take a full picture of him. The younger boy had dark brown hair with perfect face’s ratio, his skin quite white and Luhan could tell this boy had been working out. However what caught Luhan’s eyes was his pretty hand with long, slender fingers. He must be an artist.

“Whoever writes this” Sehun suddenly flapped the paper in front of him “is stupid. What kind of romance do they want from me?”

Luhan chuckled, well maybe it’s not that bad to have a date with this boy.

“Okay, so first place is the bookshop. Let’s go!”

**********

Luhan wandered along the aisle between the bookshelves, trailing his fingers at the back of the books arranged neatly in front of him. He was at the photography section of a bookshop nearby the center of Seoul. Sehun was nowhere to be found when the younger boy disappeared at the corner of the cooking section. Luhan couldn’t care more, he wanted to find some good materials for his final design. This is his last year and based on what he had now, his professor once recommended him to read more to cultivate his knowledge. It’s not that Luhan didn’t like book, it’s just when it came to idea and creativity, he had his own way and reading was the last thing on his mind.

Luhan lazily shifted his eyes around, the atmosphere here made him feel peaceful. He dug into his backpack to find the mini camera Kris gave him yesterday with a note “Take some pics as a proof wherever you two go.”

After few minutes taking some photos, Luhan spotted a dark brown hair appear vaguely not far from him. He moved forward that direction, holding up the camera to find a right angle. The moment Luhan pressed button, he saw a small smile curved upon the younger boy’s lips and it gave him goose bump. A crazy thought came across his mind also a plan found its way to be formed under Luhan’s smirk.

Sehun sensed someone was staring at him as he was looking through some cooking book. He looked up to find Luhan was approaching with a big grin. Although Sehun was always uncomfortable around a stranger, he didn’t have this feeling with Luhan. To be honest, something about this boy made him feel a little bit attracted. However, after a lot of things happened in the past, he refused to deal with new friend so keeping a distance was his first choice.

“You like cooking?” Luhan beamed brightly at him.

Sehun quickly grabbed two books that he had taken a scan before, heading to the cashier. The older boy couldn’t help but pouted, following the other. The cashier noticed the tension between them, she giggled.

“You two fighting?”

The question snapped Luhan back, he waved his hands vigorously while sputtering, looking at Sehun and then the girl behind the counter.

“No..no..I…he..we’re not together. We’re…er…just friends.”

The cashier burst out laughing whereas Sehun facepalmed himself. The younger boy stomped out of the shop as soon as possible, ignoring Luhan called after him. He only stopped when noticed people were giving him weird look for the whole scene. He span around, about to vent his anger on Luhan but seeing the innocent smile flashing on the latter’s face, Sehun let out a sigh.

“I’m starving. Let’s go eat!”
