The Class Trip

Ignorance is Bliss (The Secrets We Keep Inside)

The day after the showcase, the location of their class trip was finally announced. Chaerin runs into the cafeteria, breathing heavily with a wide smile on her face, as she slams a once pristine sheet of copy paper on the table. “You guys....we’re going...to...Switzerland!” she says, breathlessly.

As the day passed and she walked home, Vera couldn’t help but ponder over the news. “We’re going to Switzerland...hmm.” It’s only when she starts to swing her arms does she realize she was walking home with Taemin. “Oh! Taemin! Sorry! Have you always been there?”

He laughs at the slight diss. “It’s ok. It happens. The hyungs forget I’m there, too, sometimes.”

Shaking her head, Vera laughs. “I’m sorry! I was just so deep in thought and you were so silent-!” Dropping his hand, Vera stops to bow to him. “Forgive me.”

Taemin laughs, shaking his head, as she straightens up. “It’s ok. You were thinking, so I didn’t want to disturb you.”

She sighs, still apologetic. “Have you ever been to Switzerland?”

“No, but I’ve always wanted to,” he says, as they walk side by side again.

“Wae?” Vera turns to look at him, curious for his response.

“Skydiving. I’ve always wanted to go skydiving,” he says with a smile that finally displays his excitement.

“Jinjja? Skydiving sounds fun, but I’m a bit worried about the parachute.”

“You’re scared of heights?” he asks, a hint of worry replacing his smile. “We don’t have to do it if you don’t want to.”

“But I think it would be fun. I wonder how we’d be able to go, though-”

Suddenly, Taemin stops to hug her. “Thank you!”

Vera laughs as she awkwardly fits her arms around him in this spontaneous hug. “Waegurae?”

“I’ve really wanted to go skydiving and now we can do it together!”

“Even if I couldn’t go, you still would’ve gone without me,” she points out, still laughing.

“That’s beside the point...” he says with a wide smile.

Landing in Zurich airport, the class goes around looking for their luggage. As Vera walks around with her luggage, having been able to find her way around because of all of her travelling between South Korea and America, she can’t help but laugh at Taemin’s confusion. “Do you need any help?”

“No, it’s ok. I’m fine. I’ll find it...” he replies, a reassuring smile on his face, despite his obvious confusion.

“You’re sure? We’re going to the hotel soon,” Vera says, now struggling to smother her laughter.

At first Taemin shakes his head and walks away to try to find his luggage, but when he hears their teacher calling for the students to come together, he runs back to Vera.

“You need my help?” she asks, a smirk on her face.

He nods. “I’ll be here for hours trying to find my luggage.”

With those words, she ends up laughing in his face. “Ok, wait here.” The girl goes over to ask their teacher where the class will be staying and after getting the hotel information, walks back over to him. “Ok, let’s go,” she says, a wide victorious smile on her face, as she grabs his hand and starts to walk with him.

“What did he say? Where are you taking me?”

“I asked him the hotel information and asked him to go with us. And I’m taking you to where the luggage is, ok? What does your luggage look like, anyway?”

He tells her and she starts to lead him to the luggage pickup area, the same one he walked around 5 times ignorantly, and starts to look for his luggage when she realizes something. “...your luggage isn’t here...” she answers as he looks at her with slight confusion. “None of these match your description.”

“...” Taemin looks at her, unsure of how to react.

An employee for the airport walks past them and Vera starts to walk towards her. “Let’s see if she knows where your stuff is.”

“Hello. Is there anything you need help with?” the lady, a thin blonde, asks in English, offering the two a smile.

“Umm, do you know, perchance, where luggage can found if not at the pick up area? My...” Vera looks up to see if Taemin understands what she’s saying, only after verifying does she continue, “boyfriend lost his luggage.”

She nods, a slightly more excited smile now on her face, as her eyes are drawn to the couple’s entwined hands. “Of course. What color was it?” she asks her, as she leads the two.

“It’s black with white pinstripes and is a rolling suitcase,” Vera answers.

“Oh this one?” the lady lifts up a large suitcase that fits the description.

Vera turns to Taemin and, switching back to Korean, asks “Is that yours?”

With a cheeky grin, the Korean nods.

“Yeah. Thank you,” Vera smiles as she retrieves the suitcase, handing it over to him, and walks away from the lady. Sighing, she notices Taemin’s been grinning at her this whole time. “What?”

“I always forget you can speak English,” he says, still grinning. “You sound different.”

“Different?”

“Good different. I like it. You should speak English more often,” he says, now turning to smile at her.

“Did you understand a word I said?” Vera asks out of curiosity.

“Bits and pieces,” the grin is still on his face and this worries her.

“What did you understand?” she asks, with a raised brow.

“You said my suitcase was black and white...”

“Uh huh...” she nods.

“And I remember you calling me your boyfriend,” his grin widens when he notices Vera tense up.

She hangs her head. “That would be the one thing you understand.”

“Gwenchanna,” he says, trying to reassure her through his giggles. “I don’t see you any differently.”

“I so should’ve just said you were my best friend,” the girl mumbles to herself.

“But I’m your best boyfriend.”

“You’re my only boyfriend,” she unwillingly points out.

“And that’s why I’m the best,” he says, lightly kissing her cheek.

When they finally exit the airport, they ride the train to their hotel, and while they were informed it wouldn’t take too long, the ride actually takes 6 hours, plus having to switch trains every 2 hours. The first two switches, they manage well, both still energized and excited to reach their hotels, but before their last stop, Vera, unable to fight off sleep, falls asleep on Taemin’s shoulder.

“Vera, we’re here-” Taemin starts, with a tired smile, but then notices her still sleeping on him. While at first wanting to wake her up, he decides against it and instead carries her out until she wakes up seconds after.

“Hmm, what?” Vera looks around, disoriented. “Did I fall asleep?”

Taemin nods as he slowly places her back on the ground and grabs the handle of his suitcase. “Maybe we should head to the hotel before it’s too late.”

Vera nods and also grabs her suitcase. “What do you want to do when we get there?”

“You should probably go to sleep. You look tired.”

“I’m not that sleepy,” she lies. “And you look more sleepy than I do,” she gestures to the dark circles that rimmed his brown eyes.

“I’m not that sleepy,” he repeats, his lie more evident by the fact that he starts to yawn.

She laughs at this as she pokes his cheek. “We’ll find out when we reach the hotel, ok?” she offers him her pinky.

“Dae,” he loops his pinky around hers.

Once they reach the hotel and check in, the two go to their respective rooms and are surprised to find their rooms roommate less. It’s only when Vera realizes they went to dinner do they settle down and start to unpack. Well, Vera anyways. Taemin has other plans. As the human starts to settle into bed, finally surrendering to sleep, someone knocks on her door. She sighs. “I’m coming.” Stretching her arms over her head as she walks towards the door, she’s greeted by an amused Taemin. “Oh hey,” she says, blankly.

“I found something we could do,” he says, smiling wide as usual.

“What?” she asks with newfound interest.

“There’s an outdoor hot spring.”

“Give me a few minutes and I’ll be out,” she closes the door on him without warning and starts to look through her stuff for something to wear. Just when Taemin starts to get concerned on how long she’s taking, Vera walks out wearing an oversized shirt over her swimsuit with a small bag to carry her phone and wallet. “Ok, I’m ready. Let’s go.”

“Mm,” he nods and leads her to the place he was talking about.Opening the sliding doors, or rather, after struggling with opening them, causing Vera to have to open them, the geothermal spring is revealed to them both and smiles take residence on their faces. “After you?” Taemin turns to Vera, who’s in the process of taking off her shoes.

“You should probably go first since it’s so coooold. Ah, this feels good,” Vera says, as she steps into the warm mineral water. While she had gotten a bit more comfortable with being cold, seeing as she was with Taemin most of the time, she couldn’t help but close her eyes and enjoy the warmth radiating from the pool of water she was presently sitting in. Slowly, without warning, she could feel her eyelids closing. It was only until Taemin called her did she realize she was falling asleep.

“Jagiya?” Taemin asks, an entertained smile on his face, as he tries not to laugh at her as her head drooped more and more into the water.

“Huh?” Vera opens her eyes and sits up. “You said something?”

Shaking his head, he just smiles and jumps in. “Wow. It’s so warm in here,” he says, rising up to the surface with wet hair.

“That’s what I’m saying! Wait, let me go over to you,” Vera says, letting go of the edge to attempt to swim over to him. Too bad Vera can’t swim.

“Stay there, I’ll come over to you,” he says, with wide eyes as he flashes over to her and helps her out from under the water. “You can’t swim?”

She shakes her head, and now that her hair is drenched, it slaps the sides of her face. “Nope. I’ve always wanted to learn, though. So I’m guessing you can?”

He nods. “Yup. I can teach you if you want.”

“Teach me!” she demands, slapping her fists against the water.

“Ok!” he starts to swim, but Vera can’t help but laugh.

“You look like a tadpole,” she says, still laughing.

“The hyungs say that too,” he responds coolly as he keeps swimming, unfazed by her comment.

“Taemin?” Vera asks, after watching him blissfully swim around for awhile.

“Yes?” Taemin looks up and pushes his hair out of his eyes.

“I dare you to go jump into the snow,” she says, pointing at a tall pile that stands near the opening of the hot spring.

“Oh that’s easy,” he says, starting to rise out of the warm water and walk towards the beckoning smile. What Vera didn’t know was that Taemin had been secretly eyeing the snow for the past half hour, wanting to jump into it and make a snow angel. Now was his chance. >D He jumps onto the snow and lays on it, a satisfied smile on his face staying for only a few seconds before the cold seeps into his skin. “Ah! Cold!” and he dives back into the spring.

The human bursts into laughter and can’t help but applaud at the hilarity. “Now you know how it feels like being near you all the time!”

“Is that what I feel like?” Taemin asks, curiously, resting on the edge of the spring.

Still laughing over the incident, she merely nods.

“Mianhae,” he says, as the last bits of snow clinging to his tank top melt into the water.

“Well, we should probably head back now,” Vera says, looking at the sliding glass doors that looked oh-so faraway. Despite her statement, Vera wanted to do anything but go back to their rooms, she was having so much fun despite the inevitable jet lag.

“We could go to the indoor pool,” Taemin suggests, noticing this and his similar feelings.

“Ok,” she says, following him once again. They both grab robes from one of the hotel’s employees and thank her. “Now let’s hope you can open this door,” Vera says, crossing her arms.

“Of course. Watch me.” Adding some grandeur, the vampire crossing his legs at the ankles attempts to open the doors in a cool fashion. They don’t open. “Maybe Swiss doors just don’t like me,” he pouts, allowing her to try after his fifth attempt.

Vera chortles behind her forearm as she steps up to the plate. “Maybe they don’t,” and she too attempts to open the door, failing miserably.

“Ha! It doesn’t like you either!” Taemin says, mocking her.

“You were looking at me! That’s why it didn’t work...” she stops when she notices something.

“Nuh uh. What are you looking at?” he follows her gaze.

Vera looks at a door, with handles, that clearly says “Enter/Exit” and hangs her head. “It looks like you’re rubbing off on me,” she comments to herself as she sulks over to the door.

“Oh! That would make sense!” Taemin remarks with a wide smile as he follows her.

“Wow, it’s so big in here,” Vera says, slipping off her shoes near the opening before walking in.

“Vera!” Taemin calls, walking in after her.

“What?” she asks, and turns to see Taemin open his robe in a slow seductive manner. Quickly, she covers her eyes with her hands until she hears laughter. Lowering her hands, she remembers that he was wearing clothes under the robe and looks away embarrassed.

“Aww, you’re blushing,” he says, quick to . “What were you thinking of Vera?”

“Nothing,” she keeps looking away until an idea pops into her mind. “Taemin? >D”

“Hmm?” Taemin settles back to the ground after cutely kicking his slippers off.

“Is it ok if I take this off?” Vera lifts up the edge of her oversized shirt.

“Mmm, you have something under it, ri-” he stops mid sentence as he watches her with twinkling eyes.

“I have something under what?” she asks, smirking as she stands in a simple black bikini.

“Your..shirt,” he says, still staring, unsure of where to look.

“What are you thinking of, Taemin?” she asks, using his previous words against him, smiling as she’s won. “It’s fine. You can take your shirt off. I’ve seen you shirtless before,” she says, sitting at the edge of the pool, not too far from the steps.

He blushes slightly, but does she suggested. “Are you sure this is ok?” he asks, as he pulls the top over his head.

Turning her head to look at him, she nods. “I mean, there’s no one here...” So there are no fangirls to squeal *rolls eyes*. “...so it should be fine,” she shrugs.

“If you say so,” he says, walking down the stairs into the chlorinated pool water. “You’re sure you don’t want me to teach you how to swim? It would be fun~.”

“No, I’m fine. I don’t think a time will arise when I’ll need to swim for my life,” she shrugs.

“Arasso,” and he starts swimming by himself, still looking like a tadpole.

Vera giggles as she watches him swim, but is interrupted by her phone buzzing. When she goes to get it, she notices she has a new text from Chaerin.

“So I see you and Taemin went off somewhere, because I haven’t you guys since we got off the plane. ;) How are you guys?”

Vera sends back: “It’s not what you think, I just had to help with his luggage and then the train ride to the hotel took awhile. Now we’re just hanging out.”

“You had to help him with his “luggage”? kekeke You two should hurry up, though, because we’re coming back from dinner in like 15 minutes. ;) tell taemin i said hi~.”

Vera scowls at the screen and puts her phone back into her bag before standing up. “Taemin?”

“Vera?” Taemin stops swimming to look up to her.

“We have to go. The class will be back soon,” she says, putting her shirt on again.

“Aww, ok. Can you hand me my shirt?” he asks, as he hops out of the pool.

She hands him his shirt and walks over to her shoes while he gathers his things. “You ready?” she turns to him as he appears next to her all of a sudden.

Taemin nods and reaches for her hand as the two walk back upstairs. As usual, he walks her to her door and waits for her to get her room key before starting conversation. “I had fun tonight.”

“Me too,” she smiles, as she slides the card under the sensor, opening the door. “See you tomorrow,” she starts to walk in.

“Vera?”

“Hmm?” she looks up at him, confused.

“Good night,” he says, pressing his lips against her forehead. “See you tomorrow. Oh, and you looked really y tonight,” he says, with a small smile as he pulls away.

Vera laughs, still slightly embarrassed from the skinship. “You did too.” And closes the door before going to change. Five minutes into her starting to head into dreamland, a knock comes from the door. “I’m coming,” she shakes her head, remembering the scene from earlier, when she opens the door to see Taemin.

“I can’t find my room key,” he says, pouting.

“You mean this? I was wondering when you would realize I took it,” she says, handing the card over to him.

“You took it?” he asks, surprised.

Laughing, she shakes her head. “I figured you’d lose it so I kept it in my bag. Well, good night. For real this time.”

“Good night,” he laughs, as he walks away, twirling the card in his hand.
