Chapter 17

As I Am

A/N An update in honor of my birthday! The next chapter is currently in the works and I wanted to post that one today and have this one up earlier but it wasn't finished in time. But guess who is no longer a teen? Me! Just one more year until I can buy wine on my own. But anyways, hope you all enjoy this chapter!

“What the hell?” Sanggyun muttered as his Skype call went unanswered for the fifth time.

“Did she answer?” Jiwoo asked as he walked left the table where he had just finished eating his lunch. Sanggyun sighed as he pulled Jiwoo into his lap, the boy quickly snuggling into this dad’s hold.

“No, she didn’t answer. I’m sorry, Jiwoo.” Jiwoo merely shrugged his shoulders, seeming unbothered by the fact that his mom didn’t answer.

“It’s okay, appa. Can I call Sarang noona? I haven’t talked to her in forever.” Jiwoo wondered. Sanggyun couldn’t help but chuckle. The last time Jiwoo talked to Stacey was over a month ago since the last time Stacey called, Jiwoo hadn’t been present but it’s been only a few days since Jiwoo last talked to Sarang.

“We’ll see, okay. Now go see if uncle Taeyang will help you wash your face. I need to get your bag ready for when Sangdo hyung comes, okay.” Sanggyun instructed, helping his son stand up. The little boy hurried off to where he knew his uncle was. Both Taeyang and Sanggyun will be working late but Taeyang was getting off of work before Sanggyun so while to two worked, Sangdo was going to have Jiwoo at his house. Taeyang would pick him up on his way home since Sangdo had to work early the next day.

Sangdo got to the apartment just an hour before Sanggyun had to leave for work, Taeyang having left a little while ago. Jiwoo was happy to see his hyung and even more happy to be able to go to his house and just hang out with him.

“Jiwoo, I’ll see you tomorrow. Uncle is going to pick you up, okay and listen to Sangdo hyung. I love you.” Sanggyun hugged his son and gave him a kiss on the head before thanking Sangdo again for babysitting his son.

Sanggyun got to the club he was bartending at and clocked in, greeting some of his co-workers as he made his way to the lockers where the employees kept their things. He headed back to the bar so he could help clean up and get it ready for the night.

“What’s up, Sanggyun.” Sanggyun looked over from the glasses he was organizing and grinned at the girl approaching the bar.

“What’s up, Ailsa. How’ve you been?” Sanggyun grinned, the two exchanging a high-five and knuckle bump once the girl was sat on the bar stool.

“Good. Tired. College is a and work takes my sleep but it’s whatever I guess. You?” Ailsa and Sanggyun were the same age and had gone to the same school and got along but were merely acquaintances. They formed a friendship when Sanggyun started working at the club that Ailsa’s uncle owned and that she would DJ at every weekend. The two didn’t hang out often outside of work but always made sure to talk when they saw each other at work.

“I don’t know what college is like but work takes my sleep. And free time. And I can’t spend as much time with my son as I would like.” Sanggyun shrugged. Their conversations could get real but the two had a habit of sounding nonchalant about it. Sanggyun picked up that habit from Ailsa. It used to throw him off at first, if he was being honest.

“Damn, that ing . But hey, you’re doing great if you ask me. Jiwoo is lucky to have a dad like you. So anything else going on?” Ailsa wondered.

“Uh, well, girl problems?” Ailsa raised her brows, nodding at the other bartender that handed her a water bottle before opening it and taking a quick sip.

“Why do you sound unsure? If it's a problem, it's a problem.” Ailsa said.

“I’m not sure if she herself is a problem.” Sanggyun explained.

“Well, what is it that is giving you problems? Why are you unsure of the girl being a problem?” Ailsa wondered.

“It’s because she is literally amazing. She’s great with Jiwoo, like, Jiwoo absolutely loves her. She drops everything just to talk to him and she’s so nice and even my hyung likes her.” Sanggyun gushed.

“Okay. So what the hell is the issue? You seem to like her. Your son likes her. What’s going on?”

“Do you remember our second year of high school, when that one first year came in?” Ailsa gave him a blank look before sighing.

“You’re going to need to be more specific than that. A lot of first years came in when we were second years.” Ailsa deadpanned.

“Okay but do you remember Shin Sarang? She was a first year when we were second years and she left when we were third years.” Sanggyun explained. Ailsa seemed to be trying to remember said girl before shrugging and shaking her head.

Imma keep it real with you chief” Pause “” Sanggyun laughed at this, thankful for his English. “No but seriously, we’ve talked about how secluded I was during high school. If my brother wasn’t friends with them or they weren’t in my class, then I had no idea who the they were. So Shin Sarang is the girl that you have ‘problems’ with?” Ailsa wondered.

“Well, not necessarily her but who she is.” Sanggyun explained. Ailsa quirked a brow before taking note of the wall clock.

“We’ll discuss this with more detail later but right now, I need to go through my set list. See you.” Ailsa hopped off the barstool with her water bottle and headed towards the DJ booth.

Later on, when the club was filled with people, music loud and lights low, Sanggyun saw Ailsa again. But because of the noise and how busy he was, the two weren’t able to have a serious conversation so the two had to settle on meeting up later for lunch or something to discuss everything. And Ailsa was also pulled away by her uncle and another club worker because someone wanted to meet her. Sanggyun was surprised and happy to see Sarang again. He wanted to talk more with her but because he was working and Sarang seemed like she was in a hurry to get back to where she was sitting so they couldn’t talk much. But as soon as she left, their encounter had to go to the very back of his mind and he had to focus on making the drinks as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

“Text me some time during the week or something so we can talk and .” Ailsa told him as the two got ready to leave.

“I will. Get home safe, okay.” Sanggyun instructed, giving the very short girl a quick hug. His son will a hundred percent pass her up in height in a couple of years, maybe quicker.

“For sure. See you. Say hi to your kid and hyung for me.” Ailsa said before leaving the building.

Sanggyun left soon after, dreading having to walk to the bus stop. As he was about to start his small trek to the bus stop, someone calling his name caught his attention and after a brief moment, he recognized it as Sarang. He headed over to talk to her and ended up getting a ride from her to his apartment. During the drive, Sanggyun finally worked up the courage to ask her in to talk. While he had been working, he had been thinking everything over. And he came to the conclusion that having Sarang present in his life, and his son’s, wouldn’t be bad. And when Sarang agreed to go inside and talk to him, Sanggyun felt like he was on cloud nine. And he kept that feeling up until he got a phone call from his hyung.

“Sanggyun, are you on your way back?” Instead of a greeting, that’s what Taeyang said as soon as Sanggyun answered.

“Yeah. Is everything okay?” Sanggyun wondered, a feeling of dread growing. He could’ve sworn he heard other voices in the background.

“No. Everything is not okay. You need to get here as soon as possible.” Taeyang insisted.

“Why? What happened? Where’s Jiwoo?” Sanggyun began to grow frantic, fearing the worst.

“Jiwoo is in the bedroom, asleep but Stacey is here with her sister and some guy.” Taeyang hissed.

“Are you kidding me?! Okay, I just got here. I’ll be right up!” Sanggyun didn’t even have time to feel bad about cancelling on Sarang, merely thanking her for the ride before hurrying out the car and into the apartment complex. He didn’t even wait for the elevator, instead sprinting up the stairs as fast as he could until he got to his floor.

Sanggyun fished his keys out of his pocket, fumbling to unlock and open the door. He was feeling a mixture of shock and anger when he opened the door and saw the mother of his son, her sister, and some stranger sitting in his apartment.

What the are you doing here?” Sanggyun hissed, not even bothering to sound polite.

Funny. Your brother asked the exact same thing when we showed up.” Stacey mused. She stood up and walked over to Sanggyun who couldn’t help but feel a bit intimidated. Stacey came from tall parents meaning her height was around the same as his and Sanggyun wasn’t used to that when it came to girls.

I want to see my son. Actually, I’m thinking of taking him back with me.

Chapter 26: Omo omo omo! You mess with Sarang, you mess with ALL her high class friends !!! Rather than Sarang wanting attention, it is that who wants attention... ppfft... I love Sarang's friends and brother ♡

Thanks for the update!!! I was waiting for it and now worries! Take a break if you need^^ I'll be here if you need me!!! Oh and something for you to note. Please either have two spaces or lines when it's the next scene cause it's confusing when it's only one enter. I was happily reading Sanggyun and Sarang then suddenly the scene change and there was no big difference of change and end up I need to read like twice or thrice to notice that it was a change of scene ^^||
