Date 4 (4)

Just Give Me Ten Dates

He was so close, but yet so far away. Seunghyun wanted to run his fingers through his hair, to put his hand on his shoulder, to pinch his cheeks. Even though Daesung complained every time he did something like that, he knew he secretly appreciated the thought behind those actions, that it was Seunghyun's way of saying 'Fighting!'. Those tiny little expressions of affection that had been no big deal before he had confessed, but were now so loaded with meaning that it only put more pressure on Daesung rather than relieving it as was their original purpose.

The fear of pushing him further away was eating at him, gnawing through his bones, making him doubt his every move. Instead of successfully showing Daesung how good they actually were together, which was best accomplished by just being himself and having fun, he was drifting further and further into the abyss of self doubt, over-analysing every word, every breath, every mini-expression, making it impossible to act normal.

What was Daesung thinking? What was going through that perfectly shaped head of his? If only he could take a sneak peek into his mind. Just a short visit, dropping by the Seunghyun-file cabinet and perusing through his recorded thoughts on him, the list of his top ten offenses, his top 10 qualities, basic stuff. Even though he might not like what he found, he still wanted to read it. It was always dangerous to see people's uncensored feelings, raw and to the point, no societal common sense airbag to soften the blow. But he still wanted to know. Not knowing was the worst part. The fear of what could be was usually more terrifying than what really was.

“Hyung!!” Daesung interrupted his thought process. It was a welcome distraction. “Mm?” he answered, smiling gently.

“Jiyong hyung!” he presented proudly in a TA-DA!-like-voice, a wide grin covering the length of his face. It was a beautiful, flashy fish that was impossible not to notice and admire. It was perfect. To show his agreement he snapped a photo of it on his phone.

As he turned around, Seunghyun noticed a tank with a swarm of tiny little fishes. There was a hole on top of it. The sign above it planted an evil seed in his brain that quickly started growing into an idea. A wicked idea. He smirked. This was just what they needed, he needed. An exciting distraction.

“Daesung-aaaaah.” he sang softly. Daesung peered his eyes, catching on a little too quickly. “Whatever it is, I'm not doing it!” he stated firmly. “Oh come on, let's have a little fun.” he smirked, looking him straight in the eyes, throwing a line out, trying to catch his curiosity. Daesung bit his lip, looking away for a moment and then returning his stare. “What kind of fun?” he asked skeptically, not able to resist the playful look Seunghyun was sending him.

“Close your eyes.” Seunghyun told him, trying to maintain a straight face. “No way! You'll do something weird, you always do something weird!” Daesung protested. “Oh well, your loss.” he shrugged lifelessly and took a few listless steps down the hall. Daesung's hand stopped him. He turned around to face a very torn Daesung. “If I do this, do you PROMISE you won't do anything weird?” he asked, he was clearly acting against his own better judgment. “Define weird.” Seunghyun chuckled. “See! You're definitely going to do something weird!!” he protested, crossing his arms, putting up an invisible shield.

“How's this... I promise I will only touch your wrist, and it will just be to guide you around so you won't run face first into something. We wouldn't want that pretty little mug of yours to get all black and blue now would we. Your fans would kill me.” he joked in a pouty-baby-voice, patting the top of his head. Daesung carefully weighed his options before agreeing to the said conditions. They shook on it. Seunghyun squeezed his hand a bit more than was needed, just because he could.

Daesung obeyed and closed his eyes, peeking once really quickly to make sure Seunghyun didn't do anything rash. After making sure he couldn't see anything by waving his hand in front of his face, Seunghyun grabbed his wrist. “See. I'm keeping my promise.” he said in a soothing voice. “Now take two steps forward.” he instructed, guiding his hand so that it would land right over the hole on the fish tank. This was going to be good. “Okay, stop! This is good. Now I'm going to slowly let go of your hand.” he said, making sure it went down the opening of the hole.

“WAAAAHHHH!!” Daesung squealed the second his fingertips touched the water. His reaction was so instantaneous and forceful that Seunghyun lost his grip on his wrist. Darn it! Now he would never be able to get him to do it, he thought disappointedly, his heart sinking. “I knew you were going to do something weird, I freakin' knew it!” Daesung jumped around, shaking his hand like it had touched acid or something even worse. “Don't get your in a twist, it's just water.” Seunghyun smirked. “Yeah.. water WITH FISH IN IT!!” Daesung added in a dramatic voice, like Seunghyun had committed the ultimate betrayal.

“Mmm, flesh eating fish.” Seunghyun added in a deep voice, just like the villain in a movie. “Ha ha, very funny.” Daesung retorted, giving the tiny fishies a furtive look. “No, for real. See.” he pointed at the sign. Daesung's jaw dropped to the floor, shattering into a million pieces. He looked at Seunghyun with fire in his eyes, the hurt showing through. He couldn't believe Seunghyun was about to do that to him when he had ignored his instincts for him, trusting him even though he knew he shouldn't. And that was how he repaid him! Seunghyun could read every accusation he was making from the expression on his face.

Seunghyun got a pang of guilt, but it was not like he had put him in harms way. It was actually good for your skin and skin care was one of Daesung's passions. Ah. He should have lead with that. “Read further. It's supposed to do wonders for your skin. They only eat like the dead skin cells, so your skin will be all rejuvenated and healthy afterwards.” he tried. “Huh? No way.” Daesung read the rest of the sign in disbelief. He calmed down a bit, but was still on edge. “But.. but... it's creepy.” he frowned.

“You try it first.” Daesung finally decided. Seunghyun looked at the tank, it really gave him the creeps too. “Rock Paper Scissors?” he offered, hoping Daesung would take the bait. “Okay...” Daesung hesitated. “Okay! One game and the loser sticks his hand in there. Losing is the same as promising to do it, no take-backs!” Seunghyun insisted, he so had this in the bag. He just had to time it right. It was like taking candy from a baby. “What do you say? Too scared I'm going to sweep the floor with you?” he teased, trying to get him all worked up so he would lose his cool. “Oh please, I can beat you in my sleep!” Daesung said with theatrical confidence, grinning back at him.
