Life Goes On

Kai’s mom drove them to a building that Kyungsoo had gone past before, but never really paid any attention to.

“See ya boys.  Have fun and I’ll pick you up at six!” Kai’s mom called out the window as she drove off, back to do whatever it is that moms do.

“Well, we’re here,” Kai pointed out the obvious.

“Yes, I can see that,” Kyungsoo replied sardonically.  “Are we going to go in, or are we just going to stand around until the sun sets?”

“Oh, yeah, um, follow me.”

Kai lead them into the building, and Kyungsoo was mesmerized by everything around him.  This was definitely a place for passionate people, as was proven by the cases filled with trophies of past competitions, and the walls covered in pictures of past and present students, all with a determined look in their eyes.

As the two of them walked down the hallway to where Kai’s lesson was, Kyungsoo couldn’t help but to peak in through the windows on the doors to the classes already underway.  Kyungsoo didn’t know much about dance, but even he could tell that these people knew what they were about.  There were dances ranging everywhere from the most graceful of ballets, to salsa, and even to hip hop.

“So what kind of dance do you do, Kai? I never really bothered to find out before.”

“Well, I guess you’ll get a better idea of it when you sit in on my lesson, but I do a kind of fusion dance that combines the grace of ballet with the energy and sharp movements of hip hop.

“I used to only do ballet when I was younger, and I was really good, even winning a few competitions myself, but as I got older, the peace and calm of it no longer resonated with me, so I switched to hip hop.  As my life settled down again, it became too harsh and intense for what it was I was feeling, and in my search for a style that was between the two, and therefore more befitting of the way I feel, I found something that was exactly that; a style that took the best points from both things and incorporated them into one unified movement.”

“Wow, you talk about it so passionately. I knew you liked dancing, I mean who doesn’t right? But I guess I never realized how much you actually love it.”

“Yeah, dancing has been the only stable thing in my life.”

But before Kyungsoo got a chance to ask what he meant by that, Kai’s name was called out loudly.

“Kai, wassup man?” A tall and thin boy came walking over to them.  He had a strong jaw, and despite the friendly tone of his voice, his face was set in what appeared to be an expression of unhappiness. He had a handsome face, and his hair was styled so that the underside was dark and shaved close, while the top was long and shaggy, and dyed a beautiful silver that added to his overall elvish look.

“Sup Sehun,” Kai raised his hand in casual greeting.

“And who is this little munchkin?” Sehun asked inquisitively, reaching out to ruffle Kyungsoo’s hair.

“I’d watch it if I were you, Hunnie, Kyungsoo’s older than you and can your up.  He does boxing you know.”

“Awe, how adorable!”

Kyungsoo merely glowered at him as Kai laughed beside him.  “Kyungsoo, this is my friend Sehun.  As you can probably see, despite his severe case of resting -face, he’s almost nice.  And he has a penchant for cute things.”

“Are you implying I’m cute?” Kyungsoo decided to throw him for a loop.

“What!? No! I just meant that you look like a little kid! Wait, no, what I mean is that-“ Sehun interrupted Kai’s embarrassed spluttering with a loud laugh.

“What is this that I am witnessing? I have never seen the ever cool Kim Kai not know what to say! What happened to the smooth lady killer that can make any girl swoon with a single look? Who can out-cool every person around him and make them all feel inadequate? Kyungsoo, what have you done!?”

Kyungsoo now joined Kai in embarrassment.  “It’s just because I’m so awesome I guess.”

Sehun chuckled again as he and Kai were called to join the rest of the class.  “You can go ahead and sit on the bench alongside the wall.”

Kyungsoo did as he was told, settling himself down on the hard wooden bench with the too straight wall as his back rest.  He suddenly realized how awkward he felt, being here in this room full of passionate dancers and not knowing a thing about it.  It hadn’t occurred to him when Kai asked him to tag along, but he wasn’t very comfortable among people he didn’t know, and watching them practice their dancing while he sat around and did nothing, further added to his social discomfort.

Kyungsoo shifted around restlessly on the bench as the class began doing their stretches.  He found himself floored by how flexible Kai was, able to bend in half and touch his palms flat to the floor, affording Kyungsoo a very nice view of Kai’s rear-end.  But beyond this, he was amazed at his flexibility, considering he himself was luck if he could even reach his ankles.

When Kai straightened up, he made eye contact with Kyungsoo on the bench and grinned.  “Are you having fun?” He mouthed when the teacher wasn’t looking, and Kyungsoo nodded in the affirmative, not wanting him to know how uncomfortable he was.

A little more shifting, and a lot more stretching on the dancer’s part, Kyungsoo decided to get off of the hard bench and instead sit on the floor with his legs crossed and his back hunched over.  He knew this position wouldn’t be comfortable for long, but at the moment, it was scores better than the bench.

The dancers soon moved from stretching, to brief exercises to get their hearts pumping and the blood flowing, warming their muscles before strenuous use.  One of these activities was to leap across the floor, arms moving through the air as if they were swimming in a stroke.  They all moved so fluidly and so gracefully, that Kyungsoo couldn’t help but feel that he was witnessing a bunch of Faerie Folk leaping and frolicking in a field of flowers.

Then, sooner than Kyungsoo was prepared for, they began the actual dance.  The music began playing, and he instantly zeroed in on Kai, eager to see what all the craze was about, and excited to see that passion transcend mere words and be put into action.

As soon as Kai began moving, Kyungsoo realized just how underprepared he was.  It was as if both the bully Kai of a week ago, and the slightly awkward Kai of this week were gone, and in their place was some being that was the physical representation of itself.

At moments, he would move so fluidly that it was if he had not a bone or joint in his body, and at others, he would move in a much more controlled manner, able to separate the movements of parts of his body that Kyungsoo always just thought were a package deal, and all the while his dark eyes smouldered sensually.

The dance went on, and Kai was sweating, drops of it running along his jaw and pooling above his prominent upper lip.  Despite his inactivity, Kyungsoo found that he was hot as well, a thin sheen of sweat coating his forehead.

Fanning himself with his hand, Kyungsoo was unable to look away from the magic that was taking place before his eyes.  Kai was in his element now, and the already beautiful boy was now breathtakingly gorgeous, not only physically, but emotionally as well.  Kyungsoo wasn’t able to pinpoint the exact emotions that were emanating from his body, but there was no doubt that Kai was pouring his whole soul into his movements; thoughts, worries, dreams and hopes pouring off of his body and hitting Kyungsoo square in the chest.

Kyungsoo didn’t know how much time was passing as he was staring at Kai moving around the dance floor, aweing him beyond compare, but soon enough, the dancers stopped their magic for a water break, and Kai and Sehun joined Kyungsoo on the floor.

“So, what did you think?” Kai asked as he folded his long, lithe legs up and sat next to Kyungsoo, throwing his head back to drink from his water bottle, causing his Adam’s apple to bob up and down his tan throat.

“It was,” Kyungsoo cleared his throat, “it was really good.  You were really good.  I could really see your passion in your movements.”

“What about me?” Sehun asked whiningly, popping his mouth off of his own water bottle.  “How’d I do?”

“Uhhh…” Kyungsoo trailed off.

“You weren’t even watching me, were you?” Kyungsoo shook his head no.  “That’s alright, I suppose, it makes sense you’d only have eyes for this y motherer,” he said, gesturing to Kai and taking another sip of his water.

“I’m sure you were good too, Sehun.”

“He is,” Kai sniggered. “He’s second best in the class. After me, of course.”

“Of course,” Kyungsoo agreed sarcastically.

At this point, the dancers’ water break was up, and after a few quick stretches to loosen their muscles again, they began their work once more.

Kyungsoo spent the remainder of the practice watching Kai, though this time he did try to watch Sehun sometimes as well.  He was right, he was a good dancer.  His skill level was through the roof, and he had complete control over his body, but he just didn’t have that something that Kai had.

Kyungsoo didn’t know if it was because he wasn’t pouring all of his heart and soul into even the most miniscule of movements like Kai was, or if it was because his silver hair and fine features didn’t lend themselves to same level of appeal that Kai’s own strong and dark ones did, but he just wasn’t as enraptured by Sehun’s dance as he was Kai’s.  Though he did try to watch him sometimes, as soon as he stopped paying attention, his eyes strayed back to the boy that once tried to make his life a living hell.

The practice at last came to an end, and Kai sauntered over to Kyungsoo, wiping his face down with a towel and then throwing it over his shoulder.

“So, did you get any inspiration?” He asked as he gathered up his things.

“A little, yeah.  I’m going to do some tweaking later at home.  I’ll email you what I come up with.”

“Okay, sounds good.  Are you ready to go?  My mom just texted that she’s here.”

“Hey, before you leave, my friend is having a party Saturday, you guys should come,” Sehun informed them.

“I’m not really much of a partier,” Kyungsoo replied awkwardly.

“It’ll be fun though! And it’s nothing too intense, just some music, conversation, and a little bit of dancing.”

“I don’t know.”

“Don’t worry Sehun, I’ll be there.  I’ll do my best into talking Kyungsoo into it too.”

“Uhh…”

“Well, we’re gonna leave now, I guess.”

“Wait!” Sehun called.  “I need to say goodbye to little Kyungsoo!”  Kyungsoo groaned as Sehun wrapped him up in a sweaty hug and began rocking him back and forth.

“Okay Sehun, that’s enough,” Kai said coldly.  When Sehun didn’t release his prey right away, Kai reached over and grabbed Kyungsoo, pulling him away from Sehun’s embrace.  The force of the yank caused Kyungsoo to stumble into Kai with his head against his chest, but despite the intimate position, Kai didn’t flinch, nor did he let go of Kyungsoo’s wrist as he began tugging him out of the room.

“Unnecessary!” Sehun yelled indignantly after catching himself from stumbling.  “Kyungsoo, come again!  It was a pleasure to meet you!”

Kyungsoo, his wrist still being gripped by Kai as he was dragged out the door, called back, “You too!” but was unsure of whether or not he had been heard.

Kai finally let go of him as they reached the end of the hallway and approached the door to the sidewalk, but still kept himself close to Kyungsoo.  When they got to the door, Kai pushed it opened, and held it like that until Kyungsoo walked through, letting it slam shut behind them.

The two of them piled into the car, where Kai’s mom greeted them sweetly.  The rest of the ride was quiet, and Kyungsoo was soon enough dropped off at his house.  As he walked to the door, he looked back to see Kai smile at him and wave.

“I need to call Jongdae,” Kyungsoo said to aloud to himself as he waved back.

As soon as he got to his room, it was the first thing he did.

“Hello?” Jongdae answered after the third ring.

“Jongdae, it’s me, I have a problem.”

“What is it, Soo?”

Chapter 33: Its 2020 and I just discovered this yesterday!

Yes, I've been up all night reading it! Yes, I didn't expect it to be this good - because of the typo warning, but with a plot this well written out I didn't even notice the typos. And hell yes, I finished it!

It is written really well! I actually cried, laughed, and rolled my eyes while reading this. Honestly, this is the A+++ type of fic that just snatches you body & soul and never lets go. Ugh I'm so mad that I finished it too quickly. I know I'll have Reader's Hangover and I know for a fact that this one is the kind I will reread over and over again in the future.

Mavelous. Absolutely marvelous!
