Out for a spin!

More Than Just A J.Tunes Probee

There was a company car out front of J. Tunes waiting to drive me home. I still couldn’t believe I had come in first place with my first-ever performance.

A group of my friends followed me out. “You did awesome! You deserved to win! Enjoy your weekend off!” They waved to me as I drove off.

I arrived home shortly before 10:30pm.  My dad had called ahead to let my step-mom know.

She greeted me warmly at the door with a hug. “Well done, Seungri! Your dad was so excited on the phone. He said he would be home as quickly as he can... Go up and get settled. I’ll call you when he gets in.” She gave me a quick peck on my cheek as she released me.

I headed up to my room and got changed into comfortable clothes. I grabbed my cellphone off my desk. I text Taewan to let him know I had won my freedom this weekend and that I was home.

J: ‘Want to meet up 2moro?’                T: ‘Sure. My place. 11am.

J:  ‘K’                                                        T: ‘Got to show u my new toy’

J:  ‘CU’

I stretched out on my bed and yawned.  What a rollercoaster day!   Sorry, Dad. I was done. Then the sandman came calling.

“Oppa! Oppa! You’re here, again!” Someone was jumping up and down on my bed, doing their very best to wake me up. “Appa told me to bring you downstairs because Eomma has made you your favourite breakfast.”

She jumped on my stomach.

“Ouch! Sunhee! Get off me, now!” I howled. “Before you regret it.”

She slid off me and my bed, grabbed a handful of my blankets and ran out my door. Leaving both, Jaihee and I in her wake. She was definitely my sibling, no two ways about it.

I swung my legs over the edge of my bed and yawned loudly. “Well, Buddy...” I held out my hands towards my little brother. “Care to help your Hyung up.”

He giggled, then ran over to me and grabbed my hands tightly. “Hana...duel...set!” and we were off to the races.

I sat down for breakfast with Jaihee on my lap. Sunhee sat across the table from me and gave Jaihee dirty looks. I just ignored her.

My dad entered the room, walked over and gave my shoulder a little squeeze and then bent down and gave Jaihee a kiss on his head. “Good morning, boys! I see my little messenger was successful.”

He winked at Sunhee. She smiled at him but stuck her tongue out at Jaihee and me.

“Sunhee! That’s not a polite thing to do to your Oppa or dongseung.”My father stated.

“Neither is jumping up and down on my stomach when I’m asleep or running off with all my blankets.” I stated as well.

She was going to stick her tongue out again, but thought better. “You told me to wake him up, Appa...  And I did.”

My dad was in a wonderful mood. He helped my step-mom with breakfast. He served me first, even though my grandfather was there. “In Celebration for your Victory last night. Enjoy!”

It was what I call a ‘Traditional Canadian breakfast’: Two fried eggs over medium, Canadian bacon, sausages, fried hash-browned potatoes, pancakes with maple syrup and a big glass of OJ to wash it down with.

I thanked my step-mom for a delicious meal and asked my dad if I could go to Taewan’s for a couple of hours. It was fine as long as one of the security guys drove me over.

                                                            …

It had been ages since I had been over at Taewan’s house. His mother couldn’t believe how much I had grown.

“Good lord, Seungri! You are your father’s son.” She gave my bottom a quick little pat as I went by her.

“Mom... You’re embarrassing him and me.”Taewan grabbed me by the arm and led me away, before she could do anything else to me.

I bowed to her as he pulled me back out the front door. “It’s nice to see you, too. Ajuma.”

We headed around out back of his house and found a nice secluded spot and sat on the grass. I told him all about my last week’s adventures and about last night.

“So, I guess you have some of your father’s talent after all. First place! Who would’ve believed you were even capable a couple of months ago when you were off in exile.” He teased me.

"Hey...Speaking about your exile. Did you ever find out why your father went totally mental?  What was the threat? Who made it?” Taewan asked. "I remember that time you called from your grandparents place..." He gave an involuntary shiver as he recalled that event. "My dad was livid, demanded to know what I had told you. He wasn't too pleased that I knew as much as I did... He was pretty thorough in expressing that point over and over again on my poor rear end."

"Sorry about that...you always said I was a big pain in your..." I didn't have the chance to finish my statement as one of his hands shot out and covered my mouth and the other had me in a headlock down on the grass of his father's estate.

"Don't you dare!!" he growled in my ear. I quickly nodded. Okay...I admit that was kind of low. I held up the peace sign.

He released his hold. "Sometime you can be a real prick."  And shoved me away.

"Seriously, I'm sorry." I did a polite bow. "Like my father keeps telling me, my mouth is my main problem."

"The only thing I was told about the whole incident was that it was a direct threat on me." I dusted myself off as I sat up. "Sure I can't hire you as my personal bodyguard?"

He tried to maintain his pissed off look but failed. "Like I said... a real prick."

"Hey...you should feel honoured that you made my list of important people I wanted to see." I punched him in the shoulder. "My time is valuable."

"Yeah...Right! ...I can see you're learning to be modest! Your dad must be sooo proud."

"Have you eaten lunch yet? My treat.  I'm dying for a meat pizza with extra cheese." I stood up and offered Taewan my hand to pull him up.

He grabbed it. "I could go for Pizzas. What about Lee Joon?"

"Of course! I'll give him a shout." I quickly punched in his home number. It rang and rang. "No answer?"

"I'll call and see what the problem is? I know he's home." Taewan fished out his phone. "Hey friend! ...Feel like Pizza? ...Good... Meet you at the usual place? Say in a half-in-hour...Okay...See you there." He ended the call.

“We're all set... Guess what I got in your absence? My dad isn't too happy about it, but I bought it with my own money." He was all smiles.

"A car?" the only thing I could think of that would worry his dad.

"Not quite, but close...a scooter! I really wanted a motorcycle but my dad almost had a cow...so I settled for a scooter...it's a start. It sure beats riding a bike or begging my hyung for a lift." He headed off in the direction of their garage.  "Want to go for a spin?"

"I'd love to...my security might have something to say about it. He's waiting out in front." I motioned over my shoulder to his direction.

"He can just follow behind...That's a no brainer." He entered his code into the keypad and open one of the garage doors. "Come on. Don't be a wus."

He walked over to his shiny new toy, grabbed a helmet and tossed it to me. "Safety first.... Let's go." He quickly put another helmet on his head and sat down on his scooter. "Waiting!"

I let out a sigh.  I knew I should have informed security before we pulled out but they would have been against it.

So off we went, me behind Taewan.  As we passed my security, I waved at him. His eyes bulged out and he started the car.

"I told you, he would follow." Taewan shouted.

As I looked back over my shoulder, I could see him driving behind us. He must have been talking on his Bluetooth because his lips were moving and I could see the occasional nod.

I had to admit it was fun riding the scooter.  Maybe I should get one.

We pulled to a stop outside the pizza place.  "What did you think?" Taewan asked.

"I might have to get one, too." I handed him the helmet. "Quick...let's head in before I get hauled off."

The restaurant was fairly busy at this time of the day.  We had beaten Lee Joon there, so we grabbed a booth.  Taewan sat so he was visible. Lee Joon was a few minutes behind us, and waved to Taewan.

"So ...To what do I owe this honour" he said as he was about to sit across from Taewan.

"Holy Mackerel! Where'd you'd find this long-lost fossil?" He grabbed and hugged me. He squeezed me so hard that I heard something pop. "Boy... Seungri, we haven't seen you for ages and now here you are again, after just over a week.”

“I've missed you, too." I punched him on the shoulder. "What's new in your world?"

"Nothing compared to yours! Look at you! Christ! You seem to be growing overnight. You've filled out, even more. Your shoulders are as wide as Taewan's." He gawked at me. "Let me know when J. Tunes has their next enrollment, I should try-out too. If you haven't been kicked out yet, I might have a chance too."

We ordered two large pizzas, one meat lovers with extra cheese and one monster mash (everything but the kitchen sink).  We ate, talked and laughed ourselves silly.

"How's Sulli doing? Have you made your move yet?" Lee Joon asked.

"To be honest, she’s been tutoring me most evenings to get me caught up" I shook myself. "All the guys are in love with her. Probees, Trainees and even some of the pros are always looking for her. Asking for her number.  The crazy thing is, we aren't allowed Cell phones, so why ask??"

"She has won almost every weekend off. I think she came in second last night, so the other girls won’t hate her. She is good at everything, but she still keeps her girl-next-door attitude."

"So, what your plans for the rest of your free weekend?" Taewan asked.

"I've got to head home for dinner and some bonding time with my dongseungs. Maybe a movie tomorrow, if you're free? I don't have to be back until Monday morning's Academy."

I paid the bill and we headed out.  The three of us walked over to Taewan's new scooter still laughing and talking.  I noticed my security guy was getting out of his parked car. He didn't look very happy.

"Well... It's been a real slice. Hope to see you tomorrow? ... But I think my parole is going to be revoked. I'd better go willingly." With that, I turned and walked over to the car and he opened the backdoor.

"Later!" I shouted then got in.
