Winter's Heartbeat
The TourBa-loop! The Skype alert sounded on Cate's laptop, indicating that someone was trying to call her, just as they did every morning. It was 8 in the morning in South Korea, but Cate knew that it was 7 at night where she was being called from. She quickly ran a brush through her shoulder-length hair and answered the video call.
“Anya!” she greeted her best friend. She and Anya had gone to high school together and had been inseparable ever since.
“Heyo! How was your sleep?” the younger girl asked, another question hidden beneath her words.
“Pretty good. Thunder decided to live up to his name last night and ran around the house. He may be tiny, but his footsteps can be pretty loud,” Cate replied, sighing and running a hand through her hair.
Anya laughed at Cate's misfortune, “How old is he again?”
“9.”
“I want to be 9 again!” They both laughed at the thought of going back in time to being a young child again. They both wondered how much they could have gotten away with, had they tried in the first place.
Their conversation carried on like normal with Cate asking how college life was going for Anya and about both of their families. The answers were the same as well with, “A pain in the ” and “Good. You're sister and her hubby are still arguing over where to live and the puppy.”
Cate sighed when it was her turn to answer Anya's questions. She knew what was coming and prepared her unchanged answers.
“Have you met any Kpop idols yet?!” Anya asked, eager for a different answer than she was used to getting after a week and half of asking.
“Not that I know of. The most that I've seen was a mob of high school girls chasing a guy through the shopping district. He was probably from their school. I couldn't see his face because he was wearing a scarf,” Cate told her of the guy who had run into her the afternoon before and of finding the music store where she could play the music she was given before she left.
“Wow... You're getting gutsy!” Anya exclaimed.
“What are you talking about?” Cate's eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.
“You didn't even like playing that song in lunch during school when you first got it.”
“What? I played it almost everyday in lunch,” Cate defended herself.
“You always had the volume on the piano really low so we could barely hear it and never sang to it,” Anya pointed at Cate through the camera. Cate looked away and prayed that her friend couldn't see the faint blush on her cheeks. “You're getting gutsy! Who are you and what did you do with my sister!!???!!!”
