Chapter Six

“What’s the point of having the weekends when everyone just studies anyway?” Jungyeon asked as she saw the amount of students studying in cafés or libraries or just anywhere they can bring a pen and paper to.

Nayeon nodded, “But the real question is… why are we not studying?”

Jungyeon waved Nayeon off and scoffed, “Us? Momo will never study, and we get distracted way too easily.”

“Hey, I have pretty decent grades” Nayeon argued, “I studied a bit for that.”

“Yeah, yeah, let’s just look for a café that’s not filled with a reminder of our bleak future” Jungyeon said.

Nayeon smiled. It’s been a while since she last hung out with Jungyeon, just the two of them, and she’s happy that they finally got the chance to do so. Normally, they’d hang out with Momo as well but this time Jungyeon decided not to because her wallet would probably burst.

“We’ll probably need to go more away from the main street for cafés that aren’t filled” Nayeon said as she saw how crowded the street they were on was, which was the main street of the district.

Jungyeon agreed, “Yeah… let’s leave this place.”

The two left the main street and decided the side areas would cater to their needs a lot better. There were more cafés around than they had expected and many were artsy and cozy little cafés with cute interiors. Nayeon enjoyed just looking at the cafés from the outside, “These places all look really nice.”

“Yeah, I almost forgot how many great cafés are around” Jungyeon chimed.

A certain café soon caught Nayeon’s attention. She tapped Jungyeon on the arm while staring at the cute little café at the end of the street, “Hey doesn’t that café look nice?”

Jungyeon turned to the direction Nayeon was looking and nodded, “Oh yeah. It does seem nice.”

“Let’s go” Nayeon was excited for sure. She couldn’t help but think of this as a little date, even if Jungyeon didn’t see it the same way. The two headed to the counter and was ready to order straightaway because they’d usually order the same drinks. Nayeon wasn’t much of a coffee person so would go for a classic hot chocolate, whereas Jungyeon would go with a green tea latte.

“Excuse me…” Jungyeon called quietly to the barista who seemed to be still preparing a drink for the previous customer. She watched as the girl quickly finished off the drink and passed it onto another worker, who served it.

“Yes” the girl turned around only to be met with two familiar faces, “Oh…”

Nayeon’s eyes widened with surprise, “Tzuyu-ah… you work here?”

Tzuyu nodded, “Yeah…”

“You know how to make coffee?” Jungyeon asked with a friendly smile.

Tzuyu gave a little nod, “I did it back in Taiwan too so it was the easiest job for me to find.” Her speech was evidently more formal when she spoke to Jungyeon, and of course the older girl noticed.

“Yah, why are you being so formal with me? It’s okay, treat me like you do with Nayeon.”

“Ah… okay” Tzuyu responded quietly. She looked away from the two, “What would you like?”

Jungyeon took the initiative to order for the both of them, “A green tea latte and hot chocolate please.”

A smile cracked onto Tzuyu’s face as she heard the order. Jungyeon noticed and couldn’t help but wonder why. “Why are you grinning?” she asked with a little smirk.

“Oh, I just thought that I guessed right when I thought Nayeon unnie wasn’t a coffee person” Tzuyu explained as she pressed in the order.

“You could tell?” Nayeon asked, surprised again.

Tzuyu nodded, “You always tend to pick the sweet things.”

“Oh, what an attentive dongsaeng you got yourself Nayeon” Jungyeon commented as she gave the friend a pat on the shoulder.

Nayeon actually felt her face heat up at Jungyeon’s comment. It would’ve been normal for her to get a bit flustered at Jungyeon’s touch but this time it wasn’t because of her ‘crush’. It was because of Tzuyu and she didn’t know what to think anymore.

“It won’t take long but feel free to take a seat, I’ll bring it over.”

Nayeon shook her head, “I’ll just wait here.”

Jungyeon nodded, “Then I’ll go take a seat.”

Nayeon watched her friend sit down before turning back to see Tzuyu already making their drinks. She leaned over the counter a bit, “Tzuyu-ah… Did you end up getting in more trouble? Is that why you cleaned the gym the other day?”

“Uh… yeah” Tzuyu replied with a faint smile.

“Yah! What did I tell you?” Nayeon was fully prepared to lecture the girl, “You’re an international student too, you should be extra careful because teachers can be bias.”

Tzuyu just smiled as she listened to Nayeon rambling on like she usually does and before she could realize it, she had already finished the drinks. She brought them to the counter and handed them over to Nayeon.

“Are you listening?” Nayeon asked as she looked up at Tzuyu, who was now facing her from the other side of the counter.

Tzuyu nodded, “Enjoy your time with Jungyeon unnie,” she said knowingly.

Nayeon should’ve blushed or felt a bit embarrassed because her dongsaeng was cheering her on. Because her dongsaeng was being a little cheeky, knowing she liked Jungyeon. She should’ve at least cracked into a shy smile.

But, she didn’t. Instead, she felt uncomfortable hearing the words come from Tzuyu's mouth.

The feeling had turned her world upside down in a matter of seconds.

It had been a while since Sana last visited Mina even though they live awfully close to each other – same building to be more specific. One of the main reasons they became friends so fast – a part from both being foreigners – was the fact that they lived super close, so they’d bump into each other quite often. The fact they ended up in the same class helped too. So, naturally it blossomed into a friends
