ch. 11
Why Now?"I'm home!" Yongsun called out in hopes of hearing the greeting returned to her by her partner, but, as usual, no reply.
She sighed as she walked over to the couch and flopped onto the bouncy cushions, tossing her bags to the side as she fell. It boggled her mind why Moonbyul had made her leave so quickly. The other had never pushed her out of her studio so quick, not even when a class was just about to come into the room; so why would that time be any different?
Was it the way she danced? The way she smelled? Were her hands too sweaty to hold?
Yongsun looked down at her own fingers and pressed the pads of her index digit and thumb, rubbing them together gently. Then, she rubbed her palms against each other. "...There's no way that my hands were that sweaty."
Another soft breath escaped her lips as she dropped her hands to her chest before slowly wrapping her arms around herself while turning inwards into the couch. All she could think about was her. Eyes closed, breath slowed, trying so hard to clear her mind, but the only image that popped into her head was what she had seen in the mirror of the studio only a few hours before. Herself and Moonbyul.
It wasn't even that Moonbyul had left an impacting impression on her with her dapper, cheeky little dance; she was just stuck in Yongsun's mind like gum that was tangled in long hair. It was as if Yongsun could still feel Moonbyul's eyes on her and her breath just barely hitting her skin; the tight grip she had on her hand and the way that the other held her so snuggly.
Yongsun couldn't help but think about what it would be like to be held by her for a long time.
The brunette swallowed. This couldn't be happening to her.
She was straight, engaged, and most of all, this girl was her fiance's cousin. If Minhyuk found out that Yongsun was thinking about his cousin in such a way, what would he say to her? What would he do?
The thought of Minhyuk yelling at her for flirting with someone else terrified her, as something similar had occured a couple years back in the early stages of their relationship.
It was a couple months into their new romance after Minhyuk had asked Yongsun to be his girlfriend and he had noticed that a friend of her's from college was getting too close with his girl. Yongsun didn't think much of it; he was a study buddy and often asked Yongsun for help with his music homework for he was close to failing the class. Tutoring a classmate after class for less than two hours a day seemed to piss Minhyuk more and more with each passing week, resulting in one of the biggest fights that Yongsun and him had ever had with each other in their relationship.
Screaming, throwing, thrashing, yelling, accusing, crying; it all happened in the one night. It was a memory that Yongsun wished to forget.
Although he didn't act like it, Minhyuk was possessive. And he made sure that at least she knew that he was.
Her eyes slowly opened as she turned over onto her back and stared up at the ceiling. The action never really calmed her, but it always helped her thought process. She believed that the only emotions she felt towards Moonbyul was infatuation. The attention that she gave her and the differences that she saw between her and Minhyuk were the only reasons why she seemed to be thinking so much about her, but she loved Minhyuk.
Minhyuk was her soulmate; her true love, her prince, her life partner.
At least, that's what she hoped.
"I hate thinking." Yongsun groaned and pushed herself off of the couch and sunk her toes into the fuzzy carpet, picking up her phone from the coffee table as she made her way into the kitchen. She had the "Do Not Disturb" function in order to get no personal calls during her work and she had forgotten to turn it off after coming home.
1 MISSED CALL: PUPPY
Yongsun swiped the notification to the right in order to automatically call her cousin back, put her phone to her ear and observed her coffee machine, debating whether or not to have one. A cup couldn't hurt.
"Hello?" Wheein chimed from the other end.
"Hey, sorry for not picking up. I was.. a little busy,"
"No worries."
Yongsun walked over to the fridge to get her container of filtered water, having to squish her phone between her ear and her shoulder. "What's up? You never call me out of the blue like this."
She could hear Wheein giggle into her microphone. "Well, uh.... I need your advice about something."
"Wow. Finally coming to your unnie for things, huh?" Yongsun mentally pictured an eye-roll from Wheein after hearing a soft sigh. "So, shoot."
"So... I wanted to ask Moonbyul unnie to finally be my girlfriend tonight."
Yongsun's body tensed at the phrase. It took her a moment to regain her composure; her entire mind had completely blanked without her realizing that she was squeezing the handle of the water jug so tight that her knuckles had turned white. "O- oh.. wow. That's a, uh.. that's a really big commitment, Wheenie."
"I know, but... we've been talking for quite some time and I think that I feel confident to ask her if we can be exclusive."
Yongsun whistled lightly and poured enough water into the coffee machine and set the jug down before responding to her cousin. "What are you calling me for then? You sound pretty set on the idea."
"I wanted to get your opinion on how I'm going to do it."
The elder shrug. "Alright. How so?"
Yongsun's head tilted as she listened to the special surprise that Wheein had planned. Sure, she was listening, but nearly all of Wheein's words slipped in through one way, and out through the other.
"Okay, so, we're supposed to hang out at her place like we usually do," Cute. "but this time I'm gonna show up with some flowers in my hand and dressed down in a cute outfit," Could've dressed down. "and then I'll tell her to get ready because we're gonna go out to get some dinner and one of our favourite restaurants; it's not too fancy either," Why not a fancy place? "and then I'm gonna take her to a place close to the water," That's a little cliche. "Wait until we're sitting down at a bench," I would make her feel like a princess. "and then do it there!" I wonder what Moonbyul would look like in a slit skirt... "...unnie?" Ah.
Yongsun caught herself once she realized that they were both silent.
"Oh- yeah, sorry. I was listening the entire time though," The brunette chuckled nervously and grabbed a pre-packaged cup of coffee from her rack of pods. "That sounds.. really romantic, Wheein. I think she'll enjoy the gesture."
"Really?! I've been freaking out about it the entire day and I just feel like it's a little... y'know... overdone."
Maybe a little. "Nonono, whatever you think is best for you and her, then you should go for it."
"Alright..." Yongsun's brows furrowed slightly at Wheein's sullen voice, but then jumped at her sudden energy. "Alright! Thank you, unnie!"
The girl laughed at her cute, little cousin. "No worries,"
Yongsun couldn't help but wonder about where the two were going to go after their dinner. Would it be the Han River? Another lake in one of the nearby cities? She only thought about asking, not having any intention of actually saying something, but had a mind of its own. "So... where are you planning to take her after dinner?"
"Ah- maybe Han River. It is the closest, after all."
"Cool, cool," Yongsun mentally slapped herself. She didn't mean to be so nosy. "Well, good luck Wheenie. I'm rootin' for ya."
"Thanks, unnie! I'll tell you how it goes!"
"Alright; see you." Yongsun dropped her phone from her ear and ended the call, her mind going blank. There was a sudden ache in her stomach that she couldn't put her fingers on. It was the feeling of nervousness. Anxiety.
She was scared for her cousin. She didn't want her to get hurt due to Moonbyul's past image.
And at the same time, she couldn't picture Wheein and Moonbyul together as an official couple. The image made her grip the end of her shirt tight.
At that moment, the door unlocked and creaked lightly as it was opened. Yongsun turned around to see Minhyuk carrying several bags; a laptop bag, a duffle bag, a convenience store bag full of snacks. "Hey!"
"H- hey, Minhyuk-ah." Yongsun accidentally stuttered, taken aback by the sudden appearance of her fiance, immediately taking a sip of her coffee. "How come you're home early?"
Minhyuk chuckled and put all his bags down before walking over to her to give her a giant hug, planting a quick kiss on her cheek. "Got off early. I'm in the mood to do something tonight, so I bought a bunch of snacks," He pointed back to the plastic bag on the floor. "Any ideas?"
The girl's tongue wetted her lips, one location immediately popping into her head. "...what about the Han River?"
