Chapter Thirty - Four (EPILOGUE)

As Twisted as Crossroads ('Tied To A Child' Side story)

If someone had told me that one day, I was going to be living my life in a farm house with twelve men and their wives as well as a horde of children running around to create a constant hum of chaotic energy, I would've burst out laughing in their faces.

Funilly enough, that was exactly what I was looking at this morning as I stepped out of our bedroom.

After some much debating, the wolves had decided to expand the house into tiny little cottages that spread out over the land, and while the two leaders as well as unmated wolves resided in the main house, the rest of the mated wolves were happily settled in their own little cottage for some more privacy, something that Luhan had been so gleeful about he had a huge grin on his face the entire first week that we moved in our small singular home.

That didn't mean that I didn't see any of them any less. Every night, the wolves still huddled into the tiny cramped living room if they weren't on patrol and most often than not, a disney movie would be playing across the screen to keep the children entertained. Taehyung was bigger now, almost six, and had deemed himself to be a pirate, inspired by the Pirates of the Carribean movie. The twins, on the other hand, were complete contrasts of each other. Ryan was just as loud and as obnoxious as his uncles, while Rooda sported the softer, quieter nature of her mother. They were going to celebrate their three year old birthday in a few weeks from now and much to Ryan's insistence, we were going to have a huge batman-themed jumping castle in the middle of the yard.

All in all, everything was perfect.

"Seulmi!" a flurry of light brown hair practically knocked me off my feet, grabbing on to the back of my thighs. Ryan looked up with a cheeky grin, so like his father's that I couldn't help but chuckle before smoothing a hand over his head.

"Someone's all excited this morning," I noted as he grabbed on to my hand and pulled me out into the yard, where the rest of the wolves and mates had resolved to sunbathing. The taste of summer was in the air and my stomach growled upon getting a whiff of the griled meat being prepared by Chen and Tao.

If this was heaven, I wouldn't mind being dead.

"I did two summersaults this time! You should've seen me. Momma said I looked like a real superhero!" Ryan kept chatting on as we reached the circle. My eyes instantly searched for my mate, only for disappointment to curl in my stomach when I realized he was nowhere to be found.

"Seulmi, come sit!" Haerim, who had grown on me like a big sister, made some space on the gingham blanket as Sarang a plate full of fresh barbequed meats underneath my nose.

"Apologies if it's too burnt," Sarang giggled, eyes finding the two said wolves who were currently argung about who had burnt the last piece of chicken, "they're really not good at this."

"Who's idea was it to put both of them in charge?" I raised a brow while taking a quick bite of a chicken sausage.

Kyungsoo snorted on his side of the blanket, "definitely not mine."

I noticed that him and Melody were sitting as close as they could to each other, thighs pressed together and shoulders brushing at every movement. They'd made it official a few months back when neither could resist the pull and it was safe to say that nothing had happened to them. Yet. And we were going to keep hoping that it stayed that way.

As if reading what was going on through my mind, Melody's eyes found mine in silent understanding. She nodded and I flashed her a quick, knowing smirk. She returned it with a glare of her own, even though I knew that she was merely joking.

I saw so much of myself in her that it was just a matter of time until we got close and she opened up her heart to me about her fears for the future, about her deep affection for Kyungsoo even when she barely showed him any. To that, I comforted her that Kyungsoo was well aware of her intentions, no matter how silent she stayed about it.

"--And anyway, I told you that sausages burn faster than chicken! You just didn't listen to me!" Tao's voice floated to the group and I turned to see the pair -- decked in just shorts -- growling at each other as they balanced plates of meat.

Kris got up to extend his arm, "here, I got it. Don't want any meat to go to waste."

"Oh it's fine we can just shift and eat it then," Chanyeol teased. That caught all children's attention.

"Uncle Channie, you're going to shift?" Taehyung gasped. He especially loved seeing them in wolf form. Somehow, all children had never been afraid of the fact that their relatives could shapeshift. It was as natural to them as breathing, and I wondered briefly if it was because they had it running through their veins.

"Uh, not right now Tae," Chanyeol reached over to ruffle the said boy's hair, "maybe later?"

"But you said--"

"Now now, Tae," Baekhyun jumped in right before Taehyung could throw a fit. He swept his son up in his arms and tickled his tummy, "Chanyeol said later, let him eat first okay? You want some more steak?"

"Why can't you shift, Seulmi?" I turned to see Ryan tugging on the edge of my shirt, and I quickly arranged myself so that he could lean easily against my chest. He snuggled up without protest.

"I'll tell you a secret, Ryan," I bent down to murmur in his ear. His eyes widened in awe and I continued, "I'm actually a fairy from the woods. Like tinkerbell."

"Tinkerbell?" Ryan repeated, eyes sparkling in amazement, "No way! You can fly too?!"

"No I can't, because it's a secret. Just like you can't tell anyone about your uncles and father being wolves."

"But I can keep a secret!"

My smile widened. I couldn't help but pinch Ryan's cheek. "that's why I told you, nobody else knows I'm a fairy but you have the privilege of knowing this."

"Oh stop telling the kid lies," Haerim threw a paper cup at me and I stuck my tongue out in retaliation before replying, "hey, nobody has the chance to have superpowers like you."

"Yeah but you'll regret it when Ryan will ask you to fly," Haerim grinned.

"Sarangie," Ryan turned to the said woman then, who reached out to push his hair away from his face, "does your baby have the wolf ability too?"

"Hm, not quite sure about that, but tell you what? I'm sure you'll love him!"

"How'd you know it's a he?" Jongin asked.

His wife scowled at him, hands wrapping around her tummy protectively, "I just do, Jongin. Would you know better?"

Haerim and I exchanged glances, before bursting into fits of laughter. It was no secret that the wolves had their fair share of suffering whenever their mates were either on their periods or were pregnant. We'd seen it happen so oftern around here that it was indeed a source of our own entertainment.

"By the way, has anyone seen Luhan?" I asked the group and took another bite of my chicken. A chorus of no's echoed throughout the group and something pinched inside my chest. Not that I was worried, Luhan was conscious enough of what he did and where he went. He wasn't stupid and yet, a burst of worry blossomed through my stomach.

Bile suddenly rose at the back of my throat. I dropped the plate, standing up abruptly before rushing towards a few bushes at the edge of the garden.

I faintly heard people calling my name, but they were soon drowned out by the disgusting gut-wrenching noises of me throwing up today's meal, stomach heaving and breaths coming in at short intervals.

A pair of hands swept my hair back. Goosebumps rose upon my skin.

"Luhan," I gasped out. He was by my side in the blink of an eye, eyes flickering towards my face in concern.

"What's wrong, sweetheart?" His term of endearment would never cease, a habit that had stuck ever since the early days.

"I--" I threw up again, flinching at the smell, "I don't know."

He waited until I had finished emptying the contents of my stomach before proceeding to wipe my mouth with a napkin. Closing my eyes in an attempt ot to barf once more, I felt something cool touch the edge of my lips. Water.

I drank slowly, with Luhan's hand rubbing comforting circles over my back in comfort. I leaned against him, the act having left me dizzy and legs weak.

"Food poisoning?" he murmured into my ear. I shook my head. Not possible, since the only thing I had eaten since morning was the barbeque which had also been eaten by the rest of the wolves.

"Where were you?" i couldn't help but ask as we slowly trudged back towards the group who, without looking, I knew had on concerned expressions all over their faces.

"I was running a quick patrol around the perimeter. Kris asked me to."

I wanted to flash a smile at them but couldn't find the energy to, so instead slumped against Luhan's frame, who took this as his cue to pick me up in his arms.

I wasn't one to take advantage of his strength so easily, but right now I didn't mind, snuggling up into the crook of his neck and allowing my eyes to flutter closed for a few seconds.

"Seulmi, you alright?" Haerim was the first to reach me, before someone pushed her out of the way. Kyungsoo's palm came to a rest on my forehead, "she seems fine, temperature wise."

"It's probably just something I ate," I didn't feel like causing a scene.

And then, Kyungsoo gasped.

He jerked back like I'd burned him. Eyes wide, looking like he'd seen a ghost.

I frowned, "What?"

"You--" He stumbled back, "You--"

"What is it, Kyungsoo?" Now, I felt Luhan's heart pick up its pace and panic jumped through my chest.

"You're pregnant, Seulmi."

My mind went blank. For a minute, all I could do was stare at him, stare at the way he was staring back at me. Everything suddenly stopped, the world pausing on its axis. I was barely breathing.

What?

And then, a sudden realization burst throughout the group as exclamations rung through the air and the group suddenly sprung up all around us with congratulations flying right over my head.

"Oh my gosh yes! I hear it!"

"Seulmi you're next! I thought it would be Haerim to be honest.'

"I'm so excited for you!"

"This is amazing!"

My brain felt so overwhelmed by the amount of voices talking over each other that I felt like a lost dancer listening to foreign music for the first time in my life, and it was relieving to hear Kris's booming alpha alto echo over everyone else's:

"SHUT UP!"

Everyone shut up.

The group parted to let the alpha through and he grasped by hands in his large ones, eyes turning gentle as they skimmed over my tummy. He smiled at me, a gentle fatherly smile that, despite my weak stance, caused me to smile back.

"Congratulations, Seulmi."

He then gestured for the wolves to scatter before he addressed Luhan, "we'll come visit her later but she's probably quite shocked at the news. And you probably need your time alone."

I wasn't sure whether I had drifted into unconsciousness because next thing I knew, my eyes were fluttering open to meet the wooden ceiling of our bedroom. I blinked and slowly sat up, realizing that Luhan had covered me with a blanket. My heart warmed with affection at my wolf's attentiveness, but before I could ponder on his whereabouts, I saw him leaning against the door with an expression I couldn't quite place.

Right. Pregnant. The memory of it rushed back and instinctively, I placed a hand over my middle.

A baby. My baby.

It wasn't like we had been trying. Obviously it would've been nice to have one, but really, this had not been in our plans at all, and I could tell from Luhan's stance that he was just as shocked into silence as I was.

He moved slowly towards the bed after what seemed like an eternity, the mattress dipping beneath his weight as he reached out to clasp my hands between his own, thumb caressing the back of my knuckles in a manner that caused goosebumps to trail up my arms.

I didn't dare look up into his eyes, for fear of what I'd find there. Surprise? Probably. Excitement? Regret? Revulsion?

"God Seulmi, who do you take me for?" Luhan's alto struck through my mental monologue and with a start I realized that he had gotten a whiff of everything I had been telling myself.

I couldn't help but flush red, heat tickling the back of my neck as my teeth sunk into my bottom lip.

His thumb was at my chin then, tilting my head up so that I had no other choice to look into his eyes. They were brown now, swirling with genuine affection and tenderness, nose brushing against mine so intimately I had to sigh at the feeling of calm it washed upon my form.

"We're going to have a baby," his murmur made me shiver, heat blossoming through my chest when his fingers splayed against my neck, "a baby, can you imagine?"

"That--" I chuckled softly, "I hadn't expected that."

He laughed, "me neither."

I felt his eyes trail down my face and drop to my stomach, which still gave no sign of life yet.

"How did Kyungsoo know?" I asked him while his hand trailed across my abdomen, skimmed past my shirt to push it upwards. Luhan dipped his head so that his lips were brushing over my navel, a sensation that caused my insides to heat up with warmth. My fingers instantly curled into his locks, biting my lip at the sensation.

Luhan glanced up from beneath his lashes, "he heard it."

"Heard what?"

My breathe hitched upon feeling his breath so close to my skin.

"The baby's heartbeat."

My eyes widened, "he heard what?"

"It's not uncommon," I heard the smile of amusement in my wolf's tone, "that's how Baekhyun knew he was a father."

"How come you didn't notice?"

"I was probably too busy figuring out what was wrong with you," he replied with narrowed eyes, to which I shrugged and stuck out my tongue, "so I guess this whole throwing up thing wil be happening for a while."

Luhan hummed his agreement and before I could do anything else, started peppering a few kisses over my stomach in affection. My heart soared as I watched him, hands fiddling with his hair and affection bursting through my chest at the man that held me, looked at me like I was the center of his world, his universe.

"Beautiful," I heard his murmur wash over my belly as his fingers traced it with a tenderness that caused a grin to spread across my face. I leaned down and kissed his head in an affectionate manner, to which he tilted his face up, eyes closed, for more.

Still grinning, I proceeded to kiss his forehead, then his nose, each cheek, jaw.

Finally, I pecked his lips. A low grumble echoed through his chest before his arms were around my middle, pulling me in for more. My mouth met his halfway, already curving up into a tender smile as he kissed my breath away. His muscles bunched as he heaved himself up, hovering over mine and pressing me back onto the bed so that his frame fit snuggly between my curves.

"I love you," I heard him murmur in-between soft, tender kisses that fell over my mouth like dots of rain, and affection blossomed through me, warming me up and coating my cheeks into a dusty rose of pink. My hands went up, sliding through dark brown locks before tugging him away. He got my intention, leaning back so that our noses brushed against each other, my brown eyes now witholding his silvery-eyed gaze.

"What?" he mumbled, clearly wanting nothing more than to resume our small snogging session. I couldn't help but chuckle softly at his impatience, before one of my hands traced his cheekbone in an affectionate manner, a small smile dancing across my lips as I took in his face; the dip of his eyebrows and the soft nose bridge, the lips that I've come to know so intimately and those eyes, those eyes that could render me senseless and cause my legs to tremble with a mere look. Our baby would possibly take some of his features. Just the thought of a smaller Luhan running around in our backyard caused a small giggle to bubble up my throat.

Luhan cocked a brow, probably wondering whether I'd lost my mind. So I voiced my thoughts and he grinned back at me, eyes glittering in mischief.

Propping his elbow right beside my head and allowing his head to rest against his palm, his other hand starting tracing circles over my right shoulder, teasingly slipping through the folds of my t-shirt at random times.

"Do you think it'll be a boy or a girl?" he asked.

I shifted towards him, pausing as I thought for a minute, "I don't know. I'd like a boy though. I really want to see a mini-you run around."

"I disagree, I want a girl that looks just like you."

"Copycat."

"I am not!"

"So are," I stuck my tongue out at him and he shifted over me once more, making sure to entangle my fingers with his before pinning them down on the bed and pressing his body against mine so insistently I felt his firm length against my heat.

A small gasp escaped my throat, which made his lips twitch into a knowing smirk, "so, going back to what we were doing..." his words were nothing more than a throaty growl as his nose skimmed a path up from my collarbone to my neck, nibbling softly on my pulse point. I swallowed thickly, hating the way he had me so pliant under his hands at his mere touch. But before I could find anything smart to retort back, his lips were already peppering soft kisses along my jawline; soft, yet open-mouthed and allowing me to feel the intensive heat that had me squirm slightly under him.

"Is there nothing else-- that you, you--" the words that left my lips were choppy and more than a little breathless as my wolf continued his assault his way right up to my ear. He the outer shell and the sensation caused a small whimper to fall from my mouth. My fingers impulsively dug into his.

Luhan hummed and the vibration of his alto had my toes curling, "Mhm, didn't quite catch that sweetheart. What were you saying?"

"You--" I murmured weakly when I felt Luhan's lips inch closer and closer to my mouth, "You're not--"

"Hm?" his mouth brushed against mine, teasing, taunting, tempting.

My fingers tightened over his own. A small whine escaped my mouth, insistently. I didn't care how wanton I sounded, didn't care that all I could think about was the fact that I wanted his mouth on mine so that he'd kiss me into oblivion.

But my wolf seemed to have other plans, for he merely grazed his lips once more against mine for good measure, before he pulled back with a grin.

"Luhan," I glared at him.

"Yes?"

"Just--" I couldn't find the words to express my frustration, letting out a sigh instead, "nothing. Nevermind."

"Can't help you if you don't tell me what's wrong," he wriggled his brows.

"Nothing's wrong."

"Are you sure about that?"

I nodded, pressed my lips together. I wasn't about to give him the satisfaction he yearned for. He chuckled, the sound rumbling through his chest as a shiver involuntarily sizzled through my body. God, this man had me under such a spell that it scared me sometimes.

And then, he was kissing me.

His lips were strong, pressing down onto mine as though he was staking a claim, marking me as his own. My hands slid up his neck, wrapped around him to tug him even closer if that was possible. My action caused him his elbow to slip, his hips accidentally rolling against mine and I bucked my hips up in response, both of us gasping at the sensation of heat against heat. Red hot desire shot right through my core as our mouths danced with such familiar ease around each other, a dance that we'd practised for so long, yet kept taking my breath away as though it was our first.

My chest squeezed with so much happiness I felt like it could break at any second, tears suddenly overwhelming my vision when I thought back to how far we've come since our very first meeting where he'd told me he was a wolf. I hadn't wanted to believe him then, hadn't believed that there was such thing as fantastical beings and soulmates. But while Luhan could've given up on me as easily as I would've done, he'd continually pressed on without defeat, always trying to win me over, consistently putting effort into showing me that this -- what we had -- was worth trying, was worth risking everything for it all.

He was everything and I was so glad he was mine.

Luhan sensed my sudden lack of enthusiasm even though I hadn't wanted him to notice. He leaned back slightly, breaths hot as they fanned against my face in a sensual temptation.

"What's wrong, sweetheart?" his voice was a deep murmur, hand reaching up to gently push stray strands of hair away from my face.

"Thank you," I blurted out without thinking too much of the embarrassment that was to come of such a situation, "for not giving up on me. On us."

I usually would slap myself for saying such corny things. It wasn't in my usual habit to be so open with words. But there was no traces of teasing in my wolf's expression. There was only gentleness, a tender affection that made another round of butterflies flutter over my heart as though in a constant state of euphoria.

"Where did that come from?" he quirked a brow in question.

I shrugged, "I keep thinking about how we wouldn't have been together now, if not for you. You knew I didn't believe in all this bull and--"

"But you did," he cut me off before I could continue. One of his hand reached out to cup my cheek, thumb gently caressing my skin and eyes flashing silver, "you believed me in the end, didn't you?"

"Like, after a gazillion years?"

"Hey, what's romance without a little chase?"

"I'm serious, Luhan."

He swooped me up so suddenly in his arms that I yelped, hugged me tight against his chest, "I know sweetheart," he murmured against my ear, "I know."

I hugged him just a little tighter, just a little bit more to show him the extent of my gratefulness. I loved him with all my heart and while I knew that he was aware of my affections, there won't ever be a day that would pass that I wouldn't tell him.

Because he deserved it. He deserved all of it.

I felt his hand drift down to my stomach, gently smoothing over the invisible bump, where my baby -- our baby -- would soon grow to life.

And I just knew that my life -- this life -- was just about to start.

It started with a happy ending.

A/N:
Well.....
I might have finished this fic. (or I might not).

HELLO EVERYONE! I feel like it's useless to say that it's been a while because it always seems to be 'a while' whenever I post (like probably 6 months apart for every chapter post hahaha...not funny I know).

But after years of having taken a pause from AFF altogether, I'm here to say that AS TWISTED AS CROSSROADS is OFFICIALLY. OVER.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

This has taken a while. I don't think I've ever taken so long to finish a fic before, but I promised that I would and I hope that I did this ending justice. While I know it's a short chapter, I hope that you all liked how it ended anyway. I might do a bonus chapter with them as parents as well as an additional chapter bonus for Kyungsoo and Melody (tbh I wrote a separate chappie for them already because I JUST LOVE THEM ) but we'll see. Let me know whether you'd like to read it!

I don't want to sound inconsiderate when I say this, but quarantine has made me write again on a daily basis, and I guess that's one benefit of being stuck at home(?). Nevertheless, I want to send out my prayers to all the ones that are suffering, to the ones who are struggling, to the ones fighting for their lives and to the ones that have loved ones in the dangerous hands of this virus, to the ones that are on the front lines fighting against the virus. I'm sending my support to y'all and I hope that you stay safe and healthy in these uncertain times.

On a happier note, I've started a new fic called:

Here's The Deal - Jeon Jungkook x OC (CLICK!)

Check it out if you love Jungkook just as much as I do ;)

Thank you to everyone who has made this journey special. You guys, you're the ones who inspire me to write, no matter what. I wouldn't have been able to finish this without your ongoing support and I can't thank you all enough for being here. I build these worlds in order to share with you what's on my mind and I'm constantly always surprised by how genuinely supportive and loving you all are. I love you. <3

Let's meet again in my other stories, okay?

Love,
