Ji Wook was in a dilemma.

Bong Hee's birthday was coming up soon and he had no idea on what to give her. Aside from giving her a physical gift, he wanted to make some special event as well; something that will make her want to cry, out of happiness of course.

He stood with his hands on his waist, clad in his pajamas and biting his lip as he trudges over and over in their bedroom. Bong Hee was still in shower and humming her favorite song, oblivious to the anxious wreck that was her husband.

Just when he was about to give up and lay flat on the bed cursing it all, Ji Wook's eyes zeroed in to her bunny stuff toy along with the other one that he won for her. He remembers seeing in a photo that she held that bunny at a very young age with her father. Suddenly having an epiphany, he grinned as he made plans to visit her mother tomorrow.

"Why are you grinning to yourself?" Bong Hee laughed as she entered the room while drying her hair.

He quickly made her sit in front of the vanity and grabbed the towel from her, gently rubbing it to dry her hair himself. "Nothing, i'm just really happy." he flashes a quick smile.

"Happy that you get to dry my hair?"

"Well, you could say that."

They both laughed in amusement as they settled to a comfortable silence with smiles evident in their faces.

.

"Ahh...that green bunny!" Young Soon exclaimed in realization to Ji Wook's explanation regarding Bong Hee's favorite stuff toy.

He had contacted her yesterday, informing her that he wanted to ask about something and his mother-in-law was more than happy to answer any of his questions. He had offerred to visit her for only a short while in Papa John's so as not to disturb her much but the older insisted that he could stay for as long as he liked.

"Yes ommeoni, i'm just really curious where she got that?" he inquired before taking a sip from his glass of juice.

"Hmm...." she rubbed her chin and had a distant look as she tried to remember Bong Hee's childhood. "If i remember correctly, she and her dad liked to go to this very small amusement park that was near our neighboorhood. There were several claw machines there and i guess her dad won it for her as a gift for her birthday."

Ji Wook's eyes lit up at the information and he excitedly asked for more. "Does that amusement park still exist?"

"it's been so long." Young Soon smiled at him, "but yeah, i think it still exists although probably not the same as before."

He held her hand in gratitude and asked for the address of the amusement park, his smile full of secrets when she asked why was he suddenly so curious of where that bunny came from. She had laughed in understanding and had a glint in her eyes as if to let him know that she was catching up with his plans and she'll keep it secret as well.

He arrived at the address written in a paper that Young Soon gave him. It took him a while to find it given that the old amusement park was somewhere hidden by a lot of trees. He stood as he observed the place with a smile. It was a very small amusement park with limited carnival rides and machines. There was a 4 seater carousel, a small fantasy dragon swinging ride, a children's ferris wheel, a trackless train ride and two claw machines at the side that were barely visible from the entrance. There were also seesaws and swings at a small area that seemed like a mini park.

The place was meant for children and obviously very old. There wasn't even many children around and they preferred playing at the small park, probably hesistant to ride at the old and rusty looking rides that were available. He approaches the claw machines and sees that only one was functioning and had plush toys inside. The other one seems to be neglected and hadn't gone any maintenance with all the rust and dust accumulating in the machine. The models were clearly old ones. Maybe it's even the same machine where Bong Hee's dad got her that bunny?

With all the technologies available in this era, it wasn't a suprise to know that children nowadays don't really play at amusement parks, especially at an old one like this. They prefer to play with their phones and tablets at home instead. The fact made him sad.

"Hello, such a rare sight to see a young man like you in this area."

Ji Wook flinched when an old man suddenly talked to him at his back. He was wearing a worn out shirt which seems to be the uniform of the place and an ID that looked very old. He suspected that the owner didn't require the old man to renew it since probably the 90s.

He turned to face him fully and bowed in greeting, "Good afternoon, are you the one taking care of this place?"

"Well yes." the old man's face lit up with a smile. "I've been taking care of this place for more than 25 years. I've seen those children who used to play here grow up into fine young adults." his smile faltered when he turned to look at the amusement park. "It's not the same anymore though, children nowadays don't like playing in parks and the income and funds are not enough to pay for maintenance." the old man sighs as he scratches the back of his head. "The government owns this place and they've been planning to close this for so long already if i hadn't stopped them....but i guess it's time to let go now. This old man needs to rest and let time develop this place into something new."

Ji Wook's heart dropped. This place is where Bong Hee spent her childhood with her father and now it was going to be gone.

"Have you changed those claw machines often throughout the years?"

The old man turned towards the direction of the machines and tilted his head. "Nope, never changed them. As you can see, one is already damaged but the other one still works. Amazing how these things survive as long as they're maintained well, don't you agree? Though no one really plays them anymore."

He nodded and smiled at the discovery.

"When are they gonna close this park?"

"At the end of this month." the old man answered with question in his eyes when he sighed in relief.

Ji Wook bit his lips as he quickly thought out a plan. Bong Hee's birthday was a few days before the end of the month. He could still arrange for some repairs to be done and plan a surprise.

.

Bong Hee couldn't help but pout as Ji Wook gasped in horror when she told him that it was her birthday today and she asked for a gift. He had exclaimed that he honestly thought it would be tomorrow so he hadn't prepared anything for today.

"Are you mad?" he was trying on his aegyo trick again but she wasn't gonna have it.

"No."

"I'm really sorry."

"It's okay, i'm not a petty person, we can celebrate tomorrow."

He bit his lip and hugged her. "Are you sure you're not mad?"

She quickly pushed him away and flipped her hair before going out of their bedroom. "Nope, i told you i'm not mad."

She didn't even notice him snicker at her back when she stomped towards the stairs.

Later that evening, she was still grumpy when he invited her out. She had expected that maybe he prepared something impromptu throughout the day?

She mentally slapped herself when she got into the car and there weren't even any flowers. Just a car. An empty car. She should've known.

Really, this namja.

She stayed silent throughout the ride and stared blankly outside the window until she slowly started noticing the roads. The places and shops they were passing by were really familiar and she couldn't help but ask even though she already planned to ignore him a while ago. "Where are we going?"

"Just....somewhere." the glint in his eyes as he drove was really suspicious and Bong Hee started to get nervous as though her body was sensing where they were going even though she wasn't really sure where.

When they arrived at a parking area, Ji Wook told her to close her eyes as he guided her to get out of the car. "What is this jagiya?"

"Shhh. Just trust me."

He gently pushed her towards the right direction and stopped somewhere really bright. Even though her eyes were closed, she could clearly see the hazy brightness at the back of her eyelids.

"Okay, now you can open your eyes."

She slowly did as he told and squinted as the lights hurted her eyes at first. When the blurriness started to focus, she instantly noticed the number of people in front of her holding balloons and popping party poppers as they all greeted together.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY URI BONG HEE!!!"

They all cheered and proceeded to sing her the birthday song as Ji Wook handed her a big bouquet of colorful roses with a huge grin on his face.

"How could i ever forget such a special day? The day when the person i love the most was born." he smiles at her affectionately and holds her hand. "Do you remember this place?"

She was so overwhelmed and her eyes were b with tears that she didn't notice the place at first. She marvels at the small amusement park, now glittered with twinkle lights everywhere. Trees surrounded the small area and provided the fresh breeze while numerous white flowers bloomed beautifully in different directions. The place seems so alive with the children's ferris wheel moving, the carousel horses circling around, the dragon boat decorated with balloons and the train ride full of colorful flowers. Her eyes noticed the claw machines that seemed to be separated at the sides, they were both so bright with colorful LED lights surrounding the edges of the machines; with their upbeat arcade tune filling her ears and seemed to entice her to go play.

Sudden nostalgia hit her hard and she covered to hold back a gasp. She slowly took a step, then another step, then another until she broke into a run towards the machines and blinked as her tears started falling. This place, this claw crane......her father..... She sobbed hard as she placed a hand on the glass and saw mini versions of her very own green clad plush toy bunnies as well as the black suited version ones and she couldn't help but laugh.

Then the memories were suddenly all so vivid in her mind. She remembers going to this park almost every weekend, riding the dragon boat over and over even though she had rode on it the week before. How her father had rode the carousel with her and they both laughed as he had difficulty riding the horse that was obviously too small for an adult like him. How he had pushed her on the swing hard enough that she thought she could reach the sky if she just stretched her hand long enough.

And of course, her favorite, when her father won the large plush toy bunny for her on one of the claw crane machines even though it costed him much coins and her mother scolded him with a laugh when they arrived home. She could remember the happy smile on his face as he greeted her,"Happy Birthday my precious and pretty daughter! Saranghae!"

It was the last birthday she spent with him and the most memorable one.

She could barely hear the happy chatter of their family and friends on the background as she cried her heart out in front of the claw machine.

"Aboeji........aboeji........." she called out as her weak voice cracked with her tears.

His arms surrounded her in a tight backhug and she gripped on his arms, the joy and anguish overwhelming all her senses.

"Happy Birthday Bong Hee-yah."

She sniffed and tried to speak with her now extremely nasal voice. "Thank you........thank you so much jagiya.......i'm very happy." she faced him and struggled to wipe away her tears with a hand since her other hand was full of flowers.

"You're welcome. Anything for you. Always." He smiles at her with so much adoration in his eyes and she wonders how she was so blessed by the heavens. She was sure her father was here with them at this moment and was happy for her as well.

"I love you." she responds with a sweet kiss.

"I love you too." he pulls her in for another chaste kiss and smiled as they heard the others cheer at them with laughter.

She beams and goes towards her crying mom, her mother-in-law, Mr. Byun, Eun Hyuk, Mr. Bang and all the others. She thanks them all and in between the hugs, she turns her head to look at her husband who was smiling at her widely from the side.

And she thinks to herself, what a wonderful world.
