Chapter 11: Jealousy
Never a Replacement.
Both you and Junhyung went down from the rooftop around 6. The both of you didn’t sleep the whole night. As Junhyung went into his room, a few nurses were there, with the same worried looks on all of the faces. When they saw you and Junhyung, they were relieved.
One of the older nurses spoke up first. ‘Yah! Where have you been?! You aren’t supposed to leave the bed!’ Junhyung didn’t even look at her. He sat on the bed while saying, ‘No one told me I couldn’t leave the bed,’ stubbornly. He leaned on a pillow, closing his eyes a little. The nurses looked at him while shaking their heads.
‘Why are you guys still here? Do you wanna feed me grapes or something?’ Junhyung pretended to open his mouth and eat grapes as he said that, jokingly. The nurses couldn’t help but smile as they left his room. ‘Tsk. You should learn some manners yah, Junhyunggie.’ You said.
Junhyung smiled. ‘This isn’t about manners. This is just my style. And trust me. Girls dig this kind of style. Soon all of the nurses will be in love with me.’ He chuckled at your expression. ‘So are you gonna replace me with one of them?’ You said, giving him the threatening eyes.
‘No one could ever replace you.’ He leaned forward and kissed your cheek. You smiled, trying not to blush. He was the one, you thought. You’d never loved anyone so much. You thought about all the other guys you had coupled with. They were either those who hardly talked to you, or those who cared too much and texted you every 5 seconds asking you where you were. Junhyung’s special, and you were sure of it.
You left around noon, because Junhyung wanted you to take a bath and rest. ‘You stink. Go home,’ was his way of saying that. You grinned, because you understood him too well.
As you took your first step into your house, Dongwoon jumped up and ran to your side. ‘How’s Junhyung?’ He mumbled as he ran his fingers across a bandage on your arm where you were hit by Hara’s men. Before you could even answer, Dongwoon started saying, ‘Food is in the kitchen, I’ve put your clothes to wash, mom went out just a few hours ago, Hyunseung and Yoseob will be coming over later…’
Dongwoon trailed along as he followed you towards your room. But all you heard was the last sentence. ‘Kevin came over to look for you just now, and I told him about the incident. He asked you to call him back later.’ Your hearted pounded a little faster at that sentence. Why am I so excited? You blamed yourself a little, because you were with Junhyung.
‘Oh, ok.’ You tried to act like it was nothing, but Dongwoon saw through you. ‘Aww, look, our little girl is in love!’ He teased. You playfully smacked him on his head, saying, ‘Yah! I don’t like Kevin… And Dongwoonie…’ You wanted to tell him that you were with Junhyung now, but you don’t think it was time yet.
‘Hmm?’ Dongwoon looked at you. ‘Uhh, I think I wanna go take a nap now. I’ll call Kevin later.’ You mumbled and closed the door at Dongwoon’s face. He had a puzzled look on his face but he didn’t ask anything.
You fell on your bed, stretching your arms and legs while yawning. Then you rolled over to your side, took your phone out of your pocket and dialed Kevin’s number. ‘Yoboseyo?’ Kevin’s sweet voice said through the phone. ‘Aah… ahh, Kevin oppa, it’s me, ____.’
‘Oh! Are you okay? Dongwoon told me what happened. How’s Junhyung?’ Kevin sounded anxious. ‘I’m fine… Can we meet up somewhere? I’ll tell you about it then.’ You said. ‘Okay! What about the café outside our school? I’ll meet you there, okay?’
‘Okay, see you there in an hour’s time.’ You put down the phone, thinking of what to tell Kevin later. Lazily, you rolled down the bed and practically crawled to the bathroom to take a bath. Yes, you were that kind of girl. ‘Mmmm,’ You mumbled as you brush your teeth while sitting on the toilet bowl.
You were sleepy as you didn’t sleep last night, but you wanted to meet up with Kevin. After you took a bath, you randomly picked a shirt and wore a baseball jacket outside, and put on the jeans you found on the floor. It’s probably clean, you thought. Another part of your brain was like, ‘TSK, TSK. This isn’t what a girl should be like.’ You ignored that thought and walked out of the house.
When you reached the café, Kevin was already there. ‘Sorry, I’m late.’ You weren’t, but you said it anyway. ‘No, I was early.’ This dialog happens in every movie, you thought. ‘May I take your order?’ The waitress came out of nowhere, saying. ‘Uh, a cup of coffee please. Hot.’ You said, sitting down.
After the waitress left, you started telling Kevin about what happened, and the details that Dongwoon probably didn’t tell. Kevin looked relieved when he heard that Junhyung was fine. After you finished talking, the both of you were quiet for a little while.
‘So… got a new girlfriend yet?’ You said, jokingly, as you didn’t know what else to say. Kevin looked up and smiled at you. ‘No.’ He paused, hesitating. ‘About that…’ He paused again, looking at you. ‘W-would you be my girlfriend? I’ve thought about it a lot, and you’re a really nice girl, and I would like to…’
You stopped him. ‘Kevin oppa, I’m sorry.’ You said. ‘I… I’m with Junhyung now.’ You said, with a look of guilt on your face. ‘Oh.’ Kevin was sad, but he tried not to show it. ‘Okay! You two look great together!’ He forced a smile on his face.
‘You know, you really don’t have to pretend like you’re happy.’ You said straight forwardly. Kevin gave a small smile. He sighed. ‘One last question. If I asked you out earlier than Junhyung, would you have said yes?’
To be honest, you would. You really liked Kevin a lot, and he was those type of guy that you would totally love to be with. Bright, slightly crazy, always happy, smart, rich, good looking, funny, he had all a girl would want.
On the other hand, Junhyung. He wasn’t rich, yes, good looking, but he had a dark past and it’s harder for him to feel happy all the time, he had to work hard for a living, he lost his parents, he doesn’t have any relatives, and he isn’t that popular. But yet… you loved him so much.
You looked up at Kevin. ‘I would have said yes to you if I hadn’t met Junhyung. But I’m sure that now he plays the biggest role in my life, and I can’t lose him no matter what.’ You said truthfully. Kevin smiled. ‘Thanks for being so honest.’
‘I’ve to go, I still have to go to the hospital later.’ You finished the last bit of your coffee and left. ‘I owe you a cup of coffee!’ You waved your hand as you left the café.
Kevin leaned back on the chair, sighing. ‘I wish that we could be more than friends.’ He mumbled sadly. He felt a sudden hatred towards Junhyung. ‘Things would’ve been different if he was gone.’ Kevin clenched his fists as he thought.
