Chapter 20

As I Am

A/N This chapter is dedicated to HanInYoo! Congratulations on finishing your exams and being closer to graduating!

What did you ing do to my son?!” Sanggyun yelled at Harold who seemed surprised that Jiwoo had taken off. He quickly held his hands up.

I didn’t do anything! We were just talking and he got upset out of nowhere! Your son is unstable and I think that’s your doing.” Harold was quick to put the fault on Sanggyun.

You don’t know about me or my son.” Sanggyun growled, getting ready to square up with Harold who seemed scared now of him.

Enough! Now is not the time for this! Goldewin just took off and we don’t know where he went.” Samantha exclaimed. Sanggyun quickly realized that his four-year-old son had just run off from them and could be anywhere. He didn’t even care that Samantha had called him that God awful name.

“Jiwoo! Jiwoo, come back!” Sanggyun yelled, about to push through the crowd to look for his son when Stacey stopped him.

“That won’t help. You and I go to the police while Samantha and Harold go to look for him.” Stacey instructed, trying to stay calm but she would be lying if she weren’t terrified over her missing son.

The group broke up, Stacey and Sanggyun off to the nearest police station while Harold and Samantha went to look for him.

At the police station, Sanggyun and Stacey were informing one of the police officers what had happened, showing a recent picture of Jiwoo. The police officer was trying to calm them down and assure them that everything will be okay and they’ll find the little boy. He then instructed some other police officers to go out and search for the boy, telling them to announce it over the radios so other officers on patrol could help.

“It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have gotten upset. I should’ve been more patient.” Sanggyun’s head was in his hands and he was trying very hard to not cry but with every second that passed, the harder it got.

“No, it’s mine. I should’ve have come in the first place. A part of me knew I had no reason to be upset over those pictures. I knew you were doing a great job and that Jiwoo is in better hands with you. I’m sorry, Sanggyun.” Stacey apologized, placing a hand on Sanggyun’s shoulder.

“I have no right to tell you who you can and can’t see. I’ve been dating Harold since Jiwoo was one and not once did you tell me anything.”

“I didn’t even know you were dating.”

“That’s beside the point. The point is, I lost all my rights to tell you how to live your life or how to raise Jiwoo when I abandoned him with you when he was barely a few months old.” Stacey admitted. Sanggyun was surprised by Stacey’s words and her remorse but knew that it wasn’t the time or place to comment on it.

“Let’s just agree to put Jiwoo first before anything else.” Stacey laughed sadly at this.

“You’ve been doing that already. I’m the one that needs to start.” Stacey sighed. “You should probably call your friends and let them know what’s going on. The more eyes there are, the easier it will be to find our son.” Stacey suggested. Sanggyun agreed with her and was quick to do just that. All his friends were even quicker to promise to go out and search for Jiwoo. Sanggyun was going down his contacts list when he stopped on one name. He hesitated over calling it when Stacey decided for him.

“The more eyes, the better. And she seems to really care for him and vice versa. So call it.” Sanggyun did just that but was taken to voicemail.

“She didn’t pick up.” Sanggyun sounded dejected.

“Maybe she’s busy. She’ll probably call you back when she can. We have enough people searching for Jiwoo anyways. We’ll be fine. Our son will be fine.” Stacey said. Sanggyun could only nod his head and agree with her.

Sarang and Jiwoo were still seated in the café but both were in much brighter moods. They had been laughing over a story that Jiwoo had told when Sarang realized something.

“We should probably call your appa and let him know that you’re okay. He must be worried.” Sarang said, pulling out her phone from her purse. She had heard it ringing earlier but Jiwoo had been more important than whoever she thought it could be so she had ignored it.

“Yeah. But, you’re not going to let my mom take me away, right noona?” Jiwoo hopefully asked. Sarang smiled a soft smile, running a hand through his hair.

“Of course, Jiwoo. Oh, look. Your appa called me earlier.” Sarang noticed the missed call from Sanggyun. She quickly called him back and waited for him to pick up.

Stacey and Sanggyun had been sitting in the police station for what felt like forever but had probably only been an hour at most when Sanggyun’s phone began to ring. He quickly answered it, not seeing who was calling.

“Hello?” His quickness caught Stacey’s eye who had been trying to distract herself with work on her phone. She put it down and put all her attention on Sanggyun.

“Sanggyun, it’s me. I have Jiwoo with me.” Sarang informed him, smiling at Jiwoo who had put an orange peel slice in his mouth, the peel making him smile.

“You do?! Oh, that’s great, Sarang! Where are you? Stacey and I will be there right now!” Sanggyun heard Jiwoo talking in the background, Sarang’s reply sounding muffled and the two talked for a bit before Sarang went back on the phone.

“He’s still a little shaken up from whatever upset him earlier and is asking if I can just take him somewhere, just me and him. He kind of doesn’t want to see anyone else.” Sarang meekly explained. Sanggyun couldn’t help but be heartbroken at this.

“Let me just talk to Stacey.” Sanggyun turned to the said girl who looked so hopeful.

“Who is it? Did they find Jiwoo?”

“It’s Sarang. Jiwoo is with her.” Stacey quickly stood up, relief evident in her expression.

“So? What’s the holdup? Do we go meet her or is she bringing him to us?”

“That’s the thing. Jiwoo doesn’t want to see any of us right now. He asked Sarang if he could hang out with her. She says he’s still shaken up.” Sanggyun explained. Stacey’s happiness deflated.

“Oh.” She was quiet for a moment before speaking up. “He’s okay, right?” Sanggyun nodded his head. “And…you trust her? With him?” Sanggyun nodded his head again.

“I trust her more than anything to take care of Jiwoo.” Sanggyun honestly said. He didn’t even have to think about it. He trusted Sarang with his son and that was final.

“Then it’s fine. It’ll probably be best for him to feel better first before we see him again.” Stacey relented before going over to the police officer and explain that their son had been found.

“Sarang? I’m back. That’s fine. I guess I’ll see you later.” Sanggyun said.

“Alright, Sanggyun. Do you want to talk to Jiwoo?” Sarang wondered.

“No, it’s probably best if I don’t right now. But, can you just let him know that I love him and so does his mom and that we’re sorry.” Sarang agreed to do just that and then the two hung up.

Sarang stared at her phone for a brief moment before putting it back in her purse. Jiwoo looked at her hopefully, but there was a bit of fear evident in his eyes.

“What did my appa say? Are they coming here?” Jiwoo asked. He relaxed when Sarang shook her head.

“He said that you and I can hang out. I’ll take you back to him later on, okay.” Jiwoo grinned and nodded his head, excited that he can spend time with his favorite noona.

“He also told me to tell you that he and your mom love you and that they’re sorry.” Jiwoo seemed to take this in before nodding his head.

“I love them too. Where do we go, noona?” Jiwoo was excited once more and Sarang laughed at how quick he bounced back.

“First, we need to pick up our trash and then we need to stop at a specific store then we can go and do whatever you want.”

That night, Sarang was pulling up to Sanggyun’s apartment. She looked back at Jiwoo who had fallen asleep on the drive over and she couldn’t help but smile at how peaceful he looked. Sarang carefully got him out of the car, rubbing his back when he began to stir and carried him up to the floor he lived on. She only had to wait a few seconds after knocking for the door to open and Sanggyun to appear.

“Hi.” Sarang whispered, hoping her smile looked pleasant and not at all like she needed to go to the restroom. Sanggyun smiled back before reaching to take Jiwoo from her.

“Thanks again for everything. And I’m sorry.” Sarang didn’t get a chance to question what he was sorry for because Sanggyun was going into a room to get Jiwoo ready for bed. Sarang stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to do when Taeyang appeared. She bowed slightly to him and he just grinned.

“Let me walk you to your car.” Sarang thanked him for the offer but didn’t feel it was appropriate to deny it so she just let him walk her.

“It must’ve been a weird day, huh?” Taeyang said. Sarang didn’t expect any conversation from him so she struggled to figure out her answer for a couple seconds.

“I guess. I was just more worried about Jiwoo. Whatever he needed, I was going to give to him. I just hoped I didn’t cross any boundaries.” Wow, Sarang, why not just give him an MLA format of that answer, she thought to herself.

“Thank you for being there for him. I have never wanted to beat my brother as much as I did when he told me that Jiwoo had run off while he was arguing with Stacey. As much as I hate her and wished my brother had stood his ground more when it came to dealing with her, there is a time and place for everything.”

“He’s probably beating himself over it enough. Where is Stacey, anyways? I would assume she would be here to see Jiwoo after today’s scare.” Sarang had been a bit surprised that she hadn’t been there to fight her when Sanggyun opened the door.

“She actually did something right and decided it would be best if she wasn’t here when you brought Jiwoo. She said she’ll talk to Jiwoo tomorrow before she leaves back with her boyfriend and sister.” Taeyang explained.

“So is it safe to say that Jiwoo is staying with his dad?” Taeyang shrugged his shoulders.

“Who knows with her, really. Let’s just hope. Anyways, thank you for everything.” The two stopped at Sarang’s car.

“Of course. I just want Jiwoo to be okay.” Taeyang smiled at this but then something in her car caught his eye.

“Is it a rich person thing to have a child’s car seat in their cars or…?” Sarang looked back at what he was referring too and wanted to laugh.

“No, it isn’t a rich person thing. I mean, I would hope it was a thing that all parents and just people dealing with kids did. No, I went to the store with Jiwoo right before we went on our little trip and bought a car seat for him. Do you guys want it?” Sarang wondered. Taeyang held his hands up and shook his head.

“We have one already, but thanks. Keep it. Seeing how things are going, you might need it again. Get home safe.” Taeyang walked back towards the apartment while Sarang went to get in her car but Taeyang called out to her again so she stopped.

“I know my brother is trying to focus on just raising Jiwoo and everything but I hope he’s smart enough to work on keeping you in his life and doesn’t push you away. You’re good people, Sarang.” And with that, Taeyang was going back into the apartment, leaving Sarang to think about his words.

She sat in her car for a few moments, pondering over everything that has happened. Taeyang believed that she was good people. Either he really didn’t know who she was in the eyes of the media or he just didn’t care. Jiwoo thought she was a good person too and so did Sanggyun so why was she feeling so nauseated over that thought?

“Jiwoo, give me a hug.” Stacey squatted down so she could give her son a proper hug before having to board her plane. Harold and Samantha stood off to the side.

“Be good and listen to your dad and uncle, okay.” Stacey said as she hugged her son tight, trying to ignore the fact that his hug was a bit limp.

“I will, mom.” Jiwoo promised. Stacey held him by the shoulders, examining his face before sighing.

“Jiwoo, I love you. You know that mommy loves you so much and just wants you to be happy. You’re so smart and I’m so proud of you. Even if I don’t say much, I really do love you.” Jiwoo nodded his head and this time initiated a hug with Stacey who held him tight.

“I’ll try and call more, okay. And I’ll try and visit more too but without Harold and your aunt Samantha.” Jiwoo couldn’t help but smile at this and just hugged his mom tighter.

“Okay, mom. I love you too.” Jiwoo told her. Stacey gives him a kiss on the cheek before instructing him to wait with Taeyang—who was forced by Sanggyun to go with them to the airport. She walked to Sanggyun who hadn’t said a word since they got there. They stared at each other for a moment before Stacey held a hang out to him, expecting a handshake. Sanggyun scoffed and rolled his eyes before pulling her into a hug.

“Stop being such a damn ice queen.” Sanggyun said, breaking the hug after a couple seconds. Stacey just rolled her eyes at his comment.

“I promise to try and stop being such a pain in the . You’re doing an amazing job with Jiwoo, Sanggyun and I should tell you that more. I’m sorry I’ve made your life such a living hell. I’ll do my best to make your job raising Jiwoo a lot easier.” Stacey vowed. Sanggyun just smiled a small smile.

“Just be there for him more. He deserves to have a mom too.” The two gave each other one last hug before Stacey had to go with her sister and boyfriend to get on the plane.

Meanwhile across town, Dongsung stood in Aera’s office, head down as he waited for her to speak.

“So, any more news on my hassle of a granddaughter?” Aera’s frowned deepened when Dongsung didn’t say anything.

“Answer me, Kim Dongsung!” She snapped. Dongsung flinched before speaking up.

“I’m not telling you anything.” He quietly said but still loud enough for Aera to hear.

“What? Did I hear you correctly? You’re not going to tell me anything?” Dongsung finally worked up the courage to lift his head and look at Aera.

“I’m not playing your spy anymore. I don’t work for you, I work for Sungwoo and Jiho. You have no power compared to them.” Dongsung flinched back when Aera slammed her palms down onto her desk.

“No power? Do you not remember who has access to the very hospital that your mother is getting treatment at?” Dongsung paled at this and Aera couldn’t help but smile.

“Do you not remember how sick those bastards of my grandchildren got when they were kids? You should remember since you were by your mother’s side when she worked day and night, trying to get those degenerates healthy again only to have to admit them to a hospital. Now if I could do that to my own blood, what makes you think I won’t do even worse to someone who’s not even related to me.” Aera got pleasure just seeing the fear evident in Dongung’s eyes.

“Now are you going to be a good boy and tell me?”

A/N Not going to lie, calling them 'bastards' made me laugh because technically, I'm a bastard child just like the Shin siblings. They were born out of wedlock and so was I. I was literally at my parents' court wedding and then at their church wedding when I was two xD Anyways, that's a little history from me! Comments make my day!

Chapter 26: Omo omo omo! You mess with Sarang, you mess with ALL her high class friends !!! Rather than Sarang wanting attention, it is that who wants attention... ppfft... I love Sarang's friends and brother ♡

Thanks for the update!!! I was waiting for it and now worries! Take a break if you need^^ I'll be here if you need me!!! Oh and something for you to note. Please either have two spaces or lines when it's the next scene cause it's confusing when it's only one enter. I was happily reading Sanggyun and Sarang then suddenly the scene change and there was no big difference of change and end up I need to read like twice or thrice to notice that it was a change of scene ^^||
