Jaejoong heard a sharp clashing sound, a noise that he believed to be the phone falling from _______’s hands. . His first response was to instantly deny it. “__________. It’s not what it sounds like. ” Obviously it was a rather weak excuse and ________ wouldn’t fall for it, but Jaejoong was left without options. Usually, he was able to plan things out so that he could predict the next step, but now, things had suddenly changed. And he wasn’t quite sure if he couldn’t guess what would happen next.
“Oh. Jaejoong. Jonghyun’s not feeling very well right now. Would you like me to leave a message for him?”
Her voice was light and uncaring, but Jaejoong knew better. . . .
“__________, no, I just-“
“He hasn’t been himself lately. I think that a vacation would be a great idea-especially with his mentor. Thanks.”
“It’s not like that-“
“Oh-Jonghyun just woke up. I have to go now. I’ll be sure to tell him that you called. Bye, Jaejoong.”
Jaejoong instantly felt like he’d been caught red-handed. All his life, he’d lived not caring about anyone else except for himself, but she’d suddenly stirred up such strong emotions of guilt and frustration in him. He was always cool-headed, calm, and composed, but now, it was as if his whole cover was blown. What should he do next? He was planning on calling her again, and seeing if they could talk, but his cell phone suddenly rang once again in his hands.
"Yubusayeo?’’
“Jaejoong. Is he coming?”
“Yes, father.”
“Are you sure of it? We have to give him treatment immediately.”
“Father-must we go to America? The hospitals in Seoul are quite decent-“
“If there were decent, then why isn’t Jonghyun healed by now?”
“He couldn’t afford the medicine. And father, Jonghyun has a degenerative disease. No matter what you do, it’s going to be impossible to heal. He’s been living with it for years, and-“
“Is that all the hope you have for your younger brother?”
“No, father, I-"
I’m such a disappointment, right?
“Jaejoong, you have everything. I’ve given you all my wealth, I’ve given you your freedom. But Jonghyun has nothing. Why don’t you smarten up a little and realize that the whole world’s not only about you? I wanted to find Jonghyun first so that I could bring him the best heath care, but ended up finding you. However, Instead of leaving, I decided to take you under my care. So you should be thankful and help me find him as soon as possible.”
“I understand.”
His father left without a word, hanging up on him. Angrily, Jaejoong grabbed a pillow from the couch and flung it on to the ground. He fell on to the couch and rubbed his head, where a throbbing headache was starting to take place. His father had always been a man dedicated to his work - he had built his medical company from scratch into what it was today. One of the most influential businessmen in Seoul, no one would ever believe how he could fix the ill and sick every single day, yet break the hearts of all the people in his family. Jaejoong remembered his mother crying, slowly spiralling into depression until she was nothing - and his father, a damn doctor, didn't even notice it. He was so taken by his his other marriage and his work that when she passed away, he swore their relationship had become so strained that his father didn't even feel anything. From the day his father left them, she’d already died. And that was why he wanted revenge. All this time, though his father had believed him to be on his side, he’d been plotting how to hurt him and Jonghyun - his damn brother.
Who knew that his revenge would backfire?
He’d done his research on Jonghyun, and knew that he had a best friend from childhood. On their first day at modeling, Jaejoong had instantly spotted her out, and knew that Jonghyun was in love with her. He laughed as he realized how easily he’d fooled everyone-he had wanted to use her. She’d fall in love with him, and that would hurt Jonghyun the most. But she wasn’t supposed to be the girl who had saved him. She wasn’t supposed to be the sweet girl in the hallway who’d shown kindness to him.
She wasn’t supposed to be the girl that he fell in love with.
