Date 5

Just Give Me Ten Dates

Daesung jumped into the car with a radiant smile. “Hey!” he greeted him excitedly. “Hey back at ya.” Seunghyun said coolly as he started the car.

“So where are we going?” Daesung asked with interest.

“It's a secret.” Seunghyun smirked.

“Where are we going?” Daesung repeated stubbornly, barely containing the giggles.

“It's a secret.” Seunghyun reiterated patiently.

“Where are we going?” Daesung said again, now in a monotonous tone, indicating that he was prepared to continue this forever, or until he would get an answer.

“Daesung-ah..” Seunghyun started in a reproachful tone.

“What?” he asked innocently, like he had no clue what this was about.

“Nothing.” Seunghyun snorted. Daesung was clearly in high spirits, so there was nothing to stop him and his annoying jokes. Except, Seunghyun hardly ever found them annoying. That was a secret he would never reveal to Daesung though, since who would want to pull annoying jokes when you knew the other person never got annoyed? So Seunghyun played along, acting like he was annoyed, but instead enjoying every moment.

“Where are we going?” Daesung started again.

“It's a secret.” Seunghyun sighed.

And that was how the whole ride over went.

“Woa! An ice rink!!” Daesung exclaimed as he got out of the car, his eyes sparkling. “But.. wont there be a lot of teenagers there, teenagers that know exactly who we are?” he added, biting his lip at the thought of getting run over by a mob of teenage girls. Seunghyun said nothing, grabbing his wrist and pulling him after him towards the entrance. Daesung reluctantly followed, not convinced that this was a safe plan. Seunghyun chuckled to himself, anticipation building up in his chest.

“Why is it so dark?” Daesung whispered as the door closed behind them, taking with it the last few rays of light. Seunghyun could feel Daesung's hands searching for something to hold on to, winding around his upper arm like a tentacle preparing to latch on. He shook him off before it was too late. Not because he minded having his own Daesung octopus on his arm, quite the contrary. But he had to find the light switch, and the moment of reveal wouldn't be as dramatic for Daesung if he took him with him.

“Hyuuung, come back! I'm scared!” Daesung whimpered. “There might be ghosts!” he yelled, his voice shaking as the darkness swallowed it. It made him want to run right back, take him in his arms and whisper into his ear that everything was going to be okay, that hyung was here, he would take care of him. But he resisted the urge. He had gone to way too much trouble to ruin the defining moment of the date.

“Please work.” he mumbled as he flipped the main light switch, crossing his fingers that it wouldn't short out and leave them permanently in the dark.

As the thousands upon thousands of Christmas lights lit up the huge ice rink, creating a warm, romantic atmosphere, he could hear Daesung's gasp even though he was standing all the way on the other side of the building. Seunghyun grinned, satisfied. That was the reaction he had been aiming for. Ah, that was one less thing to worry about. Creating an epic date was no joke, no wonder they only did that in the movies. There they had an entire staff at their disposal to do the legwork, specialists and what not. Seunghyun had stayed up half the night with the maintenance ahjussi, hanging up and connecting every single string of lights by hand.

The poor maintenance ahjussi. He had taken pity on him, not having a clue what he had been signing up for. But just as well, he would never have managed to finish this by himself, not in a million years. That, and he hadn't had a clue how the electric system worked, nearly electrocuting himself before the maintenance ahjussi gave him a crash course in the basics of electric wiring. It had actually been more interesting than he would have imagined, he had learned quite a lot. Not that he had much use for that knowledge, it was not like he was going to set up something like this every week or anything. Once was plenty.

After they had finished, the maintenance ahjussi had handed him the keys, wishing him luck. He thought he was doing all this to propose to his girlfriend. He had just let him think that, it wasn't that far off anyway.

“Where is everyone?” Daesung asked flabbergasted when he returned. “It's all ours!” he announced proudly, stretching his arms out as far as they would go. “You rented it for the entire day?” Daesung asked incredulously, disbelief governing his face. Seunghyun nodded proudly, glad that he had been able to impress him.

“And you.. you did all this.. for me?” Daesung added in a small voice after a moment of silence, looking around at all the lights. He looked moved, like he couldn't believe anyone would go to so much trouble just for him. Seunghyun almost got annoyed at him. He was always so modest, which was one of the qualities he liked the best about him, but sometimes it was just too much. He was a world famous idol with thousands, no, hundreds of thousands of fans, so how could he be so surprised that someone would go to a tinsy bit of trouble to woo him. Ahh, babo. Amazingly sweet babo!

“Nahh, I'm just getting old, I needed a bit of extra light.” Seunghyun winked, smiling sheepishly. Daesung snorted, shaking his head, still dazzled by all the lights. “Come on, babo-ya, let's get our skates on!” Seunghyun chuckled, ruffling his hair roughly, pushing him towards the lockers.

While Daesung was busy figuring out what was what on his skates, Seunghyun found the remote where he had left it the night before. He pushed play, music filling the air with magic.

'Now, I've had, the time of my life..'

“Hyuuuuuung..” Daesung looked at him like he was out of his mind, a disapproving scowl glued to his face. “What? It's more fun to skate to music! It's not my fault if the ice rink music coordinator has super cheesy taste.” he fibbed. He had made the music mix himself. He had perhaps gone a tad bit overboard with the romance theme. He realized now that it would have been a better idea to ease into it, but it was too late to worry about that now. It would be alright. Some skating and two or three more songs would surely get them in the right mood. It wasn't just any mood he was after, for today wasn't just any old day. It was a day that would remain in their memories for years to come.

Today was the day they would have their first kiss.
