Chapter 16

As I Am

A/N Sorry if there's confusion with the title. The old title was kind of on the whim and just so I could have something to publish it with but I found something that I feel suits better with the story. The parenthesis in the title will be gone with the next update, it's just so you all know what story this is.

Saturday came and all Sarang did was sit in her apartment until it came to a time that she decided was a good time to start getting ready. She had been sitting at her vanity in her room when she heard the door open and Minsung came in with his loud greeting. Sarang merely made a noise loud enough for Minsung to hear so he knew that she was in her room.

“Ready to-why are you barely getting ready?” Sarang merely shrugged as she did her makeup, obviously in no rush. She was merely in her robe, her hair still not done and no outfit laying on her bed.

Minsung merely scoffed before going straight to Sarang’s closet to find an outfit. As soon as that was done, he went to her bathroom and grabbed her hair straightener. “Did you put in heat protectant?” Minsung wondered.

“Yep.” Minsung plugged in the straightener to an outlet that was in the vanity and he got to work on straightening Sarang’s hair while she did her makeup.

“I got that white, mini strapless dress with red pumps. Wear gold accessories.” Minsung instructed. As soon as Sarang finished her makeup and Minsung finished her hair, Sarang went to get dressed.

“Perfect! Let’s go!” Minsung cheered, grabbing Sarang’s hand and the two leaving her apartment hand in hand. They rode the elevator down to the parking garage like that, taking selfies occasionally and one mirror selfie in the elevator.

At the club, Sarang and Minsung were escorted to the V.I.P section where the two waited for the rest of their group before beginning the night.

“Noona!” Minsung happily cheered when he saw Rhythm’s head appear before the rest of her body as she made her way up the stairs with one of the club’s bouncers escorting her.

“How do they know each other?” Sehyuk asked Sarang as he watched his little brother hug the foreign stranger.

“Long story.” Was all Sarang said.

“Well she definitely is something.” Sehyuk said as he eyed the girl.

“She already has her eyes on someone else, oppa. And she is not the type to budge.” Sarang deadpanned, giving Sehyuk a look as if to say ‘try it. Bet.’

“Alright, alright. I won’t try anything. But I won’t be rude. Hi I’m Park Sehyuk, Minsung’s hyung.” Sehyuk stood up to introduce himself to Rhythm who introduced herself as well.

“Our sister will be back in a bit. She went to go greet some friends.” Sehyuk told her. “Sit down. Can I get you something to drink?” Sehyuk asked.

“Not right now but thank you.” Rhythm politely declined before being pulled into a conversation with Minsung who was excited to see his angel noona again. While they talked, Sehyuk and Sarang continued to talk and catch up.

“More people should be showing up.” Sarang told Sehyuk.

“Hopefully girls that I can actually work my magic on.” Sarang rolled her eyes as she shook her head.

“Nope. The only girls are me, eonni, and Rhythm. Sorry not sorry, oppa.” Sarang smirked.

“You’re evil.” Was all Sehyuk said before him and Sarang stood up to greet Yooncheol and Jiho. The two were introduced to Rhythm and Se Hee finally came back up into their section. She introduced herself to Rhythm before greeting the Shin boys.

“Who else did you say was coming?” Se Hee asked Sarang as the two girls talked.

“Some friends of Minsung and I. They both just texted that they were on their way. You might know one, eonni. Do you remember Byungjoo?” Se Hee giggled at the memories of the loud boy who attended the same dance studio as Minsung and became a model thanks to their mom.

“How could I forget? And the other one?” Se Hee wondered.

“You don’t know him but he’s nice.” Se Hee nodded her head, a bit of mocking awe on her face and Sarang knew right away what she was going to say.

“Making more friends now, Sarang? First that waiter from the dinner and now you’re inviting us to clubs. Who are you and what have you done with the baby Shin?” Sarang couldn’t help but laugh at this.

“Ha-ha, very funny.” Sarang sarcastically said.

The group continued to talk and unwind in the V.I.P room when the last two members of their small party finally arrived. Byungjoo and Hojoon were both greeted happily by Sarang and Minsung. While Byungjoo went around saying hi to the familiar faces (even Rhythm who he has worked with on a few occasions) Hojoon had to be introduced. He was welcomed with open arms, especially when Jiho found out he worked at his sister’s favorite café.

“When she was living abroad, most of our conversations consisted of her complaining about how she didn’t have access to the café.” Jiho laughed, only to get slapped on the arm by Sarang.

After they all had some time to talk and unwind and catch up, they were finally ready to get drinks and let loose. Sehyuk ordered them all a round of shots—Sarang simply sipped hers—and then they were all on their way to the crowded dance floor.

“Hey, this DJ is ing amazing!” Jiho yelled to his sister. Sarang nodded her head in agreement. It took a lot for her to dance at a club and this DJ was easily making her just want to dance the night away.

“Hyung! Don’t you think the DJ is amazing?” Jiho got Yooncheol’s attention—he had been dragged to the dance floor against his will.

“Yeah. They’re actually really good.” Yooncheol said.

“You should see about working with them.” Sarang yelled. Yooncheol crinkled his brows, having a difficult time hearing what she said.

“What?” Sarang repeated herself, a bit louder and enunciating her words more this time. Again, Yooncheol didn’t quite catch what she said.

“Huh?!” Sarang let out a sigh before grabbing her brother, pulling his head close to her and yelling into his ear what she had been trying to say. “Ohhh! Yeah! You’re right!”

The night went with ease, Sarang enjoying time with the ones she liked to call friends. It had worked to get her mind off of Jiwoo, Sanggyun, and her grandmother. When the current DJ finished their set, the group decided it was time to go and take a break. They went back up to the V.I.P section to cool off and rest.

“Excuse me, can you bring up the DJ that just finished playing? My brother wants to talk to them.” Jiho asked the waitress that had brought a few of them some drinks.

“No I don’t! What?!” Yooncheol exclaimed.

“Calm down, oppa. Just talk to them. You might get a new friend or something.” Sarang said before standing up. “I’m going to the bar.” She told her brothers before leaving their section and walking around the crowded dance floor to get herself something to drink.

When Sarang got to the bar, she found a familiar face talking to a girl that wasn’t familiar to her at all. Sarang tried to push down the feeling of jealousy as she saw Sanggyun standing behind the bar in a bartender uniform, talking and laughing with a girl that sat on the other side. As the two talked, Sanggyun would make drinks and hand them to the customers or other bartenders who would pass them out. Sarang couldn’t hear what they were saying over all the noise but from their body language, she could tell that they knew each other. As she tried to get closer, the waitress from earlier approached the girl, an older man with her and after a brief conversation, the girl was hopping off the bar stool and following the waitress and older man, Sanggyun waving at them.

“Sarang! What are you doing here?” Sarang finally got to the bar and the only open space had been where the other girl previously was.

“Hello, Sanggyun. I didn’t know you worked here.” Sarang simply said, trying not to blush at Sanggyun’s grin.

“Yeah. This is one of the jobs I have. You gotta do what you gotta do when you’re a single dad. What can I get you?” Sanggyun wondered.

“Uh, just a water is fine. So, how have you been? How’s your brother and Jiwoo?” Sarang asked as Sanggyun fished a water bottle out from under the bar.

“I’m good. And so is Jiwoo and my hyung. We’re all good.” Sanggyun smiled as he handed her the water, taking the couple of bills that Sarang handed him.

“That’s good to hear. Well uh, it was good to see you again. Thanks for the water.” Sarang said, trying not to sound or feel neither awkward or sad. She put a few more bills in the tip jar before walking away. So much for her night of letting loose.

When Sarang got back to the V.I.P section, she found her friends had gone back to the dance floor, leaving just her brothers. Jiho looked upset while Yooncheol seemed awestruck.

“What did I miss?” Sarang asked them.

“The DJ we got hyped about is a short, mean girl and I don’t like her anymore.” Jiho stated, crossing his arms over his chest.

“I feel like there is more to this but okay.” Sarang sat down, her eyebrow raised

“I’ll explain everything.” Yooncheol said, still a bit in awe.

“Who wants to meet Alias?” The owner of the club had come up to their section with the waitress and a very short girl. The short girl seemed as if she couldn’t care less about being brought up to them and in fact, seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but there.

“Uh, I did?” Yooncheol slowly raised his hand.

“Dang you’re short. What are you, like 12?” Jiho said.

“What are you, like partying with your daddy’s money?” ‘Alias’ quipped. It gave everyone looks of shock before a few of them began to snicker. “Sorry, that was mean.” Alias apologized but her tone and facial expression made it hard to tell if she was sincere or not.

“It’s fine. Uh, your set was great.” Yooncheol decided to take Alias’ attention from his brother back to himself, to save his brother anymore embarrassment.

“Yeah, if you like short sets.” Jiho muttered. “Jiho!” Yooncheol hissed.

“It’s fine.” Alias assured before turning to Jiho. “Yes, I’m short. I’m 4’5 if you want details but if you think your cute little short jokes are going to annoy me, you’re wrong. I grew up with brothers and kids in school are mean. Now if you mind, your friend is trying to talk to me so take your jokes to the school yard where you’ll get a bigger reaction out of kids taller than me than you’ll get out of me.”

“Oh damn.” Someone could be heard muttering.

“Why don’t we give them some privacy?” Hojoon loudly suggested before grabbing Rhythm’s hand and pulling her down the stairs, the rest of their group deciding to follow. Jiho on the other hand stayed seated, mouth agape before scowling and turning so his back was to his brother and Alias.

“I’m so sorry for him. Ignore him. Our dad always said he was on the more special side. But your set was really great. I’m a DJ too and I would love to collaborate with you.” Yooncheol said.

“Thank you. And that sounds great.” Alias simply said, reaching in her back pocket for her phone. “Let me get your number and we can see when would be a good time to meet up and talk. I didn’t get your name by the way.” Alias said as she handed her now unlocked phone to Yooncheol.

“My name for music is Kinda but my real name is Yooncheol.” Yooncheol handed her phone back.

“Well my real name is Ailsa. It was nice meeting you, Yooncheol. And your brother too, when he’s quiet.” Yooncheol couldn’t help but chuckle at this while Jiho merely scoffed. The two said ‘bye’ before Ailsa finally left, being escorted by the owner of the club.

“She sounds great and I would love to meet her.” Sarang said with a small smile, mainly because Jiho’s reactions were hilarious.

“She just texted me, saying who she was and so I had her number.” Yooncheol smiled.

Later, when the club was beginning to die down, the group was making their way out of the club to leave.

“You sure you don’t want to come with us, Sarang?” Rhythm asked as her, Minsung, Byungjoo, and Hojoon waited for a taxi.

“I’m fine. I’m really tired and not that hungry. You guys go and have fun.” Sarang assured. The group of four said their goodbyes to her before getting in the taxi that finally arrived.

“It was fun, Sarang. We’ll see you later.” Se Hee said as her and Sehyuk got in Sehyuk’s car. Se Hee gave Sarang a brief hug, Sehyuk giving her one as well before the siblings got Sehyuk’s car and left.

Sarang was about to get into her own car when she saw Sanggyun exit the club. Before she knew what she was doing, she was calling out to Sanggyun. The boy looked confused for a second before realization dawned on him and he was giving her a brief wave and smile before jogging over to her.

“Hey, Sarang! I didn’t know you were still here.” Sarang smiled a shy smile.

“Uh, yeah. Do you need a ride?” Sarang asked, pointing to her car. Sanggyun tried to decline to offer but when Sarang mentioned that he would probably get home to Jiwoo quicker if he accepted, he relented.

“So how have you been? I didn’t get to ask you earlier.” Sanggyun asked as Sarang drove.

“Um, good. Just busy with work and stuff. You know how it is.” Sarang said, trying to sound cool but instead she just internally rolled her eyes at how fake she sounded. She was grateful when Sanggyun laughed.

“Yeah, I know how it is. How’s Minsung hyung doing?”

“He’s good too. He has a fashion show coming up so he’s been busy designing and stuff.” Sarang explained.

And after that, their conversation ended and the two just drove in silence. Sarang wanted to bring up what Sanggyun told her after their outing was made public but she didn’t want to rush anything. At the same time though, Sarang wanted the internal agony to be put to rest.

“Uh, Sarang. I was wondering if you wanted to come up for a bit when we get to my place.” If Sarang had been drinking something, she would’ve spat it out but thankfully, she wasn’t.

“Sure! I mean, sure.” Sarang quickly backtracked so she didn’t sound too eager. Sanggyun grinned though.

“Great. It’s been a while since we’ve talked and-oh, sorry.” Sanggyun cut himself off when his phone began to ring. Sarang assured him it was fine and he quickly answered his phone.

“Hey hyung, what’s up?” After being told what was going on, Sanggyun became frantic, scaring Sarang. Sanggyun finally hung up once they pulled up to his apartment complex.

“Is everything okay?” Sarang wondered, thinking the worst has happened and Jiwoo was hurt.

“I’m sorry, Sarang. We’ll have to cancel. I have something I need to take care and it’s best if you weren’t there. Thank you so much for the ride. Get home safe.” Sanggyun quickly said, not giving Sarang a chance to speak or giving her an answer to her question. It threw Sarang off guard and all she could do was give him an awkward wave as he flung the car door open and hurried out. He slammed the door behind him and ran into the apartment complex, leaving Sarang in the dust.

A/N So if you read any of the family aus that Rani and I have done, Ailsa would be a familiar character. The family aus aren't in the same au as this and Ailsa's age has been bumped up since technically, she is younger than Sarang by 2 years meaning she wouldn't be working in a club just yet. But yeah. I hope you enjoyed this chapter! It seemed a bit of a filler and I apologize for that.

Chapter 26: Omo omo omo! You mess with Sarang, you mess with ALL her high class friends !!! Rather than Sarang wanting attention, it is that who wants attention... ppfft... I love Sarang's friends and brother ♡

Thanks for the update!!! I was waiting for it and now worries! Take a break if you need^^ I'll be here if you need me!!! Oh and something for you to note. Please either have two spaces or lines when it's the next scene cause it's confusing when it's only one enter. I was happily reading Sanggyun and Sarang then suddenly the scene change and there was no big difference of change and end up I need to read like twice or thrice to notice that it was a change of scene ^^||
