Lovesick

"Why do you keep trying?" She ventured in the dreadful silence engulfing the disparate pair, her shawl snugly fastened across her bony shoulders, her neck prudishly angled from his corner. 

Nodding his head, he tried to stave the smile that desperately yearned to stretch across his mouth. "Can you honestly blame me?"

A bark of hollow laughter rang from her raspy throat. "It's tiresome."

Smoothly, he rapt the top of her spine, induced a shiver, and her sharp hiss of "Stop", her poorly hinted threat crushed with the sensation of his breath along the nape of her neck. "Are you always going to keep me out like this?"

"Stop it, Jongin!" Fuming at his impudent actions, she turned to strike the lilt from his tone, except, she fell into his embrace, his arms secure, tender, loving. Fresh tears prodded her wide-eyed countenance, her lips quivered in the unrecognizable warmth. 

"I'm sorry I let him hurt you, Minji. I'm so sorry." As an afterthought, the acquisitive man croaked, "But, can't I help you pick up the pieces  again?" The pieces of your shattered heart. 

Somehow resistant to his personal charges and claims, but not the support of his body, she clawed into his shoulders, hardly audible pleas filtering through the thickness of his skull. "Stop, Jongin. Just stop." 

Wobbly legs strained and caved, Minji sliding to her knees, Jongin smoothly following after her, the man ignorant of her disagreeable mouth.

"Can't I hold you? Kiss you? Cheer you? Can't I do it all with you?"

Brittle, and thoroughly rattled from the last relationship, she snapped, "Enough." 

"But I love you."

Unsure of his words she froze in his hold. 

Weakly, he persisted, "Can't I love you?"

Comprehending his proposal, she gaped, "Jongin."

"I love you, Minji."

Gentle utterances, laced with utmost sincerity, promised her everything he could offer her. "I'll say it as many times as you need to hear it - I love you. I love you. I love you."

She cracked, her cries lost in the folds of his shirt.
