Chapter 11

Sweets to the Sweet

   Saturday, December 18th
   11:30 am
   Wedding Grounds

Jinyoung was surprised at how many things Suzy still had to co-ordinate on the day of the wedding. She still had to direct people where to go and what to do, on top of greeting all the guests who had arrvied, and told the guards where to let the media set up before barring anyone else from coming in. The moment of the dreaded talk had finally come when Suzy had again grabbed Jinyoung's wrist and dragged him with her into Suzy's Bridal room of Hiding (+5 to stealth). Turning on her expensive heels, Suzy crossed her arms and sized up Jinyoung, a neutral expression on her face. Wanting to ease the tension in the room, Jinyoung spoke first.

"Is... Is everything okay?" Jinyoung started, unnerved by the piercing gaze of the woman standing in front of him.

"What are you playing at with Channie?" Suzy said blunty, shifting her weight all to her right leg, her left foot tapping against the tiled floor.

"E-excuse me?" Jinyoung choked out, startled by Suzy's straightforwardness and rather sudden curtness.

"You heard me. What are you playing at with my Channie? I will not allow you to sit there and let him build up his trust in you, only from you to break him bit by bit. He doesn't deserve that from anyone ever again, especially from you." Suzy spat, obviously fiercely devoted to her childhood best friend.

"Hey! Suzy, I have no intention of ever hurting Gongchan." Jinyoung argued back, eyebrows furrowing, feeling hurt and a little betrayed that Suzy would think that Jinyoung would be up to something like this. Suzy, tilting her head and smirking, was able to read Jinyoung's expression and read his thoughts, so to speak.

"Then can you tell me how you feel about him?" Suzy asked, obviously the one directing the conversation in the direction that she wants it to go. Jinyoung opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

   "I..."

He couldn't explain what he felt for his pup. He knew he liked Gongchan, but he didn't know in what way. Being able to say that he loved Gongchan was an enormous task, especially given the fact that Jinyoung had no idea what he even felt.

"Jin. Protecting Channie's heart will always be foremost in my mind. You do not want me as an enemy, even if you have Baro to back you up. I'm not trying to be a here, but..." Suzy started, walking forward and put her hand on Jinyoung's shoulder and mustered up a weak smile, "break my baby's heart, and I'll break you."

Jinyoung stood there, stunned, as Suzy started to walk past him. This time it was Jinyoung's turn to spin around and grab Suzy's wrist.

"Wait!" Jinyoung couldn't help but almost shout, "... Can I ask for your advice...?"

Suzy smirked. He took the bait, she thought.

To Minho, Suzy had never been more beautiful than she had when she was walking down the aisle, arm in arm with her father as he gave her away. Gongchan and Jinyoung also made a note of the angelic air that seemed to exude from the heavenly bride. As she parted with her father and ascended the altar, Suzy turned and stared straight into Minho's chocolate brown eyes and let a faint smile blossom on her face. Breathing out a sigh, the first thought since she took the first step towards the altar formed in her head.

Today's the day I become one with him. Suzy silently cried, so many emotions raging inside her.

Today's the day I spend the rest of my life with her radiant beauty... Minho mused, a warm smile automatically and quickly bursting to the forefront of his face as he reciprocated his very soon-to-be wife's tender smile. He too, had a torrent of emotions waging war inside the pit of his stomach.

The couple turned to face the priest to whom they both bowed and received a bow in turn. Upon the priest's declaration that they have their own vows to recite, he took a step back to let the couple turn their focus back towards each other and allow their hearts to mingle and connect.

"Suzy..." Minho started, sheepishly staring down at his feet before looking into the face of the woman he cherishes more than anything else in his life, including his own. "When our eyes met, years ago, I felt something for you. The intense beating of my heart, like my life a song and my heart the driving beat behind it.  The first time we ever held hands, I felt as though my heart had stopped beating. What restarted it was not my own frantic feelings, but the smile you gave when you turned and beamed at me. When we first kissed, I thought that I had died and gone to heaven. What I feel towards you is nothing short of total and utter love. To me, you're the reason my heart beats every day, the reason I draw breath. I vow to you that I will be here with you, by your side, for as long as my heart beats for you, and as long as I draw breath for you."

Suzy in a shaky breath, Minho's vows making her want to sob into his arms. Releasing the air she held in her chest, she pressed forth with her vows.

"Minho. That word itself, to me, symbolizes a brilliant, blazing flame. Warm, supporting, life-giving. Stunningly beautiful, dangerously ferocious, spectacularly fiery. Each of the words I spoke, also symbolize the love I feel for you, each day growing more brilliant and ever more beautiful. To me, you are the fire that fills my being. Without your love, I would be nothing but a cold, empty cask; waiting to be filled with something more precious than liquid gold..." Suzy's voice trailed off, silent tears trickling down her face as she tried her absolute best to sum up her feelings for her soul's eternal mate. "To you, I vow to remain ever present by your side, to remain faithful until the day this cask can no longer hold its cargo and must retire itself."

With a round of applause for both the bride and groom on their golden speeches, Suzy and Minho chuckled, embraced, and then turned back to the priest. The rest was rather quick, and just a formality. The couple became man and wife, kissed, and were cocooned in a wave of light from the flashes of cameras from both the press, and happy guests. Following this, it was time for EXO's performance of one of their most famous ballads, "Angel". Successfully bringing both Suzy and Minho to tears as they embraced and kissed, they were again blanketed with flashes from cameras as they cut the first piece of cake and fed each other, at which point the couple then began to socialize with their guests before retreating away.

Knowing this to be the time in which they make their escape, the newly-bound family made their leave, Jinyoung and Gongchan in tow. Gongchan had initally protested as he had no idea what was happening, but then was reassured by Suzy's mother's cooing and the leak that they were retreating into the inner sanctum, located at the heart of the gardens and restricted to only those with clearance. At this present moment, that list only included Suzy, Minho, their respective families, Gongchan, and finally Jinyoung.

Finally approaching the table, Gongchan could spy Suzy and Minho already seated, enjoying their first meal as a married couple. Greeting Suzy and giving her a small peck on the cheek, Gongchan sat himself down next to Suzy, with Jinyoung flanking his right side. Not only was he surprised by the simple elegance of a carved dark wood table and white cloth, but he was immensely startled by how it seemingly changed from day to night as they pasted inside for the briefest of security checks. Looking up, Gongchan was shocked to see what looked like a serene starry night sky.

"W-when did it get so late? Wasn't it just noon a moment ago?" The youngest male there said, pointing up towards the darkness overhead.

"Oh yes! Well, it actually still is." Suzy's father, the CEO of JYP Ent. explained. "What you're seeing is actually a playing of the night sky on special panels I had installed in just this section of the gardens. They're special because not only can they play any scenery, but they also can open like shutters and allow in light and rainwater. They're completely weather-proof, with the only exceptions being the most extreme, of course."

Not meaning to be rude, Jinyoung couldn't help but lose complete interest in anything the older gentleman was saying. He really couldn't care less. All of what he kept doing was steal glances at Gongchan, who was now illuminated in a whole different light. Turning down at what was laid out in front of him, he finally tuned back in when he received a rather sharp jab in the ribs, realizing that he should hold up his drink and clink glasses with the rest of the party. Doing as he was expected, he pounded back the glass of Soju. Feeling the alcohol work its way through his system and the false warming of his extremities, he asked for another glassful and pounded it back as well.

Gongchan didn't enjoy any type of alcohol, so he refused to partake. He didn't like the effects of it either. Why damage yourself for such short-term effects and the risk of debilitating aftereffects? No thanks. Normally, he didn't care if others around him drank, as long as the people drinking did not try to force their choices on him or try to take away his right of choice. Normally, he didn't care who drank. This wasn't a normal time though, and Jinyoung's drinking bothered him a little when the older male slammed back his third glass of soju. Not liking what was happening around him, Gongchan excused himself, followed hastily by a rather tipsy Jinyoung.

Sensing the shift in mood, Suzy skillfully and effortlessly mended the situation by excusing herself and her husband, announcing that they were going to wander the grounds together and invited everyone else to do the same.

Catching up to his pup who was leaning against the cool bark of a silver birch, Jinyoung smiled to himself as he nearly stumbled his way closer. Gongchan looked up as his hyung approached and sighed, noting how much colder it was in the secluded gardens than it was outside in the warming sunlight.

"Hey pu--" Jinyoung froze, his heart nearly stopping as he looked into the younger male's eyes. What he saw weren't the soft, adoring eyes of his pup, nor were they the fierce, determined eyes of his tennis champion. They were the disappointed, almost wrathful eyes of someone who felt wronged and upset. "Hey, what's wrong?"

Worry threaded through Jinyoung's voice, causing pangs of guilt to echo throughout Gongchan's being. Were his emotions that easy to read? Shaking his head, Gongchan forced a weak smile on his face.

"Nothing's wrong. What makes you think that?" Gongchan squeaked out, obviously emotionally drained now that he was away from all the excitement of the wedding. His body was quickly adapting to the thought that it was now nighttime, and his mind had quickly began to wind down in preparation for sleep.

"I know my pup, you brat." Jinyoung chuckled, taking a few steps closer to the boy that still leaned against the white, smooth bark of the birch. "Something's up and I'm not leaving until I find out what's bothering you."

This caused Gongchan to genuinely smile at the boy who was now within arm's reach of him. His persistence was something to be admired... Sometimes.

"Like I told you, there's nothing that's wrong." Gongchan again argued, hoping that would be enough to sate his hyung. It wasn't.

Taking a couple more steps towards Gongchan, Jinyoung reached out and put his hand against the cold bark of the tree as he leaned forward, the two boy's faces merely inches apart. Jinyoung was intent on waiting until Gongchan spilled the beans on what was flustering him. Normally, Jinyoung wouldn't invade the younger boy's space like this, but the soju had already worked its ways and clouded his judgment.

Gongchan's face flushed, partly from anger at the invasion of his space and the fact that the smell of the substance he detested wafted off the boy in front of him, and partly because the boy in front of him was so close to him. Why did it make his heart race? They were only friends. Sighing, he let his head fall back against the bark, before he gasped and quickly looked down. This drew Jinyoung's attention upwards into the latticework of branches above them, and more specifically, the bush of mistletoe growing on the branches.

Devilishly smiling, Jinyoung then did what he never would of done if he was not egged on by the alcohol in his system. It wasn't his fault that he was rather easily intoxicated. Reaching his hand under Gongchan's chin, Jinyoung gently raised the younger boy's face to meet him, before leaning in and brushing his lips against Gongchan's. Gongchan's eye's widened in shock, as he pushed Jinyoung off him and bolted away from the tree.

"Gongchan!" Jinyoung called after him. Kicking a stone once he knew that Gongchan was already out of earshot, he cursed himself as he sat down under the tree and recounted his conversation with Suzy earlier.

"Wait!" Jinyoung couldn't help but almost shout, "... Can I ask for your advice...?"

Turning, Suzy smirked. "What is it that you need my advice for?"

"It's about Gongchan... Even if I don't have those sort of feelings for him, He's at least my friend and I don't want him getting hurt. What..." Jinyoung sighed, unsure of how to ask this question. Sitting down in a chair near a window, he looked out at the gardens. It had begun to lightly snow. "What should I do?"

Suzy laughed. Nothing cold or bitter, but a gentle and warm laugh. Once she settled down, she got on with what made her laugh.

"The question isn't what you should do, it's what you shouldn't do. Gongchan's rather... emotional. He tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, though not always. It's rather easy to work your way into his heart, but the same is true about hurting him. It's been about a month since he broke up with his ex, and although for some people that may seem like a long enough time to be way over someone, it isn't to Channie. Be gentle, and be slow." Suzy made her way over the younger male in front of her and sat down in the chair next to him, also looking outside. Her eyes no longer saw what was in front of them, but saw back to a time and a place that no longer was.

"I warn you again, Jinyoung. Channie is one that will run or shutdown if things become too overwhelming or if he gets big enough of a reality check. Only once has he ever taken flight and shut down in the middle of the flight. That was..." Suzy sighed, her eyes seeming even more lost. "That was something."

Jinyoung groaned, burying his head in his hands and bit his lip, shivering at the coldness that the warming rays of the would otherwise chase away.

Pondering on what just happened, Jinyoung finally questioned himself.

   What have I done?
