The Spell

“Sehun ah, are you sure they’ll like it?”

Luhan stuck his phone between his ear and shoulder, tilted his head aside to measure the box of tea-set which was wrapped carefully on the table.

On the other side of the line, the half sleep voice of the Korean boy made him check the time on his hand watch.

Opps, it’s still early.

“You picked the one with sapphire pattern right?”

He bended down a little bit to peer through the glazed paper.

“Uhm.”

“Then don’t worry. They’ll love it.”

The affirmation in his boyfriend’s tone made him sigh in relief. He held the phone with his hand again, plopped on his bed giggling.

“Did I wake you up Sehunnie?”

“Yes….”there came a loud yawn “And how many time I told you not to call me Sehunnie. It’s enough that my moms kept calling me this.”

“But it’s cute.” he protested but then realized it would not be a convincing reason, he came up with another idea “How about I give you a new nickname?”

“What’s wrong with ‘Sehun’?”

“Nothing.” the Chinese boy pouted “But I want to call you in a special way.”

“Okay, you’re working on it” the younger one mumbled, clearly didn’t have that much energy to argue with the other at such an early morning “I have just slept for 4 hours now baby. Can we talk later?”

The Year-end party had lasted longer than expected and as the only one who was sober last night, it looked like Sehun had to take care of his friend before going to bed. Luhan pursed his lips, even though he wanted to see his boyfriend the first thing in New Year morning but it’s better to let the latter rest before they gave his moms a visit.

“Okay. Go back to sleep. I’ll see you at the bus stop.”

He tossed the phone aside, put both of his hands above head to think about what he would do until then.

They had three days off for New Year holiday and most of students had come back home since yesterday.  He wanted to fly back Beijing too but since their divorce two years ago, his mother mainly spent her time being around to help poor people while his father was busy as always.

Therefore right when he told Sehun that his parents was out of town so he’s going to stay here, the younger boy immediately asked him to come visit his hometown because apparently his moms wanted to know more about their soon-to-be-son-in-law.

Luhan remembered how red his cheek was then as he pictured his future with the Korean boy. It’s his last year and to be honest, falling love with Sehun was something beyond his prediction and totally made his further plan upside down.

A buzz from his phone cut off his thought. He furrowed his brows as seeing the name of person sent him a text. He’s not sleeping?

From: Cutie pie

Sorry babe, I’m really sleepy. How about I pick you up at 9 and we can have some cake and bubble tea before going? Love ya…

Luhan stared at the screen and couldn’t help but grinning like an idiot. He wondered what he had done in past life to be lucky enough to have the sweetest boyfriend in the whole world like that.

Even though he was older, Sehun cared about him in every little thing, hardly said no to his request and no one could believe that gentle man he was dating was the same Oh Sehun they knew, even his closest friends.

However, once the younger boy got on stage with his violin, that was the whole new feeling. Luhan could tell Sehun was born to be an artist. He had the cool look, the talent and above all of them, the passion.

The Chinese male stood up, walking toward his table and fished out a small box from the drawer. He carefully placed it on the table and opened it. It stored a lot of things that connected closely to many of his memories. Lately he had just added one item that actually did not belong to him. It’s Sehun’s and he always tried to find the right moment to give it back to the younger one.

Luhan trailed his finger on the rough cover of an old notebook. The stained spots told him that its owner had had a really hard time to write it. He silently put it into his backpack, along with his camera and some clothes.

It’s New Year and Sehun would grant him a wish right?

*************

Both Sehun and Luhan were surprised when Jongin opened the door welcome them. The maknae even looked back to make sure he didn’t go to the wrong house.

“What are you doing here?”

Sehun walked pass his friend and motioned the Chinese boy to follow him. Jongin frowned at the way the other greeted him but quickly ignored it and beamed brightly at the special guest.

“Happy New Year Luhan hyung!”

“Happy New Year Jonginnie.”

The older male smiled, reached out to give the younger a hug but he could barely touch the other’s shoulder because he was dragged away by a shouting Sehun.

“Mom, I’m home.”

“In the kitchen sweetie!”

Soon the kitchen became crowded as three young boys gathered around the main chef Chaerim. Luhan bowed politely as he handed her his present. The elder woman couldn’t help but squealing and pinching his cheek delightedly.

“Omo, thank you Luhan. It’s so beautiful.” then she nudged her son on his side, winked “He has aesthetic eye.”

Sehun chuckled. Of course, his mom would love those tea cups. Who knew his mom better than him right? He was sure Luhan’s cuteness could knock out anyone but it didn’t kill a flier to make another good impression, did it?

The Chinese boy sent him a shy smile and he had a hard time to prevent himself from cupping this baby face and kissed those pink lips right away.

Their moment was interrupted by coughs from two other people in the room. Chaerim clapped her hands and began to shoo the kids out of her kitchen.

“Okay, go play somewhere boys. I need more space to cook.”

They slowly made their ways outside in turn and Sehun didn’t forget to give a quick kiss on the cheek to his beloved mother. The elder woman patted his back, couldn’t hold back her blissful smile as it was a long since she last saw her son’s sweet side.

When they finally settled down around the table in the living room with Sehun hand on the Luhan’s shoulder and Jongin leaned back comfortably on his chair, the youngest boy spoke up.

“Again, why are you here?”

The tan one pouted. Although he knew his friend didn’t have any malice in his word, he felt his presence was not welcomed.

“You’re not happy to see me?”

Still kept his stern voice, Sehun gazed at him

“I see you almost every day from the age of 13. It wouldn’t hurt if living one or two days without seeing your face.”

“Sehun ah, that’s rude.” Luhan gently scolded, sending sympathetic to the boy sitting opposite “But actually I have the same wonder when I saw you. I mean it’s New Year, aren’t you supposed to be with your family right now?”

Jongin tightened the fur pillow against his chest, letting out a small sigh.

“They’re on their business trip.”

The oldest one’s mouth formed into ‘o’ shape as he sensed the bitterness in his dongsaeng’s voice. He knew how it felt when you were left alone in this occasion.

Seeing that his statement turned the atmosphere a little down, the dancer flapped his hand in the air, grinning.
“But it’s okay hyung. I’m used to it. Besides, I always have a warm home to stay.”

That earned another understanding look from the Chinese boy. Luhan was definitely the kindest person he had ever met, along with the Oh family. This boy didn’t say trite and hollow words like other people, instead he used his eyes to show his true feeling.

They continued their conversation lively until the main door opened, revealing the other woman of this house. Sehun quickly rushed to her side to carry those heavy bags in her hand. Sora flashed her warm smile greeting the other boys.

After the not-so-good meeting with Sehun’s flesh and blood relatives, she was afraid it would affect to her small family. However, to her surprise everything was perfectly normal and she believed the reason for all of that was the honey brown hair boy standing right there.

“Luhan ssi, it’s great to see you again.”

“Me too.” Luhan bowed “It’s very nice of you to welcome me to your house in such meaningful occasion.”

“Oh, don’t be too formal. We’ll soon be family.”

“Mom!”

Sehun exclaimed from the kitchen after helping put the cake and drinks in the fridge while the older boy blushed deep in his position. Laugh was suddenly full all over the place and it brought homey feeling to everyone.

***********

It’s a lie to say that Sehun didn’t expect something new would happen between him and his boyfriend tonight as they finally had a chance to spend a night together, alone. He didn’t want to push the older one against his will but up til now, everything dropped right when his hand slid under Luhan’s shirt because the other couldn’t stop giggling and ruined the moment.

He was sure tonight his relationship was upgraded to the next level then the news came like a thunderbolt.

“Jonginnie will spend the night with you two. Have fun boys.”

He was about to exclaim to protest but realized his kkam buddy would be home alone so he reluctantly shut his mouth up and silently groaned in frustration.

“So” the tan boy the light, looked around “How would we sleep?”

“Lie down and close your eyes.” Sehun sarcastically said from behind, walking toward the wardrobe to take out the futon and blanket, clearly not pleased with him being the third wheel.

Ignoring the irritation in his friend’s voice, Jongin threw his arm on Luhan’s shoulder, pulled the older closer and whispered.

“Hyung, you should be careful.”

“Why?” Luhan asked innocently

“I’m sure he had something dirty in his mind and now being grumpy because I’m in his way.”

The Chinese’s cheek was growing pink and he darted his eyes to his younger boyfriend who was murmuring something inaudible while preparing the messy pillows and blanket for three of them. He was really grateful to Sehun for being so patient on him. If it wasn’t the Korean boy, he was absolutely dumped for keeping laughing whenever the other went lower than his neck. It’s not like he didn’t want to do more than just cuddling and kissing. It’s just he was inexperienced and afraid of doing it wrong. That could be an end of a relationship right?

The violinist snapped him out of his thought by pulling him to their place, a little bit too close to the big glass window and a little bit too far from where Jongin was going to sleep.

Of course...
