Kris, It's Me! - Chapter Two

“I-I…I’m Kris.” I raised an eyebrow as the teen stuttered his name.

I looked at the chain around his neck and almost passed out.

“Hey um, I just moved here so…I guess I’ll see you around? What do you do in the summer?” I asked.

Kris pointed to his outfit. “This…Oh I surf after three, come see me.” He winked. “I’ll win a competition just for you to see.”

I chuckled and nodded. “Sure.”

I almost flew home. I just moved here with my family a couple days ago. It’s a long story. They aren’t actually my family members.

They’re fellow princesses of certain seas. I’m the princess of the atlantic sea and well, I may be human on land but I’m a mermaid when water touches me.

They’re all here because of me…When I was little, I saved a little boy from dying and I gave him my pearl. Without that pearl, I can’t go on to marry a prince

of some sea and become the queen of the atlantic. My family was furious to see that I had given my pearl away to someone I didn’t know, but hey that little

boy was cute!

To become human on land, all I need to do is slip a ring on and I’ll be human. Every princess has this ring made for them once, this they definitely can’t give away.

You can give your pearl away to someone to save their life but you must get it back in order to fulfill your princess duties.

You might be thinking, why don’t you just find the guy you saved and tell him you were the one? I wish it was! It’s not that easy, legend says if a princess

does that, she’ll disappear right in the spot forever. I’m not risking that!

Anyway, yes, Kris is the boy I saved. I wonder if he recognized me, the only way for him to find out that I’m the one is for him to realize it’s me.

“Eunmi!” I ran through the house yelling her name. “I found him! His name is Kris!” I said.

Eunmi popped out of her room. “Claire, really? You sure? Remember that guy from the states? His name was what? Matt? Or something? You claimed he was the one but apparently not.”

“I am so serious, he has my pearl. He’s wearing it around his neck.” I said.

My guardian Joe popped out of nowhere. He’s pretty cool; he can breathe under water and turn into anything. “Excuse me girls, what?”
