JYJ- In Heaven

Xiumin sat on his bed, not moving an inch.

His room had been transformed to a winter wonderland.

Icicles hung from the ceiling and chandelier.

Snow was floating around the room, landing everywhere.

Everything in his room was hidden underneath a thick layer of snow, except for Xiumin himself.

A tear rolled down his cheek and the cold winds that carried the snow grew harsher.

From the day Eun Mi died, he never spoke a single word.

He was shocked; traumatized.

His loss was too great for any of the others to comprehend.

You left me.  You promised; you said you’d stay by my side forever.  You said you’d love me no matter what.

More tears came out, it snowed even harder.

Out of all the pains that Xiumin had faced, this was the greatest.

YOU PROMISED ME!  YOU SAID YOU WOULD NEVER LEAVE ME.  YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME.  YOU SAID YOU WOULD ALWAYS LOVE ME.

Xiumin screamed in his mind all the words that he could not speak.

Tears came down faster and harder.

Snow and cold Artic winds swirled around him, engulfing him in what seemed to be a snowstorm.

YOU PROMISED.  YOU PROMISED ME.

The more he chanted the words in his mind, the more the tears flowed out, and the more the snowstorm seemed to swirl around him.

Xiumin clutched onto his heart and let out a cry.

The snowstorm halted, and the snow instantly fell to the ground.

“Oppa…” he heard a sweet voice call out.

With blurry eyes, Xiumin looked up.

He could only see the outline of a girl in a blue dress.

He blinked away the tears and sniffled.

He opened his eyes again.

Eun Mi…

His love, was there, standing right in front of him.

She was wearing his favorite color.

Her hair was in a braid, off to the side, with a black hat he had gotten for her 17th birthday.

Oppa…” Eun Mi called out again.

For the first time after her death, Xiumin spoke.

E-eun Mi-ah” he croaked out.

Oppa!”  Tears welled in her eyes.

Eun Mi-ah!”  Xiumin cried out.  He jumped out of bed and ran over to embrace her.

Eun Mi let out a cry.  “Oppa!

He hugged her with all his might, but she felt hollow.

Tears streamed down her face.

Xiumin wouldn’t let go.

Oppa!”  Eun Mi sobbed into Xiumin’s shoulder.

Xiumin cried tears of joy.

Eun Mi-ah!”  He said lovingly.

Finally, he pulled away to look at her face.

“You got thinner,” he placed a hand on her cheek.

She shivered.

“You’re so cold…” Xiumin whispered.

Eun Mi looked away.

“You used to be so warm.”  Xiumin hugged her again.

Oppa…” Eun Mi called out.

“You left me…” Xiumin accused.

Eun Mi’s voice cracked.  “Oppa.”

“YOU LEFT ME,” Xiumin repeated, squeezing Eun Mi.

Oppa” she choked out.

“YOU PROMISED ME THAT YOU’D NEVER LEAVE ME”  Xiumin stated, squeezing her even harder now.

Op-” Eun Mi couldn’t even finish her word.  Xiumin was squeezing her so hard that air couldn’t enter her lungs.

“You said you loved me…” He whispered, loosening his grip.

No reply.

Eun Mi-ah,” Xiumin shook her, still in his embrace.

Eun Mi-ah.  Baby?”  Xiumin panicked and he looked Eun Mi.

She lost consciousness and slumped down to the floor.

Her clothes changed.

Her hair changed.

Everything changed.

She was in a hospital gown, with the horrible dotted pattern.

There were white bandages wrapped around her arms, legs, neck and head.

A big bandage was wrapped thickly around her neck.

She was paler.

Eun Mi tilted her head up to look at Xiumin.

No….. this can’t be happening again.

Xiumin slowly stuck a hand out towards her.

Eun Mi looked at him with the same fearful eyes.

Her breathing quickened.

“NO!  DON’T TOUCH ME!”  She screamed, backing away from him like he was the plague.

No… This can’t happen again.  I won’t let it.

Xiumin’s eyes flashed an icy blue.

“YOU MONSTER!  NO!  NO!”

Eun Mi’s words pierced through his heart.

“STAY AWAY!  GET OUT!”

Suddenly, something came flying towards him.

It went through his arm like air.

Xiumin was transported to a hospital room.

Eun Mi had backed away to the corner of the bed.

The stench of scrubs and medicine hung in the air.

The iv needle was still in Eun Mi’s arm.

Xiumin’s breathing grew faster and faster.

Not this again.  Please.  Not this.  Please.

Eun Mi-ah”  ‘Eun Mi-ah

Xiumin froze at the sound of his own voice.

What’s going on…

Another Xiumin stood next to Xiumin.

He looked to his left and saw himself dressed in a grey hoodie and dark blue jeans.

That’s what I wore...on the day I went to go visit Eun Mi at the hospital.

‘Eun Mi-ah’  The past Xiumin called out.

Xiumin watched this heartbreaking scene, not that he had a choice.

‘GET AWAY FROM ME.  GET OUT!  YOU’RE A MONSTER!’ Eun Mi screamed, throwing a pillow at the past Xiumin.

Xiumin watched with mournful eyes.

The past Xiumin let the pillow hit him and then drop to the floor.

Xiumin looked at Eun Mi’s face.

She looked so frightened.

Her face was smaller and thinner.

Her eye bags were more prominent.  It looked as if she hadn’t slept in years.

Her beautiful brown hair was messy and tangled.

The bandages were still tightly wound around her injuries.

Eun Mi-ah’ called out past Xiumin.

‘GET AWAY FROM ME YOU FREAK!’ Eun Mi yelled, throwing her other pillow.

Her words pierced his heart yet again.

Eun Mi-ah  I love you so much.  Please don’t do this,’ pleaded past Xiumin.

‘Was it fun?  Playing with me?  PRETENDING THAT YOU LOVED ME?  DID YOU LIKE IT?  YOU AND YOUR BROTHERS ARE FREAKS.  MONSTERS. BEASTS. DON'T COME NEAR ME!' Eun Mi screamed at past Xiumin.

Eun Mi went hysterical.  She screamed and yanked on all the chords in the room.

She even ripped out the iv needle attached to her arm.

Past Xiumin stayed, feet glued to the floor.

The nurses flooded in, trying to calm Eun Mi down.

They ushered Xiumin out and told him that he couldn’t visit anymore, for the sake of the patient’s well being.

Xiumin couldn’t take it anymore.

He heard Eun Mi’s screams again and again.

They echoed in his mind.

Xiumin clutched his head, covering his ears and let out a scream.

He fell to the ground.

“I’m sorry!  I’m sorry!”  Xiumin cried out.

Snow fell again.

Tears of guilt and sorrow rushed out.

The cold winds returned.

Xiumin balled himself up on the floor like a fetus and repeatedly cried out apologies.

He couldn’t hear anything except for Eun Mi’s voice and painful screams.

“I’M SO SORRY!” bawled Xiumin.

A picture of Eun Mi’s dead body on the cold slab down inside the morgue flashed before his eyes.

“AHHHHHHHHHH!”  Xiumin screamed, clutching his head even harder.

His tears came out like a river.

The wind and snow swirled around him again.

It grew faster and faster.

Xiumin felt like he was suffocating.

Room 217

Patient:  Lee Eun Mi

Status:  (Intensive Care Unit)  Deceased

Those were the last words he saw before he faded back into the snowstorm.

Xiumin whimpered on the floor.

He shivered.

Streaks of his tears were found all over his face.

D.O. raised a mound of dirt up from the cement balcony floors and sat on his chair of earth.

He looked up at the stars, feeling the breeze blow through his hair.

Sehun must be listening to music.

Unlike his brothers, D.O. cried easily.

After Eun Mi came along, he vowed never to cry again so that he could be a stronger man for the both of them.

“Kyungie, you cried didn’t you?”

D.O.  turned his head to the right.

Eun Mi was sitting on the ledge, dressed in her pajamas, her hair in two pigtails.

J-jagi” he stuttered, shocked.

“Do D. O.!”  giggled Eun Mi.

She loved his last name.  Do.

J-jagi” repeated D.O.

“Look at your eyes.  They’re all red and puffy.  You cried again didn’t you?”  Eun Mi hopped off the ledge and walked towards him.

“N-no” he lied.

“Liar!  Don’t you dare lie to me Do Kyungsoo!”  Eun Mi pointed a finger at the older.

“I p-promise!  I didn’t cry!”  D.O. would have rather taken a stake to the heart then tell Eun Mi he cried.

“Are you sure?”

“I swear on my life!” D.O. raised a hand.

Eun Mi nodded and smiled.

“That’s good.  Usually you would swear on my life, but technically, I’m no longer alive,” Eun Mi replied.

D.O. teared up.

He was the first one to accept her death.

It hit Exo hard, but it only took D.O. two weeks to understand that Eun Mi was no longer with them.

“You’re so brave” Eun Mi whispered to him.

D.O. gaped at her.

Me?  Brave?

“You were the first one to accept my death right?  You helped the others move on,” Eun Mi continued.

D.O. nodded his head.

“And you were brave enough to keep our promise.  Jong In Oppa didn’t keep our promise.”

Eun Mi looked up at the sky with sad eyes.

Jong In Oppa cried on the night of my death.  He was the first one to cry… right?

Eun Mi looked to D.O. for confirmation.

Actually, it was me.  I cried first.  Kai took the fall for me.  I had to keep my promise.  I had to.

“Y-yeah,” D.O. looked away.

“That’s...good.  I suppose.  At least I know he misses me.”

Eun Mi turned back around to stare at the moon.

“We all miss you” whispered D.O.

No reply came from Eun Mi.

Eun Mi heaved out a sigh and nodded.

“I suppose you do” she answered, standing on the top of the ledge.

J-jagi,” stammered D.O.  “W-what are you doing?  Get down from there.  You’re going to get hurt.”

Eun Mi let out a laugh.

“Nothing can hurt me now Kyungsoo.  Not even Exo” she morbidly replied.

“W-what do you mean?”

D.O. was frightened by her tone.

“You lied to me Do Kyungsoo.  In more ways than one.  And now, I’m dead.  Good thing the dead don’t have promises.  They leave those up to the living, but in you and Exo’s case, the undead.”

Eun Mi smirked and jumped off the ledge.

“NO!”  D.O. screamed.  He rushed over to the ledge, but Eun Mi was gone.

Xiumin drew his knees back to his chest as he laid on his side again.

He had run out of tears, but his mind had a never ending supply of Eun Mi’s screams and painful words.

He squeezed his eyes shut and clutched onto his head again.

“AHHHHH!” he yelled out once again.

D.O. slid down, his back to the balcony walls.

He put a hand to his forehead in distress.

A tear slipped down his face.

Then another.

And another.

“I broke our promise.  I’m sorry” D.O. whispered to the wind.

D.O. broke down into sobs.

I’m sorry.

But their desperate cries would never reach her.
