GOING CRAZY

Masquerade of the Fallen Angels

There were days like this for Sunggyu, to feel down with no specific reason. His thoughts would be eating him after every nightmare and he'd start avoiding any contact with people.
His mother always said that it had to do with his previous depression and she found a way to make him feel better. She'd take a day off work and would spend it with him, take him anywhere and they'd do things together, especially talking.
But his mother was away from him and his mind was doing that damned trick on him again. He blamed it all on the accumulative unpleasant encounters he had in the last few days and his health.

He hated showing his tears to anyone, and out of all people, Eunji had to see them. He ran away at first, but her mere presence and her comforting touches made all his guards fall and he broke up in her hold.

After much insisting from her, he agreed to skip school the next day and stay at home, although he knew it would only add to his bad mood. And he was right. So he resoluted to the second alternative that was kind of helpful to distract him and make him feel lighter. Writing lyrics.
He spent most of the day pouring everything he felt into words. He knew most of them will end up in the trash, but he didn't mind, as long as it kept his brain busy.

The result was quiet satitfying though, could make a beautiful sad love song. He decided on keeping the draft along side with his previous self composed songs. He'll maybe complete it later.

He might have been too engrossed in what he was doing, he forgot to check his phone. No wonder he had more than twenty missed calls and dozens of messages from his friends.
Sungyeol was just complaining about how bored he was. Krystal, being the sweet girl she is, kept asking about his health.
Bora's texts were mainly threatening with a lot of sarcasm in them. While Myungsoo just wished him a good recovery and told him how envious he was and how much he wished he was sleeping in his bed too.

'Myungsoo...' Sunggyu couldn't help but feel bad about Myungsoo again. The boy was too nice and sweet, he didn't deserve to suffer that much.

'That jerk Hoya... I swear...' His hate for the guy just doubled after he discovered the truth about him.

His mood changed three hundred sixty degrees at Eunji texts, they were extremely endearing.

From: Eunji <3

'Yah! Sleeping?'

'Aren't you going to answer?'

'I'll assume you'e just sleeping.'

'Isn't time to wake up?'

'Are you hibernating?'

'Did you eat? Don't forget to take your meds!'

'Wahhh! Everyone is asking about you. I didn't know you were this famous!'

'One question: If I kill Sungyeol, would you miss him?'

'Was school always this boring?'

'Okay, that's it. If you don't answer this time I'm coming to you!'

Sunggyu chuckled imagining the annoyed and angry expression she'd be having right then. He quickly started replying to her texts, afraid she'd come, or worse, she'd actually strangle Sungyeol.

To: Eunji <3

'I wasn't sleeping, I just didn't check my phone, Sorryyy >.<'

'I'm about to eat and I'll take my meds after. '

'Of course I'm famous! I even have a fan club by now!'

'I don't think I would miss him, but he comes in handy sometimes so just let him be, please...'

'Just admit it! You miss me ;)'

Her replies came not long after, if not immediately.

From: Eunji <3

'Finally! At least you're alive!'

'I don't know about the fanclub, but I'm sure you have an anti fan club :p'

'Okay, I'll let him be this time.'

The last message made a smile creep to his lips, probably the first one he had that day.

'I won't deny it. I miss you. A lot.'

He typed an 'I miss you too' then he pressed send.

The sweet smile didn't last long though, his mind replaying the last days events for the umpteenth time that day. Everything new he discovered about Eunji, everything he experienced in those few days. It was way too much and it's still a mystery how she managed to live like that for those years. It  made him feel useless.

'If I only showed up earlier in her life.' he thought.

Again, Sunggyu started overthinking and his brain drifted to the wrong path. But he knew he needed to control those thoughts so he busied himself with anything that comes in hand.

When nothing worked for averting his attention more than five minutes, he decided to call his mother.

She would be probably still sleeping by then, considering the difference in time. But sometimes she'd be having overnight shifts so he tried his chance.

Hopefully she answered few rings after. He recognized the background as her office at the hospital. She looked quite tired, but her smile was radiating throughout the screen and it made him feel lots better.

Talking with his mother was one of his favorite activities and his best stress reliever. He told her about everything, almost. From his sickness to him skipping school to his friends pestering him and of course, his new relationship, which surprised her.

“This is your first time dating, right? You must really like her!” she wiggled her eyebrows playfully at him.

“Mom, seriously, stop, it doesn't suit your age. You're too old and I don't believe I just told you this!” he tried acting haughty but it only made her chuckle.

“I don't think it's just like. I never felt like this before.” he regained his serious expression. “But I'm afraid of hurting and getting hurt.”

“Isn't that what love is about though?” his mother smiled fondly at him.
“You always ask me why I'm still on good terms with your father? I think you'll know the answer after getting in and out of a relationship. I never once regretted the time I spent loving him, because the beautiful memories that remained made it worth it. It's true, I was hurt and pained, but at some point I was beyond happy. That's how life is. Never let fear of getting hurt get in your way, dear, never.”  his mother answer made all his worries disappear and he wondered why he didn't call her sooner.

But another bad thought surfaced in his mind and he let the question slip out of his mouth without second thought.

“Did you ever see me as evil before? Like you just hated me and wished I never was born?” he regretted asking that right away when he saw the hurt look in her face. His mother's love was too sincere and she didn't deserve being doubted about it.

“Sunggyu why would you ask that? What happened seriou-” she stopped mid-sentence when she realized something. “Sunggyu are you having that... That nightmare again?” she asked hesitantly.

He just nodded, mumbling a low apology.

“I'm so stupid how didn't I see that!” she held her head between her hands.
“Listen Sunggyu, I'd say this for once and you should keep it in your mind. You are one of the most beautiful things that ever happened in my life. I can never imagine how life could've been without you. You're the most precious person for me and I never ever had that thought even crossing in my mind. What mother would think of her mother as evil for god's sake!”

'I know right! That fortune teller is just playing tricks on me!' he thought, trying so hard to convince himself.

“If you only saw how much I waited to hold you between my arms. Those three months were pure torture for us! I'm so sorry I can't be with you right now, but please don't let those thoughts take over you. Promise me?”

“I promise, mom.”

“Good. Anything else bothering you? You better not hide anything from me!” she warned him.

“That's it, really. I feel much better now. Thank you mom.” he smiled reassuringly.

“Ah, the thing you asked me about last time, I took care of it. Tell your friend not to worry anymore.”

Sunggyu's eyes lightened up. “Thanks mom! You're the best.”

“Have I ever told you that you're a real angel?!” she looked at him proudly.

“I'm taking after you of course.” he grinned back.

After the long talk she had with her son, Lee Misook hanged up with a heavy sigh. Sunggyu being all alone in a different continent without her, concerned her a lot. Especially after he asked her such a question.

She took the framed picture on her desk and started caressing its surface, hoping she'll feel some warmth from it. But it was just cold.
The sight of the two grinning little boys by her side in the picture made all the beautiful and even painful memories came back to life. She knew she'll never smile as widely and sincerely as she was in that picture. The day her son died, she felt like a part of her died, but she had to be strong, because of Sunggyu, because her ex-husband wasn't able to be there for his second son, while the latter was breaking down in front of them.

And she succeeded in bringing back glimpse of the kid Sunggyu on her own. But the trauma was too strong and behind all those smiles and kind words, Sunggyu was burying himself in his dark thoughts. The depression warned to kick in at any moments and she had to prevent that from happening.

She almost lost him once and she couldn't afford to lose him again.

27th April 1991

Lee Misook was having her usual walk with her son around the now familiar farm. She was 8 months pregnant and the doctor told her that walking would make her delivery much easier. It's not that she didn't know it, she was  a doctor after all.

“How was your day honey?”

She was holding Mingyu's hand in hers, swaying them.

“Like usual. The school was boring too. I miss my old school!” he whined, and she rolled her eyes.

“We talked about this before, darling. We'll go back when your doctor allows it, okay?”

“But I'm too much better now, and I don't have seizures anymore.”

“An extra month won't hurt. I bet you'll miss this beautiful place when we get back to the city.” she beamed at him.

“No, I won't. It's too green and plain.” he kicked the dirt on the ground, staining his boots even more.

She just sighed at her son's sulky behavior. She couldn't blame him. She was bored too, but she was doing it for his sake.

About a few months ago, his health worsened and he was on the edge of death several times. His doctor advised them to take him away from the city, saying that clean air and peace would make him better. So she didn't hesitate to take a leave from work and move temporarily to a rural area. Her husband couldn't come with them though. He was too busy with work and wasn't one to live in such an excluded village. Her mother-in-law opposed the idea at first, she was pregnant after all and she needed to be taken care of. But soon gave up seeing that they didn't have any other choice.

Ninjas health worsening was fully related to her pregnancy after all.
He was very hurt when he heard the news, throwing a fit and saying hurtful things to her like 'You don't love me anymore!' and 'You already want to replace me even before I'm dead!'.

His words stabbed through her heart and made her cry many times. But being the sweet kid he was, he apologized for saying those words whenever he had the chance and gradually started accepting the fact of having a sibling.

“I want a sister.” he said one day.

“A sister? Why?” she asked, amused.

“I don't know.” he shrugged his shoulders. “Sisters are cute and won't share my stuff with me. Brothers are annoying.” his words made her chuckle.

Her pregnancy wasn't a soft one though, especially during the first few months. She almost lost the baby once and the doctor asked her to stay still and stop moving too much. But she couldn't, she had to take Mingyu on a walk every day and drop him to and from school, plus, she was volunteering at the sole health center in the area.

Hopefully, she got better after a while. She wasn't allowed to go on long rides though. So her husband, Kapsu, was the one to visit her every week or two.

After walking for an hour or so, Misook and her son went back to their rented room. They had dinner and watched tv a little bit before tucking into bed.

It was around midnight that the unbearable pain kicked in, causing her to scream and startle her son. The latter didn't know what to do when he saw his mother in that state, his tears falling right away. Hopefully, the landlady heard her, half the neighborhood did actually, and took her to the health center.

Her doctor panicked when he saw her, he didn't expect her to have her labor that early. His worry doubled after examining her. “She can't have a natural delivery, she needs a surgery.”

But a surgery was out of the question with the facilities they had, especially when she started to bleed.

The doctor didn't think twice before calling her husband, he knew how rich he was and he knew he did the right thing when less than an hour later, Lee Misook was moved to Seoul's hospital on a helicopter, leaving Mingyu in his care.

When she woke up after the surgery, she turned to the little bed by her side, expecting to see a baby right there, but it was vacant. Her husband was lying on the other bed in the room.

A doctor came in and her hopes rose again, but all what she got was an apologetic look, one she knew very well and used many times.

“The baby was in a critical condition. It was a miracle he was breathing. We're trying our best.”

A miracle, that's what he was. He was born a month earlier than expected, he was underweight, too tiny and fragile and no one was allowed to touch him except for the doctor himself.

Three hellish months passed and she couldn't do anything other than observing him from the glass. He was kept in the intensive care unit, fighting against death by himself.

“I changed my mind.” Mingyu said when he visited them at the hospital for the first time. “I don't care if it's a brother or a sister anymore, I just want him to be healthy.” those words were enough to bring back her endless tears.

And finally it happened, Sunggyu proved again that he was a miracle and recovered almost completely. When the doctor passed her the little baby, she couldn't help but cry again, happy tears that time, her husband took it better than her and just smiled fondly.

“Min, say hi to Sunggyu.” Kapsu picked Mingyu up so he could have a better look at his brother.

The kid on the other hand was hesitant to touch the baby, afraid of hurting him. It wasn't even a proper touch, but he liked how soft the tiny hand was, and he bravely touched it again, sliding his finger in the fisted hand. A wide grin appeared in his face when he felt a tug on his finger  so he shook the hand very lightly, as a handshake.

“Hi Gyu! Welcome to the family.”

And that baby grew up and became someone very responsible at a young age. Sunggyu was always acting as oldest brother. His parents were almost never home, too busy with work, so it was only him and Mingyu at home. They barely separated, Sunggyu always taking extra care of his brother, the latter always gets irritated by the youngest excessive worry.

“I really wanted a sister!” he would always complain.

“I know you love me.” that's how Sunggyu would always answer.

The way they could understand each other without a word being said, the way they relied on each other and their special bond made even their mother jealous. And deep inside, she knew when the time would come, Sunggyu would be hurt more than anyone else, even more than her. And that's what happened.

But she couldn't be any more proud of Sunggyu. He overcame all of those hard times and turned up to be very kind for his own good and trustworthy. She knew that he was a wild soul, he had a rebellious side and tended to try risky things, although he knew they could get him in trouble, but he was young and she couldn't blame him. Instead, she willingly gave him that freedom, without forgetting to make a few red lines here an there, knowing he won't cross them, and he never did.

Sending him to live with his father was something else. It wasn't just a punishment, but a little push to make him fix his relationship with his father. But it seemed that he still needed time.

Students were pushing each other and running through the corridors, all gathered in front of the big border hanged on the wall, showing them their final scores and ranks for the first semester.
The reactions differed from a student to another, according to their results.

Six people were standing in the middle of the fool, grinning while receiving envious looks from people around them.

“Congrats! You're officially an A student! You did it!” Myungsoo congratulated Sunggyu, who was obviously happy.

“You should watch out! I might snatch your spot!” Bora teased Eunji.

“He wishes! That's the closest he can get!” She pointed at the board.

Both of them had the same result, taking the first place, followed by Myungsoo, Bora, Krystal and Sungyeol successively. Their scores were too close to each other, and according to what they said, better than last year's. Their team work paid off after all.

“That's not what's important though! We're going to represent all the sophomores at the end of the year showcase.” Krystal pointed to another announcement on the left side, jumping with joy.

“I can't believe it either! I never thought I could make it.” Sungyeol admitted.

“And what's so special about that?” Sunggyu asked dumbly.

“Are you kidding me?! Representatives of the biggest entertainment companies attend the showcase. It would be great to catch the attention of someone like SM Entertainment's representative or JYP's!” Myungsoo was the one to answer, seemingly excited about the whole matter.

Sunggyu tried not to be obvious when he sent a guilty look to Eunji. The latter had a similar expression to his.

“I feel like a betrayer.” he whispered to her when they were walking to class alone, or at least away from their friends' earshot.

“Me too. But we're doing it for the best, remember that.” she replied.

“I hope so. Although I don't like hiding the truth, especially when I know how torturing being oblivious is.”

Eunji felt like those words were directed to her. That's what she was doing to him right then anyways.

'Great, another reason for him to hate me later.' she couldn't stop the thought from crossing her mind.

Sunggyu got better after the day he spent at home and she was more than glad to see his genuine smile again.  But that didn't mean that the pain had dissapeared. No, it was there, following him like his shadow. She was only able to see it because she always had a similar one following her around. Their scars were deep, but the only difference was that he was healing hers while she had the ability to reopen his by a single slip of tongue.

“So class, I'd like to start by congratulating you. You were ranked as the best class among all the second years, with the best six students being from this class.” their homeroom teacher, Miss Amy had started, a round of applause echoed in the classroom. “Well the six of you are the only sophomores who're going to perform at the end of the year's showcase. You'll have about ten minutes to present what you have. Either you want to devide yourself in two groups or just perform as a whole, do as you like, as long as you deliver something that match with your ranks and the school's standards. Tell me if you need help, and congratulations again.” she smiled proudly at them.

When everyone said that it was an honor to be chosen to participate in the showcase, they weren't exaggerating. Only few get the chance to do so. No more than three freshmen and six sophomores. But since the show was mainly focused on the third years, about fifteen to twenty seniors are chosen. It's a chance to be escorted by a representative and becoming a trainee in one of the big three entertainment company, so students take it very seriously and try their best to stand out and be noticed.

“We should come with something innovative. We need to blow everyone's mind.” Said Sungyeol in an overly excited tone once they entered one of the school's practice rooms.

“Then find us some original idea Mr. innovative.” Krystal demanded.

“All of us need to come with ideas and we can choose from them. We need to show everything, from singing, to playing instruments and dancing.” Bora added, opening a notebook.

“Sunggyu, I heard you said something about composing, are you good at it?” Myungsoo asked.

“I'm not bad. Eunji's better than me though.” he admitted.

“You're better than me when it comes to writing lyrics, but I can definitely beat you in the rest.” she smirked challenglingly. Sunggyu decided to ignore her and turned his attention back to Myungsoo.

“Why'd you ask? Do you have an idea?”

“Not really. I just thought that it will be a great touch to perform a self-composed song.”

“I like your thinking man!” Sungyeol high fived him.

“We can do that. But in those ten minutes, we can perform up to four songs. So alongside a self composed one, we still need other songs.” Sunggyu pointed out.

“I know, I know, but instead of leaving them the way they are, what about we rearrange them? You know, make a different version.” Myungsoo's eyes were shining when he suggested this.

“I told you this guy is a genius!” Bora clapped for him.

“So, let's get to work everyone! We have a badass performance to prepare for!” Krystal jumped from her seat.

It was quiet for days, all of them busying themselves with the preparations for the showcase, although it was still early. They had to plan everything, from the songs to the dance to the stage décor and lightning to their costumes and makeup. Everything needed to be perfect. And while working together, Sunggyu came to realize how compatible they were as a group. They never fought, not even for once. Each one of them did his task perfectly. Soon enough, they agreed on a concept, and they finished choosing the songs and started working on them. The hardest task was given to Sunggyu and Eunji: composing a song. And god how hard it was to make a 3-minute song from nothing.

“Hyung, I swear you're going to get us in an accident!” Sunggyu snapped.

It was a Sunday and he was going back home after having lunch with his grandma. Hakyeon wasn't the least focused and lost control of the car few times.

“Is everything okay?” he asked in concern, the eldest wasn't being himself, starting with the fact that he barely talked that day.

“Yes, don't worry.” his answer wasn't convincing, but Sunggyu didn't want to be nosy, for once.

“Say Sunggyu, can you do me a favor?” the elder asked when he stopped at a red light.

“I hope nothing illegal.” he said jokingly, although the other was dead serious.

“No, nothing illegal.” he replied.

“What is it?”

“Can you...” he stopped for a little when he saw the light turning green, he drove forward. “ Can you ask the professor to give me a raise?” his voice was very hesitant, obviously in shame of asking something like this.

“I'm sorry Hyung. I don't think I can do that. You know I'm not on good terms with him. Is everything okay?” he asked again.

“It's okay. Nothing I can't handle.” the driver tried to not sound disappointed but he was an open book.

Another silence fell on them, only to be broken by a ringing phone, Hakyeon's phone.

He quickly took his phone out of his pocket and as soon as his eyes fell on the caller's ID, panic flashed in his face.

“I'm sorry Sunggyu, I really need to take this call.” he didn't wait for the boy's answer and pulled the car over, picking as soon as it stopped.

“Hello father. What's wrong?.... WHAT?!! Are you sure?.... Maybe they mistook her for someone else.... What about the surgery expanses?... Really!!!.....Dad, I don't think I know someone who would pay for such a surgery, let alone having the best surgeon doing it and a VIP room and all that! I mean I have some well off friends, but not that ri-”

Sunggyu was enjoying the changes in Hakyeon's expression during the whole conversation and especially when he had stopped talking abruptly and turned to him. He tried acting oblivious though.

“After second thought, I think I know who did it. I'm hanging up, I'll stop by later.” he hang up on the phone, still glaring at Sunggyu.

“This is your doing, right?” he demanded.

“What are you talking about?” the younger had a mischievous expression, but soon changed it to a serious one when the driver started tearing up.

“Okay, this is totally weird! Why are you crying? Shouldn't you be happy?”

“I'm just so grateful! How did you know about the surgery?”

“I heard you speaking over the phone last time. And if I didn't take action I'm sure I'd die too soon in a car accident! Plus, it's one of the perks of having a doctor as a mother.” he explained.

“I will definitely pay you back. I'll work double the time if you want.”

“You sure? That's a lot of money.” his answer resulted in a fearful look on the elder's face. “I was just joking!”

“I don't care how much it is I'll pay it all.” Hakyeon insisted.

“I don't want money though. I want to be repaid by another thing.”

“What is it?” he gulped.

“Home made food. You said your mother is a good cook. When she gets better after the surgery, I want to taste her cooking. But I hope her skills are better than yours.” he shrugged at the memory of tasting Hakyeon's food. The latter sighed in relief and chuckled.

“Be prepared to gain a lot of weight, then, the taste is going to blow your mind.” he assured him grinning. He restarted the car and resumed driving.

“You said you're going to Eunji's?”

“Yeah, I stole a lot of food from the mansion's kitchen and I'm inviting myself for dinner at hers.” he grinned, thinking of his plan of intruding the apartment like a boss.

Sunggyu got in the elevator struggling between holding the mountain of boxes of food and few papers related to the showcase preparation. As soon as the doors opened, Sungjong came in sight and he was blocking the exit.

“I've never been so glad to see you before. Here,” he pushed a folder and a wallet on the stack of papers. “Dengue is waiting for those in the parking lot, he has a meeting and he almost forgot everything. Is that food? Give it to me! I'll take care of it.” he snatched the boxes from his hands and pushed him back in the elevator.

Sunggyu didn't understand what happened and just sighed in defeat when the door closed. He pressed the button of the basement, but his little move resulted in all the papers slipping and falling.
He sighed again, then croushed to pick them up, silently cursing Sungjong.

After getting everything back in place he noticed that the wallet had fallen down too, and a little picture was poking at the side.

Sunggyu unconsciously smiled at what he recognized as teenage Dongwoo with a wide grin plastered on his face. He carefully slid it out of the wallet to see the rest of it.

Another familiar figure was  in the picture as well, Ailee, with an expression identical to Dongwoo's. Sandwiched between the two teenagers, a little girl smiling innocently to the camera.

Sunggyu didn't to guess for too long, she was undoubtedly Eunji, wearing a red dress.

It was his first time seeing a picture of her childhood and he found it extremely cute and endearing, making his grin widening.
Just then, a memory flashed back in his mind. It was one he forgot a long time ago, but his latest encounter with Madam Jo brought it back. The face in his memory and on the picture was of the same person, he didn't doubt it,  he was sure.

'That kid, was it Eunji all this time?!' he wondered, unable to believe his own conclusion even though there was no other reasonable explanation.

Dongwoo's voice calling his name was what brought him of his trance. He quickly slid the picture inside the wallet.

“Sunggyu? Did Sungjong send you?” the elder asked.

“Ah yeah, he told me to give you this.” he handed him the wallet and folder. “I need to go! I forgot to do something important!” he ran out of the elevator, leaving Dongwoo confused.

The first thing he did when he went back to the penthouse was to search a few things up. He needed to organize his ideas. His first thought was to search for Jung Jinyoung's hotel's incident, the one the butler mentioned earlier. And when the day of the incident, explosion to be more exact, came out as the same of Mingyu's death date, Sunggyu wasn't surprised, because that's where his death occurred.

A detail in one of the articles about the incident, confirmed all his doubts: “A rumor said that Jung Jinyoung's child was injured in that incident, but nothing is certain.”

Sunggyu's mind was running marathons and he couldn't just stay still after coming to those realizations, so he took a taxi and headed right away to his father's office.

“What are you doing in here?” his father's tone was cold, no surprise seen on his face, even though that was his first time coming to his office and the way he barged in was anything but civilized.

“I think it's time for us to get things clear. I came for answers and i'm not leaving without them.” Sunggyu stood in front of the desk, red with anger, his father kept being uninterested.

“Answers about what?”

“About the 15th December 1998.” his words finally caught his father's attention.

“I think we spoke about that before, and I answered all your questions.”

“My questions are different this time, since I know what's a lie and what's not, now.”

“Go on, what do you want to know this time?” his father asked in annoyance.

“I know that you saw the body drowning that day, so I'll ask you this, was you the one who pushed her in the pool?” he demanded carefully, studying all the changes in his father's expression.

“No, why would I do that?” his response was cold.

“I don't know, maybe someone paid you to do it, or threatened you to do it.”

“Your ideas are getting wilder by days, huh?”

“We'll see if it's just my wild idea or the truth. Another question then.”
He paused a little bit. “When you took us to the hotel with you, it wasn't for just some event, you went there with a purpose. A purpose of killing Jung Eunji, right?”

His father's expression suddenly became too easy to read, the answer given away by the dread in is eyes.

“Don't give me that look. You'd do the same if you were in my position.” there was no regret in his voice, and it only made Sunggyu more disgusted.

“Why did you do it?” he asked between gritted teeth.

“She threatened to kill you and Mingyu. Do you expect me to stay still with my children's lives on the line?”

Sunggyu scoffed. “Well, killing someone's else kid seems really reasonable suddenly.” he said sarcastically. “I used to feel bad for blaming you before, but now, I'll hate you with no regret, because you're the one who killed Mingyu, in the most disgusting way.” he spat the last words before storming out of the office.

Going crazy was a an understatement in Sunggyu's case. The hints that he's been receiving for a while, finally fitted together and came into place. His father's cold confession was the last blow. The truth was too much to handle. But he was willing to receive it all at once, even it meant it could break him.
He was sick of being oblivious while everyone around him knew everything, especially someone he trusted so much.

Meet me on the roof, I have something to tell you.

Eunji sensed that something bad was happening, or going to happen, so she went there with a heavy heart.

Sunggyu was standing, his hands in his pockets, hair ruffled by the wind, eyes fixed on the other skyscrapers in front of him.

“Sunggyu!” Eunji called his name in a cheerful tone. He turned around and smiled at her.

“You came.” he tried to sound natural, but the coldness was there, echoing in the space more than the wheezing of the wind.

“What are you doing up here? Isn't cold?” she questioned, trying to sound casual.

“It is, but the cold air helps me clear my mind and arrange my thoughts.” he closed his eyes, still enjoying the coldness of the wind.

“What were you thinking about?” she asked, curious, but dreading the answer at the same time.

“Our first time meeting.” he replied.

The memory made her chuckle.

“You were acting all badass then, never thought that Dongwoo was tough, huh?”

Sunggyu smiled, but it didn't reach his closed eyes.

“I wasn't speaking about that time.” he turned to her, his eyes slowly opening.

Her expression fell.

'No, it can't be...'

And as if he could read her thoughts, he put and end to her doubt.

“I meant our first meeting, ten years ago.”

SURPRISEEE !! You're probably wondering what's wrong with me, everytime I say I'm busy, I come back with another chapter in two days. The thing is that whenever I start writing a chapter, I can't stop, the words just flow and without realizing it, I end up writing 5.5 words in two settings. I still didn't face any writer-block or whatever it's called and I hope I won't. just like you, I want to complete this story till the very end.

Since it's a fast update, there aren't any surprises, but I almost cried when writing the flashback part, (because I know how things will turn out between Sunggyu and his mother) ;)

I hope I didn't dissapoint anyone with this update, don't be silent readers and tell me what you think about it :) I'm happy to see there are some who're really enjoying it :D

Love you guys :** see you next time :p

Chapter 37: Whatever Gyu felt is probably how people feel when they have suicidal thoughts... That part was... nice.

I admit i was never a GyuJi fan but i still loved this story so much! It was great! It had the mystery, the thrill, the angst, the fluff, the friendship, the comedy (yeah at times), the romance- you have your own unique writing style AND your long chapters were never boring! So that was cool! And exciting! And i loved it!

True, the last chapter is not the best you've ever written, but it was still great, and i loved it!

The ending- mAN THE WAY THOSE FONTS GOT SMALLER WAS SO KYEOUTTT LIKE THAT WAS REALLY KYEOUT OkIE BAIII

(oh no i'm not leaving i loved your baby )

really the main reason i read the 2nd chapter of this story was because you made Gyu look so cool in his first appearance at the airport uh oh i can't forget that

oh okie Why was Hakyeon not in the last chapterrrr
oh who cares about N anyway
Butttttt his motherrr

and GyuJi was totally sweet and cute and shipgoals~

Good job
